Purify your Intention Balance wrote this: I edited out the link because it might be a distraction. What I'm interested in is the concept: 'Purify your Intention'. It strikes me there is much food for thought and maybe a secret or two in those 3 words.

If your sensei says don't mix. Don't mix. Still I have great respect for people like Glenn Morris who dedicated himself to studying widely and experimenting with himself and students the best way to approach esoteric meditation. There may be a reason why the MMA kicked ass against pure styles.

Can we practice/meditate/do significant energy work while working on other things?
thelerner replied to Brother_Thelonious's topic in Welcome
Sure you can, you just have to turn off the noodle when its time. It may not be a deep meditation, but advanced practitioner can meditate doing the mundane. They may not choose to, but they can. back to the OP. No guarantees. Its important to walk along a fruitful path, but its best enjoyed for its own sake, not for the reward of enlightenment or goodie basket. And who knows, maybe on our death beds, our last 2 words will be: I Got IT. .- 92 replies

I second this. If she's not a VIP and just an ordinary citizen then recording such conversations are a total waste of even an evil organizations time. Tapping a line is a significant crime, I don't think it'd be risked lightly.

Haven't reached Buddhahood yet, but I think I can safely say- Depends on the dog. I just wonder if Buddha Nature is more prevalent in dogs then man.

Half the equation is how good is the student? How sincere, how long the daily practice? The first and hardest 'secret' is dedicated long term practice.

It was nice to visit the Chinatown in San Francisco and see a couple groups of early morning Chi gungers. Too bad its not wide spread. A culture of follow the leader in the parks each morning.

Leonard Horowitz, the anti-vaccine dentist? I thought you were going back a little deeper in time.

I shouldn't cause it's derailing, but I think- better then the alternative. In leadership I prefer pragmatism over dogmatism.

Thats a good point. PFL has stated a few times that people stopped talking to me after I made this or that point. It might be along with the point was insulting language, like saying they're in a Cult. That tends to result in a game of 'I am rubber, you are glue' or the other party walking away. You have people here who are someone knowledgeable and willing to discuss musical arcana. Take advantage of it. I'm still wondering about practical applications of it. Can't say I'm into Bush beats, but there is some Yoga Kirtan music thats pretty good.

The Crane's got a good point. I wonder if there are collections of scientific papers in India? We must have some Indian members on the site. Any sources you can point to? -
Thoughts about stating warnings for new practitioners
thelerner posted a topic in Forum and Tech Support
This came up in another thread. Problem: People discussing advanced energy and meditative techniques that could be dangerous without a teacher. To what extent should we/they warn newbies? We're not all new and I like that advanced things can be discussed. Maybe have a specific kind of warning that people read when they first come here (or is already here?) One that can be referenced to in some discussions? That might be less confrontational, then what sometimes goes on now. I don't have much time today. What do we say now? And what should we say to new members as far was warnings? -
No, they're from another planet(or dimension) and intent on ruling(after gods or good aliens ruined there plans 65.6 million years ago) and subverting (through politics and bad manners) the earth. i'm beginning to Ssssserioussly wonder about u.

Quality of life is all mostly about focus. Focus on meditation, kindness, nature, beauty.. and your spirit gets a boost. Focus on criticisms, evil, opponents, lizards, fear and paranoia and.. not so much. Taoism 101 points to moving past the little dramas, cultivating a persona thats one with nature/tao and above human pettiness.

Thoughts about stating warnings for new practitioners

What?? They're numbing what must be excruciating pain, sawing through skin, muscle, bones and arteries Then bringing the woman back to life and repairing all the sawing damage done! How can you not be impressed with that? To me its even more then there acts of teleportation. -
I've scanned through the many pages of your writings. Didn't get a whole lot since I don't know a note from a newt. But.. if people conceded to your point, what changes would be made? Would we listen to the same music, Beatles, Ramones, Mozart? Or would we recognize them as being filled with devilish chords that were an abomination and turn to Bushmen music?

My thought is it was the interviewers own question to break up the monotony of the there day. If you go all day asking people the same questions it'd get pretty boring for you. Throw in an unusual zinger every now and then and you've got some interesting dinner conversation possibilities.

While Castaneda's books are a kick, I'd find more authentic material to learn South American mystic practices. Don't know what those might be, but I do know Castaneda's probably won't be amongst them.

What do you think the forum can do to attract some quality teachers?
thelerner posted a topic in General Discussion
Bauguakickass mentioned this in a thread. Having experienced members is great. Having actual teachers is even better. What can we do to get more? It might be as simple as asking a few respected teachers to join and post a little about there art. I'd suggest members ask there teachers to do just that. Or we could make a list of online teachers, their facebook or regular sites and let them know about a particular thread on the bums and if they'd care to add there expertise. In either case it'd be wise to warn them to be thick skinned here due, its a wide sometimes wild audience. It might be good to give the Intro Steward the ability to fast track teachers. -
Thank you for sharing your experience. If may ask: how long did the experience last while on LSD? As long as the dose lasted or longer? Since LSD itself doesn't necessarily bring that experience on, is there a particular practice or mind set that helped you to that state while on the drug?

From the teacher Glenn Morris and from others I was told learn a good variation of the yoga Sun Salutation; for the time spent its the best investment. Its taught at almost all yoga places and there lots of youtubes on it. That's different then exercise's for full lotus. Check google there are some good specific exercises for it. We had some good suggestions on a thread a year or two back by Pythagoreanfullotus. Psychedelics, only advice I have is be careful. There are traps from overdose, poison, freakin out, doing dangerous things while not in your right mind. That's not to say no, just be careful, do it in safe place with people you trust who can take care of you. I was also thinking you may want to investigate mystic practices done in South America. Don't know what they are, and often such things are mis-interpreted in our culture, but if find some things that resonate, you can practice here and now then, fate willing, find a teacher there who'll deepen the practice.

Paul Johnson recently wrote a great biography of Socrates. In a city that worshiped culture and beauty he was an ugly hairy laid back rock star philosopher of his time. Stating elegant questions that echo over 2300 years later.

Hello to all... Looking for help with Microcosmic Orbit and Premature Ejaculation
thelerner replied to oasisinthecity's topic in Welcome
On the mundane side, taking it slow helps as does staying relaxed and putting attention on deep breathing. Switching positions during sex, gives a breather, as does taking a break and using tongue or fingers. There's an old taoist sexual technique where you do 8 shallow thrusts to every deep one. That tends to be less stimulating for men. I'll usually do 3 or 4 shallow to each deep. Unfortunately masturbation can train men to pop early, but it can be a tool to retrain the body to slow down too ie playing the edge while relaxing and deep breathing, then 'walking away' before ejaculation. I've learned that lifting heavy weights tends to build up more testosterone in my system which makes for better sex.- 5 replies
