My teacher tells me that he sees a spiderweb and each node of the spiderweb is the access to a different dimension. I've not seen that, but I have had in meditation a vision of infinite overlapping layers (like that of an onion) - first thought that came to mind was, holograms within holograms.

At one stage of my life (in my 20s), I used to see Himalayan Sadhus every night -- in my dreams, in between sleeping and waking -- they used to call me to join them. This happened every night for months until the day I decided to get married. Then the main Sadhu, a kindly old man said, "He's not going to make it this time." A couple of decades later, while I was visiting the Himalayas, they told my teacher that he was to be my guide/mentor this time and that I will have to come back again to complete a mission. Later on, it became visits from other (dimensional) beings (for example one visited me with the head of a fox and then split into nine fox beings). And then it became visits from sages and deities during the day, in waking time as well. The last big one, was by Lord Krishna -- when he visited me, there was so much light and such a high tone that accompanied it, that I had to close my "eyes", bow my head and say "Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna" -- and I was embraced by him. It was like looking into the sun as the sun came hurtling towards you... Now it only happens when I want it to happen -- ie when I'm looking to connect with specific deities or Gurus (works better with those whom I have a connection with). Also, I am visited by those (there have friends and family as well), who have either just departed or are on the verge. I usually send them love and direct light towards them. This happens to my teacher on a regular basis too -- something to do with my lineage through him.

Indeed, I've had many such experiences as well. I think whenever we talk about these phenomena, it is good to consider that they are at a transactional level (however rarified and subtle it might be). These can be milestones, or tools for accelerating realization. Here's an article I'd written on the subject of milestones -- https://www.medhajournal.com/sometimes-we-need-the-spiritual-milestones-and-the-signposts/

Some are already established, IME. So the maintenance/management/usage is through ritualistic practices and meditation at the site. Some others need to be charged up for future generations -- like my teacher is doing in Devil's Lake WI. Sometimes it is not a particular place, but an object that can be charged up, such as the Dhyanalinga consecrated by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev. I've not personally experienced it, but those who have (spiritual friends with high degree of advancement), have testified that it indeed is very powerful. One person fell into a 12-hr long samadhi just sitting in front of the dhyanalinga (he said, "I wanted to sit down for 10 mins, and before i knew it, 12 hours had gone by).

Yes. Indeed...it feels like left side and right side of the brain are vibrating at different frequencies. And then when the balancing/merging happens, one single resonant frequency and stillness. Usually, the different frequencies happen when the mind is caught up in crap. Once the mind is freed, balance follows.

We have plenty of cicadas in North America during summer. But of course, the sound persists 24x7x365 Yes. It was one of the very interesting aspects of my "awakening" so to speak. There is awareness in dreams and deep sleep too, and with it, also is this sound (hard to explain/describe as the mind in deep sleep is blank, but awareness and this tone remain).

That's how it started out for me. It usually is more like "bubbles" (like from a soda can). Do you get the sense that you've always actually heard it (a sense of familiarity)? Some other people who practice tantric meditations/techniques say it is "white noise". Different minds latch on to different labels for this phenomenon. One friend says "thousands of windchimes" and so on. Do you also ever maintain "awareness" of this sound through dream and deep-sleep states?

This is interesting. Do you sense this to be different from the previous two?

there were many in the ancient world. Luckily in India, the old world has not yet disappeared, so the power spots have been kept going. Usually there are temples created in those areas and they can become transformation sites for pilgrims. But there are others still that are known only to a select few. I think such places are still around all over the world, but are relatively unknown due to modernity and blind faith. Interesting. Tell us more!

I think neigong will open you up enough to start hearing this sound. Do you notice times when it gets stronger/louder/higher frequency? Or is it a steady tone? Also, do you hear it differently in the left vs right side?

What do you practice?

The Anahata sounds are very interesting. Back in 2002, I spent a lot of time doing pranayama, yoga, and meditaion, also it was around the time when I seriously started my yang style taijiquan practice. I would hear sounds of bells tinkling, flutes playing etc (as articulated in the category of Anahata sounds in yogic texts). The cicadas song, I didn't even notice when it first started -- since I practice taijiquan and daogong a lot outdoors, I'd hear very high pitched singing of cicadas, I always assumed there might be a lot of cicadas in my backyard. And then one day it turned out that there WERE no cicadas, but I still heard the singing. Then eventually I was able to discern between the sounds of the actual cicadas and this higher-pitch sound (a lot of cicadas in summertime). In the early days, it would only occur when I was practicing. But gradually, it became a continuous companion. Later on, I realized that I had always heard this sound (recognized it as something I'd heard even as a child, but simply ignored it until it faded away into the background). I asked my teacher about it, and he said it is the sound of Dao. Also, Lairg is right, the "high tones" (I call them HT) are also accompanied by (and amplified by) visiting entities/deities. There are many experiences that cannot be shared in a public forum, primarily because people will think I'm plain crazy. Powerful beings/deities also bring blindingly bright light along with the HT. I am very fascinated by power spots -- the first one I realized was in my hometown in India - Mysuru (more famously known as Mysore for its Yoga roots). Since I had grown up there, I didn't recognize it. I eventually moved to the US, where I've lived for a long time now. On a trip there in 2016, I felt the power for the first time -- it felt like I was plugged into a high voltage powerline. Mysuru's ancient name is Krounchapuri, and it is one of the 108 shakti-peethams (literally, power place) per the Shakta Tantric tradition. The other most powerful place I've been to is Kasardevi Ridge in the Kumaon region of the Himalayas. Other places I've felt this are in Devil's Lake, Wisconsin, and then this time in Death Valley. I also felt something similar when I visited Kenya (Masai Mara) and Tanzania (Ngorongoro crater). I've had visitations by local deities there.

