Open discussion: What it means to be human, what it means to be a hero
thelerner replied to CrunchyChocolate555's topic in General Discussion
Traditionally, I believe, in India, that there is time for both. There are a few who'll gravitate to become swami's or monks immediately but the 'heroic' man can have a family, live in the world, then obligations fulfilled, retire from it, release attachments and find oneness. -
Yin Through Synthetic Material - Yes or No?
thelerner replied to SonOfTheGods's topic in General Discussion
Yin Chi is a lousy word combo since both words have so many different meanings. I'd rather find out how people define it, and how they experience it. In truth, the best proof of such things isn't 'look on page 235', its to get people to personally experience it. For the most part aren't you talking about the subtle energies of meditating outside? Here's a question. My fields of study haven't involved yin or yan chi specifically, other then broad motion of movement along orbits. But in KAP, the micro-cosmic orbit, and specifically Glenn Morris's writings he talks about running hot or running cold. With hot being much more pervasive. That running cold is needed in the upper levels and true mastery requires being able to circulate both. Is Morris's running hot and cold the same phenomena as separating yin and yan chi? Or is it a different phenomena? His books were always a bit murky on how to run cold. Personally doing emptiness meditation I run hot, especially because I do a little Stillness Movement bob while sitting and keep my hands on my dan tien. -
boo, that's awful. You're part of our community and while spending less time is a given, It'd be a big loss if you faded away. My thanks and admiration to the administrators old and new. Like Yueya mentioned: when the going gets tough, the tough pull out there swords and cut clean. I also think to truly honor the admins past and present the best thing we can do is keep the board on a calm easy keel for a while addon <well this was short lived for me >

What does, "All law must be subjective" mean?
thelerner replied to DreamBliss's topic in General Discussion
I think he's saying God is so great and powerful that he treats us all as individuals. Holmes talks of Creative Soil- **"The best illustration of this is in the creative soil, in which the gardener puts his seed. The soil does not argue nor deny, but goes to work on the seed and begins to create a plant which will represent the type of manifestation inherent, as an idea, in the seed." I think the creative soil is an open mind. From an open mind seeds/ideas will come to fruition. On the third hand, lets forget Creative Soil. In the OP original context soil might mean God, and the law is how God does things. He doesn't use subjectivity the way most would. He writes in the same lesson- **"Thoughts going into the subjective are like seeds; they are concepts of ideas, and acting through the creative medium of Mind, have within themselves the full power to develop and to express themselves." He also seems to use the word law to represent "..Perfect Law, Divine Order, and limitless substance that intelligently responds to me". So sometimes Law is perhaps another word for the divine. <from http://ernestholmes.wwwhubs.com/holmes12.htm) **from http://newthoughtlibrary.com/holmesErnest/scienceOfMind/som_261.htm On the third hand maybe he's saying: God is so great and powerful that he treats us all as individuals. -
In the United States set the lunar scam fat point!
thelerner replied to Lois's topic in The Rabbit Hole
I always thought this list of objects we've left on the moon is cool. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_artificial_objects_on_the_Moon " List of artificial objects on the Moon is a partial listing of artificial materials on the Lunar surface. The table below does not separately list small items such as retroreflectors, Apollo Lunar Surface Experiment Packages, or the commemorative and personal objects left there by Apollo astronauts, such as the golf balls from Alan Shepard's lunar driving practice during Apollo 14, flags, Alan Bean's silver astronaut pin, or the Fallen Astronaut statuette left by the crew of Apollo 15. The remains of five S-IVB third stages of Saturn V rockets from the Apollo program are the heaviest single pieces sent to the Lunar surface. Humans have left over 187,400 kilograms (413,100 lb) of material on the Moon, and 380 kilograms (838 lb) of Moon rock was brought back to Earth by Apollo and Luna missions. The only artificial objects on the Moon that are still in use are the retroreflectors for the lunar laser ranging experiments left there by the Apollo 11, 14, and 15 astronauts and by the Lunokhod 1 and Lunokhod 2 missions.[1] Objects at greater than 90 degrees east or west are on the far side of the Moon, including Ranger 4, Lunar Orbiter 1, Lunar Orbiter 2, and Lunar Orbiter 3..." There have been satellites that circle the moon and have pictures of the landing sites: http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/LRO/news/apollo-sites.html -
People should say which OS and browser they're using. That'll make it easier to catch the culprit. A year or two ago after an update one browser worked fine, the other had hiccups.

