Released: Seeking the Master of Mo Pai: Adventures with John Chang by Jim McMillan

Another question, if you care to clear it up...is how much of Kosta's book do you feel is actually factual? Most of it seemed at least believable to me, except for Chapter 5 - which claimed that Sifu Liao ZuTong had massacred an entire village (Pu Chia Siang) and his teacher, Pai LokNen, had fought to the death with warlord Lim (both at Level 51).. If Liao was really infamous throughout all of China for killing off an entire village at the beginning of the 20th century...where are the news reports or oral testimonies for this? And if one supposedly transcends karma and attains "immortality" at Level 30...why would one still care to stick around and duel to the death (do immortals even still have to worry about physical death?) past that point? This tall tale doesn't seem to quite add up? Did anything of this sort actually happen, or was it greatly embellished or fabricated as a parable or some marketing literary device? -
There are 2 main interactions: 1. 生 (sheng) - "generative" precursor - as mother nurturing child (water feeds wood) 2. 剋 (ke) - "controlling" checking - as grandmother supervising grandchild (water douses fire) 2.a. 乘 (cheng) - over-controlling - as grandmother over-controlling grandchild (water extinguishes fire) And also a complete reversal of 2: 3) 侮 (wu) - "insulting" - as grandchild rebelling against grandmother (fire completely vaporizes water)

What's the difference between kidney yin & yang deficiencies, and what are the symptoms of each? Other factors to consider are also the interacting organs with the kidneys. If your liver/gallbladder (wood) are flaring up with anger/frustration - this may suck the water qi out of your kidneys. Or if your lungs/large intestine (metal) are filled with grief/clinging to past, they may not supply your kidneys with sufficient precursor qi or temper your burning liver/gallbladder enough.

Any links to these books? -
Well, if you fully believe and go by the book...which boldly claims that you will be unbound by karma and reincarnation upon reaching Level 30... But pending some actual proof, I might remain a bit skeptical that a ruthless bandit later consumed by anger and dying a violent death...wouldn't have plenty of reason to still reincarnate?

Yes, Chapter 5 definitely has a mythologized Deng Ming-Dao air to it... But just to play along, it's interesting how many of the same themes still seem to echo here today: - Clan allegiance/loyalty & beefs settled with force (not mediation) - Unrepentant bandits vs. vigilante Justice - Martial arts arms race repeatedly driven by raging vengeance - Lim was "mercifully" spared, yet crippled for life...spurring him to train for 10 years like a madman, blinded by hatred in the hopes of vengeance. As he reached a sufficient Level 51, he sought out his old opponent and Master of Mo Pai, Pai Lok Nen for payback... Where Pai's disciple, Liao, then lied to protect him. Sound a little familiar, perhaps? While I totally understand Jim's feelings in just the here & now...there are some very intriguing psychological similarities and subconscious "tells" between his situation/mindset and Lim's. Of course, him & John were far from enemies - but Jim nonetheless also felt hurt, abandoned & angry from his experience. Well, call me crazy...but I can't help but wonder if he might possibly even be Lim reincarnated and still subconsciously "Seeking the Master of Mo Pai"...the "demon spirit" Pai Lok Nen, or his successors now? (This wouldn't mean that Jim is not still a nice & well-meaning guy - just that there might be some deeper karmic programs creating this whole scenario for him.) Like, what if...he "miraculously" cheats death...survives and somehow trains to eventually equal John Chang's level, or at least past 4 one day? And then confronts him in a retirement center "like a man" 10 years from now? No, I don't think they would physically want to hurt each other - however, they might attempt some sort of closure? Totally nutty theory - and the only reason I even proposed it is in the hopes that any deeper insight might be able to help Jim and the whole conflict here. But obviously, it could just as easily be complete bull poo too!

Well obviously, it compares nothing remotely in severity whatsoever, only in principle as a similar, recurring psychological pattern type. Although if you read that chapter, the clan rivalry simply started over water rights between 2 villages...and then kept spiraling out of control. So, that really didn't need to go that far, had it been handled more skillfully earlier on. Simply outpowering your opponent didn't fix it then...and karmically...it appears that those patterns may still be repeating now (albeit yes, thankfully in muucchhh more minor scope ). My point is just to try to explore and address the underlying issues here, not keep bickering endlessly over all the creamy froth at the top... -

Here's some content from his old site...not sure how much he really has to offer, though? Yes, there does seem to be a recurring theme of violent anger and clannish martial vengeance in the MoPai lineage. Here is my pet theory on that. -

