  1. Tao Bums Forum - Growth and development

Things change or are changed. That's just the way of it.
  2. clumsy and ungraceful

Craig, I guess it depends on the age of the questioner. In a martial art vein I would suggest some type of long fist or something. But, really anything that is strenuous, enjoyable, and involves rhythm I think would suit nicely. I'm going to agree with Craig on "public" taiji. Most people try to think and feel rather than do. And most public teachers have no clue about shen fa. Any choreography is sufficient if you're not going to use structure.
  3. clumsy and ungraceful

Hi Craig, "While I agree that Taiji is the supreme ultimate" While obviously taiji has a literal meaning that is something like that, it doesn't mean that it is the "supreme ulitmate" martial art, obviously that depends on the practitioner. But if we look at the taiji symbol, I think Yin/Yang boxing would be a better translation.
  4. Iron Palm and Kunlun

"Once upon a time in China there was a fair and at one point some strong young men put on a show of punching and smashing watermellons. Then a tai chi master walked up to one of the mellons and and gave it a little slap and it didn't break. All the tough young men started snickering and making rude little comments. Then the tai chi master got out his pocket knife and cut a hole in the end of the watermellon and the insides poured out on the ground like liquid. Suddenly all the snickering stopped. THAT is vibrating palm." Or THAT is apocryphal.
  5. My own Ba Gua style

Not without years of training in an orthodox system. Why re-invent the wheel, Dong's students already did the job?
  6. The CST system

It's been done. However unless you have excellent structure and shen fa it's just going to load the shoulders. This leads to local tension and is counter productive to whole body power.

Brian and I have had our spats elsewhere (because we martial arts guys...go figure) but he is spot on with that post.

"You have been rude to most including a lady and to all those who have been polite to you. I know I am gonna get shouted at but I don't care. If you don't believe anything at all, why are you wasting your time here? Why are you spending your valuable time amidst a few delusional fools instead of being with some 'rationalists' group? You are not seeking answers and trying to learn anything here. What possibly can you from 'delusional' folks? So, if then your objective is to 'preach', then you should understand that the 'delusional' don't 'believe' in what you think is rational." I've only been rude in kind. Because most everyone uses fake names, it hard to tell anyone's gender, not that it would make any difference. "cat"'s replies to me were snide and sarcastic hiding behind a thin veneer of passive/aggressiveness. People don't like to have their faith questioned, I get that. This board, since I've been here, has gone from the quibbles between the various HT factions, to the John Chang parlor tricks, to the David Verdesi cult, and now to the Lama Thunderbolt phase. Then in jumps Steve or starjumper or whomever. When "winpro" took me up on a challenge, I let my contention about Max go (for the most part) until I can take him/her up on the offer. You don't believe in things rational? I don't believe that for a moment. But you want me to believe in fantastical claims just on someone's say so. That sounds awful cultish to me and I ain't buying it. Give me some evidence and I'll consider it. I can't help but wonder when the next demi-god for someone to worship will show up here. RE: sending me neigong...send it, I'll take a look. Regarding my time with my teachers, it's already on here. I think folks are getting the wrong impression about me because they fear my skepticism. When I ask questions they can't or won't answer, it's my fault. Fair enough, I'll leave this thread be but I stand by everything I've written.

Don't be an ass. You don't like my skepticism, tough shit.

Ian, "I don't think anyone really wants Buddy to admit the truth of anything that he hasn't experienced. But I think people would like Buddy to admit that some things outside his experience might be possible, because he might not know everything." I never used the word delusional. I know there are "more things on heaven and earth, than are dreampt of in" my philosophy. And like I've said, I've learned things that were formerly outside my experience. I didn't even have a basis of understanding them, let alone do them. Now I can. I admit I don't know everything, but I know a lot of things. But if folks are going to make the claim of having magical powers then I'm going to say "prove it". If someone is asking me to believe someone can break the laws of physics, I'm not going to fall for it. Why would I just go on someone's say so, particularly some anonymous moniker on an internet board? I would be happy to be proven wrong. More than happy. And I wait patiently until that day, just not without a healthy skepticism.

"People that are agog with misunderstanding and simply are unable to comprehend such matters without resorting to cartoon imagery perhaps could find entertainment back on their TV sets instead of amongst more experienced people." Your passive/aggressiveness is amusing but your thinking is wrong headed, again. I understand completely that folks who think qigong is sorcery are barking up some fantastical tree. You continue to avoid the need for you to prove any of your silly assertions. I've been doing this for, I bet, longer than you, with well known teachers. I've learned very interesting things. But NONE of it is magic. You don't seem to be able to understand that if you make claims that you have no evidence for (beyond some childish "because I say so") you have to be expected to be called on it. But no, you want to live in some place where unicorns and sorcerers are real. Not surprising really.

  14. Annoying people

"Each forum has it's own character. There are plenty of forums where there are big crowds of over eager youngsters who don't like to hear the voice of experience and it is guaranteed that some will attack it every time. It's sad, but I don't think anything can be done about it." My god, you are a stuffed shirt. I'm 50 and I think you are a bullying puss.

