This kind of post probably belongs more in Off Topic or a PPD then in General Discussion. It'd be frightening and perhaps irrational to believe Sun's articles on the coming WWIII. To get evidence of it like, Turkey shooting down a Soviet Jet and not not realize that Turkey apologized (months ago) and the relationship has warmed since. Or to believe that Syria was so important that it would start WWIII (minor proxie wars yes, destruction of your entire country, no). It isn't. These days war, especially in the Middle East seems to operate in simmer mode. There's increased tension but there's also a mountain of trade and mutual interests between nations. Despite huge reductions in the number of nuclear weapons, Mutual Assured Destruction that kept the world precarious but safe for decades still stands. In my opinion East West tensions are heating up but still far from the cold war days. I expect once the U.S elections end next month so will some of the tension. If you believe the articles, WWIII is nigh. What are you going to do about it? Head to places in the article? In truth if you want to believe the world is going to end, the internet will always be there to provide proof that you're right, day after day, month after month, decade after decade.

heck, there's a lot of suns/stars out there. Probably a nice water planet just 4 light years away. all we need is momentum and some good reading material.

Long lasting pain makes for tough times. For some unknown reason Kratom has been coming up in my internet searches lately. I've never used it but its seems to have a very good reputation as a powerful medium term herbal pain reliever. http://www.sagewisdom.org/kratomguide.html - In many ways kratom is safer than many commonly prescribed opiate pain medications: It is not as addictive; people do not develop rapid tolerance to it; and it is not known to depress respiration significantly. Many thousands of people benefit from the use of this herb to treat chronic pain, and many report that it is more effective than prescription narcotic pain killers, and does not produce the undesirable side effects of those drugs. To take this medicine away from people who need it is inhumane. http://www.cracked.com/personal-experiences-2391-how-kratom-became-next-flashpoint-in-war-drugs.html - And Dr. Grundmann told me, "From my personal discussions with people who are using kratom, it's definitely not a junkie kind of scene ... it's mainly middle-aged women who suffer from chronic pain that is not adequately relieved, or who suffer severe adverse effects from opioid treatment ... It's my understanding that most of these folks really benefit from kratom." Apparently there are many places you can still get, though it is in danger of getting banned. Many years ago I bought (crazy stuff with Yoda) from IAMSHAMAN.COM and they seemed reputable- https://www.iamshaman.com/eshop/10Browse.asp?Category=Kratom . Looks like they're running low though. Let me know if you give a try. Otherwise I'm into staying ahead of pain with lots of ibuprofen.

Sure we will. Mankind is nothing if not adaptable. We have proven ourselves able to survive from the frozen tundra to desert for the past couple 1,000 years. We're able to stretch genetics to live higher, wetter, colder and hotter; change our body types from pygmies to 7 footers. While its a double edged sword, intelligent use of technology gives us incredible advantages in shaping our environment. Given money and will we can build self sustaining cities virtually anywhere on the planet. Give us a few months notice and we/some could survive extinction level meteorites. Just a matter of digging deep enough in a few places. There are still enough isolated places on the globe to keep pandemics from reaching some smaller islands and land areas. With enough tech we could survive a snowball earth for a long time, digging deep in the right spot is half the battle; hello Matrix Zion. We might do even better on Waterworld. We are a durable species. heck 3 good men with only spears against 15 hungry eating lions. no problem

I was thinking it'd be interesting to know members favorite products. Particularly the unusual ones. Physical Spoonk. Its like a yoga mat with 1,000's of quarter inch rubber spikes. After the initial pain it produces deep relaxation. Pine Pollen Tincture. Mine from The Rural Apothecary(Etsy). This is an amazing tonic, one of the few supplements where I definitely see the difference especially the morning after taking it. Audio CD Tao Basics from Silent Ground by Minke De Vos. 4 very well done guided meditations of Taoist practices Microcosmic Orbit, Deep Body Smile, Energy Meditation and Sexual Energy. Music-Rumours by Fleetwood Mac. Superb acoustic pickings, accompany great harmonies. Rock melds with the best of Folk music.

Proof of Infidelity Probability Theory (PoIPT) is such a cool name I hate to see it wasted on 2 kings and a knight. To make it sexier you need to bring some queens on board, then its not just a theory, its a drama.

Hi! Having extremely interesting energy experiences...

Welcome. Your spontaneous chi gung reminds me of the Stillness Movement medical chi gung taught by Ya Mu, a member here. One part of his system is simply putting your hands on your dantien when meditating. After 20 years of meditating with them a few inches from there I felt a real difference, a collection and more heat when kept my hands on dantien. He also taught a slight natural bob when meditating, which was different then any practice I'd done. It made sitting for longer periods easier. As if it burnt off the little bit of energy the body was still producing.- 11 replies

I spent 3 years learning rooting in Shotokan Karate then 10 years unlearning it in Aikido. Or rather for years my Aikido sensei would tell me stop planting. Stability came from relaxation, my center, keeping my body as unit. Not from wide stances or tightening anything other then natural relaxed extension. An exercise that gives the feeling was from any ready stance dropping down low, a few feet. Letting my knees bend and torso collapse down, yet keeping balance. Then rising back up lightly. That feeling just at the top, is what you want. That sense of lightness, yet also keep hold of the effortless down you just did. If you get the feeling right you'll find you're much harder to push over.

