edit About self-healing: I do not think I would be walking without the practice of Stillness-Movement. I do think I would be fully handicapped, in deep pain, and non productive without the practice.
-
Just remember to allow the body to move when it wants to. The perception that only beginners move and advanced practitioners don't is not true. I move in most all my sessions. SHAKING is generally rarer than movement, except on a smaller vibratory scale .

If you ever get that inside info let me know as I would be interested in knowing that answer as well. There may be someone who has a copy who would sell it at cost. Or just read a few pages at a time on computer. I have the same problem as you about reading on LCD's and use my kindle a lot as it does not cause the same problems. The new paper-white kindle with internal light looks like a great solution to reading.

The way I do it is Stillness-Movement sitting qigong, then SM running qigong, then Gift of Tao movement qigong. Great way to start the day.

Not really. Our neigong is a balanced approach utilizing yin and yang and your description is not what we do. http://qigongamerica.blogspot.com/2011/03/stillness-movement-gift-of-tao-neigong.html Best to just practice a system that is taught to you. Focusing on mentally confusing details can tend to screw up one's practice. A balanced approach of movement and internal methods is what I consider the best approach. Their should be no problem pulling in yin qi and yang qi from a top story. I do so on airplanes all the time. The wire simply grounds out static electric fields. Not necessarily increasing the magnetic field in the body except to the extent where static electricity was interfering (and if one touches Earth occasionally that is taken care of). Access of Earth's magnetic inductance is not dependent upon wire, or many thousand feet up. But do practice wherever if feels best to you.
-
Stillness-Movement is neigong and deals with both yin and yang qi integrating into a whole. Do the exercises then no need to even think about any differentiation. You do not have to sit on a wire to gather yin qi, although a person may or may not find sleeping while grounded beneficial - I have heard stories both ways - yes and no. Personally I just touch Earth several times a day. I did experiment with the ground wire about 30 years ago. In the Gift of the Tao movements one can find the exercise "Walking in the Qi" to be as powerful as any other qigong or neigong in "gathering yin qi".

Chinese Taoist Medicine & Stillness-Movement Medical Qigong
Ya Mu replied to Ya Mu's topic in Group Studies
Initially, we ask students to practice 1 hr per day and we ask healers who work in clinic to practice minimum of 3-5 hrs per day. Eventually, we get where we have constant awareness of the energetics of Stillness-Movement vibration; so 24/7. -------------------------- Timelessness - very common with this system. Can't predict when it will happen for any particular practitioner. -
Stillness-Movement goes Billnas, Finland! On Sept. 1.-3.

I think for most of us this practice is a life-changing experience. I believe the practice will help you immensely on your journey. It was a great pleasure to meet you. Floor infinity, please. Yes, results like these with such a high degree of efficacy from first time practitioners is almost unheard of in the field of therapeutics. Actually, it is unheard of in most forms of therapy. Society desperately needs more practitioners of methods that work to this degree of efficacy. Thank you for being an amazing host and for all your work making this event happen. It was a great pleasure to finally meet you in person. A great pleasure to meet you. Practice is the key. --------------------------------------- An incredible experience and honor meeting up with such a culturally diverse group of people. Final attendance were people from England, Scotland, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Sweden, Russia, Romania, Norway and USA - all extremely nice folks. Thanks to all for taking the time & effort to learn these true neigong forms. Practice is the key. -
Chinese Taoist Medicine & Stillness-Movement Medical Qigong

It certainly can just be mental interference. But another thing that can happen is when we reach a certain "flushing with qi" level. At this point one has reached the minimum level of practice required to have really gotten an acceptable effect. Most of us, however, do go back into it so as to optimize our session. In other words, some people stop here and have gotten a very good effect but those of us who go back to dan tian and do more practice get optimal effect. See you at the ocean! -

You should be banned and your posts removed as you are still attempting to derail the thread. But you are finally truthful in posting a part of your motive. Speaking of disgusting... -

