    The Articles section is going poofs!! Hurry and suggest to the higher-ups that, at least I, and maybe a few more bums wanna have a Complete Reality Taoism section! This is what I wrote to viator, our Concierge. Taoist spiritual alchemy is not to be confused with inner alchemy. It would probably be best referred to (through Shambhala's classic series translated over the last twenty-five years by Thomas Cleary and others), as the well known School of Complete Reality Taoism. Or, simply, Complete Reality Taoism. I myself have never practiced any formal anything, including energy-work, zazen or the so-called inner alchemy of nei dan and nei gong adaptions and spin-offs popularized by the countless marshall, sexual, wellness, meditation and subtle-body disciplines developed and marketed by many individuals, teachers and institutions in the West over the years. There is no one else on this or any other forum practicing and covering this teaching as described in the Southern and Northern branches of the Complete Reality school whose progenitors have their recognized classics in their current form in the Taoist canon going back well over two thousand years. It is very closely related to the Hidden Dragon school in that the lineage of both schools are attributed to two students of Lao Tzu. Though much of nei dan and nei gong practices are attributed to the patriarchs of the nonpsychological schools of immaterial spiritual immortalism who's cultural and charismatic personalities long ago transcended these esoteric traditions, at the highest levels of spiritual alchemy, there are simply no involvements in deliberate effort other than spontaneous adaption within ordinary situations without going along with selfish emotional and psychological momentum. This is the practice of going along with externals without going along with created energy. It is enlightening being activating the unity of temporal and absolute on par with Suchness of the Great Vehicle of Buddhism. The extremely ancient Yin Convergence Classic refers to this as the Virtue of the Receptive. It is all I have written about for the last five years and have been practicing since the late 80s. As the way deepens, all the effects of the nei dan and nei gong inner and outer practices are spontaneously realized without any effort and without any knowledge. In my case, over the last twenty years, certain states and inner movements occasionally take place day or night during ordinary activities. Often, I wake up in the middle of the night and inconceivable things are happening inside and outside my body …though sometime I activate subtle intent, it is 97% passive in terms of conscious observation. When the event reaches sufficiency, I just rest with it then kinda roll over and go back to sleep— haha!! Taoist spiritual alchemy has close correlates in Dzogchen Tibetan buddhism, the highest levels of Chan (Zen) buddhism, the inner teachings imbedded in the Tao Te Ching, the I-Ching and the recently revived transmission of the Secret of the Golden Flower as translated by Thomas Cleary and attributed in the text of the Golden Flower to the adept Wenshi, the founder of the Hidden Dragon school two thousand years before the current transmission is said to have occured. I can't imagine there not being a section devoted to this powerful and pristine teaching so deeply established as a profound source of the spiritual traditions rooted in the rubric of taoism. It's all I practice and elucidate in my many songs and technical treatises. I know there are more than a few bums familiar with this teaching even though many more can only conceive of inner alchemy as some kind of advanced energy work which it simply isn't. As the teachings and I go on to say, though the lower disciplines work with the created and do use the descriptions found in the manuals of spiritual immortalism, theirs is an adapted spin-off and not the root of the unattributable transcending all times and places. People should have an opportunity to discover that this root source tradition has a vast body of work that can be researched for decades just in the english translations and that exists in and of itself outside of energy-work and philosophical intellectualism. ed note: add word "years" to 5th paragraph

