That there is bad energy, (contentiousness) and negative attacks by ignoramuses by a sheer compulsion to the killing-energy of obstructionism expressing itself in such people in what amounts to a supposedly unconscious bald-faced warfare, the wisdom in the Art of War which is included in the Taoist canon for a good reason, can be developed and utilized in order to eliminate sources of petty obstructionism (which includes among other devices, the effective use of withdrawal). That obstructionism as over against the expression of the Way exists, and isn't a reflection of the teachings or the potential to pass on the teachings by skillful means, is indicative of the fact that the obstructionism of the obstructed is the very reason for the teachings in the first place. In times of obstruction, the wise go into hiding (this is also mirrored in the individual in that when one is obstructed by karma, one's inherent wisdom is hidden). The limited understanding and obstructionism of certain bums hovering over this thread has been expressed (most reasonably) as to portray the way of the wise as a matter of omnipotence. Inferring, of course, that those whose effect is less than omnipotent, are obviously less than the source of wisdom itself. Others bent on a style of a more plodding reason, take to projecting a mechanical relationship with inconceivability. There is another style, hopefully extinct, of "occupation" of threads by those whose penchant for recreational philosophy cannot meet the demands of higher consciousness of the inconceivable, pathetic as that "technique" is… None of these literary approaches to obstructionism of enlightening teaching will do, for long. These same people hardly consider their own minds the source of enlightenment itself. As such, they are completely unaware that their own understanding is ignorance itself. To be unaware of one's own ignorance is the working definition of ignorance. I don't go around calling what I do enlightened activity. It is called enlightening activity for a reason. Anyone whose virtue is sufficient to recognize the expression of enlightened mind and realize that one's own mind is inherently thus, knows that it is conditioning which is obscuring the activity of the buddha-mind in oneself and others. Since these people see this ignorance by virtue of cultivated self-refinement eventually leading to sudden realization, they are not ignorant— even though their own understanding is still obstructed. Ignorance is being ignorant of one's ignorance. How could such a one ever recognize enlightening activity in the wise? What is possible to do (or not) in response to bad energy and negative attacks depends on the time. The Art of War states that victory depends on the enemy. So eventual elimination of obstructionism on the part of certain people whose understanding is less than developed sufficiently to recognize skillful means on this forum as the expression of wisdom by enlightening beings in their midst, is up to the ability of enlightening beings to adapt to these ignorant ones. Therefore, selfless adaption on the part of enlightening beings depends on the ignorant themselves. If it were a matter of omnipotence, it would be instantaneous (and also the state of utter responsibility for one's (non)existence on the part of those insisting on omnipotence on the part of others). Sudden enlightenment is like this. Since all people have this buddha-mind, and all people are already enlightened, it is a matter of these deluded people cultivating themselves by gradual refinement to sufficient levels to free themselves of obstructionism in order to see the expression of enlightening activity already in their midst. Still, some bums have had to be counseled (brow-beaten?) by their peers or banned before accomplishing the relative elimination (however temporary) of their compulsion to obstructionism of enlightening activity. The sage's knowledge of the sameness of all people is the reason why omnipotence is unreal. Omnipotence is like Hitler, and the results are hell-on-earth when omnipotence is being practiced. Obstructionists consider themselves logical and reasonable, not obstructed. When they are presented with their own reasonable reflection on the part of the enlightened, they find this objectionable. Why? Because they only see the reflection, they don't see themselves. Why? They don't see themselves obstructed to start with due to karmic and self-conscious evolution of the illusory self. As I had written above in the closing lines of post #2, enlightening being is a mirror for those whose compulsion for obstructionism and self-delusion (however subtle) is as yet active and killing the potential for the expression of enlightened mind in themselves and others. Perhaps these reasonable ones seek to take on the responsibility of being a mirror for enlightening beings? Only selflessness has the knowledge of objectivity, which is beyond the ken of the deluded. Perhaps they need to be reminded that they must first see essence on their own, and then seek a teacher. The reasonable ones have yet to see their own mind, their own enlightened mirror, this mirror that has never needed polishing~ It only needs to be seen.❤ ed note: add "(or not)" in paragraph 10, and "in themselves and others" at the end of paragraph 16

