No wonder you're so screwed up. j/k "Practice" and school/work don't have to be two separate and opposing things. Thinking this way is probably just because of some fantasy. There is always something you can practice, even if you don't have time to do "formal" practice. If you don't have oppurtunity to do formal practice now, you can try to make it possible in the future (like finishing school, getting a job and saving some money). And in general if your "internal stuff" is in order, so will be your external.

Yeah, I kind of have this feeling that he won't look at that link. But I could be wrong. Cute girl though.

I wonder if I'm on some sort of reverse ignore list or something, because I can't see his posts in this thread.

That's not true, many are sitting and some of them are in lotus position. And I always got the impression that the lotus is the best position and often if not always reccomended. However, it's not indespensible like Drew is saying. The real reason for it being considered the best is very simple. It's supposed to be really easy to keep the spine straight in it for long periods (I say supposed since I can't get into it hahaha), which is the most important thing. That is, a straight spine/correct posture is more important than the position you're in.

Can lions achieve liberation in a buddhist sence?
Pero replied to mewtwo's topic in General Discussion
Yes, that would do us all much more good, not just Mikaelz. So best for all of us to follow your advice. -
I think something like that too.
-
They're not. Hari is wrong here or hasn't worded it right. No such thing as universal tatagarbha. But then it depends what "universal" means to you.

Hurray for Australian Prime Minester Rudd!

Good points. -
But you find him credible?
-
And he never said that it was. If I remember right, it was level 4 in Lei Shan Dao. So I don't know why you guys are going on with this Mo-Pai business.

LOL isn't that the yogameditation guy?

Fortunatelly this is not quite true, otherwise I'd be already dead or at the very least seriously injured many times.

Can lions achieve liberation in a buddhist sence?

I don't know how it is in other Buddhist traditions, but in Tibetan Buddhism there exists something called Trolwa Trukden (if I didn't mix something up hehe), meaning six liberations, six because of six senses. If you'd give an animal something to eat which was empowered with specific mantras or practices, or if they hear those mantras and so on, it creates a cause of liberation for them. That means that they have connection to the teaching, and in one of their future lives they can achieve enlightenment. At a teaching I was at with Mingyur Rinpoche, a woman asked him if it helps if she directs thoughts to the animal, like for example that this animal would achieve enlightenment, and he said that it can. -
Can lions achieve liberation in a buddhist sence?

They have Buddha nature, but just having it isn't enough. There also has to be access to teachings, then actually applying those teachings. For ordinary humans there is no way to communicate the teachings to animals. No teachings, no practice, no enlightenment. -

Yes, but not ordinary schmucks like us. You'd have to be a Buddha or at least high on the bhumis I guess. I think in sutra there is some stories how Buddha manifested as some animals and gave them teaching that way. -
Can lions achieve liberation in a buddhist sence?
Pero replied to mewtwo's topic in General Discussion
Generally no, because they don't have access to Buddhist teachings. Generally no, not in their lifetime. -
I don't know, I remember reading about something like this from years back, and there were pictures of the village and skeletons, rocks that were melted... I don't remember the name, so I've no clue if this is the same thing.
-
Cool, thanks for sharing.
-
Yeah I'm not thinking that we should just read about, that of course isn't enough. IMO you need both, though personal experience is more important.

So Michael, when you studied medical qigong, did they just give you some exerices and after practicing long enough you just knew everything about medical qigong?
-
Well, it's not like there was actually a vote possible or something... Have you emailed Sean? Because that's what he asked. (also because he don't come here much no more hehe)
-
Well I haven't seen anything similar myself. Only in the book Qigong Empowerment and that in the Buddhist Qigong section haha. But in any case, I think the context is completely different, even if there would be same technique (like you say for central channel) it's not enough. Of course I could be wrong since there are thousands of qigong versions out there and I certainly very little of them. But this is my opinion.
-
Why? Sorry if I upset you.

But where did you find the pictures then hehe?
