I didnt say "demons are products of the human mind"... this is a quote from the Wiki article. And did you read the part before the quote? Tsultrim Allione has worked with Labdron's practice.... She quotes: So if you want to know why it is translated this way, you will have to ask her. But for what its worth, Im not surprised it doesnt make sense to you.

Druidism and Shamanism - Differences? Similarities? Can someone be both?
9th replied to DreamBliss's topic in General Discussion
Very little is known about the actual, ancient druidic order. The modern reconstruction is mostly based on fanciful speculation. Just as most people have absolutely no idea what the concept of "faery" originally entailed, most people will not be able to conceive the actuality of druidic practice in ancient times. There are good reasons for all of this. Just as the knowledge and wisdom revealed during initiation in the Eleusinian mysteries were kept secret for the 2000 years they were in practice, as well as the 1600 years after the practice was wiped out by the Christians. -

Machig Labdrön (Tibetan: མ་གཅིག་ལབ་སྒྲོན, Wylie: ma gcig lab sgron, "Unique Mother Torch from Lab", 1055 - 1149) was a renowned 11th-century Tibetan tantric Buddhist practitioner, teacher and yogini who originated several Tibetan lineages of the Vajrayana practice of Chöd. Machig's Chöd, also known as Mahamudra Chöd, has been widespread in Tibet since Machig's lifetime. It is also called "The Beggars' Offering" or "The Cutting-Off-Ritual". Chöd is a visionary Buddhist practice of cutting attachment to one’s corporeal form (in terms of the dualistic proclivity to relate to one's corporeal form as a reference-point that proves one's existence). This means that a practitioner offers the mandala of their own body in a ganachakra rite. The practitioner works entirely with their own mind, visualizing the offering, and—by practicing in lonely and dreaded places, like cemeteries—works to overcome all fear. This is also why Chöd was often used to overcome sickness in order to heal oneself and others. In some lineages of the Chöd practice, chodpas and chodmas (practitioners of Chöd) use a bell, small drum (a Chöd damaru), and a thigh-bone trumpet (kangling) made of human bone (often obtained from the charnel ground of sky burials). Although they are referred to as demons, it is clear from Machig Labdron's writings that the entities being dealt with in Chöd practices are formulations of the human mind, rather than supernatural beings. Tsultrim Allione has worked with Labdron's practice since 1973, and in 2007 was herself recognised as an emanation of Machig Labdrön. She quotes from Machig Labdrön's teachings on Chöd:

is complete devotion to a path "worth it"? looking for guidance

Some people have a natural born tendency to live in and express ecstatic states, which is not honored and revered in our times. In fact, it is sublimated and repressed, both systematically and recursively. Plenty of these people may have no clue about this aspect of themselves because it was so effectively pushed into unconsciousness in their early youth, as they were conditioned by society (i.e. raised by parents, educated by teachers, etc). But these tendencies don't ever go away, they just go unconscious and therefore manifest in any number of ways. One of the most common is the use of drugs. For such people, drugs are very attractive because they give access to a crude simulation of their own natural inner state. The drug experience is enough of a reminder that it has a special attraction regardless of whether the person recognizes it is a desire to return to their innermost being or not. -

Master Lu Tzu said: Breathing alone serves to remove laziness. Although the breath that flows in and out through the nose is not the true breath, the flowing in and out of the true breath is connected with it. The decision must be carried out with a whole heart, and, the result not sought for; the result will come of itself. In the first period of release there are chiefly two mistakes: laziness and distraction. But that can be remedied; the heart must not enter into the breathing too completely. Breathing comes from the heart. What comes out of the heart is breath. When the heart stirs, there develops breath-power. Breath-power is originally transformed activity of the heart. When our hearts go very fast they imperceptibly pass into fantasies which are always accompanied by the drawing of a breath, because this inner and outer breathing hangs together like tone and echo. Daily we draw innumerable breaths and have an equal number of fantasy-representations. And thus the clarity of the spirit is depleted just as wood dries out and ashes die. Should a man have no images in his mind? One cannot be without images. Should one not breathe? One cannot do without breathing. The best way is to make a cure out of the illness. Since heart and breath are mutually dependent, the circulation of the Light must be united with the rhythm of breathing. For this, Light of the ear is above all necessary. There is a Light of the eye and a Light of the ear. The Light of the eye is the united Light of the sun and moon outside. The Light of the ear is the united seed of sun and moon within. The seed is also the Light in crystallized form. Both have the same origin and are different only in name. Therefore, understanding (ear) and clarity (eye) are one and the same effective Light. In sitting down, after dropping the lids, one establishes a plumb-line with the eyes and shifts the Light downward. But if the transposition downward is not successful, then the heart is directed toward listening to the breathing. One should not be able to hear with the ear the outgoing and inhaling of the breath. What one hears is that it has no tone. As soon as it has tone, the breathing is rough and superficial, and does not penetrate into what is fine. Then the heart must be made quite light and insignificant. The more it is released, the less important it becomes; the less important, the quieter. All at once it becomes so quiet that it stops. Then the true breathing is manifested and the form of the heart can be made conscious. When the heart is light, the breathing is light, for every movement of the heart brings about breathing power. If breathing is light, the heart is light, for every movement of the breath affects the heart. In order to steady the heart, one begins by cultivating the breathing power. The heart cannot be influenced directly. Therefore the breathing power is used as a handle, and this is what is called protecting the collected breathing power. Children, do you not understand the nature of motion? Motion can be produced by outside means. It is only another name for mastery. One can make the heart move merely by running. Should one not be able to bring it to rest then by concentrated quietness? The great holy ones who knew how the heart and breathing power mutually influence one another, have thought out an easier procedure as a way of helping posterity. In the Book of the Elixir, it is said: The hen can hatch her eggs because her heart is always listening. - The Secret of the Golden Flower