    Well, now that the Articles Section has been temporarily spared by virtue of being buried as deeply as possible in the General Discussion forum, we don't need a separate section for all of deci's stuff (and everybody else's too)— hey, it wasn't my idea. …but a nice opportunity nonetheless that some mysterious powers toyed with. We can even yell across the abyss at Apech hanging out avec those Hermeticists!❤ Perhaps these words on the Complete Reality tradition I go on and on about will be overlooked by the drive-bys and the mettlesome looky-loos who don't have anything better to do than to piss on posts, I dare say often enough, they cannot ever hope to reach in their current condition.     In response to a bum's PM asking about study of the Cleary translation of the Secret of the Golden Flower…❤ Just read through the book innumerable times without ever needing to understand it. There is much in it that refers to the inconceivable which you can only experience for yourself— it is not that anyone can ever understand these things. Other than trying to penetrate the underlying meaning of passages in the text, which I will try to discuss in terms of application in ordinary situations, your queries should be grounded in how the teaching applies to potential. Work toward articulating your queries based on your involvement in ordinary situations by stripping it of physical, emotional and psychological content because this is how we apply the reversal of the light to creative evolution as it occurs in our lives. We do this in order to absorb its uncreated potential to further the evolution of enlightening being. "A grain and then another grain, from vagueness to clarity." Creative evolution is karmic awareness; the world as you know it and see it. This is the matrix of the attributable. The light is the light of your own everyday ordinary awareness, which is unattributable. This is Unborn, selfless open aware consciousness underlying and comprising creation. It is uncreated, nonoriginated impersonal knowledge, serene and unperturbable, solid, complete, miraculously aware space without inside or outside. The light of karmic awareness and the light of the unborn is the same light. Ordinary people follow the normal flow of the light of consciousness and enlightening beings follow it in reverse. Those who turn the light around are enlightening beings within nonpsychological awareness. So we use the power of nonpsychological awareness to take over the habit-energy of psychological awareness. In turning around one's own light, the relationships in and to any given situation are attended to personally, yet one's inner relationship with the world is abstracted. So we are learning to deal with nonpsychological energy. The more we work within the nonpsychological, the more we work outside of creation because we are working with the unattributable light itself. This is the spiritual work and subtle operation of immortals, buddhas and enlightening beings. So in turning the light around, we are just being honest and genuine with ourselves and others in ordinary situations without going along with the created energy that is the form and consciousness of the cycle of the event, situation, relationship we are involved in at any given time. This is because we are working with uncreated potential in terms of the situation itself, which only occurs because of karmic momentum and our enlightening being functioning independently from within it. Genuine function is completely outside of conventional mores. So if it weren't for the false, there would be no way to see the real. Enlightening being uses ordinary situations to refine potential instead of gratifying self-reflective ego desires. In so doing, we pick the real out of the false and hide it away in secrecy. This is the work of spiritual immortalism, the alchemy producing the body of the embryo of sagehood, which is the body outside the body, coeval with reality before the dichotomization of the two things. There are levels of the Golden Flower practice for inner work in the volume, but I work directly with the unattributable to start with and this is the whole point of the teaching as originally transmitted and subsequently translated by Thomas Cleary. If you can just work with your own ordinary light of conscious awareness and see through your involvements in ordinary situations without attachment speculating in emotional outcomes and without avoiding responsibilities to the clear responses required of you in the moment, this is the gist of turning the light around and entry into the inconceivability of the Great Vehicle. If you do this for a long time, the inner processes will occur in and of themselves without any effort, contrivance or deliberate intention whatsoever on your part.

    I find that, in the overall scheme of things, the essential operation in terms of turning the light around consistently in the midst of situations is advancing the fire according to the timing of situations and withdrawing in secrecy when sufficiency is reached. I would recommend students to study the Kuei ku tzu, or "The Master of Demon Valley". It is the first part of Thomas Cleary's Thunder in the Sky. It discusses terms like "opening and closing, "hooking and clamping" and "holding the pivot". Those who are autonomous yet humane in daily life and are familiar with the seamless application of the Sun Tzu in everyday affairs ought to be ready to learn the usage of the Kuei ku tzu in becoming adept in turning the light around. Creation is constantly providing the situations for us to enter profound abstraction in the midst of ordinary situations. Arrow-points meeting and mutual response isn't right or wrong, good or bad. It's real. When one advances the fire by hooking and clamping at the critical juncture of an affair is to invite exceedingly unrefined energies. This is precisely the time to satisfy the face-value of karmic potential being wielded by other. Then we can go along with desire subject to the full consequences. Therein is the power inherent in everyday ordinary situations. One must become dangerously vulnerable. The requirement is to go along with desire without stepping over the line. Desire is another name for unrefined potential. We engage desire by hooking and clamping (for instance) yet do nothing with it. It's like riding a wild tiger. You go along without deciding anything. That you will get your fair share of abuse in the interim goes without saying. This is the time of hiding one's light in secrecy when nonpsychological awareness comes to the fore. Mother nature (karmic evolution) does not like to be fooled, but you do it anyway— in order to steal potential.