For the first time ever, bees added to endangered species list
thelerner replied to joeblast's topic in The Rabbit Hole
As per the article, wild life in Hawaii is probably always on the run from encroaching development and foreign invaders man and beast. Conservation on an island has tougher hurdles then the mainland. Development rarely reverses. Whereas say in Detroit, we've seen nature reclaim areas as people and manufacturing left. On the brighter side, more and more gardeners and parks around Chicagoland are going 'natural'. Replacing grass with pasture filled with natural wild flowers and native plants. I believe Chicago and it's suburbs have decided to stop spraying pesticides to kill dandelions. Saving quite a bit money, time and the keeping the environment a little cleaner. Gardeners around here are doing there part. More are planting native perennials. I'm seeing more flowering fruit trees, ground cover instead of grass that needs no cutting and little or no water. From what I read bees were being weakened a few different ways from viruses to dust mites. Part of the problem was overall weakness. Hopefully with less pesticides, more flowers, and bit more love and care we'll see a bounce back. I'm starting to see some humming birds around and I think they're an excellent harbinger. I saw a crawfish crawling in the local water way. Heck, a coyote just crossed my lawn yesterday at twilight, so nature is.. on the move. It's been a very good green summer for wildlife here in the Midwest. -
good stuff, probably (imo) would work better in the Personal Discussion (PPD) section, where such intimate diary style writings are better preserved, versus here where it flows offscreen quickly and is not typical 'Newcomer' style material. If you don't have one you should ask in the Forum Technical section.

truly effortless meditation.....a new way of meditating

I find giving my mind a repetitive chore, ie counting breaths up to 100, is so boring it drives me out of my mind; a good thing. -
Pentagon paid PR firm $540mn to make fake terrorist videos

I'd do a little more research before buying into the story. I find RT to be partly a mouth piece for Russia, so I'm little weary of its more sensationalistic stories, ie in the comment section of the article you have a person saying 'Putin in a giant in every way' not horrible in itself but it got 63 Likes. I tend to think that means plants, who are creating the comments. Do they also control the content? I don't know, maybe. In any case I'd want to see more evidence then RT. I feel the same way about Breitbart. Not that every article is wrong, but for the more sensational, it'd be good to see another side. Too often people bite whole hog onto anything that fulfills there biases. -
Despite my reservations and criticisms of it, the test probably pegged me correctly.

A technology has been developed to lucid dream, what about enlightenment?
thelerner replied to Shad282's topic in General Discussion
There may be a few pills that come close but, they're temporary and such mind opening/bliss comes at a price. Maybe they can be used as sign posts but all in all no substitute for the real thing.- 6 replies

Same here. The questions make assumptions I don't, in truth I can't answer them. Further the lack of nuance also renders my answers incomplete or wrong. Seems like many questions are phrased to be 'leading'. Nonetheless, I am here: Closer to Gandhi then other, but close to the middle. Your Political Compass Economic Left/Right: -2.0 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.67 addon> how would I describe myself politically. Not too political. I view it like gossip, something to stay away from. On the hand, its nice to know the players and there motivations. During this election year I've probably paid/wasted too much attention. Anyhow, I'd describe myself as an independent (I've swung voted both ways) who tends to lean democratic and left on some not all social issues, yet tends to lean right fiscally, just a little. I don't mind divided government. One party controlling all the houses scares me a bit. I think the U.S needs a fiscal conservative to do house keeping and apply economic enemas every few cycles.

I hope not, I'd hate to have a 'used' cat. I want a brand new one.

In truth, the martial artist who's practiced a kick 10,000 times is a beginner, with only a few months of practice. After a few years, the number should be in the 100,000's. When I told my assistant instructor I'd been doing 1,000 sword cuts a day (after practice) for a brown belt test, I was told, that wouldn't meet the bare minimum in times past. In truth, a 100,000 kicks against the air shows good form, but doesn't mean much in combat. Better still when they're against a heavy bag. The person I'd really fear is the one who spent as much time with contact sparring as solo striking practices. Unless your One Punch Man, there's a whole lot more to fighting then punches and kicks.

Actually for the past 15 years, if you wait until they change camera angles you usually have a few minutes to get out of the way. Just in case there is a Chuck.. Chuck Norris doesnt shave; he kicks himself in the face. The only thing that can cut Chuck Norris is Chuck Norris. Little known medical fact: Chuck Norris invented the Caesarean section when he roundhouse-kicked his way out of his monther's womb. Q: How many Chuck Norris' does it take to change a light bulb? A: None, Chuck Norris prefers to kill in the dark. When Bruce Banner gets mad, he turns into the Hulk. When the Hulk gets mad, he turns into Chuck Norris. Chuck Norris once kicked a horse in the chin. Its decendants are known today as Giraffes. Chuck Norris uses a night light. Not because Chuck Norris is afraid of the dark, but the dark is afraid of Chuck Norris. Since 1940, the year Chuck Norris was born, roundhouse-kick related deaths have increased 13,000 percent.

I go with Karen's answer, genetics. I've heard boys tend to inherit there maternal grandfather's hair type or lack of it. I had bad dandruff for years. A condition that can't be healthy for the scalp. I found shampooing less, then not shampooing at all stopped decades of dandruff. Cold showers seem to help too. I also use a good quality brush with stiff teeth. I massage my head with it daily, ie combing my hair firmly for 2 or 3 minutes instead of one. Which spreads the natural oils around and stimulates blood flow.. regrow hair, probably not, but I'm assuming it creates healthier scalp and hair.

I wrote a little while ago that some trust there instincts/wisdom and do well. Others do not. If trusting in the dao is causing insecurity and getting you thrown into mental wards, then it might not be the path for you. Perhaps combining it with a more traditional route of finding steady employ while making the wisdom of the tao your lifelong study would work out better then just relying on its providence. For me the Dao is more about blending into your environment then it being an invisible hand that provides. So your work might be finding the right niche to fit into nicely. Depending on the government hand outs long term is usually a mistake.
