Which version are you reading? I've read this version its great. I've tried reading this one, but its difficult to make it throught all the jargon. I'll need some time and dedication to get through it, and I've go too much on my plate for that now...oh well.

I had a followup with the holistic dentist yesterday. He said that the best thing to use is a sulcus toothbrush. He said to use it to brush along the gum line and angle it to get between the teeth. Then floss, then use a water-pick. He said that tootpastes are purely cosmetic, they will wear away the teeth and have no real value. He insisted that good oral hygene is rooted in brushing technique.

I floss nightly. When I miss a few nights more stuff comes out and it stinks. It only makes sense that removing deacying food from between your teeth will preserve them. It also keeps your breath from smelling as bad.

For what its worth, I went to a holistic dentist the other day and he said that it does not matter what you brush your teeth with, just that you use a gentle pressure and brush thoroughly. Toothpicks are fine for removing debris but not for pushing your gums. Also chewing gum is good, it stimulates saliva and helps clean the mouth, xylitol flavored of course.

I think that a diet based on meat and cheese eating to exclusion of carbs is akin to an eating disorder. You need a diet that is rich in a variety of plant life. Once you change your diet and lifestyle then the fat will go away. The ketosis state is hard on the kidneys and heart and will only work to shorten your life. Switch to a healthy plant based diet with ocational high quality meats and watch your body respond by dropping excess fat. These guys put stones and things in their bodies for protection. I've heard of similar things with tattoos, the hard part is to find someone qualified to do it. Southeast Asia is home to alot of this stuff, Vietnam and the Phillipines in particular.

dunno about that one, i've been listening to this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/157270358...2399139?ie=UTF8 and really like it. I am of the opinion that goal setting and achievement is really the same thing as "concious creation" or whatever you want to call it. If you listen to both schools you will find they are saying the same things, only one tries to say that God or the Universe, or the Force is granting wishes, and the other says clarify and set your goals then get whatever you want.

Really man, the path out of the "matrix" may take determination and fire, as you are certianly showing, to get started, but in the long run all that talk wont get you all that far down the path. Once you begin to realize the depth of people's delusion (including your own) you begin to feel sorry for them and at this point you may realize that a path of service and love are the way to go. Sitting in a cave may not allow you to burn off all of your karma in one lifetime. Being selfish for the sake of selfishness will limit you. Meditation and other liberating practices may seem selfish from the outside and even at the outset along the path, however they are not. The attitude they induce, the happiness they create help not only the meditator, but those around him/her. Putting good vibes in circulation helps the entire world with its collective liberation. So dont fight for yourself, if you are truly going to be a warrior take a cause worth fighting for - the world's libeation. Then you may become a Sammasambuddha.

Another good one is the tennis ball. I had a massage therapist recommend this years ago. Put the tennis ball between you back and the wall and roll it up and down the spine. The site you linked to recommeds some other uses for them as well.

Yeah, the scientific establishment were referring to as science is not perfect, but at the same time neither are we. How often do you have conflicting experiences, or an experience that invalidates, or puts another into question? Its a sign of advancement, not inadequacy. Deriving knowledge from your experiences is science at its most fundamental level. Science does not uphold or create the truth, but merely tries to explain it. Sometimes those explanations are sufficient sometimes not. Can we arrive at the truth through scientific exploration? Possibly, at least we can come up with a reasonable explanation and see how it fits with other phenomena we have observed. Tesla was a genuis inventor, but I'm not sure of his scientific discoveries. Like Edison did he contribute to society? Profoundly. Did they countribute to science? Not on the same scale as they did to mankind.

Yes, however in the book Personalty Types they explain how there are 9 levels of health for each type. At lower levels you exihibit characteristics typical of other types. This variation occurs per some scheme they have observed and the same scheme fit me, apparently (I'm due for another soon) we'll see if it holds up;)

I take that test every 2 years. Its pretty interesting, I took it a while ago when I was drinking and partying heavily and then just about 2 years ago (I'm about due for another) after I had calmed down quite a bit. The results changed right in line with what they said they would be. Pretty awesome. They have a great book on all the personality types and the level of adavancement within each, its pretty cool to see where you are where you could go (but dont limit yourself with it)...that may be the pitfall to all this "typing" stuff, you stick yourself in a box that someone else says should fit (just a thought).

