Skydog has a valid complaint, I suppose… in his mind. I can never tell if someone is being sincere or not, though. Well, I'm sorry about that. By your wording it does seem that you actually do believe I'm really talking about something. That's heartening! If you would use this opportunity to actually voice a real question you have about what should be obvious about a mystery of the universe (by PM), I'll try to be less mysterious. I won't string you along… Why do you think they are mysteries, hmmmmm? You already know that the way that can be told isn't the way of old~ so how can you also juggle that fact with your desire to grasp the ungraspable with the very source of your confusion (your intellectual function). The accusation that this is something I'm making unnecessarily difficult to understand sounds a bit fishy, skydog. Often, I'm aware that people complain because that's all they know how to do. I suggest a bit of self-reflection in order to arrive at owning your sense of wonder, dear skydog, and be honest enough about it to articulate it. Why do people believe that the mysteries of the universe should be able to be understood? Because they are lazy fuckers. Also it seems there is a possibly unconscious attempt to try to see if I can be fooled somehow. Tathagatas can't be fooled.❤

I suggest that you avoid comparisons, skydog. What you say in a nutshell doesn't really matter in terms of you seeing your nature. As for energy work: As the tao gathers, all these amazing things evolve naturally without any intention. Energy work was devised for people of very advanced age. I'm not here to make friends. If you are not ready for this, just tune it out. I didn't criticize you. The fact that it is beyond your ability to deal with is your own problem, no one else's. If it makes you feel any better, just compare yourself to the homeland of nothing whatsoever. SO STOP COMPLAINING AND GET THE FCUK OFF THIS THREAD❤

Lineages have no say in the fact of reality. Your nature has no need of taoism. It already is of itself without existing. Nature is NONE of these things you parade. No one is criticizing the fact of historical lineages. Why are you being its champion? There is no lineage without realization. Realized illuminates are the only ones comprising the lineages. Is taoism not big on seeing your nature? Seeing your nature is the same as sudden enlightenment. Same as seeing essence; same as seeing your original face. Do you believe the classics were created by the unenlightened? The world-honored classics exist by virtue of seeing your nature. Lineages exist by virtue of seeing your nature. Our true nature is uncreated. You have not seen your nature. Being is a verb, but what is non-being? That is your nature. What do you have invested in lineages of any sort and what is the point of equating the uncreated with the manifest when you yourself have no part in your unmanifest nature to make such assumptions? THE WHOLE POINT OF THE TEACHINGS IS TO ARRIVE AT YOUR NATURE, THEREBY TO JOIN IN THE UNCREATE AS A PARTNER EXISTING FREE AND CLEAR OF THE CREATED. And who, taomeow, is this we you speak of? Your nature is not a person. Only those who have arrived at the basis have the power invested to apply potential to meet creative evolution. You are confusing created nature and your real nature. You are also confusing tradition with your nature. What does it matter that you chop wood and carry water? Nothing is gained by complete perfect enlightenment. Lineages are ok, but they are attributable and depend on the real. The real is your enlightened nature. Until you see your nature, the conceit of lineages is a convention; afterwards it is matter of fact. At any rate, the illuminates of past, present, and future are one. There are no lineages in the Unborn. Lineages are tumors of action, of which you need not trouble yourself defending. Our lineages? Again, until you yourself see your nature this thing of yours is a candle in the wind,