Now are you telling the truth here? I certainly would not accept you as a student. You may get by sneaking into a workshop but no teacher I have ever met is going to share with you with this type of attitude. I suggested you actually study medical qigong and enroll in a school but I can see it was the wrong suggestion as one can't learn anything unless they are willing to do so. Reading books is not the same thing as studying medical qigong but believe what you wish. You say on one hand you didn't know what to do then turn around and say you already know all about it. Sounds to me as if you have ulterior motives for DERAILING A THREAD which is allegedly against forum rules. This thread topic is plainly marked. Why not start your own thread about why teachers with knowledge are evil? I am sure you will have many admirers. -
Stillness Movement Neigong and Michael Lomax's 'Light Warrior's Guide' Book
Ya Mu replied to mjjbecker's topic in General Discussion
And this is quite OK. I can move significantly when practicing lying down and do practice it this way. Still, especially initially, it just isn't the same as sitting. Removing the range of motion restriction helps most people in the movement. Once we have practiced a bit we can translate this to just about anything. -
Just be yourself. You don't have to conform to what you feel others believe you should be. Most of us who are practicing the Taoist internal arts certainly have had the "Why can't THEY see what they are saying/doing is wrong/illusion/batty as hell/not seeing the overall picture" moments. However, something that may help is the "Great Wallyworld High Level" practice. Go into a really big store. Get into your qi state before entering. Think of nothing. Everyone you come up to put your awareness half way between you and them while gazing at them. Say to yourself, "This is me only at a different level of awareness" SEE that this is so. This practice can help us to interact in the world. A quick story. I was doing this practice not long ago and was going down a particularly narrow isle and met an elderly lady who appeared to me to be in her 90's. Can't remember the exact words but I said something like excuse me, this isle sure is narrow. She looked at me and said "Do you want to know what I think about it?" I said sure. She then broke into singing "Give me 40 acres and I'll turn this rig around." WOW! Something I'll be sure to remember. The moral of the story is that people sometimes are not what our preconceived notions of them believe them to be. Everyone has the divine spark.

I dont think Science can explain heat generated from Qi Meditation
Ya Mu replied to shaq786's topic in General Discussion
Some of this can be explained by science but I think not yet the totality. I do personally think science will eventually be able to explain the totality. Heat is good and with Stillness-Movement one usually gets so they can have this at a mere shifting of awareness of dan tian no matter if they are sitting, standing, etc. Good point. The qi generation really is not dependent on the legs being crossed and works while standing as well. However, do sit on edge of chair instead of all the way back so as to not suppress movement. -------------------------------------------------- chidragon, In the field of qigong, reading less and practicing more will lead to less confusion. I do believe the source of your confusion is your refusal to see qi as anything but what the current communists say it is and your refusal to actually study & practice qigong but insisting that reading books and applying your understanding of western science to the topic is correct. Everything concerning qigong is not about breath or muscle. Qi is not breath, qi is not muscle contraction. In the case of this thread topic, the heat is induced by the qi itself, not by muscle contraction. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In general, Stillness-Movement works on a level where the totality cannot be explained by conventional science. A lot is happening on the sub-atomic level. A Stillness-Movement practicing friend who is a physicist tells me he believes string theory will eventually explain many of the phenomena that happens within the practice. The type of "time oriented" happenings within the system, in terms of there being time bypassed or periods of no time, support this. -
Will those TTBers that asked me to reserve them a position please email me and let me know if you still are planning on attending. I need to know for sure by this weekend as I am opening up reserved positions that have not been filled as of September 1. We do still have a few positions available.

Stillness Movement Neigong and Michael Lomax's 'Light Warrior's Guide' Book
Ya Mu replied to mjjbecker's topic in General Discussion
The lying down position is OK, but it should be utilized as complementary to the sitting as it does not take the place of sitting/standing. I think what you are missing is the fact that this is not a posture related system. One should be comfortable when sitting. Use large pillows/cushions, start cross-legged but extend the legs when needed, allow the body to move - not be rigid in posture. It does not inhibit our ability but enhances it due to eliminating interference and distractions. -
What kind of movement happens in Stillness Movement NeiGong exactly? Confused!
Ya Mu replied to shaq786's topic in General Discussion
The Stillness-Movement system is complete and extremely efficient the way it is with millions of hours history of use. Adding or changing anything can give conflicts due to the particular vibrations utilized. If you want to try Stillness-Movement then you should commit to trying it for 100 days. Yes, always better to attend workshop and get the full system, but many do progress significantly from practicing from the book. Gift of Tao is, in a way, reverse engineered Stillness-Movement, and will raise energy body vibration. I think you will find the practice immensely helpful; it feels great after shifting during a session. I was out doing the movements yesterday and by the time I had completed GOT 3 my horses had traveled quite a distance to come to where they were feeling the energy; they were initially no where near me and on the other side of my property. -
I don't teach Hsing I. I never finished my study as my teacher passed on after only 3 years of study. I studied with Y.W. Chang, a senior student of Chen Pan Ling who was very famous for his martial abilities and for mastering over 75 different MA forms. What I teach is Qigong, Neigong, and Medical Qigong. My comments were based on my own learning of San Ti / Hsing I and from practicing qigong for a very long time, not as a Hsing I teacher. I practice for physical body exercise but am not a serious practitioner of MA as my interests and expertise are in neigong and medical qigong.

