While I appreciate the optimism of this point of view. Its possible we're simply hairless apes, big brained animals, not unlike others on this precariously placed globe. Not gods, not infinite or immortal. No fairy tales or supernatural stories. We live, we die, that's all. The reason we work is get money to pay for rent and food. Wishing and whole heartedly believing will not dependably put food on the table, putting on a superman costume doesn't allow flight no matter how high you are how much you believe. Hell, I could be wrong. I just wish there were some people floating around, transmuting elements and pulling miracles out of there hats. I don't see that. Strangely I'm on day 14 of Deepak Chopra's Abundance 21 day free e course, which is, it seems to me, a rehash of The Secret and I continue to be resistant to its message which is much like Everything's.

There are free meditation courses on the internet. They come around regularly and work by sending you an email each day for you to listen to and follow. A friend convinced me to join him doing a 21 day Deepak Chopra course which I find a bit light and new agey, but I notice Spring Forest Chi Gong is also doing one. Both are in mid session now, but will probably relaunch later. Spring Forest is sponsored by Learning Strategies: http://www.2012springforesthealingfestevent.com Deepak Chopra: https://www.chopracentermeditation.com/Bestsellers/LandingPage.aspx?BookId=172 Undoubtedly there are others. These are closer to beginners level and have a bit of a commercial feel to them, but for the price, why not. If you know when others are going to start, let people know the email address and when.

What to wear on my feet while cultivating?
thelerner replied to Celestial's topic in General Discussion
During sitting meditation, sometimes socks, sometime bare feet, but I have a nice shaggy lambskin under my zafu cushion. Its healthy to take off the shoes and walk around barefoot as much as possible. In my house we take off our shoes when we enter and I've found if I leave my shoes on the beach and gone for a walk, they've always been there when I've returned. -
In Central ie Chicago time its 8:40, I'll be in 'Chat' for a while. Join me (or us's) if you dare . Michael Monday Add on: That was Sunday. We had 4 people online and some good conversation. If you get the urge to talk to someone live, or see a person who's online in the bums you'd like to talk to them, you could put a new Post here to kick it up to the top and let people know you're heading into Chat. It usually takes a few minutes or longer for people to join in. Sometimes no one does. Still its always been worthwhile when a group get together and talks. Its almost magical when you have people from around the world typing and exchanging ideas and jokes in real time.

, Just left it, but there's still a couple guys talking in Chat Live. Need some feminine presence there.

The Story of Us in one (1) minute

Yes, I meant experimenting with the chat function. If I wanted to experiment on people..at night..with chat... I'd say everyone on chat should wear a red top, no bottoms and get on at exactly 8:47:47.

Maybe, but in Kunlun's case you're not paying for 'transmission' you get a long 2 day seminar with a remarkable man, learn a few dynamic techniques, a unique system And you get a transmission. A good value for $300 if you ask me. 'Transmission' may or may not be hocus pocus, but the seminar was worth the bucks if you've got the money to burn. Kunlun is simple but deep. There's a bit of a personality cult around Max, but (again imo) its not one he's created or perpetuates. You're told You are responsible, and get little or no support after a seminar which can be powerful stuff if your energy sensitive or over do it. And it will be nonsense for others on the other end of the energy scale who'll feel nothing.

clearly more experimentation is due. I'll try to hook up with people on chat tonight.

Every human being will say a number of seemingly enlightened and very stupid things during there lifetime. Its how we live and the fruits of life that determine our worth.

What does standing meditation do to/for you?

I'll repeat Ish's question to you. What form of Zhan Zhuang do you practice? Any special arm or leg positions? Thanks -
Which of these authors is properly teaching meditation?
thelerner replied to DreamBliss's topic in Group Studies
My newest favoritest author is Ajahn Brahms. particularly his book 'Mindfulness, Bliss, and Beyond' despite the tittle its not new agey and has a good grounding and instruction from a renown monk with a great sense of humor. You can hear many of his dharma talks for free it at DIYdharma.org; a great site for hearing and downloading audio teachings from great teachers ( including guided meditations). -
A bit off off topic. The mac mini starts at $599, got mine as a refurbished model from Apple for $529 and added memory for $40 to get it up to 8mb. Still expensive but .. quiet reliable, virus free and part of the Apple connectivity group. Looking forward to answers about Linux though.

US Presidential Debate and what is really important to people
thelerner replied to AbandonEgo's topic in The Rabbit Hole
'turtle shell' Trust me, that's inaccurate even for part of their income. You may have misunderstood what the article was about, rather than the Times being wrong. This 47% number was something Romney came up with.. /quote screwed up> Hmnn, 47% might be accurate. As I understand it there was a big problem with the large population of working poor who live pay check to paycheck that were being hit with tax bills that 'busted' them and made it easier to give up and go back on welfare. Creating tax favored incentives that reduces very low tax bills to zero actually helped a vast majority stay employed. The tax credits have worked and solved the problem. Its better to forgive an $500 tax bill, then have 10's of thousands of house holds give up on work because the once a year tax hit bankrupts them and causes an economic death spiral. Even with no income tax the poor tend to pay way more taxes as a percentage then most. Between taxes on there paycheck and every dollar they spend its a very high amount. -
Weh, as a Mac user, I still can't get in with any of my browsers. Too bad, I'd love to engage in some live chat. I get: Oops! Something went wrong! [#CHAT-02] You do not have access to our chat room. Need Help? Our help documentation Contact the community administrator

I'm not a big fan of PUA, at its worst its cynical and manipulative, but the better stuff is about confidence, being outgoing and taking chances. The best of it, the stuff less about 'the hunt' and more about being a person who gives off a positive sexy vibe- might be what you're looking for. Hit a book store and look around. There are a couple threads with videos here on the bums in the Off Topic section. You may want to read some of David Deida's work. He had a guest spot on one my favorite podcast's Infinite Smile as a guest speaker and at least includes a spiritual angle in his work on becoming a 'superior man'.

Best candidate country for country of Enlightened Wizards/Mages/Shamans
thelerner replied to SunLover's topic in General Discussion
Yet he sparks the longest threads and within them some good things and humorous ones develop. So god bless him, as long as he does no harm to himself or others. He's an odd spice that adds something to the mix. He's our official shock jock . -

Best candidate country for country of Enlightened Wizards/Mages/Shamans
thelerner replied to SunLover's topic in General Discussion
..but if I had to vote I'd second Australia (or New Zealand). Great friendly people there who know how to live. Make them wizards and there'd be shrimp on the barbie all across the world and the only enemy would be the damn baby eating dingo's. -

I know Oz has at least one. Sunlover you may want to edit your earlier message a bit. Your prejudices are showing a bit more nastily then usual. Feels like a mental masturbation question anyway. Which country first to go All Wizard ? Geez, pass the hash pipe around before I vote for the one trapped in my finger tips, man. People is people, getting too far into comparisons fertilizes the ego something awful. That's not to say there isn't differences, but imo the best way to get through life is by dropping prejudices and taking people one at a time as individuals. Otherwise your attitudes, body language, speech will create the very prejudice in others you imagine. I was just at the Chicago Burning Man decompression party. I'm pretty middle class straight laced, but it was a pleasure to be surrounded by people in colorful steampunk wear. I hate the techno music, but I caught the groove and let go of my 'taste'. I'm relatively shy, but its fun to play bartender, share and listen. Drinking and dancing was also a plus. Its an amazing world and most people are pretty good if you give'em half a chance and meet them half way. Try not to judge so harshly.