ok… shoot. Something did come up today and I believe it will help introduce the aspect of timing in terms of the firing process of the twin cultivation of sense and essence. Because of my profession in the film/fashion/music circus, even show-girls have to deal with things, sometimes the technicians on set would describe the elements of stuff to me (I listened)! Even the ancients spoke of capacitance. I read a line today, "…mind is a capacitor of the Way; when it is as uncluttered and quiet as can be, then the Way stays there and insight emerges." Guitar amps, big foto-studio flash units and motion-picture cameras have dangerous things inside them called capacitors (they can and do kill people). They store electrical energy (potential) based on increments of time. After they gather potential for a time period, they release the potential in terms of a time cycle too based on cycles of alternating polarized energy. Release is spontaneous as a result of being triggered. So we understand that emptiness beckons fulfillment based on the timing of heaven? If you are empty and still while adapting to situations effectively, this is impersonal selflessness naturally abiding in the tao in reality. So this is the time of the mind being a capacitor of the Way. And the Way gathers there to produce insight. The Way gathering there is karmic energy turned into unrefined potential in terms of using nonpsychological awareness to suspend potential (like a capacitor being there to store electrical potential). When you can see potential, this is the same as the Way gathering there to producing insight. Not speculating on outcomes is not-doing. Having no mind for such things (complaisant speculation) is automatically stealing potential while in the midst of situations. Saying you see potential is just a way to say that you see reality as is without engendering mind-states of good, bad, self, other, etc. Not-thinking from the personalistic perspective is seeing potential. It's not that reality looks any different than delusion. It is the human mentality which uses awareness to produce illusion. When the situation of capacitance is replete (if you are empty and still in terms of your selfless adaption, you just know), this is the time of reversal and withdrawl into secrecy (hexagram 33) to wait out the Yin Convergence (hexagram 23). It's like leaving a party without standing on ceremony. You just go because it's time to and no one can stop you. Again, this is simply adapting to the requirements of the time and has nothing to do with conventional mores or issues of the personality. There are 50 ways to leave your lover, non? This is an apt facsimile of the potential because habit-energy is polarized and (like a magnet) wants to stay stuck in that powerful thing, hmmmm? ANY thought concerning potential is very detrimental to the resolve necessary to sealing the potential away without so much as leaking the tiniest spark of intellectualism. One just completely withdraws oneself from further involvement in the situation's evolution. This is withdrawing the fire without further deliberation inside and out. The alchemical manuals state that here there is nothing outside coming in and nothing inside going out. If you do entertain thoughts at this time you are as good as dead (in the wrong way). This is the time of one's capacitance of fulfillment in terms of potential. One must not let it leak away or the foregoing effort and achievement will have gone to waste in vain. Capacitors are designed to release potential as needed based on the time-factor of the electrical circuit (karmic situation). What kills people is getting between the (+) side of the capacitor and a suitable conductor (—). I'm consulting a technician as I type!! haha!! Doont's doo zis wis your homme!! For now, whatever situation you were in is kaput (for now). It's just how it is for no reason at all. I guess I really didn't say anything helpful about the timing… It is the natural trigger comprised of the time, the situation, and your sensitivity to the gravity of energies inherent in the situation itself. The part that is up to you is waiting for the time whereby circumstances are moot …ultimately, they are literally circumstantial and nothing more. Rather than going along with karmic evolution you have reversed it. This is enlightening activity and no one knows why. Doing this over and over in every situation you enter, you gather the potential grain by grain. This is not calculated manipulative behavior. It's just not-doing views and intentions with a clear mind while adapting in the midst of situations. You don't have to remember anything; it's just now. This is the celestial mechanism of adepts and the subtle operation of the Virtue of the Receptive. Whether you dive into the depths or fly into the heights at this point is up to you. If you refer to the fourth line of the 1st hexagram, you will realize that the cycle is not yet over. I have only described the critical juncture of the timing of reversal at the cusp of the Yin Convergence in the alchemical firing process of immortals who gather potential according to the time and seal it away in total secrecy. This has absolutely nothing to do with remediary meditation or energy work. This is carried out in the public marketplace. Essence and sense, fire and water, yin and yang are one from beginning to end. One uses nonpsychological awareness to gather them together and keep them together oneself. This is the work of alchemy. Being as quiet and uncluttered as can be isn't the work. That's the foundation of the Way staying. Insight emerging is the power to see and accumulate the real by virtue of nonpsychological awareness which secrets its potential incipiently from the karmic matrix of creation enabling you to store it away where it is absorbed naturally by the real immaterial body in the Center which has no location. One doesn't use insight oneself. The power of the Way in residence is the presence of its Virtue of the Receptive which accords naturally. You just adapt impersonally and advance and withdraw the fire in the midst of situations in terms of the celestial timing of events. You just work the room in partnership with creation— not being subject to it. ed note: add "And the Way gathers there to produce insight"; fluff and buff paragraphs 7, 9; add last half of paragraph 17; add last three paragraphs; tweak ed note~ haha❤ -

