ā€œDo not seek illumination unless you seek it as a man whose hair is on fire seeks a pond.ā€ ā€• Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa ā€œThat knowledge which purifies the mind and heart alone is true Knowledge, all else is only a negation of Knowledge.ā€ ā€• Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa

  3. One of my kungfu brothers asked me to try this and Iā€™ve been practicing this for several months now. After a strong physical workout (which for me involves cardio and strength training), I sit down and let the mind settle. Just stay in the present moment, the stillness and depth of silence entered is very restorative, and brings about a profound equanimity. Some days if I feel the energy is very agitated after the workout or feel too stuck inside the body, I will expand the center above the crown, raising the energy through central channel, and then let the mind rest on that center ā€” releasing every perturbation into the vast space that center is the doorway to. Thought Iā€™d share, and if anyone has thoughts to share, please feel free to comment, add your own insights and experiences.

  9. Emotions are the path

This describes it best to me ā€” There sight travels not, nor speech, nor the mind. We know It not nor can distinguish how one should teach of It: for It is other than the known; It is there above the unknown. It is so we have heard from men of old who declared That to our understanding. (Kena Upanishad 1.3)
  10. Emotions are the path

When I try to find out, all I get is silence and stillness. All I know is I am. Thanks will give it a listen later tonight.
  11. Emotions are the path

Are consciousness and energy two separate entities? Yes - in a transactional model. Thoughta arises from that deeper truth. I am therefore I think. But the self-reflexivity is the notion "I am". It is the first...this is called the "aham-sphurana"...I think it is the proto-thought (the root of the mind, so to speak).
  12. Emotions are the path

Primary or secondary to what? Both There is a kind of knowing that occurs without thought, but the recognition of that knowing requires thought.
  13. Emotions are the path

I agree with that -- although, thoughts are patterns of consciousness, that appear in consciousness, are illuminated by consciousness, known to consciousness, and dissipate within consciousness. Isn't recognition a thought as well? Can you recognize without a thought? Can you tell me who you are, without thinking?

  15. Emotions are the path

Indeed, that is a most pertinent question. What is vibration in absence of Thought? Can there even be vibration without thought? If vibration is a phenomenon, ie and object of knowledge, then it cannot exist without a thought (i.e., canā€™t be known).
  16. Emotions are the path

Motion is only possible when two opposing forces act upon each other. Without the ā€œconflictā€ motion is not possible...is it? Without the duality of the two polar opposites, no movement can happen. Emotions are interesting. Is there a difference between thoughts, emotions and feelings? Are emotions just the effect of thoughts? Like heat and light are effects of a fire? Is it that a thought sets off a vibration of energy which reverberates through space (Akasha) and the nature of the vibration is what the mind interprets as an emotion?

Thereā€™s something to be said about the ā€œhopā€ though. I think only people with proper training can do the ā€œhopā€ and not land on their butts. Whenever Iā€™ve bounced untrained people they tend to move like a sack of potatoes. When executed with controlled very small release of long power, the recipient will be sent away in direct of release and end up hopping to retain a balance. Most of the videos Iā€™ve seen (including a few of mizner) are very small release of long power. So person moves back or bounces up and down (if jin is that way), if theyā€™re not neutralizing. It happens if skill levels are mismatched to a high level. When my brothers and I practice this kind of drills, sometimes one person stops neutralizing, so the other person can practice fajin. So the bouncy bouncy stuff happens. When we are drilling na jin, then the jerk/extra hopping etc happen. I think Mizner and other folks from the HSS/YSH lineage tend to use Na a lot ā€” so they end up ā€˜sock-puppetingā€™ their students who donā€™t neutralize. Hereā€™s some Na Jin drilling I recorded my brothers doing. Here one person is practicing applying Na jin, so other person is not neutralizing. If both are actively neutralizing it doesnā€™t look like this at all ā€” In the videos they say they canā€™t neutralize, but Iā€™ve seen that is only the case when there is a huge skill difference between two people. If level of ting and sung are identical often nothing much will happen without some way to ā€œtrickā€ the other person into giving up ground.
