  1. New diet research book

Basically the study shows that chinese people who traditionally eat lots of vegies and grains with a little meat and fish don't get the diseases we do in the west. In the big cities, however, where KFC and other western fast food establishments have sprung up and as they have made their diet more like ours western disease has followed. Joel Fuhrman says that he doesn't know whether being vegetarian is really healthier than eating meat and fish as long as you eat less than 12 ounces ( I think that's the number) a week. After that disease starts to kick in.
  2. Women

It might be someones nature to pretend he's a sensitive guy in order to get women. However, it would not be considered right action. Because it is your nature to kill or steal does not make it ok. The idea is to work on yourself and change your nature to conform to the tao. The agression - your true nature - will eventually come out and the relationship will terminate.
  3. Women

neimad' date='May 13 2006, 10:42 PM' post='14449 There is nothing wrong with nice guy syndrome. I have it and haven't done too badly. In my opinion it is not in the interest of self cultivation to play games. Once you start a game if you stop playing- revert to who you really are - you may have had sex but not much else. The best relationships are where both parties maintain their own individuality. You can do things for others and still keep who you are. Before you even approach a woman instinclively she knows whether she likes you or not. It doesn't matter what you say - you don't need the coolest pick up line. The only way you can mess up is if your overly obnoxious. So you can approach, be awkward, trip etc and if she likes you - you are cute - if not your a jerk. If on the other hand you have the coolest line and she doesn't like you - you're out. So you can approach anyone anywhere - never hesitate - see someone you like on the street - no response - it wasn't meant to be. The rejection is nothing personal - just different energies not connecting. Attracting women or men has to do with your state of mind. When you are in love everyone wants a piece of the action. When you're in a bad place no one wants to go near you. So cultivate, cultivate, cultivate. Bitterness may be felt by others and act as a deterrent.
  4. Women

I think he's got the wrong woman.
  5. deodorant

For those who aren't quite sure as to whether they have strong odor, a good guide is if your urine has a strong odor it's a good chance you do to when you perspire. I think the more alkaline and less acid your diet the sweeter you are.
  6. Should I train BJJ or Aikido?

I abstain. Don't give away your power. Ask yourself which one you should study before you go to sleep and ask to have the answer when you wake up. If you truly can't decide do both and at some point you will know which one is for you. Maybe both are.
  7. deodorant

Why thank you. mYTHIS mAKER thinks I smell like a rose. Think about it - if you eat asparagus your urine will have a strong odor. Garlic will exit through your mouth and feet. If your digestion is poor or your stomach toxic the odor will come out through your breath and skin. Spices will also have an effect on how you smell. You don't necessariy have to be 100% raw to not smell. Everyone has their own particuliar smell. One of the ways people are attracted to each other. I wonder what the indians did about perspiration in the desert. Maybe they used Yucca or Yuuch In olden days they used perfume to cover odor as the bathing situation wasn't the greatest. It's only modern times where the rule is bathing two times a day and may be mainly an american habit. Very puritan. In the olden days, I was once told or read somewhere, women used their own perfume to attrach the opposite sex. The perfume came from their vagina.
  8. deodorant

'neimad' date='May 9 2006, 07:30 PM' post='14247'] Sorry if I wasn't clear. Hydrogenerated oils which are oils that have been heated are trans fatty acids (hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils) are directly related to studies that link trans fatty acid (hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oil) consumption from processed foods to the development of diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease. I am saying that if you take a virgin cold pressed oil and heat it it becomes hydrogenerated whether you are cooking meat or veggies. http://www.recoverymedicine.com/hydrogenated_oils.htm
  9. deodorant

neimad' date='May 9 2006, 06:36 PM' post='14240' Some people cook with expensive unhydrogenated oils. When the oil is heated it becomes hydrogenated.
  10. taiji instructor that was beaten up?

'thaddeus' date='May 8 2006, 10:34 AM' post='14059' There are no inverted poses ( shoulder stand, head stand) in tai chi because it would be an extreme position. Tai chi is based on the tao in which there are no extremes. Taoists are interested in groundiing - getting into their bodies. The focus is on the tan tien and rooting.
  11. taiji instructor that was beaten up?

'Cameron' date='May 8 2006, 10:06 AM' post='14056' I think it would be very interesting or boring and educational for you guys to find a tai chi class and try to follow along. Ok so you like more external forms of bodywork. Tai chi does develop patience. Zazen and tai chi require focus. I was under the impression you practiced zazen
  12. taiji instructor that was beaten up?

'thaddeus' date='May 8 2006, 09:48 AM' post='14051' Anyone can pop in and out of any yoga class and follow along at their level. You can come one week and not show up for another three weeks. Yoga is made up of seperate static postures which are more or less the same and easy to follow. You can skip one if you don't feel like doing it or it's too difficult. Flow yoga and vinyassa are the exception but this would not be for beginners. In Tai Chi you have to learn a continuous form which can take about twenty minutes to a half hour for a long form - ten minutes or so for a short form - to complete. So you have to commit to show up just to get from here to there - to learn the form. Then you have to practice at home to get the form in your body. The coordination is more difficult than yoga. You learn to use your body as it was designed to be used - in motion. 'Lozen' date='May 8 2006, 10:01 AM' post='14055' I am curious as to what constitutes boring. Have you ever tried doing tai chi. Is it boring to do or boring to watch? Do you find qi gong boring? Is zazen boring? And if not why not?
  13. deodorant

Did you read the warnings re this product. The no toothpaste guy doesn't use deodorant either. What you eat is what you smell like. Tiny Tim almost said that. You may have noticed smokers have their own particuliar odor Same for different ethnic groups. People who eat fast food smell different. To chinese people americans who eat dairy do not smell pleasant. Anyway it's important to perspire - do not block the process
  14. What do you do?

