Yes sorry I figured it would require that. He is a bit stubborn I don't know if I could drag him to one. When he was 20 he gave one of his kidneys to his dying father. His father rejected it and both his father and kidney died. He really has let himself go after his wife left him, he eating way too much fried food, not exercising, depression. He is extremely overweight, and has had many complications do to that. I feel bad for him, I wish there was something I could do to help. I've discussed exercise, diet changes, neigong, and meditation, spring forest qigong, etc to help him get back in control of himself. He seems interested but won't follow any serious regimen. I have recommended green tea extract, cinnamon, and b vitamins, as well as lots of fresh fruits, and vegetables, and restrictions on meats and cheeses, and greasy foods, and carbohydrates. He doesn't seem to like the idea of that too much. I just wish he would care more about himself I guess, anyway... thanks everyone for the advice. -matt

I think you guys missed the point of the parable, but thats ok too. I'm personally not in favor of the million dollars myself either.

If given a choice between a million dollars and achieving enlightenment: Choose the million dollars, because you will be there to enjoy it. If you achieve enlightenment, there will be no one there, to enjoy anything.

Have a happy b-day you geezer

an anxiety attack sounds like an imbalance with your upper chakra's especially your heart chakra. Get into a luke warm shower and sit there feeling all the anxiety draining out and into the water. Feel, dont visualize it. This is a basic grounding meditation, make sure the drain is open and the water can flow away. Also the herb KAVA as a drink not as a pill is great for anxiety and panic attacks. Also you don't really need to be taught in person if you are a sincere student. There are lots of courses available online and sometimes for free. Spring Forest Qigong 1-4, Ken Cohens course, Robert Peng, Robert Bruce, Lots of great books, I recommend: All books by Robert Bruce, especially his newest: Energy Work The Tao of Meditation: Way to Enlightenment by Tsung Hwa Jou Pillars of Bliss by Lama Dorje The Secret of the Golden Flower (available online I think)

If we don't blow up in the next 50 years, we may very well see the singularity.

I don't know if there are any other geeks out there. Everyone knows how insecure windows is, viruses, spyware, government back doors (yes its true). It is a cess pit, and I don't trust it to do online banking etc. So I switched to linux a long time ago. Ubuntu has been my favorite brand, until now. Mint is based off of ubuntu, but has all the nifty things which ubuntu cannot include do to ethical/legal reasons. All the things like Flash, adobe PDF, Java, Mp3/divx/Quicktime/Real support, etc... etc.. etc.. it is gorgeous, and quicker than XP, also it runs tons of windows software using an emulator: ElderScolls4 Oblivion, Diablo2, Everquest, World Of Warcraft, Lots of FPS too. Each year it keeps getting better. Give it a shot sometime if your bored! Message me for support if you need it!!! http://www.linuxmint.com/

Asking who you are is indeed bullshit, asking what you are is more profound.

well the natives who grew tobacco didn't seem to get lung cancer. Tobacco absorbs radioactive elements from artificial fertilizers and delivers the amount of radiation of 10 chest xrays per year per cigarette/day. So if you smoked 1 and 1/2 packs a day for a year it would be like 300 chest xrays worth of radiation exposure. http://www.cannabisculture.com/articles/2221.html

so taking just potassium chloride as a salt substitute would be beneficial?

my advice would be to try it on another person who doesn't know what your doing, as a double blind test. Some people are very susceptible to suggestion, and may display a placebo effect. If you try it on another person who is unaware of your intentions and they report some feeling perhaps you do indeed have some degree of power. I highly recommend you read up on robert bruce http://www.astraldynamics.com/download/NEW-V2.pdf Trance meditation, is the key the deeper you can go the better. also feeling the flows of energy are key, you do not want to visualize, you want to feel.

