Only Beings of Compassion should be born among the ruling classes
thelerner replied to Songtsan's topic in General Discussion
Lets consider saintly people. No powers, just really good, ethical people. Perhaps being involved in politics, its compromises and a bit of the decadence, long enough causes a body to be less saintly. I ran a business and being a boss you gain perspective that a regular employee doesn't have. There are decisions that look Dickish that you make. Every major decision, will be considered unfair to someone and make some group unhappy. Unless its a compromise in which case, often all the groups are unhappy. The truth is; most of the time there are not perfect solutions. Getting things done, as well as any changes are met with resistance and suspicion even when motives are clean. -
I want to stress your mind for a sec: What happens to a supressed society when realizing all our Righteousness is an illusion?

Stop right there. Big dangerous fallacy. We may imagine false consequences to our actions, but don't think for a second there are no consequences to what you do. -
Like pointed out, (bad) people in power, will kill to protect it and spread there beliefs- religious, nationalist or atheist. In the 20th century you had hard core atheists from Stalin to Pol Pot executing millions. Atheism is a relatively new kid on the block, but don't kid yourself that mad men haven't bloodied there hands and caused horrible repression in its name. It shouldn't be that way.. not for atheists or religious people of conscience and good faith.

Some things I learned during the Plant Spirit Medicine (entheogenic) conference
thelerner replied to BaguaKicksAss's topic in General Discussion
As I recall we found both our wives will toss out any suspect funny looking bags. I did make a tea before losing my stash. I ate the damp colorful shroom, can't say I had any particular experience. I tend to be resistant to most drugs, ie no effect on me, which is probably a good thing. So, no loss. Still have a tiny bit of the salvia tincture, but again I don't remember it having much effect on me. -
Interesting and logical. They bend to track light, they'll position leaves to funnel water, not surprising that they can spit out defensive chemicals due to sound and vibration. I wonder how we can use plant intelligence for better growth? Nietschefy them. I was looking at a design for tomato trellis that used 3 pvc pipes interconnected at various levels. The designer said to poke the pipes 8 (or was it 6?) inches below the soil and water through their top. That way less water hit the surface so less evaporation and it would be less likely to start and feed weeds. I might try it next year. Bet I could substitute thick bamboo for the pvc..

Here's a cool site- http://iamshaman.com/. Years ago a great old member (Yoda) and I ordered dried amarita mushrooms and salvia extract from it and did some note comparisons. Neither of which is available these days. Still, not a bad source for some exotics. -

Um, what are immortal Body powers? -
Sounds good. For me winter is the time for Genmai; roasted green tea with toasted brown rice, its sweet, a little thick, filling and oh so cheap. I can get 8 or 9 ounces for $5 or $6 bucks at a local Japanese grocery.

hmnn, I'm thinking simple pentagram . kidding, I think. You want to be yourself, but you also want to play it cool. Not appear too needy or dependent. While I'm not a fan of the aggressive gamesmanship many PUA schools advocate, some of them have sound strategies for confidence and getting closer, faster. They include respect and are about the long game. Might be worthwhile seeing if there are youtubes with intelligent respectful pointers.

Glad to have you here. We're an old forum, I think the bitcoin link went up when they were worth about $4.50! Even if the link worked I don't think it'd see too much action . The nice thing about ZZ is over the day it gives you many opportunities for little bits of practice. Its like, you gotta breath, you may as well invest some time in learning to make it deep and full, likewise you're gonna be spending alot of time in lines, you may as well learn proper alignment, posture and mental attitude. You can get to where you think, Rats the line is moving to fast!.. I'm just getting settled

Almost a side track I was reading a week or two about a branch of advanced humanoids, not neanderthals or cromagnon but another less known group that probably had a good shot at being the dominant race today. The anthropologist wrote what might have hurt them is that they seemed to mature much faster then we do. They left home early. He theorized this seeming advantage led to weaker group cohesion and contributed to there demise. Who knows. Maybe love (& loyalty its less emotional cousin) is a much stronger survival mechanism then we usually recognize. Ofcourse our species does pretty well with the darker emotions too, perhaps another reason we're here and they are not.

That's the danger and the dark side, yet (imo) it'd be a tragedy to live with no sense of loyalty. Never experiencing total surrender to something or someone else. I'm reminded of a story about the great inventor Buckminster Fuller; a student listening to him, said 'So we shouldn't get obsessed?'. He replied back, 'No, you have to get obsessed; that is the path to breakthrough. But you have to know when to leave the obsession behind' *I remember reading that a long time ago. Its not exact and I couldn't find the quote on the internet.

Don't over think it. Find a service that doesn't over promise, over charge, seems well rounded and will get you a few dates a month. Then concentrate on the art of looking good, witty conversation and picking good spots (coffee shops, bars, parks, movies, even cultural stuff). They're all skills that takes practice, don't give up, its a numbers game. The right person is out there.