Retired architect. I recommend the following book: The Richest Man in Babylon http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=nb_ss_...11&Go.y=9&Go=Go At one point I was not happy with my career and was looking to see what else I would be good at - enjoy doing. I took an aptitude test test given by the Johnson Oconnor Research Foundation http://www.jocrf.org/resources/index.html The results showed I would be good at architecture I'm glad I took the tests as I learned a lot about myself. It was the particuliar situation that was bothering me. I changed the situation and I was back on track. For example, the tests give personality information such as whether you would be happier working in a group or alone. So if you were skilled in writing but couldn't stand to work alone they might suggest writing for television with a team of writers. It has been my observation that people who do what they love attract money. There are exceptions of course.

  16. Bob Cooley's Meridian Stretching

"freeform' date='May 4 2006, 05:15 AM' post='13868'] After I do the stretches I have a definate feeling of well being. The DVD was only about $19 US. You need the video to really get a handle on the stretches.
  17. Raw Food links/books?

Yoda' date='May 4 2006, 07:09 AM' post='13876'] Dr Fuhrman is my doctor. I've been a vegetarian for 38 years - just looked it up - wow I hadn't taken supplements for many years. A lot of foods are not what they used to be - depleated soil etc. I did develop a b12 deffiency so I started taking B12 once or twice a week. I also take Dr Fuhrmans one a day vitamins and his DHA made from seaweeds. The amount of protean recommended by most charts and doctors is way too much. This causes disease.I eat nuts for concentrated protean - 3-4 ounces per day. All/ most all fruits and veggies have some protean. We have been trained to relate specific foods to specific vitamins i.e an orange is a big vitamin c tablet.
  18. Raw Food links/books?

Pietro' date='May 4 2006, 06:46 AM' post='13871'] I no longer use any oil as it may be virgin but it's been processed Oil is too concentrated. Why would I use oil on my teeth? Avocados, olives. nuts contain oil. I am a vegetarian - pretty much vegan - I will eat some cheese if I travel or maybe an egg- maybe once a year.
  19. Raw Food links/books?

freeform' date='May 4 2006, 05:57 AM' post='13869'] As I stated we make blended salads which is a good and delicious way to eat greens. I also blend seeds - soaked in water a few hours - sunflower seed and pumpkin seeds. This starts the sprouting process. Also cashews, almonds or walnuts. Blend them with oranges for a great sauce cream to put on top of fruit. We don't use the seeds or skins of fruit. We also blanch the almonds as the skin contains tanic acid I used to make bannana ice cream. Skin a ripe bannana - place in baggie in freezer - remove and blend. Don't add anything to it - creamy tastes like ice cream. That's about all we use the blender for.
  20. Raw Food links/books?

Beginning of plaque buildup? I have a Green Power juicer which I hardly use. I did juice almost every day for over 15 years. I also have a Vita Mix juicer - it's expensive - which I use every day. It's about 12 years old and going strong. We burnt out many a regular blender before settling on the Vita Mix. We make blended salads - gaspachio- in the morning. Romain, dandalion, celery, green pepper, cucumber, lime. After it's blended we add on top ground seaweed, tomatoes and watercress. I opted for blending and dropped juices as I wanted the whole food. Sometimes after eating brown rice in a restaurant I get a coating on my teeth. I haven't used toothpaste in over 20 years. If my breath smells it means I'm sick or I have a bad stomach. I brush with water. It is, however, very important to floss which I learned the hard way. Once every 24 hours is enough to break the plaque barrier. To protect my teeth from the acid of oranges, lemons, grapefruits I simply rinse my mouth. I eat 90% raw. Whenever I tried 100% i lost too much weight. So the 10% is steamed, some baking and chinese food
  21. Try this!

My results were: Root: open (56%) Sacral: open (31%) Navel: over-active (75%) Heart: open (56%) Throat: open (69%) Third Eye:open (69%) Crown: open (56%) It would be interesting to review your answers with someone close to you. We don't always perceive ourselves as others see us.
  22. cool quote on benefits of stretching

Thanks to Yoda I investigated Bob Cooleys Meridian stretching. Have been doing it for about a month. I bought the book and DVD. Well let me tell you this is the greatest system I have ever tried. In less than one week I was able to do the hero pose supta virasans where my shoulders are about one inch off the floor. Before I started I could hardly get my elbows to touch the floor. BTW this is not one of the stretches at this level. I do the stretches and then try some poses to see if anything happened. My palms now touch the floor. I do have to say that I made my greatest gain in the first week. At some point I will try the next level of stretches. When I finish the routine I feel like I'm really in my body and have a sense of well being. Before investigating Bob Cooley I tried yin yoga. I found a class and attended one session to get the basics. Twelve positions five minutes each. Nice but for now I'm sticking with Bob.
