  1. First I would decide what practices are for me. Next I would search for a place that gave those practice and go on a retreat for a month or a number of months etc. There are all sorts of places - silent retreats being one of them. There are places where they put food under your door once a day and you meditate. Some you follow a schedule, others you're on your own. There is no need to give everything up or give everything away. Think of it as a vacation from the world. One thing you will learn is no matter how hard you try you cannot escape the world. Where ever you go there you are. You will be faced with the same issues you tried to escape from. So I prefer my cultivation in the city in crowds. For some people it can be difficult to get any thing done when they have plenty of time so you might find yourself in your cabin and not able to do your practices. Many people accomplish much more when they have a tight schedule. Possibly when we receive resistance from others (parents) we are forcing issues. In some way, subtly or pushing it in others faces, we project that what we are doing is better than what they are doing. Just do your thing without pushing it on others - hopefully you will change for the better and they will see the change and gain respect for your path.

  3. joining the us military

Everything has it's price. You might wind up dead or maimed. Not my cup of tea
  4. So How does One Get Started?

I wouldn't mess around with reverse breathing without a teacher, especially if you are just beginning. Allow your breath to flow naturally without focusing on breathing. If you pay attention to your breath you will notice when you extend, your breath moves out and when you contract, your breath moves in. So you wanna be a Taoist. Be natural don't force anything. Seek proper guidance .
  5. Why Taoism is different

In the latest issue if T'AI CHI magazine there is a reprint ( June 1989) from an interview with Ni Hua Ching In the article he says: "Religion usually promotes intoxication, an emotional religious intoxication that causes people to block out rational development and fail to know the true power of the life of the world. But in the teachings of Taoism, it's totally different. It promotes spiritual sobriety, not intoxication."
  6. Celibate practice

What does your sifu have to say
  7. Wuji and Zero

It occurred to me that there is a correlation between wuji and zero. Wuji is before taiji. Before the beginning, before the formation of this universe. This state of nothing contains everything. In the same way the zero - nothing - contains everything 0 - 10 - 100 - 1000 - 10000 etc. Therefore in relation to the 64 hexagrams of the IChing, which describe our known world, we might refer to wu wei as zero. Any thoughts.
  8. Wuji and Zero

    Yep my error
  9. The Taoist Mystic

Unfortunately packaging is part of life. I take no offence. Your packaging - you target your market. I don't judge you nor do I wish to control you. Was trying to be helpful.
  10. The Taoist Mystic

No dilemma for me. They don't rattle my cage. It's really your problem. I skip you posts. My loss. I would hazard a guess that whatever you are a sifu of has some form, some structure which you adhere to and teach your students. In applications there are appropriate times to abandon strict form for essence. Likewise in language communication it is appropriate to abandon form to express an idea or make a point. Thus we have poetry and personal styles of expression. Not to give a shit because you feel you are above it all and can't be bothered is in another ballpark. So my loss.

  12. The Taoist Mystic

Sifu my two cents I don't read long run on posts as it is too much of an eye strain. If I wish others to understand what I have to say I present the material as clearly and concisely as I can. I want to reach everyone including neanderthals Otherwise why bother to post. It's a question of communication. Do you read books that don't have paragraphs. 13. Honest Food Discussion

Oils - extra extra virgin or whatever are too concentrated. Better to eat the whole food - nuts, seeds, coconuts for fat avocados are great.
  14. Distance Healing

Can you heal yourself and/ or others up close. A good place to start
  15. Is KunLun Bogus?

The more present one is the better to achieve the alchemical goal of being fully alive, compassionate, and connected to the source.
  16. Is KunLun Bogus?

Well said. It is my belief- experience that the more I am in my body and the more i am grounded the more I am able to be present in the present. The more I am in my body the more expansive i become and the more I connect to everything. I was give this form to experience life not to escape it.

  22. I - Ching

Yes change happens whether we like it or not. When preparing ones self before approaching the I Ching there is a shift in consciousness. This shift allows one to be more open - receptive to what is offered. We are aligning ourselves with the Tao. It is a choice of approaching the master with a full cup or with an empty one. The master keeps pouring even though the students cup is running over. He tells the student he will be ready to receive the teaching when his cup is empty. When you clean your house there is an energy shift. Even if you only clean the drawers and put them in order the room also changes it's energy. It's all about awareness and aligning yourself with higher consciousness.

  25. There are too many factors involved to judge longevity and tai chi and qi gong practice. i.e. heredity, diet. living conditions, bad habits. Many masters have claimed they were sickly before they started practice. One thing I have observed is that one will feel better and be in better condition than some one the same age who doesn't play tai chi or qi gong. A non player may live longer than a player, however they may not be able to get around or be confined to a bed or wheel chair. In other words you will be able to enjoy life more if you play than if you don't.