I agree there are some cultural differences here, although not necessarily all the ones you believe. In traditional Taoism, teachers choose their students. Or, one might even say, they allow the Tao to choose their students for them. Now since the relationship is an extremely one-sided "paternalistic" mentorship, the students are essentially honored, lucky and "indebted" to receive whatever they are offered - since they have little to offer back (maybe only to "pay it forward?"). And, if a teacher doesn't seek a student out, accepts no payment and makes no promises...then he is under even less "obligation." In the West, life is more compartmentalized as the saying goes - "don't mix business with pleasure." A student might happen to develop a genuine friendship with a mentor, but more often than not, it is basically just a friendly financial transaction that ends whenever the payments do. There are a lot less complicated strings this way and less vetting needed, but these relationships also may not run as deep or intimate (which would risk becoming "unprofessional" liaisons). I think in both cultures though, many students DO often subconsciously seek a father figure in spiritual gurus. Even if that guru does not want or proclaim that role himself. (I "saw" this quite a bit in Kunlun, for instance - even though Max himself was reluctant to be anything much more than an instructor.) ANYHOW...this could get into a much longer discussion on cultural viewpoints and political history... *yawn* But, I think what might be more relevant in this particular case may be more specific to the MoPai lineage itself. In The Magus Of Java, Chapter 5 recounts deadly clannish rivalries and genocidal massacres between the Liao & Pu villages involving Sifu Liao Zu Tong, his teacher Pai Lok Nen and Warlord Lim. In this context, loyalist defenders swallowed their anger for years while training for vengeance. John compared this situation to Jews vs Nazis or Kosta's own native Balkans... Today, John himself appears somewhat torn between loyalties to his native ancestral neigong.and Western Christian dogma that attempts to both demonize, yet pirate it. And of course, on a larger scale, "Asian vs Western" students have simply replaced the old "Liao's vs Pu's." In fact, who knows...maybe some of these various students could even be reincarnated souls from either family! Here to try to resolve their conflicts again! Because history repeats itself until you solve it! Therefore, the themes of tribal warfare and mistrust seem to resonate in this soul group like an echo chamber. I feel like...there is actually the potential for a LOT of mass healing of entire generations of people here through all this drama, though...if handled in the right skillful, insightful manner... Anyhow, just another drive-by psychoanalysis here... Marinate overnight & tenderize, folks! -
Yes, by convention, the first chakra is the Mooladhara root chakra. The Swadhisthan sacral chakra is the 2nd chakra - and closest one to the lower dantian (that you would fill with yang qi)...

Sooo, is it freely available yet? And is this purely an academic philosophical interpretation, or does it also examine any alchemical correlations?

Ok, I realize I may come off as a "jack@ss clown" with the following HIGHLY-speculative armchair psychoanalysis here, but genuinely NO disrespect intended at ALL! I have actually been inspired by your strong dedication and training before.. /\ So just in the spirit of healing, I thought I might humbly offer a few casual observations, in case you might find them possibly useful. And if not, please feel free to ignore them. Do note that many of the annoying pet peeves that frustrate you about some posters here...are also exactly what some of the Indonesian students have accused you of. In psychotherapy, this is no mere coincidence - but a form of "Freudian projection." Yadda, yadda... Now, I don't really care how true any of this "he said/she said" is...my simple point is how identifying any possible "Freudian projection" (via "shadow work" or Byron Katie's "The Work") within yourself could serve as a crucial step in healing. Because then you could change it - and also your life-at-large by extension. And until you do, you will keep suffering these same patterns over and over ad nauseum... This almost sounds like you might have had a stepfather (or other father figure) that you never felt you met their approval and were spurned by? I feel this is where a lot of the real raw emotion and hurt lies. Which could be a classic monomythic conflict where the "hero" (you) seeks "atonement with the Father." Anyhow, to release turmoil and stop manifesting aggravating situations in life - one must uproot the cause of their turmoil. Life is a heroic journey to truly find and resolve that in each one of us. And I don't think qigong is meant to be a generic & complete, systematic template to shoehorn this entire journey into anymore. But rather, a useful vehicle or segment along the spiral narratives of our lives.. Ignore the broader, underlying thematic personal issues in your storybook life at your own peril, everyone! Getting a 5th-degree black belt...won't cure your alcoholism, in short. And working on one while neglecting the other (instead of together)...is spiritual escapism, not engagement and integration. Problem is, none of us can escape our own shadows! And this goes for everyone here! Respect & Best Wishes, All! -
As is around the entire world...!

