So, um, back to the OP. Does anyone here use online dating apps? back in my day, after we herded the dinosaurs, we'd figure out which of us were male and female then divide up into respective caves. I hear its different these days. But not by much.

At one time it was The Tao of Healthy, Sex, and Longevity by Daniel Reid. -
Only Comfortable With Paid Lessons
thelerner replied to Mikey_Power_Up's topic in General Discussion
When I turn youtubes into mp3's I'll usually throw some money/donations at the site. Been doing that most recently with The Shows Must Go On youtube channel. Turning a whole play into an mp3 for my personal use. For a long drive, I figure it may be better to listen to the whole musical, rather then individual songs. -
During everyday life, I don't think its perfect quiet we're after. We tend to be a somewhat neurotic society, so having a quieter less reactive mind would help many. Exercises like noticing and de-personalizing the inner chatter might not be a long term strategy, ie exercise is healthy but not to be done all the time. But spending some time at a strategy to quiet the inner voice seems worthwhile to me. At least until you know yourself better.. getting yourself off cruise control in a direction that you may not have set.

I'm listening to the audio book, The Unfettered Soul. It's exercise to deal with the monkey mind is to consider it a bit of a dopey judgmental anxious gossipy Roommate. A bit mentally challenged. You see something and it goes on and on about it like a younger sibling dying for attention. You don't need inner commentary on everything you see, or things that get your attention. You can just notice them. Beyond a light strategy you don't need to replay episodes from the past that might reoccur, and you don't even need that strategy if you trust yourself. As you drop the dramas, peace should descend. You start looking at the inner dialog with a sympathetic derision.. there it goes again.. and you go back to consciousness and breath.

My general thinking is when things get too hot, strange or pressurized, back off the practice. Do less, or take a break. Particularly when you're not being taught live by an experienced teacher.

How to work with blockages and energy as a total beginner?
thelerner replied to GreenCord's topic in Newcomer Corner
Wonder if you're grounding and getting enough exercise? Too much energy staying with you. Perhaps a solution as simple as long walks, a jog; doing enough calisthenics to burn off some energy might help. I've got a ring (Oura) that records my sleep cycles. If I wake up during REM or Deep Sleep I feel much more tired regardless of how much sleep I've gotten. Waking up without an alarm, or changing my sleep time has helped. I snore which can be a precursor to sleep apnea, I tried a few things, a wedge pillow, and or setting two pillows up as a T, to raise my head, has helped the most. -
I think you've got the right idea, yet I'd recommend you sleep around and play the field a bit. What I mean is, if you're unaware of the many types of chi gung out there. Try a few, give'em some time, see what style connects. See what people here, whose writing you respect are up to. Also investigate what spiritual/esoteric arts may be close to you. A community center yoga or tai chi course may not sound exotic, but there are gems out there. A live teacher can bring better results then a master 1,000 miles away. Though when you have experience it is worth while to visit great teachers and be faithful to the art.

As they've gotten older, my kids transitioned off gaming consoles to computer games.

Looking for things to do together. Or if not exactly together then at the same time. Like uh.. movies. Preferably on Youtube that we all have access to. Something spiritual. or Violent. or Both. Like a classic Jet Li film https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOhr24FIaFg Or something else.. we can watch and make comments live.. any thoughts? Open to other ideas. Contests, story writing, online group gaming?

Welcome. Please take the time to read the two posts pinned at the top of this Welcome page and take a look at the forum terms and rules. This covers all you need to know when getting started. Though it boils down to be respectful. No name calling or trolling. Post as if your mom's looking over your shoulder. For the first week you will be restricted to ten posts per day but after that you can post as much as you like. Also, until you’ve posted fifteen times in the forums, you’ll be a “Junior Bum” with somewhat restricted access and will be allowed only two private messages per day. Good luck in your pursuits and best wishes to you, Michael and the TDB team For me, after I've meditated well, qi feels warm, and centered in my hara. During movement the feeling relaxed extension.. like moving on rails..smooth and integrated. You've come to a place with people who practice different arts and have different interpretations. Coming from a Japanese background my feeling on ki/chi are relatively simple and experiential. Whereas the Chinese and Hindu have a richer more nuanced..complicated understanding of it.

You may get more 'bites' if you add in a little about what you know about Siu Lian's technique, anything that makes it special. That way even if they don't know him, you may get comments about a similar breath pattern.

Beyond style, how does your master teach beginners? Seems like there's two types. The detail oriented or the flow oriented.

Question about Tibetan Buddhist Yoga, Tantra, Truhl Khor, Tummo, etc.
thelerner replied to Immortal4life's topic in Buddhist Discussion
Below is a video of Tibetans doing traditional Tummo. What I like about it, is the 'nothing special' nature of it. Not that there's not huge training behind it, but there's nothing flashy, we see them sitting. ..