ooh… does dishes!! Wu Ming Jen could be husband material!! haha!!❤ I forgot who asked me about this, Wu, but that which does not fall into secondary methods is without peer. Let's be peerless about this thread on the subject of dual cultivation, hmmmm? I know~ you pretty much exhausted the subject as far as I'm concerned… Bravo!! Would you be interested in expounding on aspects of the timing or tell-tale characteristics the bums might be able to recognize in terms of the yin convergence/withdrawing the fire in ordinary situations? I've heard myself too much and I'd really appreciate a break. If not, that's ok~ I do appreciate the post you wrote, Wu…❤ -

So there is that special brand of taoist that considers enlightenment a thing it is not and also claims taoism is not about giving birth to immortal enlightening beings. This is like living off your parents even after they're dead and claiming that all their inconceivable effort that now provides for your "day-care" taoist life-style isn't all that big a deal. Consider the peerless ancients who accomplished complete reality and entry into the tao before actually writing the classics. Who never bothers to wonder how they could have actually arrived at the understanding of complete reality to accomplish the task of leaving the secrets of the knowledge of the Causeless behind for those with the audacity and character to follow their footsteps?!! I assure you that not a single one of those people passed off spiritual enlightenment as "not all that big" a deal. Utterly unconscionable is what this kind of person is, wallowing in one's own conceit of ignorance and doing absolutely nothing to requite an inconceivable debt and all the while throwing around terms like yellow sprouts, cultivation and the like. What a comfortable little spot that rat's nest is. And now I can see how this had no place in Madame Random's Taoist Lineage thread.❤ ed note: add that last little line with somebody's new pseudonym

It is said that for both taoists and buddhists, seeing essence is done oneself. After that one needs to seek a teacher to confirm one's understanding and ascertain the depth of one's achievement. The general rule is that the science of life must be taught. I do not consider energy work to be essential for immortalists because in the course of my experience of entry into the way, all manner of strange and wonderful inner transformations of the body, organs, bones, luminous bodies, etc, has evolved naturally with no intention on my part. It's just not my job to be concerned about these things. I have never practiced any formal zazen or tai chi or MCO anything. I know nothing about it from any formal or casual training. Most (young) people decide that the science of life involves energy work, but this is not true. The science of life taught by authentic traditions involving a student and a teacher in the aftermath of sudden realization depends on the student and the situations encountered. The science of life involving "grafting" was designed in ancient times for people of advanced age and working with the highest caliber teachers of exemplary tradition in the Southern School of Complete Reality. To be sure, certain disciplines involving meditation and energy-work is effective and a regular process of working with a teacher, but this was always implemented only after years of study of the classics and generally advanced and formal types of education in the sciences and humanities. In my experience, the science of life is about bringing the absolute to bear in terms of harmonizing the light in actual situations. I did not have the benefit of a physical teacher. I only have had real-life ordinary situations and a highly simplified and disciplined approach to living. I suppose it would be safe to assume that having a teacher would accelerate the refinement process, but it doesn't matter. Chang Po-tuan didn't find his final teacher until he was 80. One's authentic teaching is wordless at any rate. But since the science of life involves the subtle operation according to the timing of actual events, some students would naturally require a certain amount of coaching— especially if one's predilection was helping future students in the esoteric traditions. In my own experience I found that the celestial design and the alchemical process is almost the same in its application before and after the sudden, so, for me, it was a matter of slightly different emphasis. For me, before and after really aren't any different. Essence and life are one from beginning to end.