I've had some good experiences sitting on tree stumps. For a guy my level its probably pretty subjective, yet there seems to be colors that register on the back of my eyes that usually don't and I can't imagine anything more grounding then being atop an organic structure with such deep roots. Unless its a live tree.. -
Yo yo yo, we got a 10 year old Prius; You give us any lip We run you down with ip. It won't make no sound when it puts u in the ground. s u c k a h ! If its not a little painful it's not the dao. After all, you can't spell dao, without the ow. Getting back into harmony means change. Shifting our paradigms, our values, leaving our comfort zones. Cutting away more and more of the superfluous. Becoming simpler. And simple is often way harder then complex.

side note, I remember a post someone wrote about going to China for an open Taoist convention and made a comment that the DDJ wasn't written by Laozi. That got them pretty much black balled and considered a persona non grata from that point on.

There may be a significantly closer relationship to kototama sounds and Taoist 5 healing sounds than most realize.
thelerner replied to Oneironaut's topic in General Discussion
Before I read it to the end I thought the information was from O'Sensei, the founder of Aikido. He was very into Kotodama, a very vowel wise version of it. Here is a video of what it was like (powerful stuff): John Stevens wrote a book 'Secrets of Aikido' (very little Aikido but much esoteric information) which was all about Japanese kotodama. He also wrote a great book about the Marathon Monks of Mount Hiei. I find Abulafiah's kabbalah method and its modern translation in Ecstatic kabbalah, go a step further focusing the 'vowels' into where they naturally hit the body. addon> I think every system, maybe most languages too have roots where Aaah or Maah connects to the heart and is a word for mother. -
Nope, I was referring to a half second or so flash. The lightning that goes on in the back of your mind way faster then conscious thought. Past experience is undoubtedly involved in it but not through conventional memory or thinking back. In computer terms it's more flash memory then searching the hard drive. Sometimes we need a trigger to access it; clearing and emptying the mind. Its not that exotic, we use it all the time for problem solving. Stopping conscious thought and allowing the subconscious to solve the problem. It doesn't always work, but it's cool when it does. Problem solved instantly. Like other types of intelligence, it works better for some then others and some are genius's of it. In the Robert Downey Jr version of Sherlock Holmes they paradoxically don't show him so much to be a deductive master, rather in one montage they show how images flash before him, linking unlikely but connected items giving him answers instantly. That's Sherlock Holmes, but when I problem solve, say word scrabble or Sudoku, my first approach is to blank the mind and stare and be open to solutions. It usually gets me the easy ones. Later I'll use my logical brain to work on others, then when stymied go back to empty blank mind, and see how that does. They work not exactly together but complimentary in my opinion.

I think you can. Part of it is keeping a quiet mind. Part of it is watching and recording the flashes of ideas that come into it and seeing how well these pieces of intuition work out. Find out as objectively as possible if your intuition comes is on the money. In which situations its right or wrong. It's not mumbo jumbo either. People make hugely importantly decisions very quickly based on minutiae that doesn't register to the conscious mind. Some people are gifted in it, others are not and need to take time and effort in decisions. I'm against the whole 'We live in the Matrix' meme. But I do agree with the idea that we tend to make decisions immediately and spend most of our conscious thoughts on rationalizing them.

It has much significance. Nicely ties in with gratitude and politeness. I think it should be thrown about more often and with sincerity. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I realize there are many posts and a near infinite number of things you could doing right now and the fact you've taken part of your day, time you will never get back, allowed the very telomeres which measure out your lifespan to break down ever so much, quickening the time of your inevitable death and the eternal extinction of everything you have and hold dear to read instead of finding a soul fulfilling activity to add a temporary measure of meaning to the brief match stick of flame which is our lives.

