can't you see the gods can take away your family, your children, your wealth, your health, even your sexual abilities anytime they want to?

I guess you agree. -

Actually I could pull that one off. However, it makes no difference if I am sitting on a mountain in Nepal or playing poker on a Fri. night in Vegas. -

The answer lies in the India/Nepal/Tibet Himalaya Regions afterall.. and definitely NOT in china/taiwan..

Your implication that I have very little knowledge in regards to Vajrayana practice or even the deeper meaning of prostrations is erroneous. I was doing these practices in the 80's before Tibetan Buddhism became popularized. Further, I took my first Dzogchen teachings from Namkhai Norbu in 1989. I also received around 50-60 different transmissions. Given the above, I didn't follow the herd of Westerners and shut down my critical thinking abilities as so many true believers that I know. To me, a true spiritual path is one that benefits the world, without renouncing or escaping from it. -
If anyone here is raptured tomorrow, please report in detail where you are.

Aren't you two being a little too self congratulatory? Is that part of the path? -
What party food do we need? Beer, wine or any favorite altered state producing product? Does anyone know the exact time this will happen? I certainly don't want to miss it.

Prostration to some dude sitting on his throne has nothing to do with so called spiritual advancement. The Lamas claim that one is prostrating to the teachings. Why doesn't the Lama prostrate at the same time with everyone else? He does his first and then everyone else to him! The Lama's are treated like royalty! -

Of course I can and still do. I was born that way. Not exactly a novel idea, although for some it may be. -

It is your ego that is the problem. Why not reread your entire rant here and be honest with yourself when looking in the mirror, you might just learn something about yourself. At least I am able to question authority. That questioning has given me much freedom and insight. Exactly what are you angry about? I suppose Vajraji has been telling you how much of a heretic I am. BTW, I would really like to see at least one of the Buddhist's precepts practiced here by one's that consider themselves Buddhist. 'Right speech' would be nice. So far I don't see it. -
Sifu Terry, Could you explain the significance of the Tai Chi ruler and how it differs from the FP? Thanks

Organic Farming: The revolution of the future.
ralis replied to Harmonious Emptiness's topic in General Discussion
There was not a world wide population problem or shrinking reserves of fossil fuels, when he stated that. Over 3 billion on this planet live in abject poverty. When fossil fuels begin to run out, over half the planet will die of starvation. Most don't realize just how dependent humans are on fossil fuels. Romanticizing organic farming or wishful thinking is not going to solve the problem for so many people. I think organic farming is wonderful. However, the present infrastructure is almost impossible to change. Unfortunately, humans have a nasty habit of denying what is rationally inevitable. There are other issues, such as shrinking potable water supplies, top soil loss, erosion, pollution of soils with petrochemicals and nitrate based fertilizers. Not all have access to fertile soils in which to grow crops or even the technical know how to rejuvenate soil. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/jun/21/millions-face-starvation-west-africa http://www.globalissues.org/issue/2/causes-of-poverty http://www.globalchange.umich.edu/globalchange2/current/lectures/freshwater_supply/freshwater.html -

You are right in that not all traditions or outsiders of, are interested in buddhahood or Buddhism, due to the fact it is just another authoritarian belief system, that provides little benefit to the true believers, except a nice little belief system. Exactly what does "them-self" mean? That is a new one for me. Welcome back! -
You are positing an erroneous conclusion about the scientific method. Research scientists never proceed from belief systems in an attempt to prove a belief. Scientific research is a process of of asking questions, and inference i.e, deductive reasoning from given facts. Notice I said facts, not opinions, not innuendos or any belief system at all. Show me one scientific theory that was arrived at by using belief systems. Here is a primer on the scientific method that may help and also the process Sir Isaac Newton used to understand gravity and formulate classical mechanics. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaac_Newton http://www.biology4kids.com/files/studies_scimethod.html

They do teach some good stuff. Cutting through the meaningless BS wastes much time! -
@Immortal4Life, Your anti-science rant is boring! Obviously, you still believe that mythology should be taught in the same classroom as science and be treated as science. The problem is that beliefs and opinions are not part of the scientific process!

At one time I was involved in Tibetan Buddhism. My reason for leaving was due to the fact that the Lamaist hierarchy convinced the true believers that doing prostrations in front of their throne was necessary. Their karma was better than the peons sitting on the floor in front of them. These guys received special benefits only because their system was created to benefit them. -

Great to have you back! Also, karma is used as an excuse to create authoritarian systems and many other injustices. It is always the ones in power that make these types of proclamations. -
Dr. Kaku talks about the dead zone around Chernobyl as being significant. Also I posted the birth defects from the Chernobyl area which are horrific.