  7. Recognizing true lead

    In order to learn to recognize the true lead, one must know there are two aspects to temporal aware being. Intellectual conscious knowledge is what we come to habitually use to create illusion and form views relative to, and in support of, our personal identification, or personality. Originally a functional aspect of the conscious self, when it over-rides its proper function and takes over control of conscious awareness, self-conscious characteristics of the ego-driven human mentality suppress the totality of awareness and potential of real human being. Conscious knowledge then becomes insecure, unstable, flighty and so is symbolized by mercury or quick-silver. The temporal totality of awareness and potential of real human being includes the flexible capacity of real consciousness and firm, unequivocal real knowledge, symbolized by lead. Lead is metal; dense and heavy, which easily sinks. If not buoyed warmly, held securely and intimately nurtured by real consciousness, real knowledge sinks and becomes unavailable to human awareness and so the totality of awareness and potential fragments. This is why ego is insecure— but it is not the fault of anyone else. Real consciousness then loses its real function and becomes conscious knowledge. When true lead, real knowledge, separates from the totality of awareness and potential, it becomes the tiger which runs off and hurts one's neighbors as errant feeling. Since it stays in the province of other, the first task of alchemy is to call it back. But in order to call errant feeling back and thereby restore the true lead, one must first find the center. So the way to return the self to sane energy is to gradually build up the will by lessening self-importance and exercising unbending intent. The true intent of the human body has no location, so it is not a matter of focusing on any point in the body. As I have stated often, no aspect of alchemy is outside the realm of adapting to everyday ordinary situations. It is not found in quiet meditation nor in grafting or energy-work. The medicines are immaterial, the furnace and crucible are immaterial, and the elixir of the gold pill is immaterial. Though this center is immaterial, it is not found outside one's real body. Because it contains the impulse of life within it, it is called the center, the yellow woman, because it is responsible for joining the medicines, it is called the go-between. This is symbolized by earth, which is still and stable. The inherent capacity to realize and maintain the unity of the totality of one's being is the true intent of the immaterial human body. Not a person, it is the vessel of inherent enlightening being used to secure and refine conscious knowledge and real knowledge. When one knows to follow the purpose of perception independent of personality and intends the realization of the totality of one's being, unbending intent is then used to dismiss personal histories, stop the internal dialog and lose self-importance in order to forget feelings, cultivate sane energy and abandon the habitual states of one's conditioned personality. When the feelings are forgotten, true lead returns to conscious awareness and selfish reasoning loses its influence over the human mentality, enabling one to avoid self-generated trouble. The true lead, real knowledge, is the knowledge of absolute certainty, which is the absence of confusion. This is then the initial return of real knowledge, independent of reason— which is the seed of sane energy of the real body. Nurture this with conscious knowledge using subtle concentration twenty-four hours a day warm in the vessel of the earth pot, true intent. In the first arising of yang within yin, it will not do to use it. In terms of the medicines, this is restored metal in water, symbolized by the trigram Water. In terms of Yang potential of the firing process of spiritual alchemy, this is symbolized by the 24th hexagram, Return. When one achieves the return of certainty of the living potential, what is necessary is to not act on it. Just nurture this single vague yang consciously in the stillness of Earth, until it is replete. ed note: add ", until it is replete.", in the last paragraph

    Neither seeking acceptance nor avoiding censure in full view of prior illuminates looking back on the path perpetually arriving those traversing the abyss of the eternity of creative evolution in one step arrive without striving nor tarrying— only responding according to the timing by riding the nonpsychological spirit inherent in the situation itself.