I know that this is not the same. What I’m referring to is called “anahata” sounds, not tinnitus.

The Truth is Simple. It is hidden in plain sight. It is so simple that as a rule, most people don’t see it. Even if they’re told the “secret”, they don’t believe it. A great Indian mystic from the Middle Ages, who used to share the truth in the form of poems (couplets) wrote — Musk lies in the musk deer’s own nave, But roam in the forest he does – it to seek; Alike, God pervades heart to heart, But men of the world this don’t conceive. * In man himself the Master dwells, But man, deluded, knows not this, So similar to the musk deer who Again and again the grass sniffs. * The seeker of Ram*, says Kabir, To the Singhal Island** did march; When in himself he was convinced, He found that Ram pervaded his heart. * God exists, profuse, in each place, So don’t think He’s less here and more there, Those who say He’s far – He is far, Those who know Him near – He’s near. * I knew God to be far away, But He is ubiquitous – here and there; Thou didst know Him to be far off, He’s far off though very near. (Source : https://zocalopoets.com/2012/04/11/kabir-of-the-musk-deer-15th-century-hindi-poems/amp/) Ram (Rāma) is an avatar of Lord Vishnu, and the great Hindu epic Rāmāyāna, is the story of his life. This brings me to the penchant for complexity. Like the musk deer, who doesn’t know that it holds the musk in its own navel, goes crazy searching for it throughout the forest sniffing grass and thorny bushes, people don’t realize that they carry the spark of divinity within their own spiritual hearts, searching here and there, looking for the Truth/Self/Enlightenment. Thus follows elaborate plans and schemes to control the body, produce golden elixirs and alchemical gymnastics, and before long, the time is up, and the mind, caught up in the quest for knowledge and “mastery” gets lost in the labyrinth of its own creation.

The penchant for complexity, and the simplicity of Truth
dwai replied to dwai's topic in General Discussion
A teacher is needed to point the way. If pointing doesn’t work, teach us to still the mind. If stilling the mind doesn’t work, teach us to calm the body/consolidate the energy, and focus the mind. And then reverse the direction. -
One western internal kungfu teacher claims, and I’ve heard/seen many claim that traditional senior masters have deliberately hidden the secrets of internal martial arts from western/modern students for reasons such as — xenophobia (or borderline version of it thereof) Greed (lead you on so you pay more money) Testing the sincerity of the student and the list goes on and on. My experience has been the opposite. The “secret” is not a secret at all. Just that we as modern people have a tendency to overcomplicate things, expecting complexity and looking for it every where. My teachers have all given me the straight scoop, but initially I couldn’t believe that things are as simple as they have described. Instead of looking for physics, biology, anatomy, etc etc in the internal arts, if students simply listen to what the teachers say, the knowledge is directly and experientially available. what do you all think?

Spent a few hours doing taijiquan and meditating with my friends. Happy Spring!

You meant dawei/Karen?

Clyman was never Master Liao's student. He was Ron Hoffman's student and was disowned by Ron eventually. As far as the "stick man method" is concerned -- it is not how condensing breathing is taught in Waysun Liao's system. Doing condensing breathing prematurely will result in all sorts of problems. Over the years, my teacher has had to help heal some of Clyman's former students who were damaged from practicing incorrectly (as taught by Clyman).

It makes sense in that context. Perhaps the Chinese word doesn’t directly translate to “law” in English either? I’ll do that next time I hang out with the boys
-
FWIW, That’s a poor translation imho. Dharma is an untranslatable. It doesn’t mean “law”, it doesn’t mean “rules”, it doesn’t mean “doctrine”. It literally means, “that which upholds the source” (dhr - to uphold, ma - source).

Based on your response it seems that much is getting lost in translation. You are making assumptions based on poor translation from English to Chinese, and it’s quite likely that I’m not getting the context of your response. It will be better if you engage in English directly - I feel it will be easier to communicate that way, rather than rely on translation software
