  1. The book deals a lot with Master Lin's belief system. He talks about the yin spirit, the yang spirit, and the soul and how they are all different. It talks about methods of fasting, and opening your third eye and helping to heal people with advanced ailments like cancer and kidney issues, color healing. Etc. Over all it was worth the purchase for me just for the interesting read.
  2. Our Story

I'm sorry about my last post, I'm just getting frustrated trying to help you. If you want my help with your computer please empty your cup of knowledge, because its quite stale. You blame a lot on this other person but honestly it sounds to me more like your just inexperienced in doing advanced tasks on the the computer which isn't abnormal for most people. I think you should take about 20 deep breaths and smoke a big J and do some peaceful meditation, blank out for a while and chillax. You need a pair of needle nose pliers to reset your cmos if its pasword protected. There is a clear cmos jumper on your motherboard. Alternately you can remove the bios battery and let it sit for about ten minutes. (if your opening your computer case make sure you unplug your power cable first) That is assuming its password protected, if it isn't you hit a key like delete or F2 or whatever key is appropriate for your bios, once inside the bios you can reset to defaults. Next you need a new linux disk, you boot to it instead of from the hard drive. http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/linuxmint.com/sta...LinuxMint-6.iso You can use your favorite burning software to burn the iso file to a disk. I recommend linux mint, its based off ubuntu and it has all the extra features pre-installed and configured and has a nicer looking interface to boot. Now about your root password, when you install ubuntu or ubuntu derivatives like linux mint. You choose a login and password. This password is used to give programs root access to your computer It is required each time you start your computer to log into it, so make sure you write down your username and password and keep it in a safe place where you wont forget it. Now when and if you reinstall linux on your machine, you need to delete all partitions and start over from scratch. Unless you have data that needs to be backed up first.
  3. Mak, I need a FU to help me overclock my processor to 42Ghz, do you think you can help me?
  4. gossamer, Lets talk about facts and reality here. Linux has fewer viruses than Mac OS, and Windows, thats a fact. Any time an exploit in linux is discovered the kernel is patched to protect against it. If you keep your system updated you will get the patch to your system a lot sooner than you would from microsoft or apple with a comparable exploit. Linux is open source meaning that thousands of IT professionals examine the code every day looking for and patching security exploits/holes when they find them. It is vastly more secure than either windows or Mac OS. Due to its open source nature and fast security patches, the likelihood of being infected by a trojan or other virus is much less than on a windows machine or a mac. Fundamentally linux is written to be more secure than windows or even mac, all software installations or viruses REQUIRE you the user to input your password in order to install them. Assuming you download software only from your distrobutions default repositories, and or trusted sources, your likelihood of catching a virus is next to zero. For you to be infected with a virus on linux would require you downloading suspect packages and manually installing them yourself requiring you to type in your root password. Ubuntu is not the least secure version of linux, I am not sure where you get your information from. Security is top priority for the ubuntu team. I want to pick apart every virus you listed via wikipedia, I might do that later although I am sure your not going to listen as you think an old version of mac os which has thousands of viruses written for it is some how more secure than linux.

Gossimer, I can't help you. It's obvious you have know clue at all what your talking about on the linux front, yet believe you do. I'm sorry my friend, I'm not going to argue and fight to try and help you when you already "know" better than I do.

  8. Kitchen God - God to worship for FUK

I worship the kitchen goddess for FUK, I would advise other married people to do the same.
  9. Our Story

Just a note, if you switch over your main computer to linux, and you still have infected windows computers on your network, they can do packet analysis and injection over your network. So he still could read anything you send out that isn't encrypted using something like wireshark. The amount of time this man must invest in you is considerable.
  10. Our Story

The problem I see is this guy has to know your ip address to be able to hack you, so unless your computer has a trojan of some sort phoning home every time you reconnect to the internet with a new ip address (I'm assuming you have dynamic ip, not a static ip like most people) then he needs to know your ip address to get access to you computer. Just one infected computer on your network would work for this purpose. Also he needs a way in, if your behind a hardware firewall like a router (and its firmware is up to date) and your computer doesn't have a trojan on it, allowing access from that angle then first he would need to know your ip address, then he would have to hack your router and then your pc, the level of knowledge and skill to do something like that is just insane. I don't believe such a person would be wasting their time on you, to be frank. I recommend switching to dsl, and linux. Keep your routers firmware updated, keep linux updated. If you still get hacked then just give up, your dealing with an enemy who has god like power.
  11. Our Story

