Would like to hear how others experience "Qi" ?
exorcist_1699 replied to shontonga's topic in General Discussion
A feeling of qi accompanied with sex pleasure is a good sign , yet at the same time a dangerous sign. A feeling of qi together with a far-reaching ability beyond your previous ordinary , sensational range tells you the initial rise of Shen.. -
The Lotus and Diamond Sutra
exorcist_1699 replied to The Genuine Article's topic in General Discussion
Besides the request of "nourishing a MIND out of nowhere " , the "Diamond Sutra" clearly states that we can't reach the Buddha Heart through making/paying attention to any voices and visions , so chanting it of course is not the right way . Yet why people afterwards still keep on chanting Sutra of Buddhism so as to get Enlightenment ? In fact, it is the incapablility of getting rid of those trivials and layers , going straight directly to the core of the Buddha Heart and grasping it at one stroke that makes many Buddhist ways "degenerate" into searching helps from activities like chanting the Sutra and visualization. -
Taoism is for individual emancipation , I can't say that it is for human emancipation because in reality , only a small group of people are smart and tough enough to undertake such an enterprise . Yet individual emancipation should start from something small and realistic : incapable of getting rid of a cool and aging , never can we talk about individual emancipation . Although having aroused some people's aversion , I still have to say that aging is one of the most disgusting things I hate ; withered face with wrinkles and shaken teeth as well as AIDS , cancers ...all these things are not for we , an intelligent being you seldom found in this universe , to suffer .

The Lotus and Diamond Sutra
exorcist_1699 replied to The Genuine Article's topic in General Discussion
Diamond Sutra is always an important Buddhist classics of Buddhism , especially of Zen Buddhism. One of the most important claims in it is to " nourish a MIND out of nowhere "; of course , such an ability is beyond the reach of any dialectics of philosophical reasoning , in fact, most human minds. -
Man is accustomed to dealing with something and being , emptiness and nothingness definitely are alienated from most of them , yet there were some small groups of people , the ancient Chinese and Indians, who were good at such kind of challenging job . Different from the ancient Greeks, the ancient Chinese and Indians cleverly knew that emptiness and nothingness couldn't be handled by reasoning , but by intuition , an ability that most humans do not know how to make use of . After a whole day's work or in the Winter, when all agricultural jobs were done, people sat beside their bonfire, looking at the dim emptiness /nothingness before their eyes, a strange idea might accidentally come into the mind of few genius that , like a pool of still water, like condensed ice , the emptiness /nothingness in front might not not so simple as we thought...? Exploring emptiness is like peeing off the skins of a crystal -clear onion, never do you know how many layers you will go , how deep you can go. At the beginning , it is tasteless and boring , yet after having entered deeper, you start to taste its sweetness, its benefits... However, is entering into emptiness /nothingness also implies entering into our mind , making our mind bigger and bigger ,free of daily-life trivial, free of categories such time and space.. and making it into a much bigger, everlasting , magnificent Mind that unifying with the emptiness outside ? The difference between Taoist and Buddhist way is that the Taoists ,in this process , never think that a small , trivial mind can suddenly jump to become a bigger Mind , simply like moon reappearing from behind of the cloud , you need to have something more powerful to help you completing so many triple jumps ahead ....

In Taoist practice , a kiss of death is also a taste for immortality. There is always an ontological crisis in our existence as Existentialism claim, yet Taoism explains it in terms of the loss of jing and qi in every moment of our life , so the reverse process of refining jing and qi makes the solution of this ontological crisis possible .

This Mind is "intelligent" but not in the sense we generally comprehend. It does not deliberately design so as to achieve ;It does not do anything ,yet fufill everything . Does Tao "sense" of its own existence ? I think yes , because Man is the embodiment of It in this world ; however ,only after we started the process of cultivation and having reached the stage of Shen/ Enlightenment, does Tao become self-conscious.The more enlightened we are, the more Tao "conscious " of Itself; the more "delicate" our mind is , the more Tao's omnipotent power we can grasp .
-
The grasp of Tao is possible because we ourselves is the embodiment of it , the self-consciousness of it in this universe. Enlightenment of Man therefore can also be said to be the self-consciousness of Tao . This is why Enlightenment of us always leads to the attainment of huge ,universal power.