communication with passed teachers, masters, etc. is not the "holy guardian angel" that crowley referred to, thats for sure... he was already communicating with dead people anyways, apparently (allegedly) anyways, "the abyss" is a test of will, trajectory, and unified momentum.. its a place that strips away the chaff, but if all you are is chaff, then you get crushed and blasted and scattered.. its a place of directionlessness, a writhing chaos that requires active penetration, like a veil that must be cast aside... if you've got the juice, then you become the juice and are reborn as that juice

THE EARTHLY MINISTRY OF JESUS When Jesus appeared on earth, he performed miracles and great wonders for the salvation of humanity. And since some [walked] in the way of righteousness while others walked in their transgressions, the twelve disciples were called. He began to speak with them about the mysteries beyond the world and what would take place at the end. Often he did not appear to his disciples as himself, but he was found among them as a child. One day he was with his disciples in Judea, and he found them gathered together and seated in pious observance. When he [approached] his disciples, gathered together and seated and offering a prayer of thanksgiving over the bread, [he] laughed. The disciples said to [him], “Master, why are you laughing at [our] prayer of thanksgiving? We have done what is right.” He answered and said to them, “I am not laughing at you. <You> are not doing this because of your own will but because it is through this that your god [will be] praised.” They said, “Master, you are […] the son of our god.” Jesus said to them, “How do you know me? Truly say to you, no generation of the people that are among you will know me.” THE DISCIPLES BECOME ANGRY When his disciples heard this, they started getting angry and infuriated and began blaspheming against him in their hearts. When Jesus observed their lack of [understanding, he said] to them, “Why has this agitation led you to anger? Your god who is within you and […] have provoked you to anger [within] your souls. [Let] any one of you who is [strong enough] among human beings bring out the perfect human and stand before my face.” They all said, “We have the strength.” But their spirits did not dare to stand before [him], except for Judas Iscariot. He was able to stand before him, but he could not look him in the eyes, and he turned his face away. Judas [said] to him, “I know who you are and where you have come from. You are from the immortal realm of Barbelo. And I am not worthy to utter the name of the one who has sent you.”

Interesting set of contradictory statements here. But putting it simply, the occult idea of "the abyss" has nothing to do with the ancient idea of "the tao".

