For those who have not yet refined vitality into energy; refined energy into spirit; refined spirit into openness and gone through the double pass and subsequently emptied out openness, there may still be doubts as to where to find the mysterious pass. Vaguely between the space where thought and desire secrete, there is a pass that has been left for all time without having formed itself. This is the the aperture of the Valley Spirit, the abode of the Mysterious Female. Before a single thought, there is balance; yet afterwards, when one's feelings are not yet aroused, therein is harmony. An alchemical classic states that the aperture is between the heart and genitals~ this refers to intellectual and emotional consciousness, the matrix and the seat of self-consciousness. When one has refined vitality into energy, feelings are forgotten. When energy is refined into spirit, thoughts are forgotten. The spirit is the house of fire and water, the medicines. Spirit is the will. Joining the two medicines, the elixir is formed, and the mysterious pass appears out of nothing. When the elixir is refined in the mysterious pass it turns into the gold pill, forever incorruptible. After the embryonic immortal is formed, one must seal it and incubate it until the accomplishment is solidified. Then it is possible to set up the cauldron and furnace once again, in order to initiate advanced operation. When one surpasses this, one no longer relies on inner vision. If one is successful and avoids leaking the refined elixir by maintaining strictness in incubating the embryo, an immortal takes its place. When one can then sublimate oneself physically and spiritually, one then steps over eternity, shatters space and becomes the same as the tao in reality. Then it is possible to follow in the steps of prior illuminates to develop the Virtue of the Receptive. The mysterious pass, existing before all time, is the aperture of nonorigination— giving birth to ordinary people and immortals alike. In this regard it is not limited to the absolute, but is the perennial gateway of potential aware energy in the living minds and bodies of all beings individually. Using this mysterious pass unconsciously is the norm for ordinary people. Self-refinement is the task of seeing the Mysterious Pass for oneself. For those who have refined the elixir of immortality by penetrating the mysterious pass, it is possible to actualize non-doing and develop the response-body. One learns to use this aperture of nonoriginated potential to match reality in everyday ordinary affairs. If one knows this aperture yet cannot use it— it is the same as not knowing. Wu wei is not a state— it is a function of crucial importance in the lives of ignoramuses and potential illuminates alike. Non-doing is the Great Sameness, unborn and undying. Actualizing potential in response to situations is the work of immortals. If you have experienced the undifferentiated, nonoriginated selfless potential it is imperative that you work on this basis. Don't throw this away! Where thoughts originate and feelings secrete is close to this immaterial aperture. It is the critical juncture where all the elements combine to form complete real human being. People mistakenly come to believe that human being is a title, whereas in reality, it is a capacity which is only rarely fulfilled. (ed note: add word "be" somewhere in the first statement)

This song is about the strategy winding down the remains of lifetimes; waiting out the momentum of residual karmic traces. Eventually, the vestiges of psychological kinesis run out and the finite path leading to the timeless aperture opens whereby the limit of the limitless is penetrated. Here is where the auspicious object hovers in space; liquid pearl flowing, subsuming as the image appears, approaching out of the depths. This is chaos, this is the cauldron; the elixir is ripe, the medicines complete. Though it is still not the time of stepping over eternity; the dharma wheel has been turned. The vision of changeless changing has no equal.

I wonder where these rumors come from. How much of a fraud must one be before one is really a fraud. I attribute these lingering odors to those who have left the scene. If in doubt, study the books he wrote while he still had a day-job. I suppose some people felt competitive or incompetent in light of his teaching. I would consider practicing his most basic, non-martial subject-matter to start with. I doubt anyone chose to have issues with those books. I studied and practiced his basic book about refining vitality which included opening the active and passive channels.

