I am rather new to vegatarianism (a little less than a year) and I have not picked up a cook book or learned very many new, distinct recipes. If Anyone who can guide me to a few, or have some of their own that they are willing to share, it would be appreciated. Thanks

Again, thank you.

Taoism needs no Gods. The Tao is not something to be worshiped and ritualized.
-
How gets to define that? Chinese? Americans? Confucian lifestyle? And I don't think a system of rigid commandments fits into to the philosophy of the Tao Te Ching. But you can pay others to kill your meat and fish?
-
Well said. It is the first line the the text for a reason. To say the Tao is this or that restricts it, hence the use of interpretive metaphor and paradox throughout the Tao Te Ching. It is both nothing and something... and even that is a restriction!

I do not eat fish either.

I fear the day when people will be made criminals for not getting "chipped." And also, Obama is not a communist, he is probably just as afraid as the rest of his country folk of the very word. I live in Canada and Obama's policies would hardly classify him as a liberal leaning conservative. The Canadian conservative party is more liberal than the american democrat party. Communism is a word that gets thrown around alot with little understanding of its pure concepts, as does capitalism... or any mass ideology for that matter.

Spiritual Australian's write new song
Anabhogya-Carya replied to sissaly's topic in General Discussion
I don't think there is anything spiritual about an american president, or Barack Obama for that matter. -
Sorry, I misunderstood.

I think they were both created empirically by the Greeks or the Chinese. Observing what they saw around them and applying it to a spiritual construct later. We have new elements now (empirically found), many more than 4 or 5; they are still applied to spiritual constructs (mainly in New Age). Perhaps I am not seeing the point as to why someone would want to use this system still....

I don't think all the fighting made the world beautiful. Or has.

Most Events that Happen to us do not Matter! An amazing talk by TED

i can agree with that. -
I do not think an atheist was acknowledging the existence of god in this article. I thought it was more a satire than a profession of faith...

I have constant deja vu, not due to any practice. I find it keeps things interesting and mysterious.

where did you find that 'FACT'? written in some ancient allegorical text?

Most Events that Happen to us do not Matter! An amazing talk by TED
Anabhogya-Carya replied to Pietro's topic in General Discussion
Logically, in effect, discovering Taoism, your meditation/cultivation, potential enlightenment does not matter. A simple modus pollens : Premise 1: if events happen, 100% of them don't matter Premise 2: events happen, life is a series of events Conclusion: nothing matters. What do you mean by 'events' ? or 'matter' ? -
We still have the problem of corporations controlling more than governments, and governments controlling more than their citizens approve of.

Reducing the sex drive of a sex offender
Anabhogya-Carya replied to markern's topic in General Discussion
I do not think anyone can give a perfect definition of "bad," or "good" for that matter. And I did not know the orgins of bad had a connection to being effeminate, although some people still hold this connection today.... Calling bad anything unacceptable to the individual is how it is used in language, yet few relieze this. I guess the most important thing for everyone at upon that realization would be to considered why they find certain particulars bad and others not. I like when discussion that are seemingly simple, like sex offense, turn into a epistomological debate And on a lighter note; your cat looks very... wise. I presume that most cats are. -

Reducing the sex drive of a sex offender
Anabhogya-Carya replied to markern's topic in General Discussion
I agree with the second point. But I still do not think that there can be inate badness can be proven, or that it even exists at all. Naturally, we apply to word "bad" (or its ancient equivilent) to things that harm us and this may have been its origin, but over the course of history it was construed into an apparently independent standard used to classify many things outside the realm of actual harm (culturally relative things). Thus I think the idea of an independent standard of badness does not exist. This, of course is based on the idea of the possible absence of an ultimate, eternal deity, since things of the divine do not reside in the realm of rationalism or empiricism and cannot be proven. Of course all that I have said above is just as subjective as anything else. You have proved nothing. Your experiences are easily decieved. -
Reducing the sex drive of a sex offender

You assume that humanity is not subjective. No where did I include myself in such a group. And bravo to a wonderful response.... The harm is based on the individual and what causes that harm changes throughout time. I do not condone rape or child molestation. But it is only a case of majority rule, one group placing the health and validity of their desires over another, the group in power that creates the system around these sexual preferences. It is the forcing against ones will that causes the harm (this could be anything outlawed in a system), it is not the sexual preference itself. Also be wary of with which eyes you are viewing something. And no, nothing is "inherently" bad. I challenge to prove inherit badness or define bad objectively. -
Do not think it is not alright jsut because "prophets" said so.