Explaining Taoist terms, to me, is like crossing a minefield , always having the possibility of provoking something that I should not touch ....anyway, raising some questions without giving answers seems inappropriate. Below are they: Foundation laid: Stop releasing jing forever. External medicine: Pre-heavenly qi from outside . It also implies the possible completion of the spiritual side of our practice . Internal medicine: It is the product of the intercourse between the Pre-heavenly qi and the jing in our body. That is, a fetus starts to be nourished. Genuine earth : concurrence of emotions/ideas .In TCM : every organ refers to respective emotion, for example : kidney to fear ; liver to anger ; spleen (earth) is said to be in the middle , can consolidate all those emotions/ideas . Genuine earth is important for getting pre-heavenly qi . Magic Gateway: It is the origin of all Taoist powers and magic. Without the open of it , all our efforts, in the end , is fruitless.

Pre-heaven jing always comes together with pre-heaven qi , and encased by it ; similar to our ordinary drive ,it gives us strong feeling of sexual pleasure , but not necessarily concentrated at the area of sexual organ ,likely in a much larger area...Simply speaking , pre-heaven jing is the part in pre-heaven qi where sexual feelings are sensed ; conversely speaking, having it also proves to you that your qi's level has a fundamental upgrade . But how ? Pre-heaven jing can't be aroused by sex drive / "dirty ideas" , but likely rises in a state of mindlessness ( more precisely speaking , a state of " chaos " ); The key is how to arouse sex pleasure without thinking of female's body, pants& stockings..etc , or even without thinking of anything ... Having attained pre-heaven jing also makes you easier to re-fill the loss of ordinary jing (sperm), for example , previously you need 7 days to recover , now only 2-3 days. Many people do not believe in Taoist truth about free of aging /disease . The reason is simple : they never get a taste of the pre-heaven "benefits" . Once they have got it , and found those changes occur in their body , of course, most of their doubts will disappear . In fact, only after having tasted the pre-heaven qi cum jing will people be emancipated from the blind worship of science and technology ( at least in the areas of life science and medicine ) , otherwise, most likely they are half-hearted.

Post Heavenly jing is always in some form and substance; pre-heavenly is formless. Post heavenly jing is the materialization of pre-heavenly jing in daily life ,so the loss of it can be in many ways: sex, nocturnal release ,overnight work, entertainment ...through our ears, eyes, mouth...even some minor dirty thoughts can lead to gradual deprivation of it . From this aspect , the life and death issue of our life in fact is just in between every interval of our streaming consciousness. The loss of post-heavenly jing also leads to the depletion of qi, which can easily be sensed by people who reach their middle age. This is the proess that people call it aging .

There are a lot of terms in Taoist Alchemy that seldom/ never heard in the West, and definitions of some of them are a little confused . Yet some are very important and the meanings are precise , here just mention some of them: Foundation laid External medicine (dose) Internal medicine Genuine earth Magic Gateway People who do not understand these terms, in fact, are still outside the threshold of Taoist practice .

If qi has its post-heavenly and pre-heavenly status, then of course, jing also has its post-heavenly and pre-heavenly status. Pre-heavenly jing is also called meta-jing ,the essence of life in this cosmos; retaining it and relying on it to invite qi from outside also means attaining immorality .Meta-jing can also be viewed as the pre-heavenly qi's embodiment in living things. As long as meta-jing is in our body, a guy even in his 80's is entitled to reproduction and of course, also to physical immorality.
-
With your body full of pre-heavenly qi , unless you yourself jump from that window or a plane deliberately smashes on your house , who can make you die ? Yet attaining physical immortality is not any of Taoist aims , but some kind of byproduct of a mindless , natural practical process ; so Taoism should not be blamed for arousing people's inappropriate expectation for immortality . Conversely ,it is people's inappropriate/evil drive that always make many of Taoist phenomena misinterpreted.
-
It is said that when good ways are done by evil guys, even good ways are changed to evil ways; conversely , when evil ways are practiced by virtuous guys , even evil ways can become good ways. For example, physical immortality is just an inevitable byproduct , just a criterion of judging how our practice proceed if we follow the Taoist jing-qi-shen framework , although never can it be the aim of Taoism , shallow-minded guys still blame us of leading people to unrealistic direction , of leading their beloved philosophical Taoism to religious Taoism...

