  1. I suppose you could use the search engine to look up some old Christian threads. We're not really big on people coming in to preach and proselytize on there particular religion or practice.. Though its common for a persons practice to influence there answers on any philosophical questions. I get the feeling that highly preachy sermons would not do well here. For people who's interest are kinda one dimensional, its often best they get a PPD, where they can write to their hearts desire in a private section. Where people who are interested can correspond.
  2. Hospice

    If I combined a couple of these answers, I'd get- go volunteer at a hospice. There's alot of depression out there now. Times are hard, people are sheltered, things seem bleak. But they'll get better. In the meantime, see what kind of professional help is out there. Someone you can talk to.
  3. We had one member who's bottom tagline was I am the problem. He was pretty wise and the saying struck me as particularly spiritual. I am the problem, ie when trouble arises, first look to yourself as a cause. See if your own actions or reactions have created or added to it. Sometimes not, sometimes yes. Putting the locus of control/responsibility on us, gives us a better chance to own it and find a solution. Versus our problems being 'there' fault and we're powerless.
  4. How Do I Build a Strong Foundation

    In hard times you need the extra strength. I don't work out cause I need it for normal life. I work the muscles and cardio system so in an emergency I can act, if I'm sick I'll recover faster. If hard are coming (or are here) then getting physically, mentally and spiritual strong are necessities to keep us going when the going gets tough. The work of the past provides support when the chips are down. Whatever problems I have currently are nothing compared to my ancestors. They faced more, did more, accomplished and suffered more then I can imagine, so I don't have the right to complain. i do anyway, though. For strength I'm simply doing easy pushups and squats* each day. For endurance its long walks and stairs when I can. Spirituality is daily meditation and listen to some wise Dharma talks. *also a fair amount of shooting zombies, orcs and boxing in the VR Quest 'world'.

    Sure, muscle and counter muscles. To me its the whole chain of muscles that keeps you erect; vertical when you plank. Allow for strong full body movement and control.

    Seems off topic here, but wanted to add: Mods will sometimes temporarily (or longer) lock threads when they downgrade into repeated insult territory. Hoping a little time away will give members a little more perspective on the stupidity of heated arguments with strangers over the internet. I've been guilty of such run on negativity in the past. These days when I get negative, I hope a friend or two PMs me to get perspective, take a walk, chill. I'll also try to create a few positive threads to balance the negativity.

    On youtube the Breathing Mantra site has tons of 30 minute long breathing rhythms. I'll make my favorites into mp3s for practice. They have tones to keep you on track.     I'm starting to get back into it. In Chicago the water ain't cold yet, it's cool. Thus, for me, fine for the head. Come winter, it'll be cold, a whole nother thing. It gets real. Even after some time of work up, have the cold hit my hands, then my head. Keeping it short.. But it does seem, if I'm diligent there comes a time, I get my winter legs. And cold becomes an old friend.

    On netflix there is the movie Old Guard. A 5 semi-Immortals, all hundreds of years old, the leader, 1,000+ years. They spent alot of time worrying how small the worlds gotten, how invasive electronic surveillance is. It'd be hard to escape attention. These days major cities are covered w/ AI cameras. Even remote forests have cameras put there by naturalists to collect information. There was a famous taoist herbalist* who claimed to be 256 years old. They said he married many times, had some kids. Yet his wives died, his children all seemed dead. If he had any secrets, he didn't pass them on, seemingly not to his family, not to his friends or customers. I think following the Tao can grant a very long healthy life.. maybe some advantages when the body goes. If it doesn't keep me perpetually young, then I'm out $38.
  13. multi vitamins

    I've increased my intake of vitamin D. From 1 capsule a day to 2. Its healthy in itself but more importantly, while it won't keep you getting covid, some studies have shown it can help prevent the dreaded Cytokine storm that wreaks havoc in the body. No other vitamins, though I should probably go back to taking a multi to get a little more zinc and some trace minerals.

  17. Hello G'Day

    These days I'm doing the somewhat radical Wim Hof breath sets in the morning. They break alot of common rules with there speed and long holds, but I like'em and its part of his cold weather training so, for me winter is coming. I'm doing 30 minute sets of 7in-7hold-7out or 10-10-10 breathing pattern. Very relaxing. In Aikido they'd separate breathing exercises from meditation but the two imo, intermingle.

    Tian Shi, not a question but an observation that people who consider themselves high masters often don't do well here. Its great to have experienced people who share. But when people join and announce they're high masters, members are rightfully skeptic, and some get rude, arguments ensue. Which is too bad.     As far as I can figure there are zero ways to definitively find out about Mona Lisa's lower lip. It will all be speculation. Go back 540 some years and ask Da Vinci, in all honesty he'd say 'I painted that 10 years ago. You're asking her lower lip. How the heck should I remember." Here's the errata I know about it. A. It's much smaller then people expect (I saw it). B. It's very famous because in the early 1900's (1911) it was infamously stolen for a few years (2). Its great renown is due to as much to that theft as the art.

    A long time ago I got Young's series of meditations for dealing with pain. I had back pain which is famous for that feedback loop I mentioned. Relaxing, acceptance.. gaining strength and flexibility was the cure for it; his words and meditations helped, but it wasn't fast.