These are a couple comments I've transferred from a thread taowanderer started called, "So What does Tao say about attachment/desire". Desire is a wonderful thing. Attachment to desire is something else altogether. Attachment to anything is conditioned and dependent. I would have to say either you are or you aren't mired by dependent habitual conditioned energies. But mostly it is a matter of gravity and degree. In terms of the most basic necessity, observing the disease of the mind means it entails suffering. This is an habitual relationship not with the world, but with oneself. It is neurosis. This neurosis is a mental crutch. This is the dependency one must acknowledge and cut away from one's life. Don't be sidetracked by externals in this regard. One follows the heart's desire without stepping over the line. The most subtle veils are of your own making and must be swept away until there is nothing left of you. When you don't want, then self and other turn into mutual response because the situation becomes the context. Sure, no one else knows that— but when you do, you are not at issue with conditions. So when others are, you detach from their issue, not the situation. The situation may very well go on, but you don't. Who can start and end here without further deliberations? Not sidetracked by externals in this regard, one follows the heart's desire without stepping over the line. It is a most curious affair, because, lacking momentum, you do not go along with the world— and the world must have you at all costs. This is where Mara comes into play— she is relentless. She never goes away …she just backs off. Sudden enlightenment just severs the compulsion to follow conditions— but stopping is up to you, whether enlightened or not. Whereas creation is fecund— no end to manifestations material or mental. Enlightening activity is endless transformations according to the time without changing along with creation. As it so often happens, something comes in from left field and one's flow is obstructed. That is stopping. Ordinarily, one might seek to push through the obstacle— or even seek definitions. That is stepping over the line— even entertaining intellectualism. So one follows the heart's desire within unknowing (innocence, not ignorance or cunning). This is all made possible because self-refinement enables immediate acquiescence. The natural flow of the situation stops, it's not that you have to stop outside of stopping. You just have to see it. The physics involved is simply the lack of momentum, so one is not carried over into arbitrary action and one stays within the response-body. Enlightening being is a quality of responsitivity~ sudden realization is not a consideration in terms of effecting enlightened qualities. Why? Enlightening being is the quality of being so— it's self-refining action in the world; using the world's situations for refinement of self, instead of self-gratification. This is also practice. Without thoughts of good or bad, enlightening activity is open and sincere unminding response in ordinary events. Sudden enlightenment is just waking up to the fact that you have a lovely tan …whereas all along you have been in the sun. Being in the sun is like enlightening activity which is the action of an enlightening being. I've noticed a certain reluctance and trepidation in bums to actually write out the word enlightening. At the risk of appearing glib, I only mention it because people need to know that the sudden and gradual are two rails on the same track. They are one. Don't be mislead by the analogy of the two rails. The light is one substance and so are its inconceivable functions. Getting back to momentum, or even further— back to Harmonious' comment on now. The exquisite realm of now is effortlessness. Arbitrary ideas come from nowhere to upset the balance and harmony of now. Self refinement is training the aware being to maintain autonomy in the midst of worldly situations. After a long time, reality is recognized, but one loses this again and again when seduced by phenomena. Unbending intent, will, centeredness, concentration; single-minded determination is employed to avoid following externals. One develops discipline first (symbolized by the 3rd hexagram, then deflects externals (symbolized by the 4th hexagram). When secure in one's dedication to now, one stays here. It is ultimately natural. From this vantage, it is easy to see momentum (or conditioned potential) in other. That's why I say either one is or isn't attached to kinetic (karmic) momentum. In many respects, desire is complete in and of itself. Attraction is mutual, not in the conventional sexual sense— but in terms of self and other. Desire and bliss are coeval. This is the direct relationship we have right now with the heart of nonorigination within your own selfless original face. When one follows desire with openness and sincerity now without anticipatory momentum, one is activating the tao in reality without intermediary. This is enlightening being. The alchemical classics all tell us to refine the self and await the time. They also say neither rushing ahead nor lagging behind, like a cat watching a mouse-hole, ever vigilant, careful not to miss the timing. When the celestial time arrives, human energy is responsive. It's not a matter of helping the tao, it is just in responding to situations fearlessly, honestly and without cupidity. The whole point of this kind of subtle intensity is to follow the breath of creation, waxing and waning in order to imitate the celestial design. It is the affair of immortality in that one does not have to go along with creation at all. One leaves the matrix and enters the mystery. It is so for no reason. It just is and no one knows why. But the ancients have