I thought my post was acknowledging the faults and I was referring to the car more for trickle down tech, though the battery may prove better (or not) for larger business facilities then houses. Maybe it'll take a billionaire like Bruce Wayne or Elon Musk to spend and/or generate enough hype to clean up this godforsaken town/environment.

How do you deal with a strong, recurring desire?
thelerner replied to DreamBliss's topic in General Discussion
I'm reluctant to give advice since you might be up to something that could be .. destructive.? So I'd recommend spending time to double check the possibilities of negative outcomes that could occur with the 'thing' you plan. Seriously consider worst case scenarios. I assume you're not giving full information because they may be significant. That being said, there is a martial art dictum. Do the thing on your mind quickly and with full attention then relax completely, knowing it is done. -
Do it. Fate is an almost taboo subject in the West yet a science in Taoism. One of you should create a new Topic based on her insights. Set it free from the Matrix

Tesla's Power Wall was not the game changer I was hoping for. But, its relatively new. The idea is good and maybe it will evolve, get cheaper as well as storing more energy faster. Cheaper and more efficient solar energy will highly effect it sales and cheap oil and gas will slow it. At a certain point it might live up to its hype, if not here, then in places that have no or poor grids where solar is more viable. Who knows, in 20 years it could change the paradigm of needing giant centralized power stations into every house or neighborhood taking care of itself. Natural gas has gotten so cheap, it'd be interesting to see if a natural gas back up generator is cheaper then what people pay a utility for. It might be. I couldn't find hard numbers in my first quick google searches. add on> My hope for Tesla cars is that the research and tech trickles down to the rest of the industry. Much of it's design and philosophy is brilliant. For that alone I hope it survives and thrives.

Rely only on expansive power and masculinity and you lose half your strength. Add suppleness, softness, patience even retreat to your repertoire and you gain much.

Different strokes for different folks. Good luck. Probably she is out there and now its your job to live up to being good enough for her .

Plz Recommend Books on the Introduction to Daoism
thelerner replied to Li Xiao Yao's topic in Welcome
I wasn't a fan of Tao of Pooh, a little too much pop culture. For beginners I like Daniel Reids books. But as Soaring Crane says, different books connect to different people. The Dao Bums has some great resources for books like the 'Daoist Textual Studies' section is all about analyzing the classics. Another resource with over 20 pages and 300 posts is 'What are you reading right now? http://thedaobums.com/topic/24167-what-are-you-reading-right-now/?p=348229 . The whole subsection called Group Studies has good leads and some indepth reviews of famous books. Finally the 'Which books sit on your nightstand' is filled with recommendations- http://thedaobums.com/topic/37153-which-books-sit-on-your-nightstand/?p=598284 Welcome to the bums, enjoy. -
Put too many conditions on what your mate will be has a couple of problems. One you end up knocking the vast majority of woman, a couple of who might be perfect soul mates, except the fail one or two litmus tests, ie fight with a brother or sister. Two, you find a woman who fits your standards, thus putting her on a pedestal setting her up for a big fall. There is no such thing as perfect. We all have flaws. Thus your woman who cares for her parents spends more time with them, then you and your virgin wants to stay highly virginal.

Does anyone else put effort into dissolving ones own personality? What are the last personal thoughts and feelings you have?
thelerner replied to 4bsolute's topic in General Discussion
As always, there is a sweet spot. In the West the lens we see the world through is 'Me Me Me' that clouds our vision of reality. Maybe just knocking it down to a single uncapitalized me, cleans up vision and would actually make us happier and a little more in-touch with our humanity. Keep our personalities but drop the heavier parts of the ego. -
Poison the rats or what can anyone suggest.
thelerner replied to AussieTrees's topic in The Rabbit Hole
hmnn, so the big question iss what did the rats spend the $50 on?? -
Course if you ignore the plotline an go with the basic world scheme then the normal awakened people are those who live in Zion. Life is a little drabby but there's family friends jobs and occasional huge rockin orgies. The Matrix is an artificial game people can plug into, its not real life. Like a game you can create the illusion of stats and a spoon is not a spoon. But in real life, in Zion, that's a question that'd be laughed at. Because they're real people not living in a fantasy game and they have things to do and life to live.
