Now there's a porpoise with a purpose!! edit: Except that's a whale, i think...lol
-
That we do! Did your post have no purpose? This post of mine does - to thank you for making your purposeless post.
-
Just confirming: What you mean is going from having to be frugal - to choosing to be frugal. Yes?

Ohhhh...my apologies, Mig. I am not Daoist, and should have said so right away.
-
And other things just beg for attention, lol.

Hi - As I type in the reply box - a little prompt always pops up on top of everything and it says: Enter your text; hold ctrl and right click for more options The options are for Pasting something, with or without formatting... and appears all the time - even when I'm not trying to paste anything. Is there any way to turn that prompt off? Thanks!

Yes and very well said! (-:

Brilliant tale, Joe, and clearly Parrhasios won. Zeuxis's painting only fooled a bird. (-:

Dang. Oh well. Thanks!

What role does faith play in the taoist perspective?
rene replied to Boundlesscostfairy's topic in Daoist Discussion
Ditto that! I have faith in my belief that what I experience is processed according to my nature...which means I may or may not hit the tree next time. Who knows? -
Yay! Maybe now you can let go of needing to defend your position! And this thread can get back to its original purpose. (-:

Knock yourself out, lady?? Wow. There was nothing disparaging in my post to you; we each have our own way. Does your path not require much energy and effort? Did I suggest there was something wrong with that?? LOL We each have our own way; you sure seem to have contempt for other's ways - and I leave you gently to it. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have toenails to clip.

Hi Mig - Yes, that's from The Laozi - Chapter 33 - here is the Feng/English version: Knowing others is wisdom; Knowing the self is enlightenment. Mastering others requires force; Mastering the self needs strength. He who knows he has enough is rich. Perseverance is a sign of willpower. He who stays where he is endures. To die but not to perish is to be eternally present. ************ Everybody gets to decide what their own 'enough' is. Others might think they need fancy clothes, expensive toys, big houses, etc - my needs are small. A friend a long time ago said she felt guilty about owning a stereo (yes, it was a looong time ago lolol) - but my thinking is, it's not so much what someone owns but rather their relationship to it. Is it so important to have a stereo that you'd work extra hours away from your kids to pay for it? So yes, we need money, to meet our needs. Having small needs means needing less money. Extra money can be for fun things! Things that can be let go of, if the extra money goes away. Everything you own - also owns you. One of my favorite sayings is: The more roof you own, the more headache you have.

No one's position or stance, Members or Mods, needed justifying or defending here, in this thread. Nor did the specific subject matter need to be revealed - it was intentionally kept out; surely you noticed that. Did you feel attacked in this thread? <-That's a rhetorical question, already answered by your post. We each have our own preferences and way; and it seems I'm no less inclined to promote the ideas of Laozi than you are of your systems and beliefs. The difference between us might be that your path seems to require much energy and effort; mine just floats in the Tao. Best regards

Thanks for your reply, Seatle; I didn't think that a ban was being considered, just a review. Being a Mod isn't easy and choices are hard sometimes. Even though I used it for an example, my gentle nudge wasn't about this case specifically (nor is this thread) - but rather so that TDB hopefully keeps being as close to it's own source - as possible.

I like what LiEhr said - Whoever knows he has enough is already rich. For me, 'enough' is food & shelter - and that I have. (-:

Thank you LimA! Here is one for you! What I like about this one - is that most of the unsuspecting people also knew the song (as do I) for it was taught in every high school choir for decades and sung at their Christmas programs - so they sang along!! It will also show you what everyday people at the mall over here are like. (there might be a short advertisement at the very beginning, easily ignored/skipped) Enjoy! and then go get some sleep, lol. Dream true! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXh7JR9oKVE

Hi LimA, Just so you know - all the pictures and videos you add in your posts take up a lot of bandwidth, are sometimes very slow loading, and in all cases make it difficult to read your words. If you could limit them to none or one per post? That would really help! But if you cant, or dont want to, that's okay; no harm no foul - and I have other options.

Beautifully vivid, new friend. I think we all come to a place in our lives where we reflect on our own tomb, and all the things behind us now and all the things that may still lie ahead... For me, reflection when done without fear seems to bring the most peace. Thank you for sharing yours. (-:

Welcome Tombartifacts, nice to have you here.

What I'm talking about has nothing to do with those pictures; they ^^ are part of a path I don't follow.

Are you somewhere Tao is not?

Nina is unforgettable I notice her forum is gone. Is her translation still online? If so, I'll find it, and the LinYutang as well, guessing terebess is a good place to look. I had a chance to review the thread titles in this Section; I'll use the Mair ones for anything I cant resist saying, lol; likely I'll just click the heart or sad from time to time - to express agreement or disagreement - without further unnecessary comment. I still think ZZ is extraneous to LZ, at least I think I still think that. Time will tell, and I remain open minded. Thanks!
