Stillness Movement Neigong and Michael Lomax's 'Light Warrior's Guide' Book
Ya Mu replied to mjjbecker's topic in General Discussion
I think you will probably find that the Stillness-Movement is like "coming home". 1) Most people feel the qi the first day of the workshop. No need to manipulate the qi inside you as it is an automatic natural process. In general, qi sensitivity ranges from 0 to 100. People are always different. I have met very few people who said they could not feel qi at all. What I have found is that in most cases of low sensitivity it improves with the practice and that qi sensitivity is not necessary to get benefit from the practice, although it may initially help a person mentally in sticking with a practice. 2) The medical part comes after one's own cultivation. Some of the methods are shown in the applications day of the workshop but it is with the time&effort practice that these things come into their own. 3) There are many variables in self-healing. Stillness-Movement practice is at least as a good as any other system for the purpose of self-healing. However, NO qigong is, by itself, a "majic bullet". I am a believer in holistic (whole person) healing. Always involves many levels including nutrition. And some things just are. Yes, I have seen many people in clinic with chronic fatigue. Always many different reasons for it and I wouldn't say any qigong system alone is single approach for getting better although most do say it helps and many say it helps tremendously. 4) You should practice as much as you feel you can do. A combination of the movements and the internal is always good. Lets see what you can do after the workshop and go from there. In the meantime is there any way you can start with the Gift of Tao movements form the DVD? Start learning them 3 at a time, then adding the next 3. 5) Yes we do have a walking practice. Sitting involves sitting comfortably with legs crossed, full or half lotus OK if you already do it but not necessary for practice gain. This is not a posture session as we are dynamic and not static. -
Chinese Taoist Medicine & Stillness-Movement Medical Qigong
Ya Mu replied to Ya Mu's topic in Group Studies
Yes there are. However, it is an automatic process and to be "looking" for these signs gets in the way of the process for one is then adding mind/brain activity. Best to just practice. You will know when it does. Perhaps it has and you are just questioning it? This is OK as it is our nature to question things. But still best to just go with it. The practice is always getting better as long as one practices regularly. -

The first initially taught shielding layer is the same; it does double duty of shielding & cloaking. Gets better with practice. Varies from person to person, but you should have this ability now. -

This is an important fact and why the Taoist Medicine we do has such high efficacy. Balance out the neuro-energetic system and everything else follows. 1) Your intuition is spot on! ALL the orbits occur naturally with the Stillness-Movement practice; there is no need to force them - at all. 2) It is better to practice whenever you can. So if 30 minutes is all you have do that 30 minutes. However, there IS a reason to practice longer. Initially, somewhere around the 40-60 minute time period is when we reach a "flushing" level. If a person doesn't practice long enough to reach this level they are missing out on the total benefit. 3) Yes, it does happen when we raise our vibration levels. Although inititally this may seem like an amazing benefit, especially to young people, it will get out of hand without doing something about it. One just doesn't want people in the grocery store coming up to them and bothering them all the time; it can become overwhelming. We choose our "battles". We allow ourselves to shine when we do healings. We allow ourselves to shine with our true loves. This is why the system teaches cloaking. I encourage you to practice it!!! Remember, to be a good and moral person is one of the things required to progress in this neigong. All this said, simply allow yourself to be the normal awesome Being of Light that you are and everything will be fine. Cloaking is a powerful tool that allows us to choose when to shine. -
Send me an email with your location and I will send out a mailing to those attending and ask. You have just slightly longer drive than I do. The energetics there on the ocean at Hilton Head are really good and should make the drive worth it. The Springfield workshop at Dr Shealy's place is always an awesome event as his Chapel is one of the most beautiful buildings I have ever had the opportunity to teach in.

Good point! Initially, one cannot stay within the qi except at a slow pace. The exercise in GOT II called "Walking in the Qi" illustrates this very well and really does get a person to understand what I mean by "staying within the qi". It applies to ALL walks of life; this fact does become abundantly clear to anyone willing to do the exercise. However, after doing the practices for some time, and this time period depends on several factors, but probably a matter of years for most, we can do them faster and still stay within the qi and still get the benefit. Sometimes I do them at a crawl and sometimes I do them about twice as fast as in the video. Depends on the energetics of the moment in the moment.

The thread where this was discussed is in the Taoist section. I just briefly looked so as to give you a link but my search gongfu on this forum is not too good. NO ONE who doesn't practice qigong for themselves can have a valid opinion about what it actually is as the experience itself will differ from any type of academia or pre-conceived notions. And this especially applies to Stillness-Movement as what you see is only a surface reflection of what it actually is and any particular thing written about it just can't even come close to describing the actual practice; this includes everything I have written, everything Master Wang has written, and everything Master Hu has written. I can answer questions about Stillness-Movement and always am glad to do so. And indeed have posted here quite a bit. But really the only way to know more about it is to learn and practice it.

+++ Good post. Many of the posters in this thread should read this twice and the sentence below 100 times... "wuwei is impossible to grasp on the level of the left brain language-dependent cognition"

My horse prefers Fuller's Porter... chenpalyer, You have gotten some good advice. On the first DVD there are the full runthroughs on the right side of the menu and on the left side are the movements broken down into groups of 3. This is the best approach; get the first 3 down (one at a time if you like) then go to the next 3 but always do the first 3 as well, then the next 3 but do all the previous ones as well, etc. Some of these moves look mind-boggling (as well as impossible to understand) to someone who just watches the dvds without practicing. But once practiced they become natural feeling and as one recognizes the energetics they feel like "coming home". Then one realizes that they are really simple to do but represent complex energy patterns. That 3rd move (Got I) on the dvd is simply switching Heaven and Earth hands each time; one hand goes to Heaven while the other goes to Earth then opposite hand goes to Heaven and Earth. Gift of the Tao III now has a new move that will be introduced in Finland!