    Before the first thought, who already knows? From this it is clear that one who steps over eternity does so for all times and places without conventions relying on before and after. Who already knows refers to one's unborn essential nonorigination preceding the dichotomy of yin and yang. Naturally, this is the ancestor of on one mental moment there are past and present of all worlds. This is just a bit of cuteness in that since there is no beginning there is nothing whatsoever that does this. There is simply nothing whatsoever. This is not another time. There is no person. This is the identity of a tathagata. This is you whether you know it or not. Since there is not before or after for such a one, such a one need not rely on convention. In fact, one must dispense with convention in order to enact subtle operation. One just meets the requirement of the time as the path develops in spite of the world's expectations. Stepping over eternity really isn't so special at all. It is the natural manifestation of enlightening being without regard to outcomes relative to conventional mores. It is just a subtle shift in one's orientation. This shift is a result of a fundamental change in one's conscious vision whereby seeing becomes unhinged from the self/other dichotomy. Freed of the habitual course you see outside of duality. It looks the same, but you don't go along with it. That's not to mean your actions are contrary to the normal course of affairs. Adapting selflessly is just mutual response in terms of seeing through phenomena without denying characteristics. Your going along is an actual mystery. It's entry into the inconceivable~ it's not just that other people don't know. People, when Bodhidharma said "Don't know", he really said swallow the entire universe in one gulp. Who can say without hesitation— What is it? From this it is clear that one who steps over eternity does so for all times and places without conventions relying on before and after. Not relying on anything is just recognizing one's own true mind. Repeating myself, this is not a matter of sudden realization. It is just one's own everyday mind not thinking good or bad, right or wrong. Before the first thought this inherent unborn true mind is just nonpsychological awareness. This is immediate knowledge without deliberations. What has precedence throughout the ages is just this true mind that has never relied on people, places, situations or reason. This is how one transcends yin and yang in terms of cycles of conditioned evolution. This is not being subject to creative evolution while planting lotuses in fire and cultivating yellow sprouts in endless transformations. If not for creation this would not be possible. So not going along with creation is just not seeing it outside of impersonal nonreflective nonpsychological awareness. One just forever misses out on going along with creation. Without stepping over the line, you still follow desires. You are still subject to the evolution of karmic debts, but that is just the nature of reality. Without karma, existential consciousness would have no functional basis for the subtle operation within self-refinement and stealing potential in the midst of ordinary affairs. Just this last paragraph arrives at one's own working definition of stepping over eternity without relying on before and after. ed note: add last four paragraphs

    Don Juan Matus said that all paths are equal in that they all lead nowhere. That is why one must find the path with heart and traverse it completely. To dabble without true entry is to throw one's life away. One knows it is a path with heart because it strengthens, challenges and enlivens one's life. It requires one to live one's life as a warrior. It develops spontaneously as a result of discipline and precision that spares nothing on account of self-importance. Any other path is a lie. To live as a warrior is to believe in nothing whatsoever and act with controlled folly. A path with heart requires that one act for no reason at all— for the hell of it; without thought of selfish concern for outcomes. Only geared for struggle, tuned for fluidity and unsentimental objectivity and ready to grab the cubic centimeter of chance, the spirit clean and clear in order to flow freely after deciding to act without ever looking back. This is to find and follow a path with heart.