If we want to initiate qi, then we pay attention to our dantian, not our breathing . If we want to settle our mind, then paying attention to our breathing is one of the ways. However, once our mind is slightly settled, we release it , never can it become any kinds of difficult problem. In the arena of Tao, things appear different from our ordinary life . It is always after we release it then we grasp it ; we forget it and it comes to us...
-
In daily life, we never pay attention to our breathing , and we breathe well. Now, in order to initiating qi / settling our mind ,we are told to pay attention to our breathing to an extent that it becomes such an important issue that neither our mind is settled , nor natural breathing got , not to speak of initiating qi ... Both initiating qi and settling your mind is like chasing after your girlfriend: never can you get her if you are too eager ...
-
Breathing is unlikely to be the problem you need to worry about .Paying attention to it will only push you to a dead end.
-
Thank you for telling me this . I do not know Xiao personally. My introduction is based on some critics and my personal reading of his books . Clearly what I refer to " first- class"...is talking about their ability of initiating qi to counter changes of time and political upheavals , nothing related to their social or institutional status. If his ability is high , then stay and escape are both choices ,escape is not the only alternative.

In Taiwan, the one whom widely recognized as the Taoist master is Shao Tin- Shek (蕭天石) , not Nan Huai-Jin(南懷瑾) ;anyway, both of these two guys brought along with them archives of Taoist and Buddhist writings , fled from China before the Communists' takeover in 1949 . In this sense, they both contribute to the continuity of Taoist and Buddhist legacy, and ,make the re-emergence of them in China and the West possible. Generally speaking , when the Communists took over China, those top-class Buddhist and Taoist masters chose to stay in China ( real masters are fearless of the upheavels of times ), and the second-class figures fled to Taiwan , the third-class figures fled to Hong Kong and overseas... Nan's criticism on some sects of Taoism , for example ,the Wu-Liu sect , from the viewpoint of a Zen scholar, does have its significance.
-
If talk about Taoist masters in Taiwan , then Nan Huai-Chin is never viewed as a Taoist master ; most likely people viewed him as a Zen master / scholar . "China's only surviving tripartite Zen, Esoteric and Taoist master " is clearly untrue and exaggerating . Unfortunately the most famous guy (in Taiwan, Hong Kong..)is not always the best guy.

Many living things such as bacteria and worms can enter near-death status for years ,even decades ,then resume alive when situation changes . However , only some humans , the Taoists , with the support of pre-heavenly qi ,consciously enter this status so as to explore the secret of life and universe ; this is the reason why they are privileged to live eternally.

Only few very good and clever guys/ladies can attain it . If you are not good enough, then lot of incidents such as loss of your job, a fire happen in your house , your wife leaves, war ...will interfere. If you are not very clever , then lot of different theories will perplex you : all living things were born and die, why exceptional...etc., making you distracting from the correct path . And, every step /level of your practice can have different trap that entangle you from further proceeding .... Even your sifu ( if he is a guy who really knows) can sometime be a blockade; in case you are not the "suitable " guy, you are not good enough , then he just tells something ordinary , making you think that the key is there , that is the highest level... in fact, it is not .

When pre-heavenly qi comes upon us, our previous physical life functions such as breathing and heart beating will recede; That is , when the real life arises, the pseudo life recedes. In fact, in practice, we can clearly sense when our breathing stops; by pressing on our pulse , we also can sense the slowing down of the heart beat and the final stop of it , yet without leading to physical death.... Many near-death experience are said to be sensed in such a "deliberate" effort we initiate so as upgrade qi...