I could start a thread about it, Ish❤ …or not €];·)) I'll mention some bits here and see what comes up. In general, buddhists start with fire and taoists start with water. That is to say, one starts with essence and the other with life. But the most natural and direct way is to enter into self-refinement by cheerfully accepting your lot in life in terms of everyday ordinary responsibilities without burdening the self with even the most subtle of cravings. Other than that, the twin cultivation of nature and life is none other than seeing through circumstances without denying characteristics. Seeing through the conditional realm as void of substance is cultivating essence. Not denying characteristics is selflessly adapting to circumstances which is the way to save/create/free energy. Energy in this sense is the energy of vitality: this is life. Here one uses essence to gather life. This is the direct and explicit exposed kernel of alchemic practice. Using Earth (open sincere intent), one clarifies conscious knowledge by seeing through the conditional. When you know it is empty (and act on that knowledge by not acting or non-doing), then polluted habit energy turns into unrefined potential energy. This frees potential (the energy otherwise stultified by virtue of karmic evolution), from creation. You enact this natural process. To put it in other words, one's own potential and that of others is freed from the matrix of karmic evolution by seeing through the temporal yourself. Seeing through the temporal is turning the light around to shine back on its source. This is itself working directly with essence with no intermediary. Well, in strict alchemical terms there is an intermediary: Earth (intent). This is the immaterial Center of the real body which has no location. This is also the secret of the highest understanding of the Golden Flower teaching. Looking at it in this way, twin cultivation of essence and life is taken up together from start to finish. So in real terms, essence and life are one already. Enlightening activity is just forgetting feelings and self-reifying views of self and other in everyday ordinary situations. When one uses essence in this way to enter into situations without minding, one encounters Difficulty, the third hexagram. One naturally gathers unrefined potential by activating open sincerity within the essence of conscious knowledge (this is also known as the child giving birth to the mother). This is just your mind right now without entering into habitual views of self and other. There is always a critical juncture in each situation's cycle (or many within many cycles within one cycle). The critical juncture I'm speaking of is called the Yin Convergence. When yang waxes and wanes and the killing energy of polluted yin energy comes to the fore, this is when alchemists withdraw the fire and store the heretofore gathered potential in utmost innocent Darkness, the fourth hexagram, without letting so much as a spark of intellectualism leak from the pot pairing water and fire. Just forget about it altogether— as far as you are concerned, just lay low and avoid further friction. In this way, it is actually possible to master the third and fourth hexagrams. I recommend it highly.❤ ed note: add "this is also known as the child giving birth to the mother"

Just because the grass feels the wind does not mean that it knows what it is much less fathoms its source. When a penrod rustles like the grass with a statement like, "Have you read the classics.", this is exactly what I mean. This one has neither ears nor eyes and that isn't my problem as the stringless tune isn't written down.

If seeing your nature isn't a big deal, how can one who has not say so?

