It's possible that .. <add your own conspiracy theory> It's not a conspiracy of liberal elites that are after Trump. Its the conservative movement too. The heart, soul and elder statesmen of conservative thought are against Trump. Not because they're part of an illuminati, not because they're following orders. He's just a really bad candidate. During the primaries polls showed Hillary beating Trump 51 to 39. And losing big to John Kasich and very close races with the other leading contenders. Trump ran his campaign like a reality show, full of insults and intrigue, it worked. But not to Republicans benefit.

BREAKING: Michael Moore Admits Trump Is Right
thelerner replied to NorthWide's topic in The Rabbit Hole
I think Moore is doing what Limbaugh did 8 years ago, telling his audience that he's going to vote for Obama. Honestly I was listening at the time. Ofcourse he ended up admitting it was his 'joke' to motivate his listeners to do the opposite. Maybe the same dynamics here. Limbaugh and Moore are probably more similar then they'd admit, masters of bombastic exaggeration. Come to think of it, Family Guy did a show that revealed they were the same person.- 7 replies

Is it immoral to tell people who they are?
thelerner replied to Drifting_Through_Infinity's topic in General Discussion
Might be a little arrogant, especially if you don't know the person well. We see only a certain side of a person. Not much more then a photograph, only a tiny slice of who they are. Too often labeling them is premature at best, a projection at worst. -
Course the original article was a writers (a sharp one) take on physics question. Keep in mind they are writing for entertainment and zeno quantum paradox is a really cool name, legitimate and pretty strange. On the other hand, here is physic scientist rebuttal to the whole article: Defending Science Against Cracked.com - http://scienceblogs.com/startswithabang/2012/01/30/defending-physics-against-crac/ Rebuttal to what I posted- 2.) The Particle That Knows Weâre Watching. Radioactive decay, the process that allows an unstable atomic nucleus to transmute into a different element, is one of the slowest physical processes known to man. Often taking billions of years, radioactivity is built on a foundation of quantum mechanics, where a metastable nucleus must quantum mechanically tunnel into a less energetic, more stable state. Image credit: retrieved from Aggeli K at BrightHub.com. It isnât easy, as you can imagine, because thereâs no good way to get up-and-over the proverbial hill; it isnât like those protons and neutrons just spontaneously align into that less energetic configuration! What you need to remember is that each of these particles that make up the nucleus are quantum mechanical in nature: theyâre not just particles, but theyâre waves, too. And waves spread out over time, where they can attempt to tunnel into that more stable (post-decay) state. Every once in a while, after enough time has passed, a nucleus will find its way into that state, and when that happens, you get a decay! Image credit: Chi LF collaboration, from John von Neumann Institute But it takes time to get there. If youâre too impatient, and you canât wait, you might be tempted to look right away. Only, you know what happens in quantum mechanics when you make an observation: you collapse the wavefunction into one particular state! So if you canât help yourself from making observations, what youâre basically doing is resetting the clock every time you look! Image credit: Peter Byrne / Scientific American. If youâre cracked, youâll lament that this is like the watched teapot that never boils. While if youâre a physicist, you know the teapot boils, but the nucleus wonât decay unless you stop continually collapsing its wavefunction!" me> that last sentence seems to back up the weirdness of the phenomena. "but the nucleus won't decay unless you stop continually collapsing its wavefront!" .. It'll take me a while to try to grok that. This sentence is as crazy strange as the phenomena they're defending against, ie "Only, you know what happens in quantum mechanics when you make an observation: you collapse the wavefunction into one particular state! So if you canât help yourself from making observations, what youâre basically doing is resetting the clock every time you look!" He's basically saying we collapse wavefunction by looking at them.? Is this an accepted interplay between human observation (consciousness) and the quantum world? I seem to remember Schroeders cat was originally created to make fun of this kind of paradox. (Also I recall the Big Bang was named ironically by someone who didn't believe in it, to make fun) addon> Course going to wikipedia on Observer effect- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Observer_effect_%28physics%29#Quantum_mechanics to hunt down wavefunction, what is it? We find: "..But the wave function Ď is not a physical object like, for example, an atom, which has an observable mass, charge and spin, as well as internal degrees of freedom. Instead, Ď is an abstract mathematical function that contains all the statistical information that an observer can obtain from measurements of a given system. In this case, there is no real mystery that mathematical form of the wave function Ď must change abruptly after a measurement has been performed." So the wave function is an abstract mathematical function that contains information..?

