Does the virus have any particular message attached to it? I'll usually google the message and I'll find out from people (experts) how to combat that particular strain. If its hitting you, its hitting others. Need I say make sure your virus protections are up to date, that includes third party and Microsoft various updates like Defender. As a secondary protection try SpyBot, its not a main defense but as second line in the sand it works differently the most. Just make sure you download it from the right source. Its a low odds kind of thing, but you can use Recovery to go back to an earlier date. The worst virus's tend to be Trojan Horses that are programs that you've downloaded. Since the user downloaded them they can stay off the books as an invasive nastiness. Good luck. The atomic bomb is wiping the hard drive clean.. Killing'em all and letting Job's sort it out.

Thanks for this. It brings back memories. Freaky costumes, cars and people, the bar hopping, wild nights and calm bonfires. The lights, the fires, the sound and fury of it all. Tracking across the vast desert playa daily, looking for something.

Are there any parallels between taoist healing sounds and kotodama sounds?
thelerner replied to Oneironaut's topic in Daoist Discussion
When I think kotodama (sacred sounds) I think about sacred shinto chanting and Abulafiah's Kabalah, two systems very into vowels, Aiee(head), EEEee(throat), Aahahh(heart), OOHHhh(belly), OOooo. Versus Taoist Chhweii (kidney), Shhhhh(Liver), AHHahhhh(heart), SSSsss(Lung), Heeiee (differences depending on school). One similarity is the heart sound is the same. You find Haahhh as heart sound in many 'sound' systems. Likewise you find Maaa or Ammaaa the word for mom in many languages and Aahh is the reflexive sound of relief everywhere. Great arts, very experiential. Exploring them allows you to appreciate chants on another level. Thus with Abulafiah's system you feel the music, or sacred chants, playing you, up and down the body. -
Another explosion in a Chinese citiy this Wednesday?

While a warship off Alaska would seem to show more militancy, they apparently just announced shrinking there military by 300,000, down to 2 million. Still quite a bit but seems like its a move in the right direction. These days lasting power may be having a respectable military and more then respectable economy. -

New Age thinking can be a double edged sword. The whole 'you create your reality', philosophy can chew people up and depress them badly. When there life sucks it leads to the feeling they are totally responsible and if they wanted they could almost magically become rich, thin.. blonde. But imo, it doesn't work that way. Life deals us cards, we play them as well as we can, learning along the way. We all go through periods of life that stink, but we get through them and its gets better. It tends to get better faster if we can have a goal, downgrade our desires into preference and accept what is happening now.

We had a very experienced practitioner here who was a mason. I remember he had a really good photo meme of 'What My <> Think I Do..' that probably captured the reality well. I'll see if I can dig it up.

drivel. insulting drivel on a few levels. that's what I think. I've discussed it other places, you could look up old threads but I'm not interested in rehashing it here again. Sorry fine got that out of my system. Before getting into minutiae lets look at it from Occam's Razor. How under one very well researched thinking the plan would costs a $100,000 to $200,000 and is set in motion using 16 people. Versus the conspiracy plan that involves 100's of often very specialized people using millions of ordinance, who'll have to be killed by 100 people, and those people will have to killed by dozens of others. Risking everything dozens if not 100's of times with the final outcome being incredibly stupid, ie after all the chances and risks you have a dozen Saudi's blowing American buildings to pin it on Hussein who is in no way implicated. Jeez, just have a terrorist (or 3) with large back pack enter Building 7, say This is For Saddam on camera or drive the Saddam Mobile into it and blow it up. Simple, versus under one recreation of the conspiracy theory that blew up the Pentagon, you needed 100's of people, ungodly complexity in timing and highly specialized expertise. There are by one estimate 1.7 to 1.8 architects and engineers in this country, so you're a fraction of 1% Showing its drivel gets technical. How far do conspiracy theorists go? Do they think the original bombing was also a conspiracy? Do they think the planes weren't hijacked? That the towers weren't hit by planes? That the pentagon wasn't hit by a plane. Arguing with them tends to be a waste of time (and I suppose the other side feels the same way). There are couple quicker sites to depending on what level debunking your interested in. Like http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/trutherism/2011/09/the_theory_vs_the_facts.html a faster read. Or http://annarborscienceskeptic.com/2011/conspiracy-theory/counter-arguments-to-architects-and-engineers-for-911-truth-part-1-wtc-twin-towers/ a more technical read. There's always the long well done article in Popular Mechanics http://www.popularmechanics.com/military/a2043/4220721/ for those who don't like to read- here's a more holistic view https://youtu.be/GdbeCEFwDTA

I think this is very positive; in headlines China Pledges to cut 300,000 troops by 2017. It'll still have a 2 million man army, but that 300,000 is a 13% reduction. Hopefully we'll see more countries follow. 300k less should free up 100's of millions that can be more productively used.