What To Do When Someone Says You Are Going To Die?
9th replied to DreamBliss's topic in General Discussion
You have to be aware of the uselessness of your self-importance and of your personal history. How can anyone feel so important when we know that death is stalking us? The thing to do when you're impatient is to turn to your left and ask advice from your death. An immense amount of pettiness is dropped if your death makes a gesture to you, or if you catch a glimpse of it, or if you just have the feeling that your companion is there watching you. The issue of our death is never pressed far enough. Death is the only wise adviser that we have. Whenever you feel, as you always do, that everything is going wrong and you're about to be annihilated, turn to your death and ask if that is so. Your death will tell you that you're wrong; that nothing really matters outside its touch. Your death will tell you, "I haven't touched you yet." Think of your death now. It is at arm's length. It may tap you any moment, so really you have no time for crappy thoughts and moods. None of us have time for that. The only thing that counts is action, acting instead of talking. - castaneda One of the best means for arousing the wish to work on yourself is to realize that you may die at any moment. But first you must learn how to keep it in mind. - gurdjieff Now when a man is truly wise, His constant task will surely be this recollection about death, Blessed with such mighty potency. - buddhaghosa "Here shall I dwell in the season of rains, and here in winter and summer"; thus thinks the fool, but he does not think of death. For death carries away the man whose mind is self-satisfied with his children and his flocks, even as a torrent carries away a sleeping village. Neither father, sons nor one's relations can stop the King of Death. When he comes with all his power, a man's relations cannot save him. A man who is virtuous and wise understands the meaning of this, and swiftly strives with all his might to clear a path to Nirvana. - dhammapada -
There is much wisdom there for those with eyes to see... _______________________________________________________________________________________________ My acts are sincere but they are only the acts of an actor because everything I do is controlled folly. Everything I do in regard to myself and my fellow men is folly, because nothing matters. Certain things in your life matter to you because they're important; your acts are certainly important to you, but for me, not a single thing is important any longer, neither my acts nor the acts of any of my fellow men. I go on living though, because I have my will. Because I have tempered my will throughout my life until it's neat and wholesome and now it doesn't matter to me that nothing matters. My will controls the folly of my life. Once a man learns to see he finds himself alone in the world with nothing but folly. Your acts, as well as the acts of your fellow men in general, appear to be important to you because you have learned to think they are important. We learn to think about everything, and then we train our eyes to look as we think about the things we look at. We look at ourselves already thinking that we are important. And therefore we've got to feel important! But then when a man learns to see, he realizes that he can no longer think about the things he looks at, and if he cannot think about what he looks at, everything becomes unimportant. Everything is equal and therefore unimportant. We need to look with our eyes to laugh. When our eyes see, everything is so equal that nothing is funny. My laughter, as well as everything I do is real but it also is controlled folly because it is useless; it changes nothing and yet I still do it. One must always choose the path with heart in order to be at one's best, perhaps so one can always laugh. You don't understand me now because of your habit of thinking as you look and thinking as you think. By "thinking" I mean the constant idea that we have of everything in the world. Seeing dispels that habit and until you learn to see you will not really understand what I mean. A man of knowledge lives by acting, not by thinking about acting, nor by thinking about what he will think when he has finished acting. A man of knowledge chooses a path with heart and follows it; and then he looks and rejoices and laughs; and then he sees and knows. He knows that his life will be over altogether too soon; he knows that he, as well as everybody else, is not going anywhere; he knows, because he sees, that nothing is more important than anything else. In other words, a man of knowledge has no honor, no dignity, no family, no name, no country, but only life to be lived, and under these circumstances his only tie to his fellow men is his controlled folly. Thus a man of knowledge endeavors, and sweats, and puffs, and if one looks at him he is just like any ordinary man, except that the folly of his life is under control. Nothing being more important than anything else, a man of knowledge chooses any act, and acts it out as if it matters to him. His controlled folly makes him say that what he does matters and makes him act as if it did, and yet he knows that it doesn't; so when he fulfills his acts he retreats in peace, and whether his acts were good or bad, or worked or didn't, is in no way part of his concern. You think about your acts, therefore you have to believe your acts are as important as you think they are, when in reality nothing of what one does is important. Nothing! But then if nothing really matters, as you ask me, how can I go on living? It would be simple to die; that's what you say and believe, because you're thinking about life, just as you're thinking now what seeing would be like. You want me to describe it to you so you can begin to think about it, the way you do with everything else. In the case of seeing, however, thinking is not the issue at all, so I cannot tell you what it is like to see. Now you want me to describe the reasons for my controlled folly and I can only tell you that controlled folly is very much like seeing; it is something you cannot think about.

Is it possible to remain in the Non-dual state and function in the world?
9th replied to dwai's topic in General Discussion
total absorption in a non-dual state would entail the dissolution and dematerialization of the physical body the tendency for people to claim "absolute" status of any kind whatsoever is immediately suspect, at best it would be inspiring to see people stop chasing titles, trophies, status, etc. etc. on the path of cultivation, but eventually you will find that for most people, its simply another occupation, another habit with which they distract themselves from actual reality... and therefore it retains all the trappings and bullshit of that same-old "hide the rabbit" routine- 208 replies

is complete devotion to a path "worth it"? looking for guidance
9th replied to Pits&Bieces's topic in General Discussion
The path is not a matter of reason or rationality. Your arguments above have nothing to do with anything other than your own internal dialog - as a means of maintaining and sustaining the status quo in your life, whatever it may be. Can you get legitimately higher without drugs? As in, actually "high"? Yes - but I dont think you understand the price to be paid there. In my experience, the vast majority of people are not willing to put themselves through the trouble of genuine ecstatic work - with all the ups and downs, ins and outs, and just general lack of control. They might dip into it every once in a while, as a lark, a vacation, a fancy, etc. As a lifestyle, its pretty rare - for good reasons. Generating that level of ecstasy in the midst of a productive life within society is difficult in the extreme, because society fucking hates ecstasy. It transgresses boundaries, its messy, it makes people lose control. The psychological systems that are spread through "growing up" within society react to ecstasy with an immune response. Its kinda like how hackers spread malware to networks of computers secretly... without anyone's knowledge... then whenever they need the muscle for a DDOS attack, they activate their "zombie network". This kind of speculation is worse than useless. Its like saying "ok what happens if someone comes along and chops my dick off - what would that feel like? how would i piss?" Its not that there is no point to it - its that you are actively fucking with yourself - you are creating phantom issues and obstacles. One thing I can suggest right now is to entirely forget about the idea of "enlightenment", because I can assure you that you have no clue what it actually is - so there is no point in worrying about anything in relation to it. There is way too much focus on "enlightenment" as a goal, which is wrong. Its an ongoing process. It is something you "do", not something you "have". Once you become aware, you will be aware, and there will be no need for such questions because you will understand why such questions are less than meaningless. -
