From what I have observed, the philosophy of D.O. has become simplistic, which leads to complacency and laziness. Believers that stop at this point are short changing themselves and others. Exactly, what do the proponents here of D.O. going to do with it? Anything concrete and constructive?
-
Actually you are wrong. I am not interested in your approval or from anyone for that matter. Your attempts to somehow read and evaluate me are so far off, it is laughable.
-
I guess that is the attitude of heartfelt compassion!
-
I believe D.O. is more on the theoretical as opposed to practical. The theoretical is in the domain of the monastic and in most systems it is heresy to use such processes as practical applications to solve real world problems.

I make a statement and you attack me for what reason?

That could be nothing more than a self fulfilling wish. A program that is transmitted of an experience that is just another experience. I am not certain humans are prepared or even have the capacity to comprehend the complexity of the cosmos. Further, to say there is no God is missing the point. The fundamental problem is that humans have no idea what to look for and therefore assign arbitrary terms in an attempt to quantify reality.

Anyone know much about Max Theon? Info is hard to find. I first read about him in one of her books.
-
I guess Vajraji will be showing up soon and lecturing you on the finer points of dependent origination.
-
Any translations?
-
The Mother learned things from Max and his wife that she did not discuss in much detail. I always felt that if I understood Theon, I would have a more complete understanding of Aurobindo and The Mother. It has been said they were in some way continuing his work.

After hearing Sarah Palin's rant yesterday about the U.S. being exclusive of other countries, I thought I would add my thoughts more toward religious ideology, which may be one of the primary causes of nationalistic ideology. Why do religious experiences engender authoritarian personalities? Are these personality types a product of social conditioning and as a result are attracted to any experience that may give them exclusive power? Or, according to some recent studies, are their brains hardwired for a more fundamentalist, conservative point of view? This reminds me of the environmental vs. genetic argument that was never resolved. I imagine authoritarian personalities are products of both sides of the equation. The ideology of exclusive power has great appeal among the weak minded. BTW, Palin used the anti-Semitic term "blood libel" in her speech in an attempt to portray herself as a victim in hopes of gaining political favor. More later.

It is an ideology and not a fact! This idea you believe in is about believing you are something special and exclusive. The mistaken belief that all beings are potential Buddha's is bogus.

Why not stop attacking Chomsky and discuss the article Sunya posted! Then you will remain on topic. After all, attacking the messenger is never rationally correct.

I stopped for the night due to really nasty ice sleet and rude truckers. Am in Columbus. I left here in 1985 two years after graduating from OSU. This is the worst ice storm I have ever encountered!
-
Just stopped inside Ohio. It is sleeting freezing and nasty. The truckers are driving too fast. Only have 130m to go.
-
I'm stuck in traffic on the ohio indiana border on I 70 in there is ice everywhere. Lol!

It is a Snowlion pub. and they require proof one has had the transmission. I have a copy and it cost me over 100.00 with shipping. A bit too pricey! I loathe the fact that these people still cloak these teachings in such secrecy.

I am listening to "Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" by William Shirer. He was a first rate journalist unlike the corporate shills spewing propaganda on Fox News and other outlets. Germany in the 30's is very similar to what is occurring in the U.S. at present.
-
Thanks for finding that article! Part of what the average follower of Palin fails to comprehend is that the Nazis used the term "blood libel" during the holocaust. Her use of that term has far reaching consequences!
-
Chomsky wrote an article last year and compared 1930's Germany to the present day U.S. As you have so aptly stated the Republicans need a charming person, Chomsky said the same thing. Only he termed it a charismatic person with no dirt. If I can find that piece I will post it.

I know we have had disagreements. However, I appreciate your well thought out posts.

She and others think theirs is the only one.

I wasn't talking about you.

Good point! I have known many Dzogchen wannabes (here included) and all they do is talk about it. They play it safe. Real practice can and will completely undermine any sense of self or ego and that can be terrifying for the unprepared. Some here think that is such a cool thing to do. They have no idea what the implications are for such a process. Real sky gazing can do it as well as a dark retreat. These need to be conducted solitary in the wilderness and with no support from friends.