1. There are plenty of people with negative experiences. Why should you feel bad when people share their negative experiences with your system. Surely not every spiritual system can be appropriate for eveyone. However, with TM it seems that the negative experiences go far beyond, "It simply was not for me." 2. The four noble truths of the Buddha did not include trancendence, but did include suffering. He spoke of ridding the body-mind of dukka to attain enlightnement, not escaping to "transcendence". 3. Why waste time with a mantra that is only to be forgotten while other mantras offer other benefits? Some are directed to clearing certian nadis, or chi channels, some clease the heart, or the mind. I've even heard there is one for the prostate. Further, why pay $2,500 for a mantra, when you can find time tested ones for free? 4. Sounds like you hve become a true believer. 5. The Cathedral vs the Bazaar. Or open systems versus closed systems. This is taken from a train of though in computer science where the Cathedral's product is designed in secret by an "elite" group with out being open to evaluation and criticism of others (sounds like TM). The Bazaar's product is developed in view of the public. Appling this to spiritual systems can reveal defects or potential defects in a system. First who has evaluated it? What have they found? What evidence were they given to evaluate? Do you come to the same conclusion? Applying these and similar questions can be very revealing. Everyone wants to know whats in their food, why not their spiritual system?

Peer review. When a scientist makes a discovery, they publish a paper describing the experiment, how it was conducted, the results, and everything else. This paper is published, the the scientist's peers review the paper and may even reconduct the experiment to validate the results. This is why the space shuttle launches, why viagra gives an erection, why were able to have an internet, without peer revied science our world would be a lot different. Think less technology and more superstition. Lots of amazing and utilitarian discoveries are made through science and its silly to dismiss it as so fundamentally flawed. Subjective experience. You can describe it, but you cant reapeat it. You could to the same set of practices and not have the same experience. You could tell someone else the process you went through to get there and they may not be able to repeat it. Since you can not prove it, it is of little value to the world at large. The Vedas are said to describe everything in the universe that is knowable. This knowledge is said to have been gained by devout spiritual seekers. So I suppose that there is some point of balance between subjective experience and objective measurable experiments. This is where spirituality meets science.

Wow...you sound like a true beliver. Playing with energy, smiling to organs, fusing energies at the dan tien, etc do not lead to enlightenment. Sure it may take some spiritual progress or dicipline to get the stage where one has access to and even a bit of control over these energies, but this should not be mistaken for enlighenment. Powers such as these are offered on the path to enlightenment and are but a distraction to true enlighenment. A practitioner who engages in their use will not reach ultimate Samadhi and become liberated, the practitioner will develop stronger karmic knots and push themself further away from the final goal. As far as the Guru Rating Service goes, it seems like the ranking is based on the number of enlightened that the guru has produced. Whether or not that is explicitly stated, it seems fit with the rankings. I've never heard of anyone studying under Chia becoming enlightened. Then again there are said to be only a handful of enlightened since the buddha.

The reason I always heard for practicing it was to preserve the body to give more time on earth to pursue enlightenment. Also to purify the body to be able to handle the massive energies that occur at the purely energetic levels. I guess the why really boils down to karma, dosent it?

There used to be a group called the Kaishan Insitute that taught authentic "iron shirt" or as they call it "golden shield" qigong. I had a roomate who practiced it. The results were amazing, getting hit in the stomach would only move him backwards, without injury to him. His skin would redden, but he claimed it was from his "chi firing". The training involved hitting the dan tiens with various tools (hands, wire hitters, up to oak staffs) soaked in herbs. First the lower then the middle then legs and hands/arms then the head. Once an area was "sealed" then that part of the body could take just about any blow and not suffer injury. The hands and feet worked differently, but were equally protected. Then the qigong moved to nigong pure energetic meditation, which was secret. The stories from this group were amazing, one 70 woman year old no longer needed her glasses and started menstrutaion again. Someone started a fight with another practitioner and when the practitioner threw them the attacker could not get up until the practitoner called back his chi. Ahother person went crazy. This was the problem with it as far as I could tell, the practitioners seemed to be constantly dealing with a lot of heavy emotions. My guess was as the result ridding the body of karma/energetic obstructions. Anyhow, to bring it back to iron shirt neigongs this is it. This is what Chia was trying to teach and from what I saw and heard you need to learn it from a well trained person, not a book. Goolge "golden shield", the origional kaishan website seems out of order, but it looks like several new teachers are spreading the practice. I have no doubt that the only way to cause harm to someone who has completed the physical training in this dicipline would be through a pure energetic attack rendered through a true martial art or psychic powers. In other words Scott Sonnon could try sambo, grappling, or anything else and the practitioner would likely be amused. Hope this helps.

here From what I understand about mantras (not much) you need to stick with it for an appreciable amount of time (six months to a year) so that it has time to get deep in your nervous system. Give the lessons on the AYP site a try and see what happens. Also, to reply to my post above, if some mantras have positive effects then it stands to reason that others potentialy have negative effects. So it would make sense to do some research to discover a good one or learn one from someone who has done the research. Before practicing te AYP lessons I thought that mantras were useless and at best a form of entertainment for the mind. After a few months of practice that does not seem to be the case.