Greetings Sifu. So, do you mean BOTH tridaya AND MoPai use unseen spirit (entities) for power & advancement? And are these 2 systems compatible? If not, how are they different in their approaches and results? Jim had mentioned in his book (p 245) that John had apparently been suffering from kidney problems. If so, does that mean that even (some forms of) high-level "inner power" do not necessarily ensure basic health? How would that compare to xiantian neidan of opening your microcosmic orbit, which is by contrast, reputed to vastly improve one's health? Is this testicle & penile retraction or shrinkage permanent? Is puberty essentially reversing here? Can you still have sex again afterwards, or no? What exactly causes this bleeding? Anyone else not find it here? Could you provide the Chinese characters of this text title?

Hasn't Level 2 has been one rumored to be more possibly hazardous to your health? If he might have prostrate? (catherized?) cancer or something, I don't think that's necessarily a death sentence. If he hasn't already, he might try some numerous "alternative" therapies. Especially if he has little else to lose at this point? Or who even knows, this could even possibly be some transformative monomythic "small death/rebirth" experience for him? Maybe he might even pass over and meet with some MoPai lineage spirits? Although, if he believes they're "demonic" and he's going to Heaven instead...then maybe not? ZJF = Dr. ? JiangFeng (江峰)? Who is Lin Cun Yi? And anyone heard anything about Luo Kang Qi? Who are Yang & May Yuen Chen? Well technically, you could complete Level 1 in just 81 hours! Like 2 work weeks.. -
Why was Jim's father so tough? Enlightenment stories from Spring Forest Qigong Master Jim Nance
gendao replied to voidisyinyang's topic in General Discussion
Cool backstory! I think it is VERY important to understand and make peace with our own DNA "hardware" & ancestral/past life "firmware." Because all these "factory" programs run very deep and powerfully in our lives. And unfortunately, a lot of these lines of code are dysfunctional - creating all sorts of traumatic episodes and patterns (as you can hear in his generational history - and many others...). So, it is paramount to correct all this coding in order to end all these repeating cycles of dysfunction. There will be no proper outer functioning until there is proper inner functioning! If you want to fix a glitch on your screen, you have to fix the code, not punch or turn off the screen! And qigong should be used as a tool FOR, and not an ESCAPE from, this. The archetypal "monomyth" is the bigger backdrop that qigong is just a handy app within. And if you miss the entire backdrop, then you are missing the bigger point! This is the real reason why Chunyi & now Jim engages in personal storytelling - to emphasize the importance of integrating this practice of qigong within the proper context of each person's bigger picture of their own life (not excluding it). Very often teachers just focus on teaching the technique like an isolated practice. But it cannot be separated and compartmentalized from anyone's personal life, as everything in our lives is intimately, holographically connected together (feng shui). We are not just robotic technicians, after all? This is interesting because I've noticed that a LOT of "psychic/spiritually-gifted" people have Native American ancestry. So, I suspect there might even be something in that bloodline that confers those traits & abilities.. -

Well yes, that would be the other end of "more with less." Those who breed the fastest also do generally "happen" to be the poorest. Like, "Octomoms" and "Kates Plus 8" are literally almost the norm in sub-Saharan Africa! People there who can barely even feed themselves...don't let that stop them from having more! And the West's solution to this is to enable these habits by airdropping more money on them and adopt more of their kids... Well, how could you possibly expect a region averaging over 5 kids per woman to be as wealthy as some with 2 or less? I think the wealth pyramid would be far more informative if it actually correlated the various factors that help to shape it. -

And naturally, this professor's name is "SUN." Anyhow, the wealth pyramid raises some underlying questions like what the correlation between wealth & happiness actually might be? Or "should" the natural distribution of wealth naturally resemble more of a bell curve or a fatter-tailed Pareto's power law? -

Nice crowdsource! Was definitely worth investigating...although it could be a false alarm since this photo shows that dude with his backpack still on AFTER the blast... So, it's likely that "Craft" was somehow already right there waiting at the scene (yet escaped the blast), but in an indeterminate role and certainly not definitely directly implicated now. But, were they possibly there as a "clean-up & cover-up" crew? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWUB4MCLsHg And the similarity of the backpack is still intriguing... Again, all still worth investigating further..- 137 replies
