I would hope not. I doubt he's directly interested in posting in the internets anyway though. Your analogy is incorrect since Christians have nothing to do with Buddhism while that unfortunate practice is from Tibetan Buddhism itself. He didn't ban any system, just one practice. And I think he didn't "ban" it but asked people who follow him not to do it anymore and that people who still do it shouldn't attend his teachings. And also a lot of people seem to think that Tibetan Buddhism is some kind of a democracy, it isn't. This doesn't mean everyone has to follow what the Dalai Lama says though. I'm not really sure that he was persecuted because of his religion, more likely because of his power over the Tibetan people. Yes and that is exactly what the Dalai Lama did and consequently asked Tibetan Buddhists not to practice that anymore. Or more like Gelugpas because this "protector" isn't practiced in the other traditions.

Hm yeah, I suppose it really is hard to understand why I would think that someone who CHALLENGED Padmasambhava (a nobody really, just one of the greatest figures in Tibetan Buddhist history) has no faith/devotion in him. I guess in this day and age that's the appropriate way to address people important to us, right? And it's not like there's people going around saying "I can see him but you can't ha ha ha" or something, so I don't know where you get your idea of one upmanship.
-
That's like an ant complaining to another ant that it tried to challenge you but you didn't respond. Not to mention that Padmasambhava is said to be present in front of people who have faith/devotion in him (which you don't seem to have anyway), not that people will actually see him. As far as I know people who can see him already have quite some realization and people with such a realization are probably far and few inbetween. edit: this in refference to Padmasambhava, have nothing to say about Kan.

I see. Is there then a particular reason you used the Japanese word for barrier? Have you found something like this in one of the Japanese traditions? I'm just curious.
-
I can't believe you're being serious.
-
There is something like that in Vajrayana, a component of some practices, I don't know about the rest of Buddhism. Are you Japanese?
-
Ah I see, thanks for the explanation.
-
I doubt that since what you call Shambhala Buddhism is Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche's creation (perhaps it was a terma teaching of his, not sure). He wasn't around that far back. Not to mention there is absolutely no apparent connection with that, the Karmapa or Buddhism in general in that article. Just some strange connection you made up, which you seem to be fond of doing. Hm yes, obviously Buddhism.

My condolences.

Anton Temple - Becoming the Lotus I thought this because you said "year long gong", the book says one could achieve the full lotus pose, through practicing the exercises in it, in one year.
-
Are you following Temple's book? Curiously my right hip is also blocked. In one of the youtube videos (or comments on them) someone said that usually the reason for one hip being more flexible than the other is sitting on the chair with crossed legs a lot, with one leg on top more than the other. For myself though I'm not sure if it's not an injury from basketball, I once fell on my hip, perhaps something moved.

I don't doubt that but since I'm not exactly overflowing with money I'd rather put it into things I might find more useful.

Interesting, I think I haven't heard something like that since the first time I learned a healing sounds (not the 6) practice. I've completely forgotten about it. Oh and thanks for the interesting description!

Damn, sounds amazing. What is the purpose of this kind of organ control though?

What's up with Buddhist cause + effect across lifetimes?
Pero replied to beoman's topic in General Discussion
Well one thing is that in the past Tibet invaded China. Another thing I've heard is that they've made a mistake by keeping the teachings to themselves and didn't spread them. And that Mao had the most accumulated merits of any person alive at that time so he couldn't be stopped. LOL. In any case karma manifests when there are the right secondary factors, it could just as well be that the seed for Tibet's destruction was there for a long time, but it couldn't rippen till the fifties. In reality we can't know why exactly something happened unless we're a Buddha. -

Not really. Just being a monk won't purify karma. But if you're a good monk you won't be accumulating more negative karma and accumulate more positive karma. Also, we accumulated infinite karma, just because we do some practice doesn't neccessarily mean it's all purified, it's not an easy thing to do. And this kind of view of Tibet is a little romantic, the actuality is that many Tibetans then and now don't understand Buddhism that well. The Dalai Lama even said that while his parents consider themselves to be Buddhists, they don't really know what they're doing. So I find it quite questionable that Tibet is the most purified country in history or something like that. Western world is screwed. -
I wish there was a video of someone doing that because I can't imagine how moving an internal organ is seen from the outside.
-
Ah thanks a lot. You saved me some money.

What makes you think that? -
LOL, not sure what you mean, but you know, the Earth is flat where I'm sitting.
-
How so? If I believed the Earth was flat and told you so, how would I be lying to you? I may be mistaken about the Earth being flat but I'm not sure if that counts as a lie as well.
-
Even if it's not true, is it a lie if you really believe something? edit: big typo hehe...
-
Wait, so the 9 Palaces qigong requires practice out in the sun?
-
Can you tell me why?
