Dzogchen is tantra. Ever heard of the 17 tantras? When ChNN and Bon people contrast Dzogchen with tantra they are talking about them in terms of vehicles.
-
With minimal searching, you should understand Dudjom Rinpoche has an entire book devoted to comparing and contrasting the Nyingma yanas.
-
Yes, for example Dudjom Rinpoche says the Menngagde is superior to Longde and Semde. Dudjom Rinpoche supports this point of view by citing the Supreme Array of Ati (a ti bkod pa chen po): 0 Vajrapani! If the Pith Instruction Class is not established, There will be those who cling to deliberate examination [Mind Class], And in particular, those who will believe in nothing at all [Vast Expanse Class]. Therefore, this definitive secret essence [Pith Instruction Class]- Like a butter lamp amid darkness, Like an elephant among oxen, Like a lion among wild animals, Or like a horseman among those on foot- Is superior to them all.

Dudjom Rinpoche's whole red book is about comparing the Nyingma yanas in specific detail. http://www.amazon.com/The-Nyingma-School-Tibetan-Buddhism/dp/0861711998 Dudjom Rinpoche was a mystical terton who finished the entire path to completion. http://thetaobums.com/topic/32153-mystical-buddhist-readings/ Even his students such as KDL finished the entire path to completion.

Yes it has several important translations
-
This is the thickest collection of Dzogchen tantras and termas on the market: http://www.amazon.com/Wellsprings-Great-Perfection-Erik-Kunsang/dp/9627341819 The book is atleast a couple of inches thick.

yes
-
The highest are termas.

That youtube video in the thread is hilarious. A must watch.
-
Because it is based on tantras, has empowerments etc.
-
Of course Dzogchen is Buddhadharma. What kind of question is that? Dzogchen, is a part of Vajrayana from the viewpoint of classification. But in terms of path, its a different path than Vajrayana.
-
Fine. No problem. Gelugpas don't teach Dzogchen though, which is my main interest.
-
By the way, lineage means authorized to teach. If you are not authorized to teach, you have no lineage.

Really? Dudjom Rinpoche: "The eight lower levels have intellectually fabricated and contrived that which is changeless solely due to fleeting thoughts that never experience what truly is. They apply antidotes to and reject that which is not to be rejected. They refer to as flawed that in which there is nothing to be purified, with a mind that desires purification. They have created division with respect to that which cannot be obtained by their hopes and fears that it can be obtained elsewhere. And they have obscured wisdom, which is naturally present, by their efforts in respect to that which is free from effort and free from needing to be accomplished. Therefore, they have had no chance to make contact with genuine, ultimate reality as it is (rnal ma'i de kho na nyid)."

You think I'm more important that autobiographies by Dudjom Lingpa, Jigme Lingpa etc.? Wow I'm flattered ralis

Tantra has all sorts of features that are not in sutra. Like channels in the body, what happens during death etc. I am sure the list is pretty long.
-
Noone wants to read my personal experience. Just like ChNN tells people, 'don't email me about your dreams people'.

Tantra is based on tantras and dohas, which are classes of literature Sutra is based on sutras, which is another class of literature
-
Tantra is based on tantras and dohas. Sutra is based on sutras
-
Its called interlibrary loan
-
Tantra downplays the notion of causal efficacy.
-
Sutra, like Madhyamaka, is slightly realist (Buddhist definition)
