The I Ching says to refine the self by mastering the mind; mastering the mind is turning the attention around to gaze inward. How is this any different than Wenshi's saying to turn the light around to illumine its source? The Secret of the Golden Flower is the same as the alchemy of the Gold Pill, the immaterial elixir of immortality. There is no need to get excited about it. All one need do is to seek the source correctly. The correctness of turning the light around to discover its source is in Governing the Home. The home is the self. Refining this self is refining yin. What is yin? Yin is the human mentality. When one learns to turn the light around, the human mentality turns into the mind of tao, and one unconsciously follows the will of God; follows one's desires without ever stepping over the line. ed note: change "follows the will" to "unconsciously follows the will" in the last paragraph -

hi SlackerBee❤ Functioning with a relatively absolute sense of objective awareness based on clarifying one's own emotional consciousness might be the working definition of basic sanity for some people. Using this sense to skillfully adapt to ordinary situations without giving rise to psychological reification would then enable one to act without incurring karmic debts in the course of responding without confusion. I say the Valley Spirit is ready empty openness where potential moves. The glossary in Thomas Cleary's translation of Chang Po-tuan's Understanding Reality (Wu chen p'ien) says that the valley spirit is a symbol of open awareness. Since the Tao isn't really accessible, it has no correlate. I don't view it as a yin/yang relationship. In the Explanatory Talks section of The Book of Balance and Harmony on page 86 it says: -

takaaki~ I've re-read my post and I don't know where the sick dog and cab driver come in… it seems pretty plain to me. When hearing details of the inconceivable, you'll just have to let it register somewhere other than the intellectual venue. I'm sure there are cab drivers that know this already~ not so sure about those poor sick doogies, though…❤

I say I don't know. There is no person anyway. If one needs to reference then one uses the reference one has to use. I know I don't know. I have only seen and felt, I have never heard words. I have seen a teacher in the Chinese style awaiting on a rise. The path is one. Living myths or symbols or people all communicate the mystery according to one's capacity. Nothing has precedence in terms of the path. When one is done with the world, one follows the path of prior illuminates. Ultimately it is not a person. I only deal with ordinary situations myself according to situations. Though they come and go, I do not go along. All the myths amount to the wonder. They are all so wonderful. I do not go along with anything. I miss out completely. I only have seen the lineages of the Complete Reality and the Hidden Dragon schools both started by students of Lao Tzu. I don't know anything about the Pre-Celestial Way school nor do I really know anything about the other two schools other than what I've practiced for 20 years attributed to the Complete Reality school. I just found out what little I've seen about any lineages when I googled Wenshi because the phrase "turn the light around", found in the Secret of the Golden Flower is attributed to him in that book. When did the Pre-Celestial Way school start, and who started it?

This is the threshold of knowledge without bias or inclination where one can respond without conventional reifications clouding action. Wonderful. It is your own mind after all. -

Owledge. Please. This understanding of compassion of yours is utterly arrested in terms of convention. You can aspire to this. But do not attempt to make this position the standard. Selflessness has nothing to do with your limited understanding. True compassion has no basis in emotionalism and is not relative. When people see their nature, they can begin to participate in selfless realization of enlightening being. This is preposterous. What mr V is referring to is within the province of the inconceivable which is not only not created, it is beyond process. Please do not project the absolute based on the relative. Yes, the absolute (truth) is that there is no truth. But this can only be a point of ignorant contention if you yourself have not seen your nature. At the present time, your entire argument is specious. In other words, not only is your contention not helping any possibility of resolution because of a complete ignorance of your own mind (which has no belief of any kind sticking to it), your grasp of what mr V has laid out in what you quoted in nonexistent. You insist on separating your limited conditioned emotionalist sense of compassion from everyday ordinary skillful means employed by anyone capable of selfless (nonpsychological) enlightening activity. Just because this subtle operation is beyond your present capabilities is no reason to drag skillful means down to your level of understanding just so you can cut it up.