"hi Buddy. Again, speaking for myself, one of the reasons it is a relief to me to come to this forum, is because there are a lot of people here who have experienced things that are out of the ordinary. we can speak freely to one another here." I have experienced things I didn't previously have a basis for understanding. But now I do. It's not magic. "I am not invested in being believed by you and not willing to spend time proving anything to you." Well this is quite convenient. You want me to prove something but when it's turned back on you, you demure. It's always this same cop out. I call you on your horse shit and you get offended. "I dont feel that the onus is on anyone here to prove themselves to you, instead of having the information exchange /conversation that they came here for." Nor did I ask them to except when asked to myself...but that was just you. You decided you wanted to jump my skepticism and that's fine. But you can't take the heat. Sorry, it's your problem not mine. "That would be making their time here become about pleasing/educating you, instead of being fruitful for them." Then I would say to them don't make claims in public you can't back up. I didn't ask anyone for proof, you did. "I feel the onus is on you to go and get educated about what you find inconceivable about what we have have experienced." What you claim you experience. For all I know you're mentally ill. I don't know you and I don't believe your claims. It's on you to prove it or shut up about what you think I know. I'm not the one making these silly claims about what I've "experienced." I'm very happy to prove, in person, what I know. I'm very open minded and I am very hopeful about human potential. But don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining. And I'm not going to be lectured to by some faceless, nameless internet moniker. I'm an open book here. I've given my real name and even address to anyone who thinks they can prove me wrong or themselves right. I'm fine with being shown the errors of my ways. But it hasn't happened yet. The onus is on you. And I don't think you're up for it. If this site wants to be just a self congratulatory cult then count me out. But make it so and not public. Until then expect me to call you on your unsubstantiated claims.

"For myself, I would appreciate it if, when you are scoffing in disbelief at what someone is saying, you could make clear your evidence that supports your disbelief, or else own your own ignorance and admit that your disbelief is without factual foundation." Don't be silly, one cannot prove a negative. Beliefs need to proven not disbeliefs. Prove to me any of this crap really exists.

Buddy I am wishing you had a sig - line which said upfront: "I dont believe a lot of Stuff, and dont know anything about what I dont believe in, either. I'm here to tell you all you're delusional, even though I have no evidence to support this belief." It would make your position clear from the outset." It's not my position. I don't think all of you are delusional. Just because you want to believe in nonsense (without any supporting evidence) doesn't mean I don't know anything about it. I'm just not interested in sharing the fantasy.

"I'll bet Frantzis never told you about the time he met Feng Zhiqiang =) My Chen teacher's teacher." Are you serious? He not only told me, he wrote about the womping Feng gave him. "The spot that my body occupies where I sit at my desk is highly energized. My teacher leaves energy trails where he walks and sensitive people can follow these trails. Go ahead, call me a liar, I'm sure you're an expert on what you don't know and haven't experienced." I don't think you're a liar because I think you believe it. I just think it's BS. "Well there's no doubt that Max lies a lot. I have analyzed this situation with Max and realized some things." I've already said what I have to say about Max. But you've "realized some things." "You like to cover a lot of bases, don't you! I think you would have to pay them instead because it appears that most of them can only do it to students who have been with them for awhile. The reason for this is mysterious and attributable to things you do not believe in. You will attribute it to what you do believe in, dishonesty." You've lost me here. Let me be succinct. It's BS and not one of them could do it to me.

"How many martial arts do you know that are named after a person? I only know one." Really? Hung gar-Hung Haygung... and ALL the southern five family styles Yue Boxing-after Yueh Fei. Chenjia Taijiquan Yangjia Taijiquan Wujia Taijiquan Haojia Taijiquan Sunjia Taijiquan Fujia Baguazhang Cheng Style Baguazhang Yin Style baguazhang Gao style Baguazhang (my style)....I could go on. Maybe you need to read more ('member that advice?) That said, I did some research on this teacher...I know people. He seems to be the real deal martial-wise...I don't think he's the end all...maybe a nan tonglong guy. But you made a couple of hyperbolic claims that you edited out and that's kind of hinky for me. I'm not gonna brag about my teacher, he's quite well known for his skill. Your neigong? A channel of qi or something like that in your house? BS. And to whomever talked about healing from a distance? I still have the sciatica, so that's BS too. THAT said, I still doubt what everyone claims about this Max guy, too. But at least someone stepped up and said they'd show me and even pay for my opportunity. We'll see if that really happens. Gongfu is real and can be shown quite readily. I'll give a thousand dollars to anyone who can move me with this so called empty force. "Top level big bad martial artists have come from around the country and allowed to try to punch Dave and they all end up on the floor looking like the 'victim' in the videos. Sometimes it's difficult to keep from bursting out laughing, just to give you an idea of how good Dave is (don't ask, he only accepts referrals)." So, if I have someone I know see if Dave can "mop the floor" with him, would Dave be cool with that?