Having already reached that state, where there has never been a buddha, I can say that ceasing to exist, experiencing nonoriginated selfless aware nature of the absolute, IS death …as dead as anyone has ever been, at least. This is return. Having returned to the source, this is as far as anyone can go. This is the extreme of the limit of the limitless. People can go no further. That is why I say it (death) does not exist and that (the living of this) "life" is an illusion. That there is no separation between this illusionary existence and that real nonexistence is no mean feat. It is knowledge of the first water. Having come back from death, death of the self, death of the mind that has been thinking up the illusions of existence and having realized that which has never begun (one's own mind stripped of the false identity,) I am already serving humanity. It doesn't matter one iota. Forgetting self is the gradual process of self refinement. What is refined? The human mentality, the source of the illusion of self. When self-refinement is finished, there is nothing left of the wandering mind and one returns to the source to witness the Great Wonder.

We really cannot talk about this much further, as it is beyond your ability to deal with in effective terms, chegg. Humanity is bound to the rounds of birth and death. Salvation is freedom from birth and death by virtue of seeing one's nature. I don't care about humanity inasmuch as I care about reality and those whose virtue enables them to see it. I'll trust you and humanity to deal with humanity's future. Enlightening being has no future. Immediate presence is all there has ever been in terms of reality. One does not stop working with karma in the aftermath of sudden enlightenment. There is a real mystery and being nice is not a means for entry into the inconceivable. The audacity of sudden realization is the knowledge of no-self. Those who see their nature see that a soul is nonexistent. All these ideas relative to self are far from the reality of nonduality seen by enlightening beings. Karma and Suchness are the same. Did I say I do not experience anything? Please do not speak for humanity on my account. Karma is accrued by virtue of ignorant action. Karma is obviated on account of seeing reality as is. Being nice is nice, little more. That's good for you, it seems, for now. We all have out tasks to see through to completion. Do yours well. When nothing is outside or inside oneself and all is the same without a hairsbreadth of difference in terms of self and other, there is no fullness or emptiness to speak of. Autonomy is an eye; stillness and movement is circumstances. The world is not a thing outside of oneself to fix. It's perfect. People need to see their nature and develop the Dharma-eye of Tathagatas. Inconceivability is not the realm of convention. Enlightening beings are not within the realm of convention; neither are they outside the conventional in terms of function. They don't keep precepts and they don't break them either. If not for the false, there would be no way to find the true. Karma is the means of effective evolution, whether or not one goes along with creation or follows the tao in reverse is up to oneself alone. Dealing with negativity in terms of its relative is a dualistic practice suited for those whose understanding is commensurate with that kind of practice. Those who then are able to work with essence directly, there are only circumstances to adapt to without regard to outcomes. Reality is a perennial result beyond changes wherein inconceivability matches relativity. Enlightening beings have learned to see this and keep to the inconceivable inherent within the relative. As I said earlier, Suchness and karmic evolution are the same. One is experienced by ordinary people and the other is experienced by those who have learned to follow the function of the tao in reverse. That is all I can say about it. As such, it does not matter whether one experiences positive or negative as the two extremes are what they are. The polarity is relative, and enlightening being is not keyed to relative judgements. Adapting to conditions is effectively impersonal and one is only geared for the struggle in order to let the spirit flow freely, regardless of outcomes.

All things are created and must go through their cycles of birth and death. I say, bring it on~ In fact, negative situations are somewhat easier to deal with because we are naturally on guard in these situations. Agreeable situations represent more difficult environments to maintain an equanimous and disciplined continuity of observation. I am in a position to guide those who are ready to be utterly independent. Those who need help are not my responsibility. Some people are suited to the horizontal. For others, only the vertical will suffice. Austere and unequivocally unattached is the home of nothing-whatsoever. This is my home, chegg …I know you can appreciate that. There is no buddha past present or future who can touch me here. That is not a matter of separateness. Reality is a single mass of fire. This is the real human with no status that has always been aglow. It is not a person and has no location. After more than a few years of rigorous discipline of observation of your runaway mental chatter and actual, real, in depth study of the TTC, the buddhist classics and a few alchemical classics to familiarize yourself with the clear description of applications of the basic terms that must be digested in order to arrive at the multifarious usages these words have in the profound sciences of essence and life, you may someday have a proficiency relating the terms to your actual experiences. I never once even conceived of the idea of enlightenment. I never knew it was a thing to want. I just followed the mystery as it presented itself to me. It has never been easy to deal with difficult situations, no different than anybody else, only I have no illusions about the unknown outcomes. One then accepts one's function and steps forward with hands open; there is nothing really to know about potential. It is just a term to let people realize that there is no reason to have a speculative, anticipatory relationship with reality. Reality is a potential itself so powerfully complete and whole that just abiding in the present without wishing otherwise imbues people with inconceivable virtue. Over a long period of time, one enters the mystery of oneself by just this inherent virtue of the present, perpetually unchanging in the midst of karmic evolution.❤

