Hi everyone, What I read on another post board that Glenn frequented as explained by a person who he had expressed that he could leave at anytime was that medically speaking he died of a heart attack. From what I understand, he had a nice meal that night then went to sleep and never woke up. In respect, Matt

What can be found within is what is important. Sometimes external elixirs might make sense depending on where one is. For some, they work well and for others, it will prove unfruitful. Perhaps it is better for us to pay attention to what is coming to us and using intuition to follow what is right for oneself. With that said, I have found that the Red Reishi Mushroom or also refered to as the herb of immortaility, is looking to actually help a male adept to decrease testosterone levels. I read recently that for a man to become enlightened, he must become like a woman (energetically speaking). So sense you asked for opinions, those are things that come to my mind. All the Best! Matt

I forgot that I have experienced the fragrance. It was a few years ago and someone pointed it out to me that it was where I was in my office. I am hyper sensitive to chemicals so I don't ever have anything on or around me. It was around the time that I first started to experience the sweet taste, this person picked it up as fragrance and then I noticed it as well. I am pretty sure this all started after the kundalini / primordial energy awakened. It wasn't like anything I did except I practiced the formulas. Matt

Cam, I think you nailed it with the hormone thing... According to Chia's Cultivating Male Sexual Energy, it is when enough sexual energy reaches the pituitary gland. He also talks about it in Greatest when steaming from the heart center up, you may notice a sweet dew. I experience it from time to time. Now being one of them. It seems that it is more common to me in the Spring. I have heard about the fragrence but haven't experienced that myself or know much about it except that it can be part of the process. Schweet! I had tried to research this myself and didn't get very far. I found a book on Egyptian Magic which you can borrow next time I see you - but it is more about magic than spiritual practice, so I didn't find it very interesting. I did find reference to a practice called "ankhing" by I think Drunvalo Melchizedek which was essentially bringing the sexual energy up from the perineum to the solar plexus then out of the body around and over the head back in to the solar plexus. Not sure if that was channeled or how he got it (or even if that was where I read about it ). I just checked my favorites and found the following link to an Egyptian Tantra and an Egyptian Yoga book at amazon (haven't read them myself though)... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/188456403...elesterionbooks

Very insightful. I believe Dr. Chang would agree with it (author of "The Tao of Sexology"). Although not discussed, a thought I had was that there is the divine lover within which is what we are searching for externally in another. Matt

Came across this the other day... "In those days men's ears heard sounds whose angelic purity cannot be conjured up again by any amount of science or magic." Herman Hesse The Glass Bead Game Just one more example of the universal stringless lute...

I am currently studying some marketing techniques and they use them very well by getting you to sign up for free classes that cost them nothing after they are set up. There is nodoubt a reason behind that from what I am studying. Not necessarily a bad thing, just that there is a definitely a marketing strategy behind it. -
The difference between Therapy and Spiritual Practice?
MatthewQi replied to sean's topic in General Discussion
Sean, I haven't read all of the thread just your latest post... my comments (please don't take me too seriously, just my perspective)... Modern psychology, as you may know, is deeply rooted in Jung's understanding of what he learned from "The Secrects of the Golden Flower" and the "I Ching". Although some say he didn't totally get it, he no doubt influenced modern psychology. It is interesting that it is rooted in the ancient understanding of the Unconscious. "What if the stories of Enlightenments and Masters is just another mythology ... one that we find more palatable than stories of Heaven and God ... and more mystical and exciting than mere Happiness and Wholeness? Are we taking our stories too seriously? Are we going a roundabout way to our ultimate drive for some reason? What if spiritual teachers of the past were just passionate, highly skilled therapists that merely used the framework of religious beliefs they found themselves in to help themselves and others heal and evolve?" Mystical experiencs are very real yet subjective to the experiencer. Yet, there is an underlying common thread which is what spiritual practice is pointing to in general. Religions have been typically formed after someone has had these experiences and what these people share with the rest of the population. "What if spiritual paths are just sophisticated attempts at finding reliable methods of attaining the perpetual human quest of sustainable, long-term pleasure, free of suffering?" To those who have experience "it" there is no question yet at the same time there is no way to prove it to anyone else - exception being IMO that one can sense attainment in another in the right conditions. "How is the repeated modern Taoist emphasis on balance different than the therapeutic emphasis on safety? Is Taoist Alchemy as presented by, say, Winn, more like therapy than practices like Tantric Buddhism and Kundalini Yoga that tend to push you into scarier, unbalanced places?" I can't say about the therapy part of your brainstorm, but approaching "it" can be very scary regardless if the teacher or path says it is a gentler way or not. "If spiritual practice is really "higher" than therapy, why does it seem like spirituality detached from groundedness (ie, secular reason, therapy, etc.) so often turns to insanity and even violent, politicized religious ideology that litters history with atrocity after atrocity?" It is only "higher" in that it is the source which last time I looked, is responsible for all the good and BAD in this world. Instability in a person can be magnified when coming into the "Divine" aspect of ourselves. "What do you think is the ultimate goal of spiritual practice? What is the purpose of "transcendence"? Is it to be free of suffering? Is it just to stop being so selfish and to genuinely care about and help others? If so then what are you helping others do or be or feel ultimately? Bliss? Freedom from suffering? (It all seems to come back to pleasure / pain, doesn't it?)." The ultimate goal is to return to Source. This will happen naturally imo whether it is in this lifetime or not (and I am not necessarily saying I believe in reincarnation). Spiritual practice speeds up the process. Although becoming less selfish and more caring, etc. may occur naturally, if it isn't it is pointless. If it doesn't happen naturally, I am not sure that it really matters. Taoists believe in Ming or your destiny and fulfilling that. BEcoming Zen Rhen or your authentic self, whatever that may be is more important than imposing cultural stereotypes about what spiritual behavior is. "Are we "special" or somehow "more evolved" for overtly studying and practicing so-called spiritual practices? Should everyone be studying and practicing these things, or are some/most people where they are supposed to be just doing what they do? What about well-adjusted, relatively happy, generous people living an "ordinary" secular life ... do they need spirituality for something?" No, I don't think so as I believe there is a natural process in the world that works the way it works. Just like some flowers bloom and some never get the chance. But both of these flowers are part of nature and have the same root, so I don't think there is reason to worry. "Is a core strand of apparently irresolvable discontentment a pre-req to spiritual seeking?" In my case it was, in a lot of other people I know it was, but I have also heard of spontaneous things happening to people who never had that pre-req. All the best to you! I hope it is understood that I am not saying this is the final word on this stuff just my thoughts... Matt -