left this teaching for those who have the affinity to follow in their footsteps, and go on …beyond. In the final analysis, the benefit is this: taoism calls it stealing potential. It is as if the spiritually aware potential energy that makes manifestation possible is gathered by the individual not going along with the created manifestation. This gathering of potential is real, yet one doesn't actually gather anything. It goes back to following the heart's desire within unknowing: using innocence to follow the heart's desire without stepping over the line. One last thing… it is like the story of the monkeys who do not want 3 nuts in the morning and 4 nuts at night. So the monkey feeder says, "Ok, I'll give you 4 in the morning and 3 at night"— at this the monkeys are very pleased. First of all, you adapt to the situation selflessly and respond impersonally to give the universe its arbitrary causeless requirement in each situation as it arises. Secondly, one uses this situation to master the 3rd and 4th hexagrams in order to transcend the conditional aspect. Since you don't speculate on the conditional manifestation, you naturally cull its essential potential and seal it away. You see, the story illustrates that the world gets it all backwards— wants it backwards! Those of you who know the I Ching, know that the 3rd hexagram is Difficulty. This should be done before, i.e., in the morning. This is advancing the yang fire. This is effort. This is following desires. This is entering the tiger's lair. The 4th hexagram is Innocence. This should be done last. This is withdrawing the fire when the killing energy of the yin convergence first arises, in order to gather potential and seal it within innocence void of intellectualism. This is non-doing. This is not stepping over the line. This is stealing potential. I am directly divulging the secret. Who can put it to use? Don't be sorry, mon ami❤ The mystery is boundless. Not separate; nothing stored. Now can you accept that it is necessary to "dance around it" because what is key here is uncreated. Awareness is not a thing. It does not exist. What is alive and aware has actually never existed ever. Never has, never will. Miraculous awareness. I just want to weep! How do you work with what is the same? Only when one ceases the illusion of separateness can one work with essence. This is entry into the inconceivable; there is nothing to understand.

I'm into it deeply, hehe!!❤ The question is suchness; doubt is the fecundity of suchness. "Is suchness the same as…" Suchness IS. There is no distinction to construe. Fuse self/other by eliminating the distinctions creating the illusions of separation. It won't change anything but you (in secret). Why? So you can go along with changes without following creation. Why? The ability to act without acting frees one from karmic awarenesses and stultifying evolutions. Suchness IS complete reality now: moment, self, other, full, empty, presence, absence. Not you as opposed to this or that, picking and choosing. Presence makes no distinction. It doesn't happen to you. You aren't in it. Sameness has no inside , ouside, being, nonbeing. You are not outside this. Everyone is all this all the time. Sentient beings each have their own complete, perfect universe. Fusing the dichotomy is what alchemy is without a thought. I feel like I AM with him/her in the moment of desiring. Sex is the thing. Sex requires duality. What isn't duality? People make the mistake of thinking sex is only a certain thing. Making sex everything, have sex continuously~ no one will know. Whenever I say "no one", it also means awareness is impersonal. I have said this is other as well, but it is also the same as "no one". No one knows. When you see your original face, no one will know. Culling the elixir grain by grain is no one knowing. Every time no one knows is practicing suchness. What knows here is not a person; it is not a matter of thinking. It's like digesting food; you don't have to think about it. No one knows the doing of the refinement of the elixir. Do you understand my words, Jeff? As if one can say this without dancing around it. THIS IS UNSPEAKABILITY. Do forget about past and future. There is only other (not the object). When you see through objects, situations, thoughts, these turn into potential. Other is the impersonal awareness whether it occurs in the mundane or absolute— there are no two awarenessess. If you want to know suchness, you simply work with it directly. It takes both of you to feel lucky, it's not just you feeling— the feeling is the knowledge itself without a thought. So though flushing it out requires sex, it isn't sex. You use sex. You use the mundane to find the real. There is nothing else to work with. It's all suchness if it's not about things. It's about awareness— this is what is alive right now. Awareness is the living aware energy, unborn and undying. It's what you take for your own mind knowing right now. You are just as much an illusion in your own skin-bag as that object you are discriminating. One suchness; one illusion. Practicing suchness IS selfless. Selflessness is not a warm, fuzzy moral imperative. This is beyond good and evil. Use impersonal awareness to suspend the time without entertaining separateness. Desiring is the moment of the tingling without speculation in phenomena. Again, as you say, this is murky~ so this is presence within potential; the alchemic term is unrefined elixir. You know this time. Not speculating in phenomena, You snatch this bit of vitality and store it in silence. Ordinary ignoramuses use awareness to create illusion. Enlightening beings pick the real out of the false and store it away in silence. Grain by grain, you cull the elixir. ed note… add first sentence, hehe.