What is necessary is to see reality as it is without bias or inclination. When one sees reality, this is objective awareness. The OP essentially states that when there is negativity in a situation in terms of malicious intent, what can one do about the negative energy one experiences in these situations. suninmyeyes provided Hongzhi's quote in her original post because she seems to have recognized in Hongzhi's statement that the wonderful spiritual result of subtle operation's spiritual basis is itself not apart from the reality of the situation itself. She is not like me though, and introduces Hongzhi's result of subtle spiritual operation with the disclaimer that there may be other ways to deal with antagonism… Others, like Jeff, for example, seem to imagine some sort of omnipotent insularity is actually possible (not to mention assumed to be the spiritual power and sole province of the truly illuminated). Spiritual power comes naturally with the territory of virtuous harmony with reality within the context of many, many, many situations that have been passed through as transformations of created cycles of yin and yang. Virtuous harmony is not a matter of walking around in gossamer robes on Maui and smiling at everybody smiling. It is the result of seeing reality as is and adapting selflessly to conditions, stealing potential when it reaches ripeness and then withdrawing void of intellectualism. Negative energy is. Having gone along with karmic evolution selflessly over and over agin through the power of enlightening being and then withdrawing at the right time is accomplished by not employing self-reflective mental energy in the process of going through changes. No self, no change. It is verrrry simple… but not easy for beginners. One must go through a long process of self-refinement to begin to see that potential is one and the same as the created. It is then necessary to be able to turn the light around. That potential and karma are the same is due to the fact that the light is one— ignoramuses go along with creation and enlightening beings go in reverse. What happens in all cases when one is seeing inherent potential no different than temporal evolution, the result of perpetually manifesting complete reality is apparent. This is Suchness, reality as is. There is no need to change or be changed when one sees reality or even unreality as is. Seeing is a direct result of knowing that there is nothing to know about anything in terms of self-interest. When one sees, knowledge is instantaneous. It's just intuitive awareness. It's not special knowledge. It is just direct, unequivocal, real. Whether events are potentially injurious or not isn't a matter of others' intent as much as one's awareness of the potential inherent in the entire event, the immediate situation, and the smaller cycles evolving in concert. To the degree that others understand understanding needs no explanation. Where the thick meets the thin is in knowing who understands not-understanding. Those who have entered the mystery of complete reality are those whose consciousness is on par with not-understanding, that is, causeless inconceivability— and these people are able to accept that they themselves are the mystery itself. It is not only that there is nothing to know, it is that the not-knowing is itself the pivot of enlightening awareness. What one doesn't know is habitual discriminatory judgements and opinions, and feelings relative to the false identity of the circumstantial personality. Knowing that there are those intending harm, however subtle, isn't dependent on the personality— it is seen by the totality of the being that is going to die. The people I can get along with on this forum get it or are either fully aware of the wonder of it all or are overwhelmed by some inner predilection I call the will to enlightenment. Those that have no affinity for understanding not-understanding are obvious by their calculations, postures or a kind of personality expressing something called an oscillating psychology. That is a wonderful Kashmiri term I learned a few months ago. It was in a document based on a nondualist teaching from about 1800 years ago. Those that get it are just open to the mystery. Those that don't see are like those whose concrete observations don't tally with inconceivability. Whether or not people have an affinity with the mysteries and have gained entry or not isn't my problem. All the arguments contrary to selfless knowledge by the deluded aren't going to change that fact. That I do not go along with such people isn't my problem either— it's my responsibility. That is a good provisional teaching, Chi. But for those whose expression is enlightening activity in the world, there is no set disposition, as the meeting of potential and creation is dependent on the situation itself to have its proper result. As for Jeff's imaginative projection pertaining to his "profound" understanding of omnipotence able to ignore the world of deluded activity; there is simply no such thing. He does not know it, and he does not know of any beings outside of graphic novels who are so divorced from reality as his understanding is. The world is itself Mind. There is nothing outside of oneself. If there is one shred of reality one does not consider himself, this is the ignorant human mentality.