Same thing here. I registered but couldn't get in. I then emailed support and either wasn't responded too or it was the one message I accidently deleted from my spam folder without looking at it. -
Sean, Is there a way to tell if anyone is in chat now? Thanks, Matt

Just wondering if anyone has practiced Hatha Yoga and what your experiences have been with it. I recently did some very basic (but needed for me) Hatha Yoga with a teacher and I must say that I am amazed by the amount of Yuan chi that has resulted as well as the timeless states and general feelings of well being. The thing that I feel has contributed to this which I learned from the teacher is to breath properly as well as proper posture as well as the exercises to help with these. I am amazed at the yuan chi that builds from this simple practice of proper breathing and posture. It is basically a very natural kan and li. Proper meditation posture is taught in HT but the breathing isn't. I guess it is just part of the journey for me. I signed up for Yoga classes and am very much looking forward to them. Matt

It is very interesting this path is hmm As I have commented on before, the HT sexual practice (with mco) is a valid path in itself. Chia combined it with One Clouds 7 formulas as well as other things he learned along the way. However, what works for some, will not work for others. To me it seems there is something beyond technique that yields the "results" we are looking for. To me that is more importantly a sincere desire for the Truth that is beyond any other desire. Regards, Matt

It could be due to cultivation and so could an increased libido. Just be where you are - Know, easier said than done! Matt

I just have found Cleary's work to be filtered through a Chan Buddhist viewpoint. So if one shares that perspective, one might enjoy and get more from his translations. His translations of the Tao Te Ching and Chaung-tzu come up short compared to other translations I have read. But this is my perspective. It is rather a bizzare coincidence that I share this view with academics becuase my basis is more experiential and intuitive. I have enjoyed many of his translations though especially where his translations are the only ones available. Matt

Looks like good stuff (ayp site and the book)... I did notice that there was no mention of what to do with the energy during sex. The focus is on not losing semen without discussion and method for energy. Just pointing it out without wanting to knock this cool site but I think it is an important factor to those starting out with this practice. For more see Chia and Winn's book etc. Regards, Matt

Was in chat for a bit tonight and was asked to post the links as others might find them interesting or useful: Glenn Morris' Site: http://www.wholisticarts.org/morris.html Susan Carlson's Kundalini Support Network (KSN) site: http://www.kundalinisupportnetwork.com/ If you are into martial (I am not) you will probably enjoy Glenn's books, seminars, etc. If you are drawn to the spiritual path minus the martial aspect then Susan's KSN seminars might resonate with you. Both are very familiar with and teach Taoist methods and are modern Kundalini Masters. Matt

Hi Mike! All paths lead to Rome There really isn't much more to say about it other than different traditions and people may call it something different. Regards, Matt

I don't know if anyone has heard of Daniel Odier. I read his book "Desire: A Tantric Path to Awakening. I really enjoyed it. He is coming to NYC November 20th to give a seminar. I have an email in to get the details, I will post them here on this thread when I get them.
