  1. Buddhists forum vs Vedanta forum

India has been westernized for hundreds of years. India was a British colony, not to mention the other European countries.
  2. Isn't Khenpo Ngawang Pelzang recommending practices akin to those found in Pure Land Buddhism? Don't tertons experience all sorts of Pure Lands in their lives?
  3. So is the western Abrahamic media ignoring this? I don't see this on the frontpage of CNN etc.

  5. Will the Abrahamic biased western media cover this?

  7. A Path To Enlightenment

Recognize that the instant of unfabricated freshness (ma bcos shes pa skad cig ma) is overlaid by the conceptualizing mind.
  8. Not everyone in the world is an Atiyoga practitioner, let alone a dedicated one. I agree that in Atiyoga, doing rushan will ensure rebirth in a Pure Land.
  9. Khenpo Ngawang Pelzang, who is one of the greatest masters of the Longchen Nyingthig, says: "Practice aspiration transference all the time, when you are eating, sleeping, walking or sitting: using the three images, keep your awareness constantly focused above your head and recite: Buddha Amitabha, I pray to you, Bless me that I may be reborn in the Pure Land of Bliss." -----A Guide to the Words of My Perfect Teacher So you can see that Dzogchenpas recommend practices very much like Pure Land Buddhism.
  10. Wirathu: The Face Of Buddhist Terrorism

Read "A Guide to the Words of My Perfect Teacher" and other similar books such as "A Torch Lighting the Way to Freedom", which dumb down Buddhism.
  11. Wirathu: The Face Of Buddhist Terrorism

Ridiculous. Wirathu is engaging in defensive action against Islamic atrocties. Why would he call himself Bin Laden, who was the perpetuator of such Islamic atrocities?
  12. Wirathu: The Face Of Buddhist Terrorism

Are you not a suffering human being yourself? Learn Buddhadharma, end your own suffering, and then maybe you can help others. Who is ignoring others? I already said the starting point of Mahayana is the bodhisattva motivation to become an omniscient Buddha to benefit infinite sentient beings. This motivation is key throughout all of Vajrayana.
  13. Wirathu: The Face Of Buddhist Terrorism

    Dudjom Rinpoche.
  14. Wirathu: The Face Of Buddhist Terrorism

Right, you have no understanding. That's the problem. You are supposed to work on your own suffering first and become an omniscient Buddha.
  15. Wirathu: The Face Of Buddhist Terrorism

I didn't say Milarepa was a scholar. But Milarepa was highly educated in Buddhism. In Indo-Tibetan Vajrayana, you are supposed to: 1) receive full teachings 2) become a lay person (if not one already), go to a cave etc. and put teachings into practice. So everyone in Tibetan Buddhism rags on scholars, not just Milarepa.
  16. Wirathu: The Face Of Buddhist Terrorism

The Mahayana goal is to become an omniscient Buddha, so that you may benefit infinite sentient beings.
  17. Wirathu: The Face Of Buddhist Terrorism

Noone can damn anyone to hell in Buddhism. If you wind up in hell, that's your own karma (action).
  18. Is Buddhism atheistic?

    that's hot
  19. Is Buddhism atheistic?

    Zeus doesn't have previous lives.
  20. Is Buddhism atheistic?

I think I took about 3 Greek myth courses in college.
  21. Wirathu: The Face Of Buddhist Terrorism

Padmasambhava is not a historical character. He is a terma character and/or manifestation of a tertons' own wisdom.
  22. Is Buddhism atheistic?

It depends on the definition of deities. Indian deities are rather different than western deities. Rebirth and all that.
  23. Wirathu: The Face Of Buddhist Terrorism

Milarepa was a highly educated Buddhist. He studied with multiple teachers even before his intensive studying with Marpa. Brunnholzl notes: "His familiarity with advanced Buddhist terminology and concepts can be seen in many of his vajra songs."