You are still insisting that Clarity is a state which precludes response, any response. It is simply not the case. Response is spontaneous and inconceivable, dependent on the situation itself, not someone in particular. Enlightening being is not a matter of invulnerability. Was Jesus so invulnerable? One must actually go through the situation without reservation and only then, manifestly prove one's ultimate transcendence. But to arrive at this pre-emminence, one must be totally vulnerable to do that— and the situation itself is the context for the manifestation of the creative cycle in which transcendent potential is inherent, skillfully held in terms of impersonal awareness, then released as powerful, inconceivable response. You must understand that this power is not one's own. That is your assumption and it is erroneous to continue such assumptions in terms of enlightening activity in response to conditions. This is the true meaning of selfless action. Don't ever think that when you get to be like me, it will be so different than how it is being like you right now. As your virtue reaches critical masses, natural evolutions through karmic magnitude will manifest to match your potential in terms of the situation and in terms of the absolute. Subtle operation is just a matter of knowing when to use 4 ounces to move a thousand pounds. And to do that, you must be able to wait for the time to arrive. The timing is celestial. Only then is response up to oneself alone. You should never hold out for such an easy go of it when enlightening function is realized, cured and you can then fly like a dragon. To be a partner of creation and not subject to it requires inconceivable audacity. Evolution in the aftermath of sudden realization and the subsequent development of enlightening qualities is not for the omnipotent. If you are to become a buddha, you will see for yourself that the demiurge will be the equivalent of a bell-hop when you pass through the empyrean veil, and all things become equal. ed note: one too many "that"s in 3rd paragraph

Potential isn't a comparative device, per se (in my strict usage in terms of alchemical language)~ inasmuch as there isn't a differential aspect modulating. Where you two are working with it is very cool, though. I would say, in terms of referencing potential to the Absolute, one arrives within the incipience of ever-readiness on the cusp of going into action. This is the peak of potential. If it ever moved, it would extend and come pealing off and crashing down. In terms of the Absolute, this is it. This is where is has always been. But the Absolute has never moved, so it is like a wave that has never, will never over-arch. In terms of Creation, this could be a wave that has never been other than the perfect tube, circling an endless global ocean— forever perpetuating itself, pealing both right and left (I suppose)!! That is a wonderful notion though, in terms of moving that reference-point around as an analytical tool.❤ ed note: one too many "come"s in 3rd paragraph

Oui, but not just the student! This is how enlightening being works. One calls this practice, yes, but one is always arriving in terms of the result in perpetuity. Presence is a single point of awareness from which the quality of one's relationship with evolution radiates from within potential itself, the manifestation of which is the perpetual present result. Not speculating with the result is keeping potential intact. The perpetual result is potential. Seeing the result is seeing reality. This is why there is nothing to do but accept phenomenal conditions as they are without picking and choosing. Since the result is all we have to work with, the real flavor of complete reality, in this sense, comes to the fore. Since reality is itself the incipiently manifest result in perpetuity, anything people do in terms of self-reflective patterns of thought and action upsets the balance and harmony of the real, the natural pivot of awareness, the incipience of evolution, Suchness as is. Then seeing is not real and illusion comes to the fore. Seeing reality and seeing illusion is the same seeing, but the difference is inconceivable. It is a matter of balanced insight void of bias and inclination. The slightest influence creates ripples on the mirror of awareness. No wonder seeing is so hard to accomplish. But it is also like riding a bicycle in terms of realization of principle. I'm so glad you said "result". I have only touched on this thing result once or twice before. Wonderful!!

The teaching's voice is total silence amid the the ringing wind chimes…" —Hongzhi The teaching is within the subtle knowledge of real potential, concurrent within conditions. The teaching is itself one's own seeing reality as the real inherent within phenomenal evolution. The true form has no form. Therefore, insight is the illumination of true form by Mind alone. This is seeing there is no form. The Dharma Eye opens and closes autonomously, as if fanning the celestial breath; the aperture of the mysterious female. Potential is the voice of total silence teaching amid spontaneous evolution's ringing in mutual arising. Potential is as everything you can see; only it is not seen. Just this is it when you don't think good or bad, before or after.

