  1. DEATH

Lol, not really what I meant. And I have no idea what you`re saying here. What are "whippersnappers"? I think that this state is supposed to last around three days. During that time, everyone who dies, doesn`t really realize that they`re dead. So a dog still thinks he`s a dog, and a human still thinks he`s a human. But after that, they lose the attachment to the body or something like that, and become more like a mental body or something. And then there is no difference anymore between the dog and the human.
  2. Lol, I have no idea. I`m a s skinny guy and don`t care for such things. Besides, doesn`t fat make you warmer? So it would be kind of counterproductive no? (I`m just kidding) Yeah, but if you watch anything long enough, you begin to see what you want or expect to see.
  3. Thanks Max, cool story. This is the fourth version of tummo that I have seen. Thaddeus, since you reccomended Shou Yu Liang in another thread, in his book Qigong Empowerment, there is an exercise called "spiritual flame", which is I believe tummo. In tantra however, tummo requires an initiation and you have to do creation stage first. Tummo is a completion stage practice. First you have to build the mandala of the deity and purify this dimension, then you are given instructions on tummo. I wonder where the author got these practices. There is a book specifically on tummo, called "The Bliss of Inner Fire" by Lama Yeshe. But I think it says in the book that one requires permission for practice (or an empowerment?) or something like that, if you practice anyway you fall in the hell realm... But it`s a cool book. If you want to try it (and have no permission), "Spiritual Flame" is good. I practiced for a while, does create heat. And BTW, while tummo creates heat, that is more like side effect, because tummo is a method for total realization. And I think I remember something about it being the base for the other 5 yogas of Naropa? Not really. Because of the many millions of people, who practices qigong for such things, and with such great dedication that is required for it? Most practice for health, relaxation, fun, and have their jobs, family to worry about etc...
  4. DEATH

Well, of course, if you`re next to a dying person, and on the outside it seems like you don`t care or look happy or something it might upset them. Every culture has some kind of ritual or something for the dead. I don`t think there`s anything wrong with that. But clinging to someone for a long time after his death isn`t good for you (maybe for the deceased also). But what do I know, I haven`t died and lived to tell the tale yet. There`s a difference between holding back and having some belief or understanding because of which you are not so emotional when someone dies. Holding back of course is not good. Anyway, if I`m lucky, I`ll spent the final week of my life completely alone.
  5. Desiring What Is

    What exceptions? Who`s imagining?
  6. The Mystery of Consciousness

Lmao, indeed. And a quote before I go: "Since everything is but an apparition, having nothing to do with good or bad, acceptance or rejection, one may well burst out in laughter." - Longchenpa

  8. Book recommendation for MCO

Yup, it is a pretty good bet. It was the first Chia book I ever read, and I probably liked it most (except maybe for Cosmic healing 1). Be careful not to confuse it with "Awaken healing energy of the Tao" which is also about MO, but there`s a lot more in it, and it`s quite complex and confusing. I wouldn`t even know where to begin if I hadn`t read the other book first. I think a lot of people here recommended Eric Yudeloves first book, "100 days to Better Health" (or something like that). But I don`t have it myself. I think it would also be good if you checked out Trunk`s site Alchemical Taoism Not all sexual practices may be safe to do from Chias books (so I hear haha, but it`s also why you should check out Trunk`s site)... But other people here have more experience, so they`ll tell you more. :)
  9. Daily Mantra, pep talks and prayer

Hmm, will have to try this sometime (soon). Hahah, cool. :D
  10. The Mystery of Consciousness

Yes, I agree!!! The last paragraph... It means to me that Buddha gave ethics and conduct because of the danger of falling into the "trap" you`re talking about above. Did you mean that? Oh, wait haha. One thing I don`t agree. Totally enlightened beings = no negative karma left to purify (maybe even no karma?). Happy, happy, happy!!!
  11. without a teacher

Lmao, are you making fun of me? I`m so happy. :D: (not related haha)
  12. The Mystery of Consciousness

Great Rex. But what do you mean with: "Now lacking a zealous missionary streak..."? SeanO, I was eating my soup somewhere between 8-10 hours (I don`t remember exactly) before you posted, somewhere between 1 pm and 3 pm my time. "Attachment and aversion are like two legs on which human beings walk on"...
  13. without a teacher

Hmmm, depends I guess. On what are you trying to learn, what kind of capacity you got, what`s your previous knowledge etc. Some things can`t be done without a teacher at all (like vajrayana). A lot of things you can learn without one, but the thing is, then there is no one to correct if you`re doing something wrong, you can`t ask for advice and such. Of course that shouldn`t discourage you from learning. But, obviously, you should use common sense and great care when learning on your own. The good thing is, that there are a few places on the net like this forum, where some of your questions might be answered. So even if you have no teacher, you can still find others that could help you. And don`t despare, it`s said that a teacher comes when the student is ready. Doesn`t mean you should stop searching though.
  14. Hehehe, I know, I was just being whiny. I meant more like posts that have new stuff in them later, not spelling mistakes. But anyway lol, relax Tsa. Post as you like, I didn`t think anyone would take it that seriously. There is nothing to forgive.
  15. There is not any real complete objectivity in physics. The act of observing already changes things. Wave-particle anyone? (not that I know much about physics of any kind... failed my first exam on it as well haha) As for superpowers... Didn`t anyone watch X-Men 3?!?! EDIT: I hate it when people do that. In past few days I`ve seen like 20 post that were different after I looked at them the second time. Some had volumes of new stuff written. Can`t you guys just make a new post? (yes I know, I`m doing the same thing right now) Anyway, very cool Tsa. You do have some interesting questions. I hope you find your answers sometime.
  16. The Mystery of Consciousness