If entropy is being disrupted by rude stares then we should take notice. I'm usually suspicious of 'quantum' explanations, especially when people try applying quantum phenomena happening at or near sub atomic levels to every day life. But depending on how accurate this is, and I can't vouch for it; if observation is keeping uranium from decay that's pretty interesting, some mechanism is keeping uranium fresh or sorta stopping time around it. I regard Masaru Emoto's work on messages in water crystals as new age fluff. I'm pretty sure his theories such as writing positive words on a rice canister keeping it fresher then a control has been debunked. Yet this article is saying a scientist's gaze is holding back a natural process of decay. And that its replicated in other labs. If so, maybe we should take a closer at the nature of such decay and observation and see what other tricks this phenomena might apply to.

I kinda think you're living a little too much in the past on this one. You're a bit sensitive, she may be a bit sensitive, you might want to consider letting it go as 'one of those things'.. On the third hand if your intuition is strongly pointing to that course of action.. and you're willing to risk being considered a little crazy and stalkerish.. then why not, it might work out. addon> I was trying to remember a movie that your story reminded me of. It's 'I Heart Huckabees' the same philosophy of interconnectedness and need for reconciling seemingly random events. It'd be odd if you haven't seen it. I assume you'd really connect to it.

hmnn, that's unexpected and damn brave of you to admit. Politics really does make strange bedfellows.

The Dalai Lama's impression of the Trumpster
thelerner replied to manitou's topic in The Rabbit Hole
oh.. and the sex; its just crazy, those guys know all the tricks. -
Sounds like you already know some forms. For many people will power is strongest in the morning. I'd recommend don't get dressed until you've done a form or two. Look through the sources people have mentioned here and particularly google 'tai chi in the park' in your area.

High calorie foods, breads, rice, oil and ghee come to mind. So does the homemade Tres leches cake in my fridge but you can't have any, its mine . That aside, I agree that its hard to fight your body type. As pointed out at 25 your metabolism will start slowing down, working out should add a few pounds of muscle and a martial art, hard or soft could help with your confidence. Actually seemss like your half way to being a full yogi, sometimes the best way is to accentuate your strengths.

You think they're going to stage an alien invasion to keep Trump from winning?? wow. just wow. That doesn't seem crazy to you? If there's any chance, at any odds you care to bet on the alien scenario, I'll be there for you.

If he wins by losing big, then I wish him luck.

Okay.. so you guys are true believers. WWIII any time now. Like a man falling from a building about to hit, like an old villager about to turn on a light switch. Uh huh. If I may ask.. if.. if you believe, what are you doing about it. Nothing?? Are you pretty much doing nothing. I expect so, cause deep down, you know.. next week, next month and next year its not going to happen.

Dr. Morris's Secret Smile & Breathing basic KAP 1 (Giri for the Tao Bumbs : ) )
thelerner replied to Vajrasattva's topic in Group Studies
bump. Just saw the youtube link I posted above is no longer functioning. Still there are probably a few good youtubes on KAP and Doctor Morris's techniques, especially the Secret Smile. -
My guess, such pictures are less about love then a screw you, to uptight homophobes. Its probably a pretty small subgroup that's going out its way to shock the puritans among us. I know gay people who are also offended by the more outlandish displays but its part of the culture of gay parades in the U.S. and shouldn't be seen as an indictment on the whole of gay culture. As I get older, I'm going to more Burns (ie Burning Man), my tolerance for colorful dress and undress, all things counter culture has gone way up. Not that its my cup of tea, but by rubbing elbows, you find out not only are they fascinating but they're things to learn from them. It's possible the half naked man in chains is your accountant, coworker or boss. I hope we don't think those dressed up as witches worship Satan or the zombies are hoping to be zombified in real life. There are times and places where an element of play is allowed. I find that a good thing. Matter of fact I'd like to see more of it in society.. the Mardi Gras the Burning Men, Halloweens, color, pageantry, celebration of being both different and yourself.

hmnn, I think his true intention is calling it, like he sees it. What you gonna do in 19 days after Trump goes down in flames, because of all the kindling he himself created? You realize that his chance of losing is about 90% right now. Much as he shows off polls that show him winning and his followers gobble them up, he tends to only use those that allow people to vote as often as they want. The scientific polls all show him going down in defeat, with the biggest question being- will it be a landslide? There's still a small chance he'll win, but I get the feeling his desperation will turn to firing more campaign managers, pissing off more running Republicans and getting increasingly shrill and outlandish. In this election cycle he will be the biggest loser.

cool. its amazing watching Trump sabotage his own campaign, spreading rumors that will cause his most faithful followers not to bother to vote. In the primaries he achieved a Pyrrhic victory. Winning but creating enemies, among 20 to 30% of the US constituents who are minorities (Blacks, Latino's, strangely Native Americans also have huge disdain for Trump) and his own party members calling them juvenile name calling and creating bizarre conspiracy theories, ie his opponent's father may have been involved in assassinating JFK!! Now in the main election he's going for a Pyrrhic 'defeat' not just losing but taking down Republicans on the same ticket.