Could someone explain the Buddhist belief system to me?
deci belle replied to DreamBliss's topic in Buddhist Discussion
I'll venture an on topic reprise and addendum… There is nothing to believe. There is no self. Nothing exists. Mind is enlightened. Activating the mind without dwelling on its contents comprises the totality of the buddhist canon. Gradual practice after sudden illumination is another matter entirely. ed note: add last line -
Just now I realized this topic didn't have to be that heavy, not that I'd avoid the opportunity to explore those heavinesses. For the past two months I'd considered how the idea (suninmyeyes') had played out in my past experience (applied to situations), and I assumed how suninmyeyes had meant it in her comment. There are at least two or three approaches to this topic I can think of. I assumed the way suninmyeyes might have used the term psychological suicide was in the relational/social sense; entailing both external and internal issues of relationship/societal status as well as emotional (d)evolution. I'm not sure exactly how to proceed… just this much is enough for now.❤
-
Basher said: Well, yes~ but it is not really done, in an ultimate sense, as it is already this way to begin with. It doesn't have the sense of the person at its core. This is the effect of the suicide as I know it. But as your comment was a response to sun's statement: In terms of suninmyeyes' statement, I know it as realizing that there is no other choice but to commit to the psychological suicide as it is an ever deepening way of relating to the world. So it's not so deliberate in a self-willed way like starting over, because you don't change anything. For my part it is the ceasing of change because I stopped following with the world with my mind. This is how one enters gradually into the immediacy of a spiritual life, as one now begins to see reality without its psychologies of personality and this is why sun's reference to suicide is so apt and powerful. It is really like this. Psychological suicide is realizing the nonpsychological is spiritual and proving it in actual events. You don't stop seeing the world; you just see it for what it is and abide in its midst by selfless adaption to everyday situations. This is what allows one to not go along with the world while functioning in its midst. Nothing is denied and the result is exchanging one's façade of identity for untrammeled freedom. It's an open secret that nobody knows but you. Nobody knows because it doesn't really look like freedom in conventional terms. But you are free of it and that saves (creates) an exquisite energy for evolutionary enlightening being. This is what stealing potential is, why it is and how you do it. The only other element in this operation is when. There is a line in the Yin Cinvergence Classic, one of the most ancient of all the taoist writings in existence, that says, "People know the spirit as psychological, they do not know why the nonpsychological is spiritual." People mistaking their reifying psychological spirit for the real mind is the the number one sickness of practice and is the all-time greatest lament of authentic teachers …at least in the Asian traditions. The sense of loss as sun describes is the tell-tale sign, the talisman, of witnessing the death of attachment to personality. Personality is the world. It doesn't stop; one ceases habitually feeding off its energy, which is polluted, karmic and un-redeemable.* What is being lost is one's attachment to it. You still have to live with it while in the midst of worldly affairs, or be subject to it when caught up in worldly ruminations. Then one's feeding off the impersonal aspect of the universe, as sun said, becomes natural. The asterisk is there because the work of the Great Vehicle of buddhas, sages and wizards (not to mention Jesus) was the redemption of just this world. One becomes one's own and the world's redeemer by giving the world what is its due. Since the personality is the property of the world, you relinquish it completely~ it doesn't even notice! This allows you to accomplish the buddhist subtle operation within Suchness as is; alchemy's stealing of potential and taking over creation; taking back the sparks of the Kabbala; grabbing cubic centimeters of chance of the Toltec tradition… it goes on and on~ it's really a matter of freeing potential. When the compulsion to act ceases to be a habit, you see what's going on without involving self-reifying thought. What is freed is your part in the karmic matrix, which naturally accumulates "grain by grain". This is the work of enlightening being; there is no morality implied or exercised. This is completely beyond the realm of convention; it is entry into the inconceivable without partner. It is completely real, natural and universally good, not by a country. It is the expression of the source of civilizations; the essence of unified selfless aware nature by which the conditioned self is killed off gradually until one realizes it has never existed. After one successfully accomplishes impersonal psychological suicide, one goes on to advanced practice. ed note: add "The only other element in this operation is when." after 4th paragraph; add last three paragraphs

