I was reminded lately that years ago I'd sit and allow my consciousness to cease. Nothing too grand about that, maybe I'd be somewhere closer to sleep then nirvana realms. Don't know. I read Advashanti a couple years ago and since then I've keep my sitting meditations quiet, close to thoughtless but not allowing myself to lose consciousness. Keeping my awareness with an internal focus or just going duhhh what's going to happen next. Maybe I should do both at times? What are the thoughts out there?

Eyes to the skies- big comet coming end of the year
thelerner replied to thelerner's topic in The Rabbit Hole
Son of a bitch. Looks like the Earth wasn't destroyed, but the comet was. Damn you sun's gravitation force. No sign of comet after pass around sun: scientists By Irene Klotz 3 hours ago .View gallery Comet ISON is pictured in this November 19, 2013 handout photo by NASA, taken using a 14-inch telescope … By Irene Klotz (Reuters) - A comet's 5.5-million-year journey to the inner solar system apparently ended during a suicidal trip around the sun, leaving no trace of its once-bright tail or even remnants of rock and dust, scientists said on Thursday. The comet, known as ISON, was discovered last year when it was still far beyond Jupiter, raising the prospect of a spectacular naked-eye object by the time it graced Earth's skies in December. Comet ISON passed just 730,000 miles (1.2 million km) from the surface of the sun at 1:37 p.m. EST/1837 GMT on Thursday. Astronomers used a fleet of solar telescopes to look for the comet after its slingshot around the sun, but to no avail. "I'm not seeing anything that emerged from the behind the solar disk. That could be the nail in the coffin," astrophysicist Karl Battams, with the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, said during a live broadcast on NASA TV." -
I was thinking along similar lines. I wonder if you could either had a portable printer, took pictures and printed them out as camouflage. Or printed on cloth and wrapped them around you.

Why is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit an 'unrepentable' sin ?
thelerner replied to chegg's topic in Esoteric and Occult Discussion
Not being Christian, the OP question makes no sense. I don't follow any of the assumptions wrapped up in it. Hasn't the last pope or two been moving away from eternal damnation dogma into the more cerebral position of hell being those who distance themselves from God and not a literal place? If so, then more power to them. -

How will Ison affect the earth climate on 28th and beyond?
thelerner replied to 4bsolute's topic in General Discussion
and I for one am hoping the alien material gives me super powers. . . . unless it weakens me because because its a remnant of my home planet. By the by, anyone spotted it yet? Supposedly eyes or better yet binoculars to the East a half hour from sunrise. Its supposed to have a greenish glow.. so it'll probably weaken me. W/ the only antidote being strong coffee. -
Sugar as the reason why we have such a Mess on this Planet? And how it makes you unable to self-reflect because you emotionally forget.

I think there may be some quantity issues involved here as well. A lot is not good. Some..I don't think is bad. One can over think ones food choices so much it becomes a syndrome. later edit> Ofcourse I eat cotton candy and that's mostly air and air is healthy isn't it. -

Request for moving posts to split thread.

There's a certain 'poison' to Mo Pai discussions. I don't know why, but they degenerate into arguments. A mention of Mo Pai is enough to derail a thread. MPG as our leading Mo Pai contributor, you should create strategies to keep Mo Pai discussions more civil. Don't know how (maybe use a code word, like J.Changs system?), but sometimes you seem to contribute to Mo Pai chaos problem. -
.. never mind, couldn't 'paste' some smiley day of the dead sugar skulls.

Hmmmn, probably a chickasaurous did, unless it was a pterachickadon.

Can the Practice of Stillness-Movement add to your Martial arts ability?
thelerner replied to Kempomaster's topic in Daoist Discussion
We had an interesting and painful 2 or 3 weeks after my Aikido sensei got a hold of Wally Jay's Small Circle Jujutsu DVD. It was fun but we were clearly acting as lab rats. The phrase 'Where there is no pain, there is escape' was pushed into our consciousness. -
How deep should sitting/emptiness meditation get?
thelerner replied to thelerner's topic in Daoist Discussion
It was a long ago, so I might be totally wrong in my recollection here, but many years ago on the bums I wrote I usually meditate for 30 minutes and TaoMeow (?) wrote back something like '30 minutes isn't meditation, its relaxation. Real meditation doesn't happen til the 3 hour mark.' I'm not sure if that was the exact quote or person who said it, but I remember thinking there was something to that. What do you guys think about that? Is longer better? Ladies? gentlemen? -
What is the secret of being ultra smart ?
thelerner replied to Tatsumaru's topic in General Discussion
Hmnn how to look more intelligent... I've found hanging around idiots always made me look smarter, though sometimes people couldn't tell us apart. -
This was just asked to Marilyn Savant who has the highest I.Q recorded on the planet. She said 'The chicken.egg' And gave an explanation you couldn't argue with. I did notice her column in the Chicago Tribune was sponsored by KFC. http://www.parade.com/226814/marilynvossavant/which-came-first-the-chicken-or-the-egg/

Cool recipe magazine for bread baking- Grit Country Skill Series 'Guide to Homemade Bread' (Vol. 5), put out by Mother Earth News. Page 34, Salute to Sourdough. Great recipes, very conversational style and most are easy No-Knead types.

Very saintly attitude. I must admit I'm far from it and don't know if I'd ever want to get that far into the 'light', it'd feel too vulnerable. Bless those who do because they are inspirational in an oft dark world and remind us that stuff is just stuff and God is good.

I've heard adding a light ale (even cheapo Bud) to a dough gives it a nice (and fast) sour dough taste.

I went to coffee shop that had drip, french press, pour overs, chemex and AeroPress. As is my custom I decided on the evil temptation I had not yet done, thus ordered the AeroPress. Its like an Americano, but smoother. It could have been the beans, but it was an excellent cup of coffee.

Definitely in my opinion... reading a poem is a bit like intercourse. You can't always be sure what the other person feels but it was good for me.

Flowing with the Tao - how can you be sure?
thelerner replied to yabyum24's topic in Daoist Discussion
There's always the Tao-o-Meter, but those things are expensive and run out of batteries quickly. -
my 2 cents.. Its got a free flow consciousness thing going on. And imo the crude - racist - obscene is said in parody. if the poet don't wake up the people then who will?

I'm thinking of using some choice words to answer a PM sent to me. Words involving sexual partners, lineage, darker theological possibilities etc., Is that allowed? Again this would only be written into a Personal Message, not for whole board consumption. Sincerely Michael

thelerner replied to chegg's topic in Esoteric and Occult Discussion
Great post. Such things say more about man trying to control man than rational divine theology.