They're real and they're powerful. Isis is selling the dream of Islamic utopia. A message that resonates for millions of disenfranchised young who see poverty and corruption everywhere. Course there ideology justifies slavery and mass murder of just about everyone else but nothings perfect. I think they're protected by fact the big powers finally see the area as a powder keg that blows up in the face of invading armies. Countries with powerful modern tech (and tanks) have gotten burned there and are suffering Middle Eastern exhaust, doesn't hurt that oils prices are low too. Still if ISIS gains enough power, that'll change. The Caliph's days are as numbered as Osama Bin Laden's were. Even less. Once he goes the movement may splinter. Either way it'll provide new impetus for a major attack against them, and if the Western powers aren't up for it, then it'll be a coalition of the many enemies Daesh has made. And that might be a good thing. A unifier. We will see.

I've heard if you're young, stay away from yang tonics, unless you're sickly you don't need them, and if you are sickly a more balanced tonic might be better. The saying was something like if you use them at 30, what will you use at 60? also There are so many yang tonics out there. Why mess with one that seems.. overly cruel. Can't help but think there's a bit of dark ..(magic) in its creation, a touch of torture, at least in the source Aetherous refers too. I believe places that use deer antler often get it without killing them. With so many other choices available, it wouldn't be my cup or dropperful of tonic. FWIW at 50 I'm taking some Pine Pollen tincture. seems good. we have a thread on it.

Practical ways to let go of attachment?
thelerner replied to vtrader125's topic in General Discussion
Hard exercise. Really. When in an emotional turmoil few things clear the mind like long bouts of exercise. Excess energy gets into the mind and causes all these thoughts that circle around. Get rid of the energy and often the craziness ends and clarity begins. That or trying out think thinking. -

The Art of War

in the same vein, Mystic and founder of Aikido Morihei Ueshiba was asked by a Western Student what the relationship should be between an Aikidoist and there attacker. He said it should be as Parent to child. Interesting, easier done if you're a master. Glenn Morris taught this attitude/saying to his students when about to fight: Let the Universe Decide. -

In my mid 20's I had pretty bad back pain and sciatica. Some surgeon even recommended operating, glad I didn't do it. Ultimately stretching and strengthening (and high dose ibuprofen) was what brought lasting relief. These days when I get stiff I swear by my Spoonk; a yoga mat with 1,600 1/4 inch plastic spikes. It hurts when you lay on it. Maybe that hurt translates into a release of endorphins or maybe its hitting a few acupressure points along with 1590 others, but it gives me relatively quick relief. Any kind of relaxing guided meditation is good too. Often back pain becomes a nasty closed circuit. You're in pain so you tighten and tightening brings more pain. I'll give a shout out to yoga nidra site as a resource for free deep relaxing mp3's - http://www.yoganidranetwork.org/ and go to Downloads.

Personally I don't think its one or the other. Or one has anything to do with the other. kinda like the statement, 'bicycle riding is done through balance, not gum chewing'.. doesn't make sense to me either. You marry someone of a different background cause you fall in love with them, not for scientific or spiritual advancement. I assume the person who's more open minded makes a better scientist (or clergyman) then the one who thinks other races have cooties. later thought> actually 'bicycle riding is done through balance, not gum chewing' actually does make sense. something something by something something else. There.. thats better. -

Brian, I'm not grabbing on to a visual here. I take the paper talking about reaction from a distance.. entanglement?? How would you describe what's being said visually? -
I guess one should first ask, 'Is it really an enemy?' Are you really threatened? Too often in modern life we create enemies which aren't really there. If you're not truly being threatened, ignore, go on with your business. Assume people around you or at least the people who count will see the truth. That your reputation is solid enough to take some mudslinging without having to fire back. If your behavior has been good in the past, don't worry, wu wei, do nothing. Or just speak your truth and walk away. No plots, no schemes.. If you take no offense, then no defense is needed. Otherwise when fighting one can use element theory to get ones strategy. They are fire, use water, stay relaxed, flowing, soothing. They're rock then be air, move around them quickly, keep going. They're air, contain them, nail down what mean and want, define terms. There's a good thead about Sun Tzu's Art of War, lots of good posts there on the art of ending conflict. Maybe part of solving problems is realizing most of the time it's not a war, there's a conflict, you don't need to win, you need to find a good way to end it. A master sees infinite possibilities whereas a fighter just sees a fight.

Good, here we have a statement and prediction. We will be chipped. Do you have a date in mind? Anything like that? It allows us to look back and say, you were wrong (or right, but I doubt it). Your premises were mistaken. So please give a date. Hopefully we'll remember it.

Welcome.. send pictures. Its probably a mirage but many here in the mainland think living in Hawaii would one step closer to heaven. From what I've read there are many practitioners of esoteric arts there.
