What are good movies to watch in (Zen, Buddhism or Tao)?
Ya Mu replied to DalTheJigsaw123's topic in General Discussion
The Golden Compass is a movie that tells quite a bit of truth in a fictional style. It certainly will make you think and is entertaining as well. -
double post somehow

Probably pretty good stuff. My teacher studied with the abbot at the temple of the White Cloud and spoke highly of this training. I know I had 2 of the most amazing non-linear experiences at the Temple of the White Cloud, definitely awesome place. The Stillness-Movement that I teach encompasses the inner teachings from the Temple of the White Cloud. That said, this turns me off; DR. WU: "Qi Gong is breath."

Beer qigong was fun at the microbrewery. It was great having you and sunshine at the workshop. I don't have really large groups of students show up at my workshops but the ones that do are some of the nicest and most talented folks around. Thank you both for attending. Hey sunshine, those falls had enormous qi, eh? -
Full-lotus only hurts when I get out of the position
Ya Mu replied to nomad's topic in General Discussion
Three potential solutions come to mind: 1) Don't ever get out of the position 2) Don't get in the position 3) Hurt You may actually find you don't really need to do that. Try just crossed leg if full lotus makes you hurt. -
What is a good breakfast for a TaoBum?

Seefood. See food, bless it, then eat it. -
Why is it that women do not need to recirculate sexual energies? Maybe, but need and benefit are two different things. Can't comment on the deer asked about but as far as sexual techniques, the one I teach is every bit as beneficial to female as the male. BIG circulation. WOW benefit. Does require partner, though. And, does require BOTH to be qigong practitioners.

On a purely physical level, none of the above.

To which are you referring to as miracles? The elimination of the tight-fitting-cap feeling from the man? The improvement of voice in the man who couldn't talk beyond a whisper? The real increase in the hearing ability of the woman? The elimination of numbness in the woman's arm? The improvement in the arthritic joints? The student who had only attended two workshops who applied these techniques to bring about an immediate change of an injured person who could not see beyond a few feet to the ability to see 1500 meters while increasing her peripheral vision at least 40 degrees? One way of looking at it would be that it was a miracle that all these people came together to be where they needed to be at a given time. Mostly I can truly say that these type of results are everyday occurences with the medical qigong. Pretty awesome, huh? -
You just move the fingers around where each set of fingers has the 1/4 inch spacing between index to index, thumb to thumb, middle finger to middle finger. The fingers and are not parallel to the chest when this is done. If you look down at them you will see a triangle created with the index and thumbs.
-
No, the flat of the palm is facing downward, parallel to the floor, not inward. And the hands are about 6 inches from chest. The moving of the fingers is only done initially simply to show a doubting person that something is really happening. The actual "exercise" is static with a 1/4 inch gap between the thumb/index/middle fingers and the thumb/index/middle fingers on the other hand. Then circulate qi left to right through chest back down arm to hand as in a continuous loop. As in left had to right hand to R arm to chest to left arm to L hand (but thing of it as a loop instead of the separate parts). Too powerful to do (or to recommend to someone else) for over 3 minutes at a time.

You would have to evaluate whether this would be good for your friend, but one of the prescriptive medical qigong exercises that I use for heart conditions is this one: Hands palm out (palm side towards floor) parallel to floor at chest level. Move fingers so there is a quarter inch space between index/middle/thumb fingers of left hand and right hand. If you slightly move your fingers up and down you will feel that "magnetic like two magnets" feeling. Set intent on qi moving from L hand through R hand and around through chest (loop). Only do for 3 minutes at a time 3 or 4 times a day. I have had much success with high doses of Co Q10 (difficult to assimilate), hawthorne berry, cayenne. Can't say that these would be applicable for your friend.

++++++++ It is truly a fallacy to try and separate these. These teachings are SO intertwined that to separate one would lose part of the whole. I am amazed at the SO Taoist or SO Buddhist, SO Christian, SO Zorastorian, etc. attitude so prevalent today. It is the sum of the parts that lead to the whole.

I want to stress the importance of learning and practicing qigong while you are attending school, if indeed that is where you end up. There are many good acupuncture/TCM schools in USA. I have a friend attending the one in Chicago at present and he likes it a lot. To quote the chief doctor at the Guan An Men hospital in Beijing, when I asked him do his doctors on staff practice qigong, "Our acupuncture doctors who practice qigong have far better patient results than our doctors who don't."

Beginning QiGong - Best books for exercises?
Ya Mu replied to DaoChild's topic in General Discussion
But the reverse side of this is that I haven't gotten a cold or flu since I started practicing Stillness-Movement internal exercise a long time ago. Can't run anymore. MOST people who practice Stillness-Movement internal exercise miss less sick days and feel better. So it really depends on the quality of the exercise. -
Beginning QiGong - Best books for exercises?
Ya Mu replied to DaoChild's topic in General Discussion
Ken's book is good because he is one of the best scholars around concerning qigong. So to learn about qigong this is a great starting place. Totally agree with the focusing on healthy lifestyle. Totally disagree with your next statement about the more external a form is the better for health. There are many external and internal forms. There are also many external as well as internal forms that don't do much at all. Of course, waving your arms around can be good circulatory exercise that also helps loosen joints. Taiji is a vicious and brutal martial art. Moving the body is good, but minutes of time spent I don't know that rebounding exercise isn't a better exercise for health purposes. I think rebounding exercise 10 minutes twice a day will help do the physical relaxation & peace of mind (neurochemical release). But the internal power for Baqua? Probably more Baqua practice. But for general health a good internal qigong exercise combined with a good movement exercise can definitely assist the body, mind and spirit. I would look to a good DVD instead of a book if I wanted to learn a movement form. Better still would be to go to a class on the form you choose to learn then take the DVD home to practice. Jianye Jian has about 300 DVD's on movements, some of his are simple to learn. Garripoli's wuji form is good. My Gift of the Tao form is highly energetic, I know folks that like wild goose form. I guess if I really wanted to learn another movement form it probably would be Fu Wei Zhong's. He has a book and DVD but I would take the classes. 2nd choice would be Garripoli's wuji form (he has DVD). -
Bone healing with ultrasound and other things
Ya Mu replied to froggie's topic in General Discussion
I do this technique in clinic and have for many years and also teach this type of medical qigong to healers. Works VERY well. You can't give an average or ultimate because each trauma is different. I think it is safe to say that in most cases the bones will heal at least twice as fast, but it will vary due to the type of fracture. Important to note that most of the pain from the break can be eliminated in a short time. Of course usually there are involved tendons and ligaments as well. No two injuries are the same. -
Correct. it was one of the Taoist sacred mountains as well as Buddhist sacred mountain. It was the Jin Ding or Golden Summit Monastery from which Emei Qigong comes from. My teacher Master Wang Juemin's teacher was grand-master Zhou Quan Chuan, who spent 13 years there with 10th generation grand-master Yong Nian. It is my understanding that Master Wang also spent quite a bit of time there and was friends with Master Nian. Master Wang had invited me to go with him on a sacred journey to that area the year before he ascended. Our plans didn't work out due to my clinic work/ teaching schedule so I never went there.

Find a teacher and study with them. In the meantime, until you find your teacher, pray.

Sure, but the movie was more fun than some of the other aspects of everything.

I read that post. Pretty good. But... The multi-level shielding AND raising energy body vibrational frequency are keys. But for someone to play around before they raise the energy body vibrational frequency through time & effort energy practice is asking for trouble. A person must do cultivation for their shields to be anything but a joke (on them). A simple meditation will not accomplish this and for someone to think that all they have to do is a simple meditation is pure nonsense - disembodied liars? Hello.
