Why is there so much disrespect in the Taoist tradition?
Cameron replied to Cameron's topic in General Discussion
I think she was talking to me I had some silly behavior going on last year..well..the last 3 months of last year. But that is all over and am trying to be a uniter not a divider like Barack Obama. -
Used car salesman weenie. LOL. That's great. I am glad we got to have this enlightened conversation. I'll take the used car salesman weenie over a student of a path of apparently tremendous arrogance. btw thanks for sharing so much as to what you actually practice. The out of the blue, blatant dissing of a practice and teacher many people here have benifitted from checking out along with your just sharing so much with us about your practice and your teacher who rejects most applicants is really making the world a better place I am sure. Though if he really was Bruce Lee's teacher as you say I suppose that is pretty cool

Sounds good. I am glad we were able to clear up that I have no interest in studying with you(or your teacher) and you also have no interest in teaching me(and your teacher rejects almost all applicants).

Hey I have turned over a new leaf this year and am trying to be a uniter not a divider. -
You are completely using those statements out of context. I am pretty sure he was referring to not teaching people who he saw would use whatever power/palm to hurt others. I don't think he said the knowledge or skill was inhernetly "evil". Max does something called Tibetan Palm. He demonstrated it on Kan the first time I met him. So again, it's just out of context and your rushing to judgment before you get the whole reality. Mantra can say more if he wants if you want to discuss it with him further.

I would study again and again and again and again with Max over you or your teacher from your dumping on here. I don't think anything you have said about Max is even slighly based in truth, and is a mere unbalanced ego projection of yours. I don't think I have ever heard Max say palm energy you speak of is evil, so that's just another projection. Also, what you are saying about bouncing as nothing special I think is different than what people are developing with their Kunlun practice(It's not forced in any way but spontaneous movements..the bouncing and hand movements happen naturally). What would interest me is a diologue between your teacher and Max or other high level Masters. But we don't get that. We get students of the Taoist tradition being disrespectful of other schools. See my thread about this subject for an attempt at taking an honest look at this issue if your interested. Cameron

Also, maybe it is a scholorly issue and am sure everyone will have a different take. But do you think the blending that took place between Taoism and Buddhism in China took place for a good reason? Perhaps Buddhism had alot to offer to improve on what Taoists were doing and Tao stuff had alot to offer what the Buddhists were doing. It seems the teachers I have been most attracted to in Tao like Max or Ken are lineage Taoists and also very Buddhist(Max even being a recongized "Tulku") I don't know. Just seems the Taoist training by itself tends to leave huge gaps in ones development. But the Taoist training can help things along and prevent Buddhist meditation from becoming stagnant. And I guess the Chinese also emphasized Conficism which appears to be cultivating ones behavior and interaction in society as a mode of awakening. I think Ken says in China people blend all 3 and consider them complementary. -
Has anyone seen the maker of Pan's other movie I think called Cronos? I was watching the bonus feature where he said Cronos is about Alchemy. Sounds good and another one to rent!

Ok. Barmitzvas. lol. Well, Ken is Jewish by birth so he would be the first to ask that I guess -
Actually this brings up an interesting issue that I was just talking to a friend about, why there exists so much disrespect in the Tao tradition(atleast here in the States). But I will start another thread about it because I think it is a seperate issue.

Well, it seems you have alot of experience and pretty much have your mind made up about Max. I think there is something to the simplicity of just going deeply with 2 practices rather than hundreds of different techniques. I am not going to say one way is better then another. After training for 30 years you must have seen alot. Well, we have gotten alot of positive feedback for kunlun I guess someone like Starjumper with a clearly anti-Kunlun(or Max) position adds to the conversations here. You used some pretty strong words to express yourself..calling Max a liar? I would have to really, really, really get to know someone before using that sort of strong language over a public forum.
-
Starjumper tell us what you really think From what I understand Max was trained from the time he was like 6 by a Wudang Taoist and also trained with a Mao Shan Taoist for something like 30 years. I won't be moving to Seattle any time soon and am happy with what I am presently studying, thanks.

I don't know if it is called holding the ball. Maybe other schools call it that. I have not heard Max call it holding the ball so I won't. But you take a position, hold it, things start to move spontaneously(arms and legs, or just legs sometimes). Red Phoenix is even simpler.

