Actually I am not surprised you would include the worn out Quantum Mechanics argument to prove your point. You use the first statement to prove your argument as being true. Then you separate physics (which is what you are basing your argument on) from spirituality as being separate from your argument. Can't have it both ways. ralis

It seems that one's internal psychological filters, which are complex systems determines what type of information or propaganda one allows to be integrated. Problems arise when certain tenets are accepted that deny physical realities. Further, the use of trance (abuse of) can convince the true believer beyond any doubt that physical reality is an illusion.

Quote When investigating the true import of beats phenomena, the founder of social systems theory, Gregory Bateson, asks: "Do we, in fact, carry around with us...samples of various sorts of regularity against which we can try the information (news of regular difference) that comes in from outside?"86 Is regularity a set of limiting conditions which are both pleasurable and painful? If this represents the double bind, then how does one change? The bind seems to be a closed loop, where information is needed to break the bind. In what way does the filter of the familiar allow new information to be accessed and integrated? ralis

Natural progression implies something that is inherent in the universe. I think it is a group dynamic that was created by Buddhists. A Buddhist map to realize a Buddhist point of view. Not in anyway understanding the real dynamic system of the cosmos. ralis

Why have all these so called levels? Aren't these just more constructs? ralis

Excellent point! Enlightenment can and will exasperate any neurotic condition. I have met many enlightenment seeking junkies that are dysfunctional and can never deal with the everyday realities of the world. ralis

This book by Bateson is useful in this discussion. I just posted this on my new thread 'The Double Bind' http://www6.ufrgs.br/horizon/files/teoria2/bateson.pdf ralis

Gregory Bateson addresses this problem in his book 'Steps To An Ecology Of Mind'. I read this years ago and may read it again. This pdf is all over the internet. I am certain Amazon has copies. http://www6.ufrgs.br/horizon/files/teoria2/bateson.pdf http://www.amazon.com/Steps-Ecology-Mind-Anthropology-Epistemology/dp/0226039056/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1280675813&sr=8-1 ralis

To state unequivocally what it is or isn't misses the point. The cosmos, ones' true nature or any phenomenological event can't be quantified semantically. ralis

Why are you so attached to your Buddhist preaching? A man of my age? What is that supposed to mean? ralis
-
Actually you took over the thread with your Buddhist preaching! This is not your own personal forum! ralis

You are still engaging in personal attacks! ralis

I don't have the capacity to understand the chaos that you call precise and creative writing? Nice ad hom attack Vajraji! I have have heard Lama's preaching in regards to the so called levels of capacity and how it effects one's path to understanding and enlightenment. This just shows their arrogance and how outdated their belief system is. ralis ralis

Ants may outstrip supplies locally, but not planet wide. Otherwise, ants would seek to exist. Take for example the Ips species which is a type of beetle that has caused extensive damage here in NM and Colorado. If you read the chart, you will find very specific criteria for this beetles habitat. What I have observed is the beetle will not destroy an entire forest. The beetle is selective as to the species of tree it needs to complete it's cycle. I have seen forests devastated up to a point and the infestation stops. The beetle returns to a basic population until the conditions are right for the next cycle. Therefor, the food supply is not outstripped. If it were the beetle would cease to exist. http://www.ext.colostate.edu/pubs/insect/05558.html ralis

I get it! Victims don't exist! ralis

You are really full of it with your untenable conspiracy theories. I suggest you study some history and get your facts straight. Rush Limbaugh, Karl Rove et al have reframed the political debate and it appears you have been victimized by their propaganda. BTW, study Noam Chomsky and read 1984 by Orwell. ralis

Great idea! However, I believe there is only 20% of the freshwater on the planet that is clean. Nothing is happening to stop this disaster! Termites as well as any other species never outstrip their food supply. Nature always takes care of business by limiting populations. Further, all species with the exception of humans, don't engage in oil well drilling, strip mining etc. ralis

Viable? The longest sustained reaction was 10 MW for 0.5 seconds. Current estimates are possibly 50 years for this technology to be fully developed. ralis

I am not against technology that will improve the health and well being of people! However, there are many on this planet who may never obtain any benefit from improvements that a privileged few take for granted. Humans can't even begin to control the myriad problems of hunger, disease, pollution and decreased agricultural production. I never implied there needs to be gov't controls over population growth. In general, a reasonable person would consider the ramifications of unbridled growth and realize the problems that such growth creates. That is all I stated. Seems that your view is of technological fixes ad infinitum. Further, proceeding from incorrect conclusions about what I am stating here, will be met with a rebuttal! Nuclear fusion is only a theoretical experiment at this time. Will it ever be viable? No one knows. The billions spent on this endeavor, may be better used elsewhere. Your idea of some ideal future seems to be devoid of the natural world and all it's wonder. ralis

Great in what way? Because you said so? Your statement implies he must be on a higher level than others. You continually refer to a hierarchy while denying none exist. ralis

I was objecting to Joeblast's idea of there being a max. sustainable population of 250B. A very irrational idea. Resources to sustain present day levels are not available for many. Further, there is much starvation, pollution and real health concerns among most nations. Technological applications are unable to effectively deal with these problems. His view is for a population 35x present day levels. I never implied that strict controls are needed to control populations. Although the Chinese are successfully reducing population levels. In terms of dynamic systems, the will to survive and human intelligence are variables that are not quantifiable. Therefor at some point of human evolution, humans may as a group be able to attain to a level of responsibility for the group and planet. ralis ralis

Of course there is no separation. However, being a victim to it as you suggest is ludicrous! ralis ralis
