Thank you so much for the links, tccii.❤ When HE asks for a link to a Chinese-language version of the Secret of the Golden Flower and hydrogen responds with a link to a pedestrian Wilhelm translation— this is exactly the kind of completely unconscious blog-mentality being employed towards supposed self-refinement by those habituated to thoroughly unmindful energy-work. The Wilhelm translation needs to be forgotten. Wilhelm's source document was tailored to a spin-off cult using recreational meditation techniques to get off. Simply pathetic beyond words. Moving right along~ Since things come from the way, they are no different than the way, so it is not a matter of abandoning things to search for the way. Nothing is "given up". For starters, reversal can be expressed and developed simply by not taking it upon oneself to habitually intellectualize arbitrary opinions and feelings towards anything at all whether objects of self or other are internal or external phenomena. Another word for this is not-doing or nondoing. Creation is the manifestation of the way. There is nothing else to work with. The only difference between enlightening activity and willingly going along in the matrix of karmic momentum, is turning the light around. There is no other mind. It is possible to arrive at the beginning and cross over into the unborn mind itself by reversing the light and shining it back onto its source where you are right now. This is the unexcelled method of adepts. Arriving at the solidification of the totality of oneself is entry into the inconceivable. This is sudden enlightenment. Though it is instantaneous realization, the process of self-refinement is carried out in a sustained subtle course of unbroken effort over a long period of time— like a hundred days, a thousand days, ten thousand days— it doesn't matter to those who have the will to enlightening being. The teaching is sublime, but it is people's own habitual selfish ignorance, physical, mental and spiritual laziness and avarice that prevents them from seeing reality as it is, even now in the reading of these words. Just as nothing is gained from sudden enlightenment, nothing is lost in turning the light around. Try it. All the taoist classics speak of return, tell of reversal to arrive at reality, but no one can accomplish this. It is such a pity. As for the Secret of the Golden Flower practiced by ignoramuses— the waterwheel and derivative exercises are discussed in countless other manuals. It is unconscionably perverse to insist that energetics is the import of this transmission. If only for the fact that a few European adventurers who arrived on the scene of a science deeper than science itself (and only a few thousand years late to boot), that there is a wasteful contention that not only overlooks the point of the teaching itself, but (during its European heyday), tried to make it out as a heavily-veiled mystical wonder too good for ordinary people. Oooooooh (Must. Genuflect. At. Jung's Altar)! In spite of the shortcomings of Wilhelm's source document and its poor translation, the real benefit of its debut in the West's lexicon was simply that it was discovered at all! An excellent version of an authentic source document has been available in English since 1991: ISBN 0-06-250193-3. It is just that body-based energy work is easy to grasp, while working with the light of consciousness is inconceivable, that people covet their tiny little specks of practice and imagine that a minor subtle-body trick will somehow, eventually transport them to inconceivable realms~ veritable signposts of the way. If you want to arrive at entry into the inconceivable, it is necessary to work with inconceivability from the very start. ed note: exchange f-word for "pedestrian" in first paragraph

I'll try to let you know without being too sassy, ok? heehee!!❤ The point is reversal, hydrogen. The part about turn the light around that you don't understand is the entire concept, I'm afraid. It's about being utterly independent and awake without anyone knowing that you are, in order to first realize your nature, then to take up advanced practice and fulfill tasks in secret. Only enlightening beings are capable of this. It is the great vehicle of saints, sages, wizards and buddhas. Turning the light around is itself enlightening activity~ no need to sit around waiting to experience enlightenment, which isn't a big deal after all. I'm not making any points. This is a description of discovering and developing one's relationship with impersonal aware nature. Your nature. You know, the one you are completely unaware of. Your own everyday mind is the light itself. You are following it unawares in step with creation. Baaaaaad. haha!!❤❤ If you are referring to the Wilhelm version, you won't be getting anything outside of energy-work. Baaaaaaad. The term turn the light around was coined by the adept Wenshi who was a student of Lao tzu. How old is that? Lao Tzu had two students who went on to start the Complete Reality and Hidden Dragon schools. Both these schools are direct transmissions of Lao Tzu's teaching. How is this not taoist enough for you— as if it matters?!! That the northern branch of the school of Complete Reality is, at its highest levels of application of realization, essentially the same as Chan is attributable to the way itself. The way isn't taoist, buddhist, Confucian, or any other tradition's possession. The Secret of the Golden Flower is an "all at once" transmission re-introduced in it's present form during the period of China's cultural implosion at the hands of Great Britain. If you want to work with what is the same in order to arrive at what is the same then you must try to get beyond your comfortable conceit of tradition and realize that reality is not a product of a country, teaching tradition or an entry-level meditation technique. I can tell you that sudden enlightenment is itself an entry-level experience. Is that saying a lot? Or not? You do in fact need to give up on life as you know it. How profound is that? So profound in terms of subtlety that no one will know that you have turned the very light of creation around to shine back on its source. Turning the light around is not for those who do not have the will for enlightenment. I noticed you did not even get into any this~ only the part about having to give up your life… not very intrepid of you, dear. It's not at all energy work, but then, realizing the totality of your self may not be for you, either.❤ ed note: dang! typo in laaaast sentence. pooh!

