  1. The Real

The real. Who sees this? Just the same. But for those who stumble upon it here it is. Responding, advancing, withdrawing waiting~ with no things on the mind; ready~ adapting to situations objectively. But what is this? Reality. A whole working totality complete, unborn and solitary. Brimming at the cusp of actualization momentarily for ever and ever… Who sees reality without distinction? This is not some other place! The ravishing beauty has no attaching. Even the raw expression of exceeding altitude has no equal and is equally difficult to arrive at. How much the more is that which cannot be known by the body~ …but is the body, a speechless, inconceivable mystery. This is not something else! Do you imagine equality with reality entertains understanding much less doing? This is not some other place! Eternity has no distance; Beginninglessness has never tasted a time: So true reality is not far. Neither picking or choosing ignites the furnace and swirls the cauldron as you watch what you took for your life flow on and on and on you see the working of non-origination.

  4. Yin Convergence Classic

A few words on this work… yin convergence in terms of alchemy is letting the natural cycles of killing energy (Hexagram 23) operate without resistance. The document itself goes into considerable length describing ordinary (abnormal) psychological tendencies and presumptions. I just bring this up in terms of essential experience, taking off from the opening statements of the ancient Classic, one of the oldest known of its kind in the taoist canon. Observe the way of Heaven. Entering eternity all at once; Transcending self and other exchanges one karmic interval for open-ended presence. This is not some other time. It's just you, right now. Practice the action of Heaven. Only spontaneity embodies virtue; Acting without desire, your own living inconceivability enters time. This is a time out of time. Only you know it. You make it fit the occasion. It's just you meshing tacitly with creative evolution. This occasion is simply a matter of response. The light of the spirit is used to eliminate any possibility of opportunism. You know there is no thing. You act. This is called takeover. People do not know why the nonpsychological is spiritual. Taking over creative evolution is a manipulation of times. Each time is like a trap. You see it, and then you jump into it— at the right time. No one else knows, but only you walk out of it. This may be nonsense, but how can you not be careful? The mechanism is in the eyes. What cannot be violated can be mastered by Following (Hexagram 17). What is extraordinary about this vessel is that it does not align with calendrical time. So it is tranquil and unperturbed, progressing beyond forms. Understanding change transcends their endless transformations. This isn't philosophy, this is strategy. I said it is like a trap, but you see it as a gap. Be the first to fill it without rushing or lingering— and nothing can hold you back. Situations present themselves— this is the result of deep observation. Power recognizes exquisite acts— this is the result of audacious practice. How can you not be careful? Can you be fluid? Can you be free? Life is an endless inconceivable mysterious wonder. The true human being has no status. Do you know?
  5. Yin Convergence Classic

Hi bbsoft! It could be observed as a high level, yet it is most relevant in the context of a depth inherent in everyday ordinary situations. I found the document in the translation by Thomas Cleary on page 220 in his Vitality Energy Spirit and have referred closely to it for a long time. It seems to be a ravishing gift direct from high antiquity. Our modern cultures and civilizations simply aren't so! It's just how we are shakin' it in our lifetimes. I have written related material on yin convergence processes using what is embedded in the various hexagrams. I recall discussing aspects of hexagrams 23, 46 and 4, among others, as examples. The hexagrams and the lines of the I Ching clarify types of time and gravities of potential. Overall, I used the first sentence in paragraphs 3, 4, 6, & 7 of this post from the classic document itself and filled in with my own words to bring out the meaning I was trying to express. I take "Life is an endless inconceivable mysterious wonder." from my own experience. It is actually not a thing, yet can be described as a seamless continuum, much like the frequencies of light, sound, radio and atomic spectrums are. We are forever surrounded by an horizon of infinite proportions regardless of our individual evolutionary development. How wonderful is that!!❤ I have and do study various limited material translated into the English language from the Chan and Complete Reality schools, as well as The Art of War and the Flower Ornament Scripture … I must admit to having internalized the teachings pertaining to characteristics of perception described by the Yaqui sorcerer, Don Juan Matus~ but that's about it. One's life is the application, experiment and proof of these principles, tailored by the vestiges of our own karmic footprints. They don't call it wisdom for nothing. If one is able, one can practice, that's all. Only forgetting words, however valuable they may appear to be is key— because the real teacher is found in the center of one's being. There is no other but the body's own silent selfless immediate awareness. We make ourself the guest and set up other as the host. Here is where one waits. This is the trap one sets for evolution. There is something in sexual desire which is neither sexual nor found in sex itself. The immaterial essence is not different, not the same. Take away anticipatory compensatory habituation from the energy distilled in nonpsychological awareness inherent in the electricity of sex-consciousness and you have therein something primordial, unborn and undying. That's just another way of saying pick out the real from the matrix of the un-real. Or, forcing the Dragon and Tiger into mortal combat. Or, Fusing Water and Fire— ascend to Heaven in broad daylight. It is the joining of the two things. Look for the Mysterious Female. The valley spirit fills space, which is the body. It has no location. It's not the person, yet it is not separate either. In the space between desire and reason; glowing all along… If I take any material from the past, it is because I own it with respect to the forge of experience. What is most important in owning is that the earned vocabulary is authentically expressed for the sole purpose of keeping the knowledge alive by giving real examples of how it can be used in real-life situations. Otherwise, what is the point of wisdom? It's not old, nor is it new …it's just now that we write this book. I hope I have not spoken too long. So nice of you to comment, bbsoft.
  6. Three critical issues in Taoist alchemy