I don't recall referring to anything as magic. Inconceivable perhaps? Magic, per se, is an art, or at least a craft. Entry into the inconceivable is a natural process of self-refinement leading to the attainment of the Virtue of the Receptive. Enlightening being is a state of not initiating anything. Wu wei is the property of non-action. This is spiritual. Why? Because enlightening being is nonpsychologically aware. Non-action accomplishes without doing by virtue of non-resistance. It is the response-body of buddhas. This is beyond the influence of karma. Why? Because one does not do anything outside of selfless response in meeting the requirements of situations to influence creation beyond the transformation-body of the deluded who do not know they are buddhas. If the other isn't empty you know it, and so do they inasmuch as they don't know their nature. It is one's nature that is empty of self. People who don't have an affinity with the Way leading to subtle operation of enlightening being cannot conceive of people who do, people who could, or, much less, people who would act beyond conformity within convention without selfish motivation. Polluted mentalities cannot conceive of others' actions whose motivations are different than their own. Clearly, an empty boat that rams into a full boat due to conditions does not garner the wrath of the full boat. If a full boat rams into an empty boat, it is not simply due to conditions as there are people in the full boat: i.e., there is responsibility. This is a fact and a condition requiring discipline, activated on the part of the responsible (not the culpable). That is, the culpable are to be taught by the intent of the responsible— not that the culpable are capable of learning from the responsible. This is like a full boat. Full boats can very well become empty boats, but enlightening being does not "transform" another. Tools cut, the sage is not a tool. Conditions themselves are the absolute in terms of potential, which only the sage sees. One only acts spontaneously in terms of the potential inherent in the situation itself to go along with conditions in order to introduce guidance as transformation of conditions themselves transform fullness into emptiness. One who is already empty, stays empty. This is knowing and subsequently, transcending changes as the full experience birth and death without gathering potential. The point is, enlightening beings count on the occurrence of attacks and negative energy. Objectivity is the domain of selfless awareness. Adapting to conditions selflessly is enlightening being, not a strategy to be invulnerable to circumstances. Furthermore, enlightening beings use circumstances spontaneously to freshen the stagnant and secretly influence evolution according to circumstances. This is the time of stealing potential when it is ripe and sealing it away in secrecy, void of intellect— at just the moment the natural yin cycle of killing energy at the culmination of yang. Negative energy and attacks are phenomenal killing yin energies of the normal evolutionary mechanism of created cycles of yin and yang. One finds the true as a result of seeing the false within the matrix of karmic evolution. It is simply possible to awaken to your own mystery and you enter it, just like that. Stosh, please do not try to make too much sense in terms of this topic. You cannot argue the inconceivable. It has to have become you once, sometime after you are born, but sometime before you die, in order to even do the work to solidify the attainment. There is nothing to understand, reason, or mince. Your post trailed into a philosophical eddy. Enlightening beings don't do philosophy. You have to have been there yourself, to activate the knowledge of the real human within not-knowing in the aftermath of the sudden. Though subtle operation is not limited to the aftermath of one's singular selfless wonder, still, matching creation with the situation's inherent spiritual potential is not a matter of "energies flux[ing] through the system so that things happen". You want to talk about the phenomena of phenomena. I don't do that. Potential does not enter into the created even as it is the essence of phenomena itself, and neither does the Way. This is how immortalists operate in reverse— it is because they follow the Way in actuality (not in terms of philosophical interpretation). The function of the Way is in return. If it is not a function of return, it is not real (and neither is it selfless), because the real isn't created. The created is illusion. This is the false. Spiritual alchemy is gathering the real (potential) from within the false (creation). If it weren't for the false there would be no way to see the real. There is nothing wrong with creation, birth, and death: i.e., the energies flux[ing] through the system so that things happen— enlightening being just doesn't use it. That's not the Way, which is the source of our selfless unborn aware nature. The inversible Chan term "difference within sameness" is not philosophically attributable. It IS the working definition of the buddhist term Suchness and the taoist term Complete Reality. That is immortality here and now, and the gathering of potential is endless as one enters the mystery that has no origination. It is not that one changes energy into potential, yet ordinary people turn potential into energy their entire lifetimes without ever realizing it. I do not talk about process or creation. This is not within the realm of reason. I hope you can now affirm that potential does not have to be or not. Potential neither exists nor is nonexistent.