Lmao Sean, I knew you were going to say this!!! I was thinking about it as I was writing my last post. And I haven`t a good answer... You may laugh, but to me it just stops thoughts for moment hahaha, can`t think of anything. (ok, so I also laugh ) Hmmm, I was going to write something, but decided better not to (as I`m a bit in doubt so best to be silent)... I`ll just say that they (emptiness and movement) are both part of our real condition... For which it is said that "even the toungue of Buddha was weak to explain". How could I then? BTW, funny that you said mushrooms for the soup... I ate it today (mushroom soup that is), and still have some left.
  17. Daily Mantra, pep talks and prayer

I usually just beat myself on the chest and yell... But the rest is interesting too. Do you guys to these things throughout the day, or just at certain times maybe (like in the morning)?
  18. Hmm, wasn`t that actually Bagua against Hsing Yi? In any case, it was a cool scene.
  19. I think he would probably say to you something like: "Try it for yourself and you`ll see."
  20. The Mystery of Consciousness

I think I read, that cultivating emptiness only, can lead to rebirth in the formless realms, if one dies before he realizes anything. I`m not sure if this (and what you said next) is right view, not sure. Maybe, but I think that is dualistic view... Hilarious. That`s why there are different teachings. Also, I think happiness is an emotion. Buddha is beyond that. Perhaps more like perpetual bliss. Interesting topic. Gives lots of food for thought. Which may or may not be so good. Ok, hope this works now.
  21. The Mystery of Consciousness

But isn`t that exactly what dzogchen teaches? Everything is perfect since the very begining. Yeah, I forgot about that. Need both for what? But I`m not my thinking. If I remember right, people become Arhats not because they don`t have any compassion, but because they don`t practice bodhiccita. Their intention is only on liberating themselves, they don`t think about others. Almost forgot. Here`s a little story about a boddhisattva, an arhat and a preta. May not go exactly like this, but maybe it can be found online. There was once an arhat who heard there was this great boddhisattva staying near him. So, he goes to check him out. He finds the boddhisattva sitting on a chair and eating. And he has a preta on a leash next to him. The arhat thought this is very strange. He eats and gives nothing to the preta who is hungry and keeps him on a leash. The bodhisattva notices the arhat, and says: "Hello, I have to go away for while for some bussiness. Can you watch over this preta while I`m gone?". The arhat agrees. But before he goes, the boddhisattva tells to the arhat: "Whatever you do, do not give any food to the preta!" and then he leaves. The arhat thought it very strange: "What kind of a boddhisattva is this, he has no compassion." So after a little while he wanted to show some compassion and decides to give the preta some food. And the preta is very happy and satisfied as he will get some food. But as soon as he takes the food into his mouth and swallowes it down, the food turns into burning fire, something like lava and it causes the preta infinite pains. The boddhisattva then just returned and was upset, he says to the arhat: "What have you done? I told you not give him any food." The arhat replied: "I am sorry. I thought you have no compassion. I was wrong, I now see you have great compassion.". Of course. Ones own experience is most important. You don`t really believe that? (mystery or not...) If you`re really awake you are enlightened. Although, I guess there could be stages of awekeness (?). Like the 10 stages of bodhisattvas or something like that. Interesting thing that happens to me occasionally is that when I see other people, they all seem asleep, sort of like sheep or maybe zombies haha... Unfortunately I would say I am asleep most of the time myself. All of the above exists in our dualistic vision... And, have you never meditated? (I know you have of course...) I would say, that even though someone apears "barbaric" on the outside, it`s still possible that he`s already enlightened. Actions of enlightened beings don`t neccesseraly make sense to us. Yes, I think that is coming from sutra teaching, where emptiness is more like the goal. Lol, the void is part of you. Wayfarer, what is artha? I checked on google, but don`t know what you mean. EDIT: hmmm, why aren`t the quotes working right? Ok, I think everything should be fine now. And I shouldn`t forget, all what I said is my understanding and view, which is impure, so I could have said something wrong. If so, I`m sorry (don`t want to be spreading wrong view). Ok, damn, quotes still not good. Will try again. Ok, will try to separe into two post. Maybe there`s to many quotes for one post.
  22. The Mystery of Consciousness

Well of course we aren`t born to be emptiness. And we`re not. But emptiness is part of our real condition. And in this regard, there is no difference between me, you, a dog or anyone else. The is no difference between my nature, yours or Buddhas. While it may seem that in Buddhism the body is rejected or something (and I guess some do that), it`s not really true. Buddha himself said that our body is prescious and we should treat it with care. And human realm is considered the best for realization, even better than god realm. I think you are putting all of Buddhism into one basket, there are many different teachings in it. The way you see it, it seems to me, is mostly renounciation, sutra style teaching. But even so, since everything is an illusion (but is also part of our real condition), including mind, how can there be a split? I might not be explaining this in the right way though... In a way I actually see Buddhism in a way "unifying the fragmented, un-whole body, mind, and spirit into a coherent conscious whole." Only that maybe there is nothing un-whole to unify in the first place... I won`t share the poem in public, I`m too shy for that. And I wouldn`t want people to make fun of me. (and boy, a year back I would never have imagined myself talking about buddhism)