This is what I deserve for writing on both sides of a biG serviette along-side my single short-pull Americano today at le cafe Iconik. True Reverence An ancient said, "Everyone can become a Yao or Shun. Yao and Shun were born sages; Tang and Wu learned to become sages." Laotzu said, "I am not a sage; I learned this." There are those with the unconscious (and unskillful) intellectual strategy which appears inwardly to themselves and their equals as every bit like reverence, but it is really nothing but the conceit of ignorance. Actually it is like the feeling that warms the cockles of one's heart. Taking this as a mark of attainment expressing a longing which has no room for the real to lodge, this becomes the pitiful hope and change of a spiritual dereliction. I'm exaggerating a prolix style of course, but it's not erroneous to suggest that this is in fact how it is— especially when I compose on serviettes in public spaces. Please do not misunderstand. The root of this mental state is the realm of subtlety itself. It is for this reason that one's practice of self-refinement should maintain a consistent firmness of adaptable concentration at the level of wonder twenty-four hours a day without a single thought of ceasing one's efforts. This is in order to penetrate the subtle in purifying every last insidious trace of ignorance which is the homeland of the coreless human mentality from the selfless nonoriginated mind-ground of one's own undiscovered living awakened buddha-nature. If one's reverential feelings for the teachings of those whose consummation and expression of the Way of Reality was learned, it should not engender that kind of cockle-warming feeling inasmuch as one's own entry by virtue of Lao's (seemingly accessible) meaning is a long process of self-loss until the bottom of one's bucket finally drops off. And only after that can one really begin to savor the singular flavor of the ancients for the first time. After all, the classics of the ancients were themselves written by enlightening beings of one Mind to aid those with the capacity to keep the knowledge of those born knowing alive. In so saying, seeing your nature is necessary in spite of what some here may propose because it is the basis of correct reverence. Verily, true reverence is one from start to finish even though one is unable to see it clearly. One continues to clarify its virtue in gradual practice after sudden enlightenment, so it isn't simply a matter of knowing selfless nonorigination in great cessation, either. This is no different than the fact of the mind-ground being the substance of the human mentality, wherein nothing is gained by the consummation of one's realization of the potential of sagacity. Entry into the inconceivable has no beginning; how can it ever end? Wonder of wonders. Unless one is unrelentingly haunted by a subtle sense of intangible perpetual loss to the world of one's personalistic relativity, one's reverence cannot be authenticated, nor can it be effective in terms of the unbending intent required by the real and natural alchemical firing process of the self-refinement of those not born sages. The correct sentiment of reverence expressed wordlessly by one's inherent nonoriginated selfless aware nature can be seen oneself. This can also be grasped by penetrating the subtle meaning of the twentieth hexagram Observing, whereby there is sincerity that is reverent. Reverence observing the mind with pure intent is activating the presence of the true nonpsychological awareness within your own subjective reasoning in the midst of ordinary affairs to dispel one's habit-awareness clinging to objects, desires and opinions. Just this is turning the light around to shine back on its source. What other Secret of the Golden Flower would you seek? This is the nondwelling mind itself. Seeing this is observing this. Having washed the hands is the same as the true intent of open sincerity without bias or inclination, pure and capable in the capacity of one's inherent potential perpetually refreshed. Not having presented the offering is not producing a single cockle-warming self-reifying thought. This is maintaining correct reverential presence. Complete Reality is just this mind-ground not producing thoughts …this is how it maintains itself as selfless nonorigination in perpetuity. You are no different in fact or in function. Who can observe pristine perpetually refreshed awareness without presenting the offering? If you want to take over creation, live long and see eternity, you will have to enter the tao in reality. Sagacity is learning the tao by imitating the tao. Harmonizing one's light inside and outside is just this reality of sincerity that is reverent entering the tao in reality. Then you find it is no different than your thieving vicious human mentality. Anyone can do this effortlessly. You just have to recognize it when it appears spontaneously, and then recall it over and over again. It is not a matter of buddhahood— it is the nature of buddhahood. This is your own mind right here and now. Your potential for sagacity is the seed of buddhahood. When the wonder of sudden illumination appears in the homeland of nothing whatsoever, you then plant this seed. Seeing it is for now~ it's just you. Its planting has no beginning, therefore the seed's effectiveness requires seeing your selfless nature~ you are not it. Correctly reverent before; one can then be effectively reverent after. The timing of the process from start to finish cannot be mixed up. …sorry for the big serviette.❤ ed note: misspelled the penultimate "reverent" in the last paragraph; add word "own" above; add "Who can observe pristine perpetually refreshed awareness without presenting the offering?"
