  2. Clearing up Dhamma and Tao

Both are very complimentary to each other. The teachings of the Buddha are an excellent way to know the nature of the mind. The Tao encompasses all religions/belief systems.
  3. How often do you engage in stillness meditation?

Recently, I arranged an appointment with the abbott at my local Theravada monastery to discuss my practice. I had some training in vipassana meditation at the same monastery a couple of years ago and wanted some guidance on how to deepen my practice. One of the things that he suggested was to not FORCE myself to meditate every day. Take a day off every week. That way the meditation can be fresh. I must admit that I did used to beat myself up if I missed a session. Now I don't. I don't give myself any added pressure, and it works.
  4. The Tao Bums Know-it-Alls

I've been known to drop in a few sarcastic one-liner's now and again, but there's definitely no malice. This forum is about sharing information and comparing practices, and I can't think of a better place to do that. I've lurked here for years and only started posting recently, but what I've learned from this site has been invaluable. OK, so our ego's get in the way sometimes, but that's just part of being human I'm afraid.
  5. meditation time

Early in the morning is the only time I have for cultivation. To avoid drowsiness, I do movement and standing first, then sitting.
  6. A Practice for Patience

A lesson to us all. Very moving. Thank you for that. Maybe we should try a little harder.
  7. Advice / Opinions

This is an excellent book The old guy doing the exercises in the book is Wang Ji Wu. He is in his 90's when the pictures were taken. Fluid, flexible, strong and robust. Hope I'm like that when I'm older.
  8. Case study -Camping - Night Pee-ing

Well, that's me totally bolloxed. Me and the family went for a walk in the woods today. I stood in dog shit and later had to have a pee. This was before I read these topics. What am I to do

  12. Why I gravitated to Taoism (over other traditions)

Hey dragonfire, you speak very wise words. That's exactly how I feel. The Tao can not be owned, bought or sold.
  13. Laws of Attraction

When the student is ready, the master appears.
  14. The Human Purpose

Very true, though a LOT of people on here will disagree with you.
  15. Bones of the Master by George Crane

I read this a few years ago. Excellent story. Shows the horrors of Chinese communism. Walking all the way from Inner Mongolia to Hong Kong to escape was some acheivement. May have to read this again.

  17. Something you must know about Tao Te Ching

I would also like it if one person was responsible for this awesome text. Guess we'll never know.
  18. The FU that is annoying

The guy is still at it. Multiple topics every day. Taoism hats, shoes, robes FFS ! Selling this and selling that. Fair enough if it's books or payment for someone's time. But programs, courses, distance learning etc etc. The Tao is not for sale. Herein lies the problem of our materialistic society.
  19. Something you must know about Tao Te Ching

Where is the evidence that it was 'Lao Tzu' ?
  20. Something you must know about Tao Te Ching

Agreed. It was probably the work of several 'authors'.
  21. Different Altars to Worship

    The toilet ?
  22. Vegetarian/Veganism

I'm the only vegan so far ! Wow , I thought there'd be more.
  23. Last time you were sick?

After about seven years of nei gong and meditation, I hardly ever get sick. If I do catch a cold, it's normally gone within a couple of days, where before any internal work, it would linger for a couple of weeks. Two weeks ago however I caught full blown flu, which I have only ever had once before. I literally couldn't move for 2 days and had hot and cold shivers. After 2 days it turned into a stuffy head cold which I'm just about over. It makes you think that if I hadn't done any internal work, I would have been really ill. No wonder the elderly and very young can die from such ailments.
