People should have the right not to be discriminated against. If this seems like being 'forced' to some, then they'd better get out of the way because the wave of modernity and social justice is going wipe them away. Sorry if its a burden but you'll have to treat them as you would anyone else. It's like you are under the opinion that homosexuals can walk into a place and demand a job, automatically get an apartment or force you to marry them. They can't. Its all about creating a level playing field because for generations, they'd be black balled from all of the above. There are fundamentalists who've cried foul and pain over having to give equality to woman, other religions and people of color. They're going to have to suck it up again and take on live and let live attitude. Believe me, it'll do'em some good.

Has anyone tried to clear chakras by sound?
thelerner replied to centertime's topic in Hindu Discussion
Mantras, don't step into a shower without one. I'm surprised everyone doesn't have a mantra, prayer or song that they do in the shower. The quiet, privacy and acoustics really amplify there power. -
On a sexuality basis, I've always thought we swim in a soup of hormones from birth. They put us on a spectrum that runs male to female with most falling towards the ends but not all. Some are in the middle some, a few, at extremes from there gender. There may be environmental pressures that might be mixing up the usual odds a little, ie more estrogen and various chemicals in food, probably not a good thing. On there the other hand there is also an openness in society to be who you are. That, in my opinion, is a good thing.

I'll throw in Michael Winn of Healing Tao USA, just google him and he had youtube videos. I also like Michael Lomax as Brian mentioned. Just the few changes in how to sit were well worth the seminar. Max Christenson and his system is worth experiencing. If you have an interest in Buddhism, especially the deeper side with jhanas and want a teacher who's both contemporary and has a great sense of humor google Ajahn Brahms. He has many free dharma talks for download and even some books. Two points. It good to look around and experiment to see what connects with you, but ultimately you have to 'marry' one system. Though you can still flirt with others occasionally. Also, As I've gotten older I've been focused on less potent systems, getting back to just sitting. Nothing wrong with keeping it simple. Last thing, its nice to have a chanting system in your portfolio for when you're in the shower.

Instead of being scared, how lucky to see it and what a great opportunity to look for pieces. Provided you survive the initial bombardment ofcourse, which are actually pretty damn good.

I forget the name of it. Either Waldo or Magic Inc, but in the 1940s sci fi writer Robert Heinlein wrote a short story about society poisoning itself through there invisible energy waves. -
Mirin Dajo - Man with ability to withstand swords pushed right through his body
thelerner replied to NotVoid's topic in General Discussion
I've thought it might cool to come up with some sort of 'way of the needle' practice. To be able to put a needle through the web between your thumb and pointer finger without pain or much blood. Nothing too rad. Some sort of gradual biofeedback series of lessons, maybe using self hypnosis. Course I read a book about Jack Schwarz when I was young. I'm doing the Wim Hof method 10 week course now, it'd be fascinating to see more courses that deal with biofeedback and hacking the body and brain. -
Suggestions for toddler who keeps falling?
thelerner replied to Astral_butterfly's topic in General Discussion
One of my kids tended to fall quite a bit. I don't think it bothered them too much, it didn't seem to hurt them either. While not graceful, they fell well. They grew out of it. If you think it's serious you can take her to a pediatrician but like many things, kids/toddlers simply grow out of it. They may have taken after me. When I was a kid I saw specialist and ended up bouncing balls with each hand and having an eye patch on each eye for a while. That was back in the late 1960's so maybe things have changed since them. Course bouncing a ball never goes out of style. -
Mirin Dajo - Man with ability to withstand swords pushed right through his body
thelerner replied to NotVoid's topic in General Discussion
I'm reminded of Jack Schwarz. A pioneer in holistic health and biofeedback. He'd give demonstrations where he'd put a long sail maker needles through his bicep. With no pain and little or no bleeding. That's a much easier 'trick' then Dajo's, but in the same genre. Excellent mind/body control. Apparently he could perform many yogic tricks. Dajo might be an extreme example of such mind/body control. While it was just a long needle through a non lethal part, Schwarz lived to be 76 and seemed to lead a good healthy life. To me, that counts for way more then what is essentially a party trick. I think we can learn some of it, do things to a lesser degree, but those with great desire and a certain natural talent will always put us to shame. -
In the United States set the lunar scam fat point!
thelerner replied to Lois's topic in The Rabbit Hole
The short answer is, its very, very, very expensive and a bit dangerous but mostly expensive. Its hard to justify the price. We tend to get more benefits out of the International Space Station (249 miles versus 250,000). That costs roughly $150 Billion, setting up a Moon base 1,000 times farther in a gravity well would be many many many times more expensive. Also there's a sense of been there, done that. We've landed on the moon 6 times, mapped it, put up satellites around it, gotten rocks, played golf, taken pictures.. serious science we can do with the International Space Station. I wouldn't be surprised if some country (China, Russia, India, Europe Union) landed people on the moon in the next 15 years but a moon base, there is prestige in doing so, but not too much real science, and its expensive. A big problem isn't just getting things to the moon, its getting off the moon. Even though the gravity is just 1/6 of Earth, vehicles tend run out of juice getting there. Thus having to leave half the craft (& weight) on the moon and do a hail Mary to blast away from the Moon's atmosphere. P.S there is a show at the Adler Planetarium called The Last man on the Moon, a documentary on Apollo 17 and the men and engineer who did it. Might be worth watching. http://www.adlerplanetarium.org/events/last-man-moon-film-screening-12-12-15-12-19-15-2015-12-12/?utm_source=exacttarget&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=12.10.15%20December%20Member%20News If any of you are in Chicago, I'm a member and can get people in for free. -
It's always our choice to to reply to anything negatively or personally. There's a great comic showing a guy up late at night, looking angry and typing furiously on his computer with the caption- someone on the internet is wrong! and need my correcting. Such silliness is widely acknowledge and a trap I fall into way to often. Particularly when we get into our heads we're doing this to educate the masses. Best advice I've heard is, state your truth and walk away.

and also apologies for the silly inflammatory incidents I've caused on purpose and by accident that wasted your time and energy. I will try to do better.

