  1. The Fourth Kind (MOVIE)

yeah I would probably go with the latter. though people naturally slip in to increased suggestibility all the time, not just in hypnosis. From what I gather, the majority of documented cases of false memory occurred with regular talk therapy as opposed to actual regression techniques. I just don't want to give the impression that this phenomenon is exclusive to regression work, it's just a natural aspect of the mind.
  2. The Fourth Kind (MOVIE)

yeah that's a good point. there's there definitely the meta message, the message behind the words. My sense is that would become an issue with only the most talented clients. People's critical factor is usually not completely blown over, just that there's a varying reduction in the threshold of suggestibility from person to person. I think there's something to be said for the expectations of the hypnotist, such as that the right material to be worked with is going to be presented by the subconscious in order to resolve the issue at hand. People can easily reject suggestions that they don't like, but yeah I pretty much agree that the whole premise of going to a hypnotist with the intent to uncover memories of abduction is leading in itself and problematic in that sense. Same with going with the intent of doing past life regression. Where I trained, the policy is never to do past life regression or any of that stuff on purpose for an issue, but merely to have a contingency plan when it comes up.
  3. The Fourth Kind (MOVIE)

That's just improperly applied regression technique. Unfortunately, there's a lot of poorly trained hypnotists out there and even psychologists are notorious for having out of date hypnosis training (or none, if they never sought out certification on their own as it's not a requirement at any point in obtaining a doctorate degree). If thats the only hypnotist Penn and Teller showed, then they are definitely showing bias by depicting the worst of the worst therapists. In proper regression therapy, the wording is carefully crafted to eliminate the possibility of leading the subject, because people at the threshold of somnambulism could hallucinate just about anything suggested to them. questions to someone in somnambulism should never go beyond things like: "what's happening, what happens next, now what's happening, what are you thinking/feeling.. describe that to me" and a handful of others depending on the nature of the regression etc. It gets even stricter for forensic hypnosis. so yeah if someone is asking leading questions like the quote, the result will definitely be 99.99% BS
  4. The Fourth Kind (MOVIE)

that sounds plausible to me, inner space/ outer space dichotomy is probably some kind of illusion anyway. actually I heard a serious smacking crunch while I was falling asleep last night hmm.
  5. The Fourth Kind (MOVIE)

yeah that sounds about right. I do know a guy that speaks at MUFON conferences and specializes in hypnotherapy with UFO abduction/contact experiences. I guess the subject matter is kinda sorta about some stuff that sort of goes on.
  6. Sorry to hear Seth about those deaths. sounds more like they would be attributed to the concerns of the harsh Australian environment. I've "locked" several people in their altars, as a helper, for traditional vision quests in the past few years in the black hills and in minnesota. the sweats people do before and after vision quest are actually 1/2 sweats or "wipe downs" with fewer tunkasilas (grandfather stones). 1/2 completed before and 1/2 after the vision quest where they fast (no food no water). yes people do fast (without food) on the day of the sweat but rarely, if ever, would they fast for long before that, and they are well hydrated on the day of the inipi, unlike with Hanblecha (vision quest). so thats another thing that went wrong in Sedona, you don't typically do a full-on balls-to-the-wall sweat after a vision quest: several days no food, no water. Because vision quest is not an Inipi ceremony, it's Hanblecha (which includes wipe downs in a lodge, flesh offerings etc). the words death and sweat lodge don't belong in the same sentence. Inipi is serious and does get screaming hot, some native elders don't give you 4 doors, but if the person has the right training, fulfilled a four year wiwayang wacipi commitment (Sundance) which is traditionally following four year vision quest. and is sanctioned to pour water, you should be more than OK. A good acid test, if your not on a reservation, is finding out whether this person pouring water could get away with doing this ceremony the way they are doing it, on a real reservation. if the answer is no, then you should probably steer clear. There may be exceptions Im not clear on such as in other traditions with slightly different protocols like midewewin (ojibwe medicine society), nez pierce or in Dine country but Inipi (sweat lodge) is one of Lakota seven rites so you want to make sure what your doing is well grounded within tradition.
  7. The Fourth Kind (MOVIE)

If you are going to see it, trust me, you don't want to know the answer to that before you see it.
  8. The Fourth Kind (MOVIE)

much appreciated.. Yeah I thought there was a lot they could have done with the sumerian connection and origins of modern man etc. did you see The Orphanage? I think that required an extra pair of underwear for everyone in the theatre. really well done suspense with great acting IMO. probably my favorite ghost story I can think of.
  9. The Fourth Kind (MOVIE)