Hi Virtue! Earth is the center. This is intent. The go-between. Its number is 5. Its color is yellow. Earth itself is not elixir. Way of Virtue, I like your mentioning of the three fives. The way you describe fire and wood. Wood is also wind, and I like to think of prior spirit as Breath. As for water and metal: Water is the homeland of Metal. I understand metal as Sense/lead/true knowledge. I usually understand Spirit/essence as East 3, South 2 form a family. Things can get so convoluted; as far as a teaching/memnonic device the three fives is sublime. The point is the three fives work but the nomenclature itself isn't really the main thing. I must say that there is no school or tradition beyond yourself. The teacher is truly the center of your own body, which has no location. "Refer everything to the self." This self has no self. This is the basis, so Castañeda's and other wizardry/shamanic traditions equally apply.
  7. Eye of Horus

hahhahaa!!❤ The Art of War succinctly states that in order to live one must first position oneself on a ground of death. The uncarved block has no form, therefore it is useless. It is the same as never having been created. The ground of death enables formlessness; a singularity which cannot be manipulated. All its potential is intact and it has yet to act. As it is on a par with death, only the living can, will and must revert. I don't know that the symbolism of the teaching of the Eye of Horus is a parallel or comparable device. The construct of the Eye is a complex device possessing manifold application in commerce, wisdom, mores, mystery and magic. The unaccountable 1/64th in the eye's component values comes closest in equating the import of the uncarved block. The value in the function of the absent matrixes of the former compliment the valueless functionlessness of the concrete abstraction of the latter. Thanks for expressing the term, a kind of concrete absolute— that helped me with this post, Apech!
  8. Eye of Horus

"The mechanism is in the eyes"…found that in some taoist manual. And paraphrasing… "the body, the senses become one eye". Totality of self an eye. Concentrating vitality, extending like a ray, a line of light. There is velocity in this, and penetration. There is a body outside the body (is how you say there is a body in place of a body?). Now this zazen gets up without dwelling. At the right time and the right place, passing through between the wn and kheper with the collected totality of the self, without any idea whatsoever (the missing 1/64th not missing just not existent?). Perhaps return from freedom from ideas evolves toward actualization of the uncarved block of whole being without divisive habitual ideation? And of the akh's effectivity… to act There is knowledge and awareness of non-being (1/64th) which is the facilitation and catalyst of return to living function of wholeness of uncarved non-being being…? Like the best effective ego utility~ ultimately non-existent, yet positively functional.

  10. Is Karma a Taoist philosophy?

Hi John! If there is confusion about a fact, can you describe the source of confusion?
  11. Eye of Horus

Perhaps "akh" implies readiness (to act). This is not a disposition. I have read in a taoist text that what is most wonderful is on the verge of action …as in consciousness of the movement of awareness upon awaking from and falling asleep. It is movement itself. Awareness is moving, so the shift is seamless? Is it a shift in location …is location the difference? Is the difference in terms of time? So sleep is not a "thing" either? It is a shift? It is a movement. Don Juan Matus called it a shift in the assemblage point of a luminous being. For him too, the emphasis was on freedom, or more to the point, a feeling of fluidity, of equipoise, of readiness. Chapter One of the Chuang Tzu is titled "Freedom". Akh. To be effective. So this freedom is not for the sake of an ideal or a truth in the Greek, western philosophical sense— but the capacity to be ready to act on conditions without being constrained by conditions. Haha! Akh-tion! haha!! The proper effect of wu-wei in real-time… True spontaneity is non-kinetic movement. Non-karmic movement. Selflessness in akhtion. I'm not saying knowing or not; just saying readiness on the verge is zazen sometimes gets up and walks around. Spiritual immortality is akh's location? Sensing potential …happens. Gaps in terms of strategy are critical junctures; times occurring naturally requiring readiness to act effectively …freely. Gaps are voids. The time between sleeping and waking is such a gap, such a void, a vulnerability, an opportunity— a location. haha!

