Max I think you can do better. But you may have to venture out of Brookyn?
-
She seems like she belongs on the Crowley thread...
-
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... *has flashback*
-
Apparently she is available. Think I have a shot?!
-
Find it yourself! *coughs and sips tea*
-
WTF?! I do not! *secretly wishes Sean was a chic*
-
If Max thinks so must be true. *Prepares for 2012 dimensional shift*

Glad to have your highly unbiased insight into the matter Yael. It's really about who is cutest to you girls anyway, isn't it?

I had a feeling the whole "Now Prasara is here we can all stop worshipping and doing our silly practices" comment was a joke. It really sounded like that to me in which case that would change the entire "vibe" of a conversation. More like you were kicking it with a friend. But he basically came at you like every comment you said was meant as a challenge or something. Scott needs to take his own advice in the Flowfit DVD when he says, "Have fun and explore" or somethng.LOL.

Interesting. I don't know about the success rate of the methods of his you mention They sound a little extreme. But it sounds, from the little you mentioned, that he had developed his own system to release one from conditioning. I think there are subtle nuances to good or evil it's by no means a black and white thing. Hopefully through cultivation we can gradually notice those subtle nuances and not get lost in our illusions.

Ok, my impression after re reading that. Sean was sort of trying to move the discussion to a higher level. Scott was saying we already are at that 'higher level'. Then there was finger pointing. Ok, I am more than willing to drop the subject entirely now unless someone has something enlightening to say about
-
Actually there is nothing "bad" about it these types of situations are fertile opportunities for self discovery I think. I just didn't want to leave it the way it was since so many of us here are fans of Scott. Nice to honestly know what the real issue was. If it was just ego fine no judgment.

Freeform, You said Magik as Aleister taught it was a form of 'enlightenment practice' before we get sidetracked I was interested in you saying a bit more on this if possible. I will remain free of judging I would just be interested in what practices he specifically taught for enlightenment. Did these practices produce any enlightened people?
-
Ummm, ok, maybe we are using different definitions for the word "enlightnment"? *Tries hard not to judge*
-
Really? Crowley was talking about enlightenment also? I never got into any of his stuff. I think because I knew people into Golden Dawn or whatever when I was a teenager and it didn't seem like what they were talking about was similar to the zen practices I was getting into. Though I remeber one dude was telling me the Satanism he was studying was exactly the same as Buddhism. I sort of nodded and went interesting and didn't go any farther But maybe that was just a projection of my younger mind. I guess I just don't find those practices interesting yet. Perhaps you could write an explanation of your understadning of it in a seperate thread and how it has helped your life?
-
Agreed. Also, I don't know if Crowley talked about it, seemed he was more into magic than enlightenment practices(I could be wrong) But the whole Taoist and Zen thing of connecting with the universe directly addresses these higher questions. So, from your example, I would say most likely the guy who has to steal to feed his family isn't really connected for him to find himself in that kind of situation to begin with. Also, using Sean's example in the post above on ethics on a boat, the people who find themselves on the boat in that kind of horrible situation maybe also are not connected? Ken Cohen says by doing meditation and qigong you more and more find yourself in the right place at the right time. No need to artifically discern what is right or wrong when your truly in harmony with the Tao. (IMO)
-
I know exactly what you are talking about. Adya's presentation of emptiness meditaton is really unparallelled. But Ken is the man and emptiness meditation is only one(though very important) practice he teaches. Wheras the sitting and forgetting is really the cornerstone of all Adya's teaching.

Of course many mystics would break it down to a few words. To get the essence so to speak. I remember reading somewhere " Do good. Do not do evil. Manifest good for others. This is the teaching of all Buddhas". Or something along those lines.
-
I am going to agree with Max. Intellectually deciding what you think you may or may not do in this situation is mostly not realistic. But, by doing spiritual or meditative practices and ideally having an enlightenment experience, you can be sure you will end up doing the right thing. IMO and all that..

(IMO) 1. Pirates of the Caribbean. Even though I went on it numerous times nothing quite prepares you for the quick dip at the beginning. I know the hardcore purists will say this means nothing when you compare it to Space Mountain but with Space Mountain you have a good idea of what's coming. That dip at the beginning of "Pirates" is a total suprise! Yo Ho! Yo Ho! A Pirates Life For me! 2. Haunted Mansion. You can't even put into words the pscycological ramifications of taking a small child and revealing to him the existence of ghosts! Sure after the age of 14 or so you realize it is all done by special effects but does it really make it any less real to have ghosts flying about your head and the frightened screams of young children? No it does not! 3. Small World. You can argue again about Space Mountain deserving a higher place but no other ride offers a complete system of philisophical and spiritual insight. Every continent is condensed down into a magical journey of exploration where self acceptance and love for other peoples cultures unfolds into the simple realization that it is indeed " A small world". 4. Space Mountain. A glimpse into the future perhaps? Or just a dashing good time!? 5. Tiki Birds. Those talking birds are a trip! Also the orange smoothies next door are the fucking bomb! You can argue with 2-5 but I don't see any room for argument about #1.

Disneyland is also fun for my Disney loving California friends.

Do we have life vest? If we have lifevests throw a couple people over and just drag them. If there are no life vests throw over whoevers responsibilty it was to make sure we had life vests. If it was my(The Captains) responsibilty, realize you have done a bad job and wish them good luck before jumping into the great blue. If no one else is able to navigate at all, throw over the oldest people, regardless of sex. I love old people but your not giving me much to work with here! LOL.

Just listen to your body. You can do something every day but 1000 squats a day is probably out of the question. Some basic reccomendations like.. Mon 30 minute walk, deep breathing. Tue 100 squats, 50 pushups Wed Wall Walking Thu 500 squats, 100 pushups Fri Jump Rope 30 min Sat 100 squats, 50 pushups, Bridge 3 min Sun 30 min walk, deep breathing You can change as you see fit. Supposedly Karl Gotch did 500 squats every day but that is a higher level of fitness. He was a professional athlete. Though working up to those mega numbers may or may not appeal to you anyway. Good luck.

From Yahoo news.. A giant tortoise thought to be one of the world's oldest creatures has died at Calcutta Zoo. Local lore said Addwaita the Aldabra tortoise was around 250-years-old. She had been at the zoo since 1875. Addwaita, whose Bengali name means "the one and only", was one of four tortoises brought to India by British sailors from the Seychelles. She was a gift for Lord Robert Clive of the East India Company and apparently spent 125 years living in large garden before moving to the zoo. "According to records in the zoo, the age of the giant tortoise, Addwaita, who died on Wednesday, would be 250 years approximately," said zoo director Subir Chowdhury. The zoo wants to carbon date her shell to determine exactly how old she was. The world's oldest documented living animal is Harriet, a 176-year-old Galapagos tortoise who lives at the Australia Zoo north of Brisbane. She was taken from the island of Isla Santa Cruz by Charles Darwin in the 19th century