In overturning creation by selfless adaption to conditions one operates in reverse. When one does not use mind to create illusion in the face of situations, feelings are not aroused and the body's vital sense is stabilized. By not speculating in cause and effect, one maintains detachment and ceases to entertain intellectualism in regard to phenomena and experience, thereby one stills essential conscious energy. By twin cultivation of the metal sense of the mind of tao and the essence of conscious awareness joined in the center of one's being by the selfless intent of the human body, the singular signpost of the path is discerned. This can be said to be the recognition of firm unequivocal selfless objectivity brought about by the unification of conscious knowledge and real knowledge through the open sincere intent residing in the center of one's being. Unless the firm impersonal knowledge of reality is discovered through forgetting one's feelings and then gathering this knowledge consciously by alternately forging one's way against the flow of mundanity or withdrawing effort according to the time and by not minding in the face of everyday situations, there is simply no basis for the path to develop. ed note: add "…alternately…"; "…withdrawing effort according to the time"

I only can speak of broken bodies and their missing parts in the mountains where very large things rip loose …like the sky and rock and ice. Even clouds of snow roar deafeningly and bodies fall and fall …like a whisper on the landscape beyond reach. But I have never have had to make my home in a land of chronic madness and numbing terror…❤

Not going along is just not using what is seen, hydrogen. Whatever you see in daily life, in terms of potential, you do not see in terms of opportunities for speculation of outcomes. You do not see things in terms of quantifying, calculating and satisfying desires unawares. Unconscious judgement of good, bad, right, wrong, attraction, aversion, etc. are all "going along", using the shining mind to create illusion. The reason for this is to stop karmic activity, stop exercising the props of ego-reflective intellectualization, stop the endless flow of conditioned habitual mental activity, stop following external stimulus— the list is endless. Not going along is reversing the light of consciousness and has nothing to do with energy work. NOTHING TO DO WITH ENERGY WORK. Stop going along until you see your nature: then you will know the meaning of life and death and transcend Change. Going along is hastening death. Anything having to do with the body, physical or subtle is not it. Anyone who says otherwise is deluded.

To have the heart to take hearts One's vigilant observation is sustained at its source. Control admits no initiative; Conditioned energy is repelled By the rectitude of open sincerity: The extreme of firm brilliance Abides in its center unseen. The light of evolution is elemental habit energy. What is seen is not to be used. Though creation be taken over effortlessly How is this done unbeknownst to anyone? What is used cannot be seen. Seizing the heart of darkness Is just this rectitude of open sincerity So it will not do to act precipitously. Though the virtue of takeover is very great Even the cautious practice of introspection Is by virtue of this selfless open sincerity.

On the Secret of the Golden Flower and on ancient Chinese philosophy

Jeff dear, do not deny yourself anything on the face of this planet, anger included. Buddhas can rant to the moon and back and throw back drinks with the pilot the whole way. It is you who need to watch your p's and q's because you don't know where they come from yet. I'll repeat myself for you: There are no signposts. it is not energy. Your comment is off-topic as chakras have nothing to do with the Golden Flower teaching. Why do ignoramuses ask for signposts on the way? Because ignoramuses suggest they exist. Posted Yesterday, 01:55 PM rain, on 14 December 2012 - 09:41 AM, said: you will finally see for yourself what has never known creation, perpetually on the brink of action. Nice signpost, rain!!❤ Unless you see your nature, yours is the teaching of a mortal, not a buddha— regardless of whether you are seeking or preaching. -

Jeff, it's not energy work. It's not spontaneous combustion. There are no signposts. It is you own mind right now. The mind itself is it. The light of awareness is just your mind. REVERSE IT. How many times have I said just this much? The flowery words are so I don't go insane saying the same thing over and over. Why don't you people just look around yourselves. It doesn't matter what book you read. Dogen's Shobogenzo says as much. -