    If by treading the path of prior illuminates we arrive at the applications of subtle awareness one can begin to realize the value of wisdom that is in the application of its virtue has no cause. Stanza 10 may possibly be the crux of gaining access to the subtlety which is the heart of before and after. Because causelessness is itself the open secret of one's own manifestation of functional aware enlightening being, here one can gain the power of freedom and openness inherent in karmic evolution. Reality is to be found in the midst of worldly affairs. There has never been another time, and there has never been another place to enact this. Enacting unity is not a separate affair. It is oneself at all times and places adapting to the necessities of objective response. This is to say that the heart of before and after is the time of sameness in the midst of differences. I'm sorry if that seems like a lot of mumbo-jumbo, but it's true. This is because when you see that all the different times, places, people and events are truly non-attributable and your acts are simply spontaneous gestures rooted in a space empty of self and other, though acts may or may not make sense to oneself and people, one does not mind. One neither acts arbitrarily nor goes along with convention in terms of self-reflective intent. It is simply going along with the momentum of the situation itself without stepping over the line. Response is completely dependent on the potential of the situation itself. It is the situation itself which determines its own logic. It is very simple: it does not depend on you. When you deal with the situation on its terms, one can begin to realize the value of wisdom that is in the application of its virtue has no cause. When you yourself know that no one knows, one gains this much freedom to act selflessly according to events as they unfold unbeknownst to others. It is simply genuine sincere openness without regard to anyones intent. This is because you know that you really don't know too. This is the practical basis of functional sameness beyond descriptions of absolute and temporal teachings. The practical difference is that no one else knows that you do not have any attachment to outcomes, nor do you intend any outcomes— however logical or appropriate they may seem. Why? Because the there is no instigational cause either before or after in terms of karmic evolution; because reality is inconceivable; because…

The comment about enlightenment not being a big deal for taoists was made by another mod on SereneBlues "Taoist Lineages" thread. The point of pointing out reality and the real effect of actually seeing it for yourself outside of history and puny psychologies is just this. Ignoring ignorance is unconscionable for enlightening being in this instance because this forum is just this. Penfold's message is a convolution of literalism compounded by the sickness of attachment to historical teachings. I do not talk about historical teaching. When I say I know more about what Penfold is talking about than Penfold does— I'm talking about Penfold's psychological posture~ referring to anything outside of that would indeed be illogical, seeing as how this individual has yet to orient himself in a way that would open himself up to the most rudimentary of subtleties. I appreciate your input, Yellowsky, but as this is neither a psychological nor intellectual affair dependent on opinion or belief — it is necessary for me to clarify this literalist's position. If Penfold cannot reply appropriately at this point, it will then be the time to zero out further dialog with this individual.     What never ceases to amaze~ yet shouldn't really, is that we already know this. When the scales fall away, the wonder is the most familiar thing. Not only of the absolute, but exactly as you have just stated— because it is truly the fact of the matter. The difference between the unconventional suicide you mentioned and just throwing yourself away into the path of destruction is a hairsbreadth. Or perhaps even less. But the energy of the unique living path within each situation carries us through the critical junctures without expending any energy …or perhaps the situation itself is what blows. I don't know. I have found that one just responds on the situation's terms, then at the right time, for no reason (relative to self), one just stops~ or goes …and the whole thing just poofs!! Then everything is brand-new and refreshed and I didn't try to do anything! Reversal is exactly what the ancients called it and the (relative) reasons are compounded. They don't call it unconventional for nothing to go against the flow!! One just sees it through by seeing through it. I say I just find out what happened in the end. It's funny the way the situations play. People become amazed, but I don't know what happens when reality does the flip. It just becomes apparent that I didn't go along with the change.     Dreaming of the Flower Ornament scripture is still dreaming. Wake up to your own mind and delve into that as a lifetime of study. There has never been another teacher. The fact of the matter is one cannot view the classics by the eyes of a tathagata without seeing through the eyes of a tathagata. Otherwise people could not become confused themselves by studying them. Objectivity is the prerequisite. I told you that studying the Avatamsaka Sutra is like studying air. If that suites you, fine. I find myself getting by occasionally not even breathing air. Why spend a lifetime studying air when an instant of mind-study will penetrate the source of sages, saints and buddhas? It took lifetimes to write the Hua Yin Sutra. It is a comprehensive description, but it is not the reality. It takes an instant to see selfless nonorigination, but a lifetime to harmonize the absolute within the relative. Just this is practice. Unless you see your nature, what would you dare harmonize? What would you comprehend? Soften the light dull the edges close the doors When there is nothing you could possibly fear missing out on, this is arrival.