From what I understand the highest practice in Zen, Shikantaza, basically is just awareness of whatever is present. Kunlun seems to speed up the process but doing some stillness practice is good to. Probably the 20 min stillness period after Kunlun is a good start. Except I am usually rotating around in clockwise circles the whole time so I don't think it can be technically called stillness. I will probably add standing meditation in with Level 1 at some point this year. For me standing meditation is standing zen and probably a great complement to Kunlun and Red Phoenix(and stillness practice, zazen etc)

I here where you are coming from Buddy. I think I respect Buddy's position .If you dont' have direct experience of something why should you blindly believe in it? The only "problem" that exist is people like Max, Wang Liping, John Chang etc don't really have any desire to prove their abilities to anyone. And someone like Buddy who is reasonably skeptical isn't going to go to China or whatever to get the direct evidence. From what I understand of Max's position, he isn't into displaying his powers(which I only have a vague understanding of at this point) He does throw Kan around using his energy and at the LA workshop he basically controlled one of his female students body from across the room. From what I remember, Sean Denty had said that Jiang Sifu was willing to let people come to China and he would demonstrate his power. Someone like Buddy, who is already high level IMA, would be an ideal person to check it out. But again, Buddy probably isn't spending thousands of dollars to go to China and test Jiang Sifu and Jiang Sifu probably won't be going to Boston to impress Buddy anytime soon either I haven't experienced Max throwing me from across the room but at this point I have experienced enough where I trust Max and if he says or does something I am inclined to believe. But again, he doesn't say those things work well until your are advanced at Kunlun to begin with(something about damaging a person's system if they aren't open or resisiting or something). Cam

They have farms with horsies outside Phoenix. We should get Yoda and his family to sell their house and move out and we can all live on a big farm with animals and cultivate together. I'll be focused mostly on Aikido but at night Lezlie, Sean and Cam can go to clubs and bring hotties back to the farm. Yoda and fam will have their own wing so Yoda's kids homeschooling won't be interrupted by Sean's party lifestlye. Who's in?!

Not sure. From all accounts of people that met him he was a pretty remarkable human being. Aikido embodies alot of what I am talking about. For example, if you take Bush or Chaney. These are people who I don't think would do very well in Aikido. Like if they got on the mat(no, I wouldn't beat them up) my guess is they would be very tense, stiff, unable to execute or learn basic technique. When I watched old clips of Hitler. To me he was also someone who would do very poorly in Aikido. His stiff posture, aggressive movements almost embody the opposite philosophy of Aikido. I want to hurt you, I want to smash you and kill you. Very un-aiki. To me, you want leaders of countires who would be good at Aikido. They don't need to practice of course but just being more in harmony with that. In many ways, I see our present leadership, as well as the leadership in many other countries, as being the opposite of that. People who embody violence in positions of great power. However, when I watch Senator Obama I think he is someone who could be good at Aikido. Someone who works problems out in a relaxed, balanced way before rushing to smash and kill people to accomplish his goals(which we know is pointless and counter productive). The flip side is it is probably that violence and insencerity that got many of these people in power in the first place, so it has worked to a point. Probably the leadership of a country is in large part a reflecton of the population of the country in a way. A sad state of affairs, which hopefully will be changing soon.

I don't know. For me alot of it is learning to forgive myself and others for any so called past mistakes. It's interesting both Max and Michael Winn told me I am too hard on myself. It seems like people who are awakened or gotten anywhere in their practice have learned to forgive and have compassion for themselves and others. It's been a big challenge for me. Adyashanti points to the possibilty that no real problem exists except in your mind. Sean added an interesting perspective that Taoists say when you start to cultivate your anscestors who might have had issues may start to bother you. Like, I was practicing Kunlun yesterday and all these negative judgments and feelings started coming up and I asked myself the question "Where is this bullshit coming from?" It's hard to even see sometimes where these things come from. What aspect of consciousness or where inside you negativity is being housed. An advaita teacher I met named Nirmala even talked about feeling like he was being attacked when he started his spiritual path. Like there is some unseen, dark resistence to your own awakening. I just look at it as BS that needs to be "practiced through" now. Probably having an attitude that it's all just part of the scenery and not being attached to it is the way to go. Whether you experience bliss or inner torment, nothing to really hold on to and make stories out of. practice, practice, practice.

Obama is going to be the next president of the United States imo.

Hehe, ok. Fair enough Buddy. Maybe you are just living in the wrong city to see those sorts of things
-
If that happens to me I drop my arms to the sides and let them rest for a couple minutes with my legs still bouncing. Usually after a few minutes I go back to the kunlun posture.

What masters? David Shen? I admit seeing his teachers light things on fire with their qi is pretty cool but you have to spend 10k and go to China for a ticket. Max? I don't understand it fully but Max uses his energy to throw or control his students movements but he even says in the video on kunlunbliss.com that if your not open to it it doesn't work. Kan is a big strong guy and am sure he can handle himself without using kunlun energy but watching him fly around from Max basically touching him is pretty convincing.