Yeah, travel can certainly be expensive. I need to re-count but I think there are still 3 positions available for the November 3rd,4th and optional 5th workshop at Hilton Head Island. If you wish to attend go ahead and register now as it will be full. -

I do think musicians, at least the ones who are less technical and more spontaneous, are more attuned to these things. What I meant from field instead of location was the fact that there is a location but a field has to be developed. In our case, with Stillness-Movement, this field is of a particular vibration. When you are holding your hands away from Dan Tian it is different than holding hands on Dan Tian. Note of course that when we do the Sequential method in Gift of Tao we are holding hands away and extending the energy field out. It is a different effect, expansion versus building. Of course both do both but I am speaking in terms of efficiency. Have you the Stillness-Movement system listed in the book? Do Stillness-Movement that way. Keep returning hands to Dan Tian. In Gift of Tao initially put awareness on Dan Tian, then awareness expands from Dan Tian to include the energy pattern itself. Kinda like a central core with patterns extending around and through the core. Then just "be" with the energy pattern as you are moving. This is what induces the shifting. -

Ya Mu replied to shaq786's topic in General Discussion
Chidragon. Nope - not at all. That is not what Stillness-Movement neigong is. Harmonious Experience. Yes, No, Maybe. Depending on who they are on a soul level, some people can tune into this system by reading my book and practicing as I list it in the book. It is not that what you are describing, IF IF IF it came from those particular vibrations, would be bad - not at all. The true full system requires energetic awakening, tuning, balancing AND passing on of energy based information by a teacher capable of manipulating particular vibrations - energetics from particular vibratory levels. Initially best to keep hands on dan tian for that energetic feedback loop. Yes, at some point the qi may wish to do something else, but until Dan Tian is actually a field instead of just a location, the feedback loop is a significant aspect. And even then, it is very useful to keep the feedback loop going. My suggestion is, if you are practicing from the book, if the hands wish to do something let them but immediately return to dan tian. -
Tips? Purchase wood and chicken wire. Build a chicken pen. Get chickens. When they start laying, start your San Ti practice. Practice for one year. After the year move onwards to metal, water, wood, fire, earth spending a minimum of several months each. Chen Pan Ling's senior student Y.W. Chang taught 70/30 weight distribution. 30 degrees with back foot. Different systems of Hsing I teach it differently. And why the chickens, you ask? You are not doing San Ti correctly unless you can hold eggs under arms without breaking them (and without dropping them). Trust me, you gonna need that chicken pen unless you have done this sort of thing before. San Ti is martial. From San Ti position one can move very quickly a great distance with offensive defense. It can be devastating. All phase choices -listed above- (and linking) come from San Ti and then there are advanced animal forms. Moment arms, strike force vectors, and blocking angles are optimized. In line ghost boxing. As martial San Ti is great. As strictly meditative energetics? meh.. I don't think that much of it in terms of energetic efficiency. Personally I would much rather be doing neigong movements. But I do occasionally practice the Hsing I for exercise. Good stuff!

Ad Chris says, best to not be concerned about the movements and just "let". These are not "random" movements. Movements are usually either particular vibration energy patterns or a need for the body/energy body to do a particular thing such as in opening a channel, removing a blockage, balancing a center, etc. Initially we begin all sitting cross-legged (or seiza, lotus, half-lotus). But since this is neigong and not torture, if the legs need to move do let them. The hands provide a feedback loop to Dan Tian and one usually does maintain this. However, an example of when not to is if the qi tells a person to extend the hand and let it vibrate; chances are if this happens there is a wrist (gate) problem and the qi is attempting to work through the problem. -
