This is an area that I have pondered for years and until now, I thought this might fall into the category of illusion. However, since practicing Kunlun and Red Phoenix I have changed my mind. These type of practices seem to open the unconscious and certain parts of the brain that are not easily accessed. Traditionally, these areas were accessed by ecstatic techniques and were usually in the venue of Shamans. I think this may provide an answer to some of the previous discussions on Kunlun that included problems that some were having. It is true that some are more sensitive to these deep currents than others and may not understand the natural process that has been uncovered. I am absolutely fine with my unconscious flooding into my dreams. ralis

This is "New Age" rhetorical nonsense. If I followed your advice, I would sit on the street corner and not move! ralis

I was just looking at some older files and came across this book that is free online. I think the researcher has a number of valid points. Especially, when it concerns religious authority that generally goes unquestioned. I mean all, no exceptions. Why do humans have this need to yield to external authorities, when it is against their best interest? Fear? The need to fit into a larger group? http://members.shaw.ca/jeanaltemeyer/drbob/TheAuthoritarians.pdf ralis

Prove it! Also if there are no causes, then you don't exist! Trite remarks at best! ralis

Here is one example of where authoritarianism really does a number on its followers. http://www.buddhanet.net/e-learning/karma.htm The appeal and sacrifice to the higher cause is probably the worst abuse! ralis

There is no denying that the universe operates causally. However, the authoritarian doctrine of karma does not provide real answers to life's problems. Blaming the process of karma is a do nothing excuse! If that is not the case, then why is India and other countries that take it so seriously, have so many problems! Do authoritarian followers of karma in these countries even attempt to improve their lives? Doctrines such as karma are always in the context of the higher cause. Therefor, one must submit to the process of the higher cause so as to be purified (more pain and anguish) and reach higher realms of blissful existence. ralis

If you would, I would appreciate it. Thanks ralis

I started another thread today on authoritarianism. I believe this is why people get into trouble following any religion or spiritual path. http://www.thetaobums.com/index.php?/topic/13977-authoritarianism/ ralis

Where do you get these ideas? Is there some book that precisely measures actions and indicates if there is a karmic consequence or not? I think such a book would be massive and impossible to carry around. The belief in karma (cultural meme) creates fear, limitations and has caused massive suffering (India). Does this belief in an absolute certainty i.e, karma make you feel secure? ralis

Epistemological in terms of creating suppositions to form belief systems. Many proceed from the conclusion that if a teacher (Buddha or whomever) posits a supposition, therefor it is absolutely true. Why? Lack of critical thinking? Acceptance of the supposition in an altered state? Meditation can produce altered states in which one can easily change points of view that fit into whatever is said to be true. In terms of one's own observations, it is very easy to take them too seriously, as well as taking others observations too seriously! Take for example, Gestalt Therapy, in which one hallucinates a parent or whomever in a chair and has a conversation for therapeutic purposes. Many have benefited from this work. However, if one delves too deeply, what are the ramifications? The same applies with any spiritual endeavor that if taken too far, can be a trap as opposed to freedom. Of course, all things are not permanent! If it were not for change, the universe would not function. Dynamic systems exhibit change and all teachings that are supposed to benefit others, therefor, must change to fit the needs of the current time. If not then those teachings are nothing more than historical artifacts. If all things are not permanent, then what creates the change? ralis

I submit that whatever ism one pursues, the realization of the so called truth of a belief system is just a relative experience for the believer. This is mistakenly interpreted as objective fact! Furthermore, while delving deeper into the experience (transcendent experiences, scriptures etc,) the possibility of being lost and not free is amplified. In a previous thread that discusses a conversation between Buddha and a God, there seems to be a necessity to believe such stories are necessary to validate ones belief in a so called spiritually enlightened teacher. A world teacher no less! This story is taken as absolute fact and misses the whole point! Is it possible to make ones quest, art and science? After all, the universe is one dynamic process, where the only absolute is change. ralis

Chemtrails? That is a bogus argument! I see you will believe anything as long as it sounds good! ralis

I always appreciate someone telling me how I feel instead of asking me how I feel! Intelligent people just don't dismiss another with snide unproven remarks! Anger issues? I ask questions and you make accusations! Show me where I have expressed anger. I have been around Buddhism long before you were born. At least I have the intelligence and curiosity to question belief systems i.e, my own and others. I submit that all of you Buddhists are afraid to look in the mirror and really ask if you are bullshitting yourself! At least I have the balls to laugh at my own illusions! Anyone can integrate another belief system and believe it to be the absolute truth. I have accomplished that feat many times. Can you Buddhists laugh at yourselves? Or are you caught in absolute seriousness? ralis

Is that all you can say! What about some answers to my questions! ralis

I was sticking to the topic. Asking me what my practice is, is not the topic! I don't need your arrogant judgmental attitude about what karma is or is not. Why in your opinion is trolling (which I am not doing) bad karma and calling me childish is not? Exactly what book of rules did you refer to that denotes what karma is or is not? Why the serious attachment to your belief system? I thought Buddhism was about not being attached? Of course, you will probably not be able to answer my questions! ralis