Sorry if the conversations moved past this. Its fuzzy, its not logical, its wrought with con men and can't be reproduced repeatedly or on demand, but I believe getting knowledge without direct contact is possible. No idea of the mechanisms but in my travels, the people I've met, the stories I've heard, I believe. There are people with some extra-sensory gifts, awakened and expanded intuition.

Welcome, I look forward to your participation. Out of curiosity, could you tell us more about Flying Phoenix Heavenly Healing? How long it takes, a little about its origins and anything unusual about it? Thanks Michael added later < just realize it's a Flying Phoenix style from one the teachers that posts here>

Open discussion: What it means to be human, what it means to be a hero
thelerner replied to CrunchyChocolate555's topic in General Discussion
Traditionally, I believe, in India, that there is time for both. There are a few who'll gravitate to become swami's or monks immediately but the 'heroic' man can have a family, live in the world, then obligations fulfilled, retire from it, release attachments and find oneness. -
Yin Through Synthetic Material - Yes or No?
thelerner replied to SonOfTheGods's topic in General Discussion
Yin Chi is a lousy word combo since both words have so many different meanings. I'd rather find out how people define it, and how they experience it. In truth, the best proof of such things isn't 'look on page 235', its to get people to personally experience it. For the most part aren't you talking about the subtle energies of meditating outside? Here's a question. My fields of study haven't involved yin or yan chi specifically, other then broad motion of movement along orbits. But in KAP, the micro-cosmic orbit, and specifically Glenn Morris's writings he talks about running hot or running cold. With hot being much more pervasive. That running cold is needed in the upper levels and true mastery requires being able to circulate both. Is Morris's running hot and cold the same phenomena as separating yin and yan chi? Or is it a different phenomena? His books were always a bit murky on how to run cold. Personally doing emptiness meditation I run hot, especially because I do a little Stillness Movement bob while sitting and keep my hands on my dan tien. -
boo, that's awful. You're part of our community and while spending less time is a given, It'd be a big loss if you faded away. My thanks and admiration to the administrators old and new. Like Yueya mentioned: when the going gets tough, the tough pull out there swords and cut clean. I also think to truly honor the admins past and present the best thing we can do is keep the board on a calm easy keel for a while addon <well this was short lived for me >

What does, "All law must be subjective" mean?
thelerner replied to DreamBliss's topic in General Discussion
I think he's saying God is so great and powerful that he treats us all as individuals. Holmes talks of Creative Soil- **"The best illustration of this is in the creative soil, in which the gardener puts his seed. The soil does not argue nor deny, but goes to work on the seed and begins to create a plant which will represent the type of manifestation inherent, as an idea, in the seed." I think the creative soil is an open mind. From an open mind seeds/ideas will come to fruition. On the third hand, lets forget Creative Soil. In the OP original context soil might mean God, and the law is how God does things. He doesn't use subjectivity the way most would. He writes in the same lesson- **"Thoughts going into the subjective are like seeds; they are concepts of ideas, and acting through the creative medium of Mind, have within themselves the full power to develop and to express themselves." He also seems to use the word law to represent "..Perfect Law, Divine Order, and limitless substance that intelligently responds to me". So sometimes Law is perhaps another word for the divine. <from http://ernestholmes.wwwhubs.com/holmes12.htm) **from http://newthoughtlibrary.com/holmesErnest/scienceOfMind/som_261.htm On the third hand maybe he's saying: God is so great and powerful that he treats us all as individuals. -

I always thought this list of objects we've left on the moon is cool. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_artificial_objects_on_the_Moon " List of artificial objects on the Moon is a partial listing of artificial materials on the Lunar surface. The table below does not separately list small items such as retroreflectors, Apollo Lunar Surface Experiment Packages, or the commemorative and personal objects left there by Apollo astronauts, such as the golf balls from Alan Shepard's lunar driving practice during Apollo 14, flags, Alan Bean's silver astronaut pin, or the Fallen Astronaut statuette left by the crew of Apollo 15. The remains of five S-IVB third stages of Saturn V rockets from the Apollo program are the heaviest single pieces sent to the Lunar surface. Humans have left over 187,400 kilograms (413,100 lb) of material on the Moon, and 380 kilograms (838 lb) of Moon rock was brought back to Earth by Apollo and Luna missions. The only artificial objects on the Moon that are still in use are the retroreflectors for the lunar laser ranging experiments left there by the Apollo 11, 14, and 15 astronauts and by the Lunokhod 1 and Lunokhod 2 missions.[1] Objects at greater than 90 degrees east or west are on the far side of the Moon, including Ranger 4, Lunar Orbiter 1, Lunar Orbiter 2, and Lunar Orbiter 3..." There have been satellites that circle the moon and have pictures of the landing sites: http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/LRO/news/apollo-sites.html -
People should say which OS and browser they're using. That'll make it easier to catch the culprit. A year or two ago after an update one browser worked fine, the other had hiccups.

I've had some good experiences sitting on tree stumps. For a guy my level its probably pretty subjective, yet there seems to be colors that register on the back of my eyes that usually don't and I can't imagine anything more grounding then being atop an organic structure with such deep roots. Unless its a live tree.. -

If its not a little painful it's not the dao. After all, you can't spell dao, without the ow. Getting back into harmony means change. Shifting our paradigms, our values, leaving our comfort zones. Cutting away more and more of the superfluous. Becoming simpler. And simple is often way harder then complex.