(wrote this and the thread I tried to put it in was locked. instead of wasting it I'll stash it here). Personally, I look at the forum and I see things like the Chinese language forum here where there are sophisticated translations of classics texts in Chinese, often done by very scholarly people. Matter of fact we have a number of members I'm proud to say are living in China. Dedicated hands on practitioners, who we are lucky to have write here. IN the Taoist Section we have long threads on Zhan Zhuang with many comments from practitioners who've studied with masters and have years experience. We have threads in the Taoist sections on Gi Gong styles I've never heard of, by no means light weight community center stuff, but hard core family styles. We have teachers on board who know there shit and are giving indepth answers. Look at our Interview section, not only do we have a number or renowned teachers who've answered questions, we also old timers here of great wisdom and experience who've added to it. In the General Discussion we have Buddhist, Hindu, and Esoteric/Occult sections that involve knowledgeable practitioners who discuss, argue and fight over there various interpretations. Its not all gold, but its a great resource, and members can make it better by creating good questions, adding positively to discussions. I'd certainly admit some, perhaps many of the threads in General and Off topic can be lightweight, but they're also fun. Meaty topics mixed with esoteric reverie. The whimsical ones bring people together and help form the community. Our Healing Section is an important part of that community too. Some of the deepest threads are in the Personal section. I think some of the most inspiring threads are in the simple training logs. Not selling nothing, just a personal recording what they do, day after day. Simple and inspiring. This is a great Forum. Its all volunteer, its eclectic and should have something for nearly everyone.

Forum terms & rules improvement suggestion
thelerner replied to Wells's topic in Forum and Tech Support
Easiest solution might be for you and Zoom, who are both active on MPG's site and the other Neigong forum to stay there and ignore this one. You can swear up a storm on MPG's site and he doesn't care, hell he'll his style. On the Neigong site you can likewise call people idiots all you want and that board doesn't mind. Frankly I don't don't think this site is the problem (not that its perfect). If you have problems with it, don't come here. The other two sites were literally made for you. Face it, you're not going to change this forum. Its an open eclectic site, quite successful I might add. At its best its a community for sharing ideas. Even the new age ones, even the ones beginners have. As well as the sharing of some pretty deep practitioners who have decades of experience. -
hmmn, in this life, you've gotta make room for play & you've got to make room for deadly serious. Its not either or, even in the same subject. Sometimes you listen to the Buddha as if your life depended on it Sometimes you play with his long squiggly ears.

What is the best thing you've ever done in life?
thelerner replied to PimonratC's topic in The Rabbit Hole
Hmmnn, probably a spit in the eye egg. I've been experimenting for years, dabbling with the various elements, using carefully measuring and timing until its evolved into an artless project. Its not perfect, yet the seeds of its perfection, the sear, the tenderness, the mouthfeel, the spice mixture is all approaching that untouchable mark. -
Zhan Zhuang - Suggestions for Short Practice
thelerner replied to Blackfinger's topic in Systems and Teachers of
I'm sure if my old Aikido teacher saw me doing ZZ now he'd roll his eyes and make a half dozen corrections. But I try. When I do ZZ I like listening to Rawn Clarks Archaeous series of meditations. They're an elemental series that stack the body, earth=leg region, stomach=water, lungs=air, head=fire (I prefer electrical awareness). They're 15 minutes long and make ZZ go by much faster. In the long run they may be just a training tool/crutch, but for me they've been a very good one, and as you progress deeper they get pretty profound. And what the heck, your standing around doing nothing anyway.- 64 replies

holistic philosophy, inclusive practice
thelerner replied to sillybearhappyhoneyeater's topic in Daoist Discussion
When (love) its honest, its great. A smile and kind word is a necessity this world, and that level of being doesn't require 'love'. I've seen people who live out 'love all others', its a hard but saintly path. Cause some people would suck the life out of you. Not to mention a crushing apathy the world often reflects. -
I'm very pro loyalty (& giri) though one must be pretty choosy about where one lays it out. There are times its a blank check and other times on loan.

I'd say it works everyday, 100's of millions of times daily. It happens in every family. -

I'm all for respect, even kindness. Loving others.. not so much. Imo that's going a little too far, its not honest and cheapens the word. Because I simply don't have that level of emotional commitment for a stranger. Respect and kindness I can manage, at least on my good days. -
Hmnn, making someone cry is generally bad. On the other hand if in this incident you were mostly innocent and its her drama play, then sometimes its a part of the relationship and you take the good with the bad. If it truly upsets her I wouldn't make a habit out of it. I've found, a little jealousy in a relationship can be a good thing. It can get you out of a taken for granted zone. Not a lot, but a little.

Yeah, what do you recommend. Personally I use gmail. And I use aol as a junk email I give to anyone not friends and family.