The Stillness-Movement and chidragons misinformed viewpoint has already been discussed in the Taoist section. He just posted that so someone would say what it is and he could "correct" them. I like your explanation. Some very famous and some not so famous horses do Stillness-Movement and some perhaps would agree with you; others would drink you under the table... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zr134jenuo and http://www.irishcentral.com/sport/Horse-legend-Zenyatta-drinks-Guinness---SEE-VIDEO-106675698.html

We will definitely go over the shielding methods in this class. Thanks for your example! And we have another registrant from England as of this weekend. Anyone else who wishes to attend this workshop please go ahead and get your registration in. -
How many Taoists are out there in the TTB....?
Ya Mu replied to ChiDragon's topic in Daoist Discussion
I would bet that if someone stuck you with a pin you would talk about a pin (I know I would), as in "Get that pin out of me!" NOT "Oh that is a construct so it doesn't bother me cause I am a Taoist." So would you then be a Taoist or not? HA HA The answer is a question: Is a "Taoist" practical or lost in (idea of what is meant by something read in a book) never-never land? My remark was leaning more to the "This thread makes as much sense as" line of thought. Guess I shouldn't think out loud, but I do see that question every time I see this thread. -

Bizarrely - or maybe not - every time I read the title of this thread I see "How many Taoists can you fit on the head of a pin?" -

Suggest you re-read what I wrote in the book. The method I talk about is dual cultivation, and it is NOT about bringing energy back to dan tian. I understand why you may remember it that way as the basic system I talk about does. Also, what snowmonki says about applying common sense makes a lot of (haha)common sense to me. Basically I agree with what has been written about practicality. Something like 2 days in between for 20 years old, 3 for thirty, 4 for forty, etc. But retention methods are not the same thing as what happens when two neigong practitioners, male and female, do the dual cultivation method listed in the book. It is an entirely different thing and I know of nothing, except perhaps some of the more powerful shamanic ceremonies, that comes close to the spontaneous energy event that happens when this method is perfected by those who embrace the Stillness-Movement system. 1) maybe, no 2 situations are the same. Ours basically works by flooding the body with high vibration energy which helps remove sick qi, opens the channels, and strengthens and transmutes the energy body. So we usually don't get sick as often. No particular hand positions needed. 2) yes, absolutely. The system is self-governing. 3)no worries 4)yoga is fine. I have seen many people get carried away and injure themselves. As long as that good old thing mentioned above is applied (common sense), then it is OK. Our movements are very good at keeping the body loose, stretched, and the gates open. Suggest you do all the Gift of the Tao movements. Kindle software(free) is available for PC, mac, and android. Just download from amazon. -

How long do you spend on the Sequential move? I can't imagine wanting to spend the time doing just doing one static move instead of simply sinking a bit with the Sequential and extending the time, as so much more is going on energetically. Sometimes I take about an hour with it. The sinking does takes a bit of time to get used to. That said, once a person has spent a bit of time with Stillness-Movement it is very difficult not to be tuned into the Stillness-Movement energetics no matter what exercise one does. GOT 3 has some moving static moves (move then static - move then static - move then static) -

Good! -
Once a person catches on they see that each move builds on the previous moves and that there is a lot of repetitive movement that is just perceived as differently complex but is really simple. Initially it is not what the mind expects and it is sometimes perceived as very difficult. As these are duplicates of higher vibration energy patterns as seen on other vibrational levels, by letting go of the mind involvement, we discover that these are natural energy patterns that our body/energy body LIKES to do. Another video player that will allow a person to slow down the speed is VLC Media Player. Many times I have found this software useful.

Just recently got it up on the website, about 10 confirmed, 3 more reserved, and I haven't had a chance to actually do a mailing announcing it yet; will do that this week - weekend. Will probably cut it off at 20.

Sorry, I almost missed this. Yes, we are several moves into Gift of the Tao III at the workshops. Really good movements!
-
Apparently the OP is looking for an add-on technique instead of an integrated system. I only know an integrated system which can't have the Lightness technique separated from. I have never heard of an add-on technique and don't think it exists, therefore my post was not useful to what he is looking for. Basically I just explained that our Lightness technique is within the advanced running qigong of our system as well as in one of the Gift of Tao II moves and that since Lightness is not the main goal of that GOT move I wouldn't suggest it be tried separately as a Lightness (only) technique.

I will remind you of the getting serious comment when Brion has you laughing in continuous waves. ----------- I was asked if this class has made yet. Both Brion and I already have our tickets. Join us for neigong in Billnas if you wish; this workshop will be highly energetic! -
I think it a good idea, but not mandatory, to become familiar with the movements then do the corrections at the workshop. But as you can see, there is no wrong way here. Suggest learning GOT I and going over GOT II but not spending as much time with GOT II until you feel familiar with GOT I. Of course I am going to also do some moves from GOT III Your position was reserved some time ago. (how's that for non-linearity) But do please follow it up when you can edit to add: Beach Qigong is really cool! Thanks for pointing out what I put in bold of your quote.

These Lightness techniques do exist but I don't know of any that can be separated from the system they are within.