(edit) ******* CAUTION post may be spoiler alert******** Saw it in the theatre, felt swindled. I knew universal studios had already admitted it was a complete hoax before I went in, but thought I could still appreciate it as a story line because I like supernatural types of suspense movies. What was so annoying how the the movie constantly relies on reminding the viewer that it has "actual footage of seriously real case studies.. seriously". I guess its scary in the sense that someone suddenly screaming who was just sitting there is scary. It completely relied on fake "reality" blair witch/paranormal activity buzz to sell tickets. And then the glaring CGI eyes of the "real" doctor. another thing that bugged me is all the missed opportunities for something interesting to happen between the aliens and doctor/patient dynamic. but no, the alien has nothing at all interesting to communicate but "I am god.. destroy!!" the only 2009 movies I like were District 9, Men who stare at goats, and also Avatar really surprised me. Sorry I don't mean to piss on the thread but I had to vent since I paid to see it. I feel better now
  10. pictures of pope

I posted the first ones that show the pope's likeness to the emperor in star wars in a motivational poster format. I apologize if I offended anyone. It was an immature type of joke and I didn't take time to think that not everyone has the same sense of humor as me and didn't really consider that people would be offended. to me the idea of the vatican making a serious public statement in reaction to a popular fictional movie was sort of funny, so I thought it was sort of a lighthearted joke. But yeah I can see how it was in bad taste.
  11. I've been in a few hundred Dakota sweats at a nearby reservation and am slowly training to sing. It's so obvious that he attended one sweat that was itself probably not legit and said "I can do this!" with dollar signs in his eyes. one of the main problems (besides charging $) is in the photo in the second link, the blue plastic tarp. also the lodge being too big, so that the people on the opposite side too far away from the door got no relief while he would have been able to catch a few breaths. Also a real Dakota/Lakota inipi needs to be run by a Sundancer with specific training. what they had there can't even accurately be called a sweat lodge. It will be a real shame if he doesn't do jail time.
  12. Is it OK to charge people money for instruction?

I think that's definitely reasonable how you state it and would tend to agree. Though I think people only value what they put time, money, or effort into and there are probably instances where charging money puts (some) people in an optimum mindset to get their money's worth out of what they're learning. there was an experiment done that showed how perceived value influences the placebo effect.... eighty five percent of participants who read a brochure describing a pill as a "newly approved painkiller" for $2.50 experienced a reduction in pain, while only 61 percent of the participants who read a brochure describing the pill as "marked down to ten cents" experienced relief. that being said, I participate with a traditional Dakota altar and have attended several hundred sweat lodge ceremonies free of charge, and it's true that anyone who charges money for native american spirituality is regarded as fraud, no debating it. At least charging $ for things like sweats or vision quest etc would never fly on a reservation. However most of those who participate in ceremony at least try to give what they can back in energy, effort, and labor, working the kitchens or doing the fires, chopping wood, miscellaneous tasks and labor when the vision quest, sun dance, and other ceremonies are going on, making oneself useful for years before you really start to learn things, so I think it would be an oversimplification to say that all things are just freely given.
  13. Is Jungian psychology accepted as fact?

  14. Is it bipolar (I or II) or unipolar (unipolar as in major depressive disorder, single or recurrent episode) or other? If bipolar you definitely should stay on meds first and foremost, especially if you have suicidal ideation. have 3 people ready you can call to talk to if you're feeling like harming yourself. And maybe sign a contract with the bums to remove any weapons from the house (give em to a friend for now). With unipolar depression its a bit safer to try different therapies including alternative that are less invasive than drugs and figure out what works for you. Things like CBT and mindfulness have much greater success rate with unipolar depression and CBT research for bipolar is not nearly as extensive as pharma for bipolar. as has been suggestested, anything health related can certaintly be viewed from a mind/body/spirit perspective. some people who are bipolar can be like direct lines to god or hyper-creative when they are manic (think people like kurt kobain) but still may end up killing themselves. so staying on meds is very very important for bipolar.
  15. SECOND BRAIN!