Either way, it's all the same to me, allan. It is what it is. In seeing your nature, there is no person. It is you yourself who wishes to differentiate the person from enlightening being. To me there is no longer any difference. In terms of light, it is your own mind right now. How is this reversed? I say it is by not sticking to any image of person or self. How does one go along? By following the same light in the ordinary course of events. It is recognized in preliminary practice stages as quiet sitting, but then is applied in the course of ordinary events to see through phenomena without denying their characteristics in order to respond to people and situations without getting confused. If you consider turning around the light to be energy work, I am afraid that it is not the unattributable light of nonoriginated selfless awareness. Turning around the light is itself enlightening activity matching creation with potential in order to operate within created cycles of temporal energy without going along with change. Otherwise, what would be the point of turning the light around? There is a reason for turning the light around— which doesn't require comparisons sticking to any image of person or self or imaginary opinions of how real people compare to other real people. I don't compare myself to anyone, allan—you do. Your discriminating perceptions and all your erudition of what it means to be attached to personalities, teachings and traditions of taoism is not only useless, but it also clouds your awareness. And still you have not uttered a word of this light you circulate so well. What of that, hmmmm?❤ ed note: "not" to "no" in first paragraph -
Yes, it is just that way, after all. Throughout the text of the Golden Flower, it seems to be very much a meditation manual~ certainly, one is dealing with the mind itself from start to finish. Yet, it is constantly referring to inner and outer light, authenticating experiences, turning the light around in ordinary circumstances. Meditation in terms of quiet sitting is just becoming familiar with the substance of mind in a controlled environment— it is not advisable to become attached to quiet sitting construing mind as separate from ordinary situations. Ordinary awareness is the light itself. Turning it around is just a matter of not using it to create illusion— this is accurate mindfulness. Maintaining a subtle concentration of the shining mind throughout the day and night in ordinary affairs is not apart from quiet sitting. In the course of interacting in ordinary affairs "if you can look back again and again into the source of mind, whatever you are doing, not sticking to any image of person or self at all, then this is 'turning the light around wherever you are.' This is the finest practice." Other than that, the secret is employing objective awareness of the mind of tao, true lead, in seeing through illusory worldly situations. This is reached by not sticking to emotional consciousness of any image of person or self at all. Though you have feelings in contacting situations, still you do not act on them or allow opinions to form unawares. "Not sticking to any image of person or self" is exhaustive in its application. It is most essential to the operation of turning the light around. So the book starts out as a meditation manual, then gradually introduces guidance to apply the open potential of mind in the midst of ordinary affairs. "Controls the outside", refers to controlling oneself in the midst of situations, without losing oneself through following external stimulus by maintaining autonomy. "One abides in the center", refers to accurate awareness "not sticking to any image of person or self at all". Turning around the light is not apart from seeing through phenomena without denying their characteristics. Not denying characteristics is seeing accurately. Seeing through phenomena is the same as "not sticking to any image of person or self at all". ed note: typo and italics in first paragraph

The Golden Flower teaching, if you can adapt it effectively to your own situations, is no different than Bodhidharma's Chan, the Complete Reality or the Dragon schools attributed to Lao Tzu's students or what I do, for that matter. Is there something wrong with surpassing LaoTzu, allan? If so, I'd like to hear about it. Only a student who can surpass her teacher is the teacher's equal. Either way, it's all the same to me. I've only been opening my Dharma Eye for 20 years now~ not that I've managed to clear all the sleepiness yet…❤ Would you like to penetrate the teaching itself and leave your aversions for a certain translator who some other professional translators would like to criticize— as if that bolsters your pet opinion in anyone's eyes. Have any of them have seen their nature, hmmmmm? You haven't. I only talk about seeing your nature, allan. When are you just goona drop the pretense? It's just a procrastination ploy that doubles as a way to whet your sassy-assed fighting spirit— changing your unborn awareness into a spinning karmic roulette wheel. Perfection is easy for those who have no preferences.❤ ed note: fix penultimate line's "an" to "a" -

Taoist Patriarch meaning of Body fast and inward gazing
deci belle replied to Suliman's topic in Daoist Discussion
These famous lines are singular in effect, different in application and adaptable to each person's individual situation. These people were writing with real situations in mind. It is not about what they mean. The application of the conquered mind is itself the meaning of the Buddhist and Taoist canons. Non-doing depends of the situation. You need to start applying your own situations to these words. How do your situations measure up to these words? Then, if you have a question for the bums, the application will be applicable to your situation, and you should express it in these terms. Nondoing is not acting arbitrarily. A thought is the same as an act. If you have many or few arbitrary thoughts, then apply nondoing to your arbitrary mental patterns. Does this make any sense? Can you describe how it does or doesn't? -