I was wondering if any bums here could recommend the best translations for the six yogas of naropa, and or online information on them. Thanks

I had a dream a few years ago where I was talking to a man about ascension. He laughed at me and said if I really wanted to ascend I should run a wire from a deep stake at the bottom of the mountain, to the top and sit on a metal plate connected to it. Then I should fly a balloon tethered by a copper wire, as high as I could and attach that to my head. I simply wrote this off as another one of my crazy dreams I have, I have a lot it seems. I get lots of weird advice like learning to eat gravity and other seemingly nonsense stuff. In my discussions with more advanced neigong practitioners, one thing however has come to light, which makes me wonder. It is absolutely 100% essential to meditate while connected sitting on a grounded surface. Grounded metal objects, or physically touching the earth is 100% essential. This is one thing I have been over looking, and not doing, and perhaps it is the reason for my very slow progress. It makes me wonder though, perhaps my crazy dream wasn't so crazy. I am not suggesting anyone here try it as it might wind up in a lightning strike, and death, but man it sure makes me wonder.

The goal of deep breathing practice is to slow your metabolism down. Your body goes into hibernation. You do not require as much oxygen as you used too. The goal should be to feel completely comfortable breathing only a few times per minute, if it is not comfortable your body has not shut down. I would not worry about hypoxia, unless your forcing your breath to be less than your body is telling you it requires.
-
Well I sometimes substitute trance for sleep, with no ill effects. Sometimes I will meditate for 5 hours per night and then go to bed to sleep 3-4 more hours. Trance is simply learning to slow your metabolism down, and enter a deep kind of torpor, almost like hibernation. Your body is asleep but your mind is fully awake. Sometimes I use Centerpointe's first level CD to help achieve a deep trance. I highly recommend you read some of robert bruce's work. http://www.astraldynamics.com/download/NEW-V2.pdf New Energy Ways is a good primer. If your trance is deep enough you can feel the flows of energy inside your own body and inside of others also, it is all related to how deep you can go. If you focus on intense sexual desire and pleasure your chi will take on those characteristics. You can then use chi like an appendage it will follow your will like an extension of your physical body if your trance is deep enough. You can then attach this appendage to the nerve center(s) you wish to stimulate, and pump your chi (which carries your emotion and intention) along these never centers as the flow up the spine and into the brain. Some things to keep in mind is to forget about your perspective and focus on the other person, what it would feel like for them and not you. You want to forget about your own existence as much as possible, and drift off into a deep trance. Also I believe this can be modified for pain, and blockages for healing. I use this same technique on myself when I have pain or headaches or sickness. I don't really get sick anymore, I actively fight it off with this type of qigong.

If you ever achieved enlightenment, how would you know you hadn't simply gone insane? I don't think it would be possible to make that distinction unless you had the ability to understand and control reality at a higher level than non enlightened "normal people". I guess more than anything, I seek power as a litmus test for insanity. If you claim enlightenment and cannot back it up with a few fireworks your no better than your local time traveling, alien humping, drunken homeless bum. As a matter of fact stating you have achieved enlightenment is enough for them to lock you away for a a few weeks in a mental home until your unenlightened again. I'm sorry I just don't seeing a modern day Buddha allowing some punks to straight jacket them, I just don't think he or she would put up that. A lot of people here criticize those who seek power, and refer to them as megalomaniacs and juveniles etc, but there are some of us who only want power to liberate ourselves. A few of us realize this world isn't real and we don't seek to control a dream.
-
Well I hoped I had made a distinction between power to control other people, and gain material wealth, and the power to liberate yourself, and help others do the same. I guess I didn't though.
-
I can see that, if thats what I was supposed to do I guess I would do it also. But I wouldn't expect someone else to seriously believe I was enlightened unless I could show them for certain I was. Thats the only point I am trying to make. There are a lot of people with a lot of opinions I try to focus on the ones who have some degree of power, because in my mind they are doing something right. I feel I have said way more than was needed, in defense of my viewpoints. I am going to bow out of this thread. Sorry for rambling so much