  16. A friend needs protection

There's protocol for getting rid of things that claim to attach from other dimensions from ET's. I know a guy that does ET stuff exclusively. My feeling is that unless it comes up organically in hypnosis in the perception of the client, it would be unethical to suggest that one of those is the case. I suppose I wouldn't recommend overtly seeking treatment with therapy or hypnosis for those two things because it's too murky and leading to claim to know a cause that is only speculation. But rather to go seeking help with whatever the significant distress is and explore from there. If it comes up as something like mind control or ETs then it could probably be handled one way or another. But yeah you would want to be careful seeking help from a mental heath professional claiming symptoms of government mind control technology and ETs for obvious reasons. I just had the impression that witch was pretty sure it was a curse.
  17. A friend needs protection

I second the therapist idea. who knows exactly what the etiology is? There are therapist's out there that know how to deal with negative spiritual issues such as projected energy of anger, a hex or a curse. It could be a thought-form or fragmentation of the one who sent a curse. A cord can be traced to the sender which can be severed. They could do a releasement of any demonic entities involved and sent the fragment back to the light or to the sender. Under hypnosis such a fragment can reveal whether is has a physical body at the present time, the time of separation from the original personality, the percentage of fragmentation, the act of attachment to the client and purpose for the attachment. Of course this sort of stuff has to come up within the perception of the client under hypnosis and not be suggested or lead from without. but it's all been done.
  18. George Harrison

I once met Peter Blake who designed the Beatle's Sgt Pepper album cover. I asked him who's idea it was to put the kriya yoga lineage gurus on it. Babaji, Lahiri Mahasaya, Yukteswar (upper left most) and Yogananda (close to upper right) can all be found on the cover. He said the gurus were all at George Harrison's request. Babaji and Lahiri Mahasaya are half obscured.
  19. Self hypnotism, autosuggestion

I teach 7th path.. its arguably the best form of self hypnosis on the market because its affect based. it's basically the self-hypnosis version of being able get some of the net effects of things like regressions, chair therapies and parts therapy. you can give yourself suggestions with it after you "empty the cup" of the emotional blocks and misperceptions. I sometimes offer to people who do sessions with me but often not due to time constrains. I quit smoking over a pack a day when I learned it without ever giving myself a single suggestion, just by using it as a meditation to get the funk out that I was unconsciously smoking to distract from. I meditated daily (a type of kriya yoga mostly) 15 years before learning it and nothing like that ever happened though I can see how for some people it might if they are lucky. One spiritual benifit I got from it is while doing other meditations I am now able to leave the head and drop into the heart area (or other organs) which I could not do prior. This was after multiple 7th path induced abreactions over the course of about a year where there was strong emotional release pertaining to things I didn't realized carried such heavy charge. Ironically I'm not a "highly hypnotizable" person, just moderate at best, meaning I don't pass all the tests first try but can do pretty good with practice. You can probably find a class somewhere near your area for around 95$ for two days. Sometimes recently certified 5 path hypnotherapists do classes at community centers to get their feet wet with demonstrational hypnosis. It has to be learned directly from a certified teacher and basic parts are communicated in a state of somnambulism, which is where most of the hypnotic phenomena takes place. I could see a connection with TCM.. pretty often people who come to me for sessions are also getting acupuncture elsewhere around the same time
  20. Do any Bums stare at Goats?

thoroughly enjoyed this movie! very funny in parts
  21. Sayings of past spiritual teachers!

"The ones who complain and talk the most about giving away Medicine Secrets, are always those who know the least." -Frank Fools Crow
  22. cleanliness is next to godliness...

cant really interpret those results without sample size or margin of error.
  23. ZHAU-MING-TING AND HYPNO-BIRTHING!

nice finds! I share an office space with a hypno-birther. Sometimes Ill do glove anesthesia (like with the needle on the hand) with smokers that they can transfer anywhere on their body if they feel withdrawl discomfort. Only if they are visibly doing really well with the hypnosis though and with a caveat that they don't mask pain that would indicate some need for treatment.
  24. Who were you?

yeah I agree for those people you need the advanced training with abreactions because you are essentially guiding them through the experience again and coaching them through it with out picking up the misperception. so that the traumatic event + 'thinking they are gonna die' during the event (for example) just becomes the event itself without the added indefinite trauma of 'thinking they are gonna die'. The unconscious hides that stuff as a protective mechanism and will usually wisely reveal it as its ready to be dealt with. It should come up in the context of the reason they are seeking the treatment. But it's true someone could have a sudden abreaction (what your talking about) merely from lightly going into hypnosis and the practitioner would have to be trained to handle that. IMO its always conducive to healing to get the stuck/repressed emotion out, you just don't want have them leave feeling all horrible