Speaking of gongfu tea- My old sensei used to say: Never bring Silver Needle White tea to a Green Gunpowder tea fight. You bet your Assam.

Singing bowls for healing, meditation and cleansing?
thelerner replied to Shad282's topic in General Discussion
Cool video. I've been around tibetan bowls. The St. Louis Ki Society had an unusually large one. It had an amazing deep rich sound with an echo chamber that was reminiscent of a helicopter blades swirling. I'd never seen one filled with water before. Fascinating affect. I question drinking it though. Real Tibetan bowls are made with several exotic metals. You'd want to be sure mercury and lead were another amongst them if you drank. runs to internet.. http://www.thesingingbowls.com/metal_contents.asp according to this the 7 metal bowls do have lead and there is some info that seemingly talks that some had a mercury relationship. So, fine to play with, touch and let sing but not a good thing to use as a cup. However there are some glass and crystal bowls that also sing. There's also a whole world of tuning forks that are specifically used for healing. <not that I have experience with them, but they're on some old forgotten to do list. > add on> Googling drinking from singing bowls I found this: PrecautionsDrinking water from a metal singing bowl can be slightly toxic, according to Soul Guidance. Though the water is infused with healing energies, toxins leached into the water by the alloys in your bowl can be harmful over time. For this reason, only drink liquid charged in thoroughly cleaned glass or crystal bowls. If you only have a metal bowl, use charged water to water your plants or cleanse crystals. If you have a glass or crystal bowl, try charging other (non-carbonated) liquids in the bowl. Herbal teas and juices are especially beneficial after a singing bowl healing ceremony. @ http://peopleof.oureverydaylife.com/effects-tibetan-singing-bowl-water-7125.html later later addon> I remember that Jason Stephenson who does guided meditation did a singing bowl one. I haven't listened or downloaded it but.. if you're interested here it is: doubtless there are other good youtubes on singing bowls.- 14 replies

I wonder what the Chinese tradition is.. literal or philosophical? I go with philosophical, or even whimsical. I've seen butterflies, I know butterflies, I am no butterfly.

I've been watching and downloading as mp3 some Barry Long videos. He's a mystic whose thinking influenced Eckhardt Tolle. For a self proclaimed enlightened person, he's quite opinionated, paradoxically. Here's a short video of him doing a Q and A. Worthwhile in my opinion.

Every culture seems to have its drug of choice. And get pretty uptight when they're banned. Not just for slackers, people who work hard want a custom that allows them to blow off tension.

I could see how someone who holds conspiracy sites in high regards and disregards actual experts could come to those decisions. The rabbit hole, Alice and Wonderland, the Matrix.. both were made up, not real. I can help with some of your conclusions. You say, money is fake, I'll take it. No problem. Send it me, all your fake money. I'll give you a post paid envelope, just stick it in. Cause I live in the real world, its not fake, its money and it worth something. In truth the dollar has remained relatively strong the past 8 years and inflation quite low. The debt is worrying but the more important of debt to GDP has been trending down, ie high debt but we're making more, kind of like a family owing alot but lately getting good raises. Not out of the woods but not red lining either. My world is a bit more complicated then your simplistic one. No simple villains controlling everything, instead hundred of competing interests that pull the world in different directions. If you move away from conspiracy sites and take the time to learn about the who's, why's and motivations of the parties beyond the paranoid left and right you can actually get to the truth. You are so far down your 'rabbit hole' that you'll never recover. Every few months will bring the impending disaster coming soon. Like sequels it won't be enough to vilify, to keep readers they'll have to keep upping the ante, til they're not just crooks or illuminatti, now they'll have to be Demons. Seriously I think Breitbart is now selling the gullibles that Clinton is literally a demon. That's step in step with David Icke whose already painted most in power as Greys, evil aliens. Even finding his once faithful wife, an alien cause that's how it works. I didn't want this thread to become yet another one to espouse favorite conspiracy theories, rather I was hoping to look at the psychology brought on by conspiracy sites. Ie the constant fear factor that they create. That like James Bond you have people living in constant fear. How every few months or sooner these sites create coming Crash, end of the world articles, that panic there followers and make money for there advertisers. Since 2001, how many times have you read the world is ending, the black helicopters are coming, the economy is crashing? At some point, after 12- 5 years, you're still as certain as ever?

Is this a new thought? Time is running out. Or is is old and repeating. In 2012, with Obama's election did you think things will be better now? Or in 2008, fantastic, he'll save the auto industry and stop the hemorrhaging of 100,000's of jobs a month? Under Bush II were you optimistic that things were fine, no chance of a terrible war? When did your thinking turn toward the coming war? In 1999, before that? How long you been concerned about it, thinking soon, soon, this year or next year?