Is Mediacom high speed internet your isp? If you have cable I recommend switching to dsl, because some cable networks are shared sometimes you can access resources of others on the network if they didn't set it up correctly. Also how do you know he has access to their servers are you just taking his word for it? If your running linux and have a hardware firewall in place like a router, and you keep its firmware up to date, and you keep your linux distribution up to date, and install the new version of the distribution that comes out every six months, and this guy can still hack in... That man is a god amongst men. If you have someone with an axe to grind against you, and he has that level of skill, just give up. disconnect your home dsl connection. There is nothing you can do. Use random library computers, or get a laptop with ubuntu and use it only at free wifi spots. Maybe your attributing a lot of this hacking to hardware failures, or perhaps your running windows and your eaten alive with spyware and trojans that give anyone with a port scanner access to your computer. I've seen a lot of people get their credit card numbers stolen off a computer infested with trojans, I've seen them have their email accounts hacked, myspace, facebook, everquest, wow, paypal. I know thats possible. I don't see how one person could have so much power, unless he has physical access to your hardware.
  12. So you just print this up, or do you need to write it yourself?
  13. Our Story

Sure I wouldn't mind helping, but rather than me fixing it and reformatting it I'd rather teach you how to do it with linux mint. That way you knew how to do it in the future, as I am not going to be around for too much longer. When my preparations are complete I am leaving on a 4-5 year retreat to meditate and practice neigong.
  14. Our Story

I don't know your computer situation, but I would recommend using a router as a hardware firewall. Most DSL providers give you a basic router with your service. If you use PPPOE or anything like that where you have a direct connection to the internet, you really need a piece of hardware acting as a firewall. If you are using linux and a hardware firewall and you have no windows machines on your network, and you keep your linux up to date, and you still get hacked that man is a God just go head and give up and go Amish. I am beginning to wonder perhaps if you might be having lots of hardware failure issues and just attributing them to hacking as you have been hacked in the past. I could see that happening. Getting hacked running linux behind a hardware firewall from a guy who doesn't even know your ip address, I don't see that happening.
  15. Our Story

I'm sorry dude, I don't believe you when you say he hacked you on ubuntu. Please don't take it personal. http://www.linux.com/feature/131059 If the top black hat hackers at defcon can't do it, then I seriously doubt this guy could. They shot down vista and the new Mac OS with ease but not ubuntu. I still recommend you use linux on your PCs, if at all possible as its vastly more secure than windows. If your really savvy maybe something like freebsd or open solairs would be harder to hack as its more obscure than mainstream linux. Also I hope things improve for you, my thoughts are with you. Pehaps spend some time doing emptiness meditation. I recommend the spring forest qigong course, and the tao of meditation (the book).
  16. lostmonk, Arch is great, I like the rolling release deal it has going for it. However for a nooby, linux mint is the best out of the box experience linux has to offer at the moment I believe. P.S. I like your new avatar/pic where did you find that? I'm curious can you tell my pic is of a frying pan with an egg in it?
  17. Passing the hat around for Gossamer

    I'll chip in $5.00 also
  18. Linux mint is awesome, flash, dvd codecs, java, divx, mp3 xvid all that good stuff installed and configured for you, it also has a nicer interface than ubuntu.
  19. PS CS4 "Gold" http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?...n&iId=14318 Dream Weaver CS4 "Platinum" http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?...n&iId=14343 I heard that Flash CS4 Is platinum on the newest wine version too, but cant find any documentation on it. Final Cut is Mac isn't it? As for your custom windows programs, you can always run them inside of a virtual machine and get them to work. Virtualbox lets you Install a copy of windows inside of linux. I've got some old dos games running in linux... how geeky is that XD I see where your coming from though, if I had to run all those programs on a daily basis, it would get frustrating, having to reinstall and tweak them every six months when a new version of linux came out.
  20. Smile, What software do you run? You might be able to use virtualbox to install a copy of XP inside of linux and run it that way if wine wont do it for you. Also you might want to consider picking up a cheap used laptop on ebay after the xmas rush is over and everyone sells there old laptops. You could format the laptop with linux and use it for all secure credit card transactions, and paypal, ebay financial stuff. I buy used 1.5+Ghz machines with 512MB of ram, and 40+GB hard drives, DVD/CD-RW, and wireless for about $160 with shipping, and I turn around and reformat them with linux and sell them for $225 at the store where I work. I move them as fast as I can get them.
  21. Antivir is good, but the interface is absolute shit, I can't stand looking at that gui XD I would never install antivir on someone's system I know is computer illiterate. I still recommend avg, its never done me wrong. I put it on all the pc's I have to maintain for family and extended family, without any spyware problems.
  22. gossamer, your much better off with linux than you ever will be with windows. http://www.linux.com/feature/131059 I've been using linux for years and been apart of the community too I've never seen or even heard of an infection from a linux virus. That list of viruses you listed is but a handful, there are tens of thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands or millions even for windows. Also there are antivirus programs for linux like clamav or avg if your really paranoid.