  14. To be sure

To Be Sure if I don't see it it's just that light isn't shining on it it's not that I don't see it it's just that intent has no locus it's not that light isn't shining it's just that the light is shining back on its origin it's not that there is no locus it's just that what isn't reflecting doesn't dwell so if certainty is deliberate there is bound to be confusion
  15. To be sure

Hi bob~ the context is manifold. (the bugs are locusts) hahahahhaaa!!❤ First, there is no location. Second, intent is open— that is, without discrimination— there is no object. Third, and because of this, dwelling~ in any context, has no function. It is a matter of exercising the light without indulging discriminatory reifications within the particular realm; of activating wordless sameness within difference. The whole buddhist canon is summarized in the statement, "Activate awareness without dwelling on anything." Enlightening qualities are equal, functioning in and out of time. So spiritual function has no connection with personality or words (in that there is no interference). The spirit is fully activated within everyday ordinary situations without implication. Locus implies a relativity. Reality is causeless, so there is no thing to come from (in all sincerity). Hence, intent without locus is just your own living awareness radiating regardless of conditions or lack thereof. As there is no locus, there is no way to posit dwelling. For example, to illustrate a subtlety of refinement, a dark space is filled with smoke. Even without the light, the smoke hurts your eyes. Without discussing the relativity of smoke/eyes, perception is degraded by its environment because eyes not only see, they feel— and that is not all they do: to quote an alchemical classic, "the mechanism is in the eyes". Now we turn on a beam of light. Now let's move the light. Does it matter what angle we shine the light? Is the smoke still smoke? If we point the light towards our eyes from across the space, off-axis slightly, the smoke is particularly distinct and contrasted by the backlit orientation towards our eyes. Isn't it fascinating to watch the eddies (the smoke is alive— not just an opacity). In addition, it is our own involvement with the smoke which agitates it! So just being aware of the light relieves suffering to a degree because we trade our oppression for wonder. But if we point the light directly into our eyes, we can't see the smoke anymore. We can't see anything. The same as when the room was dark. And it hurts to look into the light as well. Again, no different than before …but the pain is different— we know it's just us because light itself is un-attributable. We have discovered our state does not depend on conditions! We are no longer compelled to waste energy in our orientation toward externals. We begin to discover the power of true independence. Just this simple discovery affords us a great advantage over conditions because in fathoming objectivity it becomes a tool. Now we know light not being superior to darkness we can nevertheless use the light within darkness, without identifying with or denying either. This device transcends ages, realms and becoming.

How does all this relate to the un-carved block of wood? That may not be all that occult on the surface. Perhaps, But that is Apech's original premise. It's also not very juicy and exotic or even mysterious. It's just what it is. Whole. Complete. Unadulterated. Sure, the Eye of Horus teaching has all these parts to play with …but the similarity (Apech's thrust for this thread), would seem to be hinged on the essence of completeness. Would you care to tell us what you know about that, Cloudhand? If not, carry on, as your topic is interesting too❤
  17. Eye of Horus

Moving energy up or down doesn't matter, these are practices relating to energy or the science of life and the refinement and building up of primal vitality. Essence is the prime focus of alchemy of enlightened mind. The Eye of Horus teaching is highly symbolic. The fish ate his penis. Fish are notoriously unemotional creatures. It is the deliberate transformation (sacrifice) of one's sexual vitality towards impersonal (fishlike) totality (ocean) that one gains the magic penis (godhead). Of course, nothing is to be gained by enlightenment except the experience of the 1/64 symbolic of nonbeing. Wholeness is the knowledge of selfless living awareness. The fight in which Horus looses his eye is symbolic of rational consciousness (duality). The knowledge of good and evil is to know neither in everyday ordinary situations. Worldly issues do not apply. Purity is neither good nor bad. What a beautiful teaching the ancients gave us!

  22. Root Ball

ROOT BALL Without any style, but lots of pluck Seize the dead root— just call it luck. Filling ground zero is a nine foot hall—So Taking what's level you stand on it all Climbing past this, the flowers fall. High and dry, dead and taut Who can see what's finely wrought. Lumpy and rough, thick and stark No layers left, no piece of bark Bleakly gnarled, vaguely dark. Even and level, there's no way in The uncarved block is square and thin. Stand it on end— and no longer pretend Trust your balance there's nothing to mend The pedestal of dragons; beyond our ken. In the empty room held in space Holding the root and recalling the taste Audaciously climbing right into your arms The living thing suits you without any harm Vitality hails you, shamelessly charmed.