Actually, I must admit, you sounds exactly like me, allan!!❤ But I don't attack booksmarts with booksmarts. Impersonal objective knowledge is adamantine. You aught not stand up for a book, though. The authentic teachings are all like a talisman, once you enter the inconceivable. Before you enter the inconceivable, the classics have more of a shimmering quality. You just work with what works for others after that, that's all. I HOPE YOU STUDY OTHER BOOKS TOO!! Try to grasp this, allan: the classics of all the authentic teachings of the world were left behind by enlightened beings as a way to contact, guide and clarify potential illuminates in order to keep the knowledge alive. Do you believe there is any value for enlightened people to read the classics simply do to the fact that they share the perspective of the documentarians who left clues to assist in not only the realization of the potential hidden in the mind, but to clarify its application in created situations in the aftermath of realization? *Nod head in the affirmative* Just following the light in reverse is a figure of speech. Enlightening beings function by virtue of employing the light in reverse in order to adapt selflessly to situations without entering into conditioned energy. That's why we reverse the light. Following the ordinary course of creation is where we find ourselves in intolerable situations. Enlightening being is not finding intolerable situations intolerable. The situation is the same. The light is not about you. It's just how you go about reversing the ordinary way you relate to your own adherence to conditioned awareness and being stuck in the matrix of created energy. Whether or not you are enlightened, if you can operate in reverse through the viscitudes of ordinary situations, you are not different than a person who is. All the alchemic teaching show people how to do this in order to arrive at this. Sudden enlightenment is just the singular event of the uncreate sucking the uncreate into itself due to one's own uncreate function lessening one's adherence to condition being. Everything resolves in the Unborn. That is the meaning of the words, "entering water without getting wet and going through fire without getting burned". Even if people see an enlightening being getting burned and drowning in situations, it just doesn't stick and no one knows why. Enlightening being is neither here nor there. Both Samsara and Absolute are empty. A complete human has no delusion within delusion. Creation has no existence, that's why birth and death are nonexistent. I suppose anyone could get that out of a book. Why anyone would …I don't know. That's enlightened being in a nutshell. I hope I avoided your question successfully— not because the answer is immaterial to your realization, but because an enlightening being is free to never ever have to decide. And why not~ Heaven has never ever decided either. -

It seems you may be of two minds here, allan. Or, perhaps it is only the construction of the grammar. But it is obvious what you are getting at. What is not less in ignoramuses and not more in buddhas is our nature. Before we see our nature, we don't know. After we see our nature, it is clear there is nothing to know, other than the knowledge that selfless unified awareness is the nature of creation, therefore all people are just this. Heaven and tao do not do, because heaven and tao is not created. It is natural for one who has witnessed this truth by being the truth of nonoriginated nonbeing to do the same~ therefore, I do not either~ but I shouldn't let you off so easy. Bodhidharma's reply to the emperor who asked who was speaking to him said, "Don't know". If a realized being could say that to an emperor, why shouldn't I be able to say that to you? …after all, saying yes might mislead you into believing that there is something else to realize other that your mind right now. There is no other mind, no other heaven, no other tao. Your own ordinary mind is just this same light. Turning the light around is effortless. You don't need a book to turn the light around. However you do it, just do it. If you can, and are then able to follow the substance of your own awareness by virtue of not using it to create illusions, you will finally see for yourself what has never known creation, perpetually on the brink of action. It does not matter what you adhere to, mon ami… adherence to anything prevents realization of unity.❤ -
Of course, Mario~ what have you stumbled upon?!! haha!!❤ You can do whatever suits you …as you become aware of the processes in employing an evolving degree of choice in your actions and endeavor to adapt desire to the states and temperaments that your partners occupy. It is a matter of adapting to the complete reality you find yourself in at any given situation. Just being open to whatever presents itself in the sexual context… whatever completes the balance of energy is appropriate. Sex-energy isn't even about sex because the way sex works has no boundaries~ it is applicable to the nature of duality, which is why sex is what it is and works the ways it does. Ultimately, sexual expertise is the culmination of sublimating compulsive desires to refine the potential inherent in raw erotic vitality. Applied in evolving situations (per your perspective), an internalization of a balance of awareness and adaptability, as a reflection of unity of tangible duality, one learns to see that the workings of chaos in ordinary life can be adapted to. This is only limited by the situation itself and to the degree one realizes and expresses one's own complete human being— which is a result of harmonizing one's own sexual (dual) conditioned created being within openness and sincerity. Granted, there are strict traditions that have kept the authentic teachings alive— and those are aimed at arriving at seeing your nature. But sex is such a wonderful way to trick people into following their hearts' desire, which really is realizing the totality of the self.❤ ed note: break up that infinitely long sentence in the third paragraph

chris… turning the light around doesn't use so many words. Let's not intellectualize something that isn't words~ which would be the point of turning the light around in the first place, ie, seeing your nature.
