Released: Seeking the Master of Mo Pai: Adventures with John Chang by Jim McMillan
mantis replied to Thunder_Gooch's topic in General Discussion
The fact you'd be pissed off about this speaks volumes of your character. John Chang took a gamble by accepting Jim as a student since his lineage doesn't allow non-Chinese students, his teacher found out and he had to cut the cord, plain and simple. The Mo Pai isn't the only path, far from it. The teachings of the Mo Pai are secret and Jim isn't qualified to teach, all this book is going to do is motivate people to contact him to become his student (where he will then charge you $300 or more). This door closed long ago, I don't see what's so interesting or fascinating about it really. -

I'm clearly going against the grain here but I think this guy is a douche bag. For whatever reason your teacher doesn't want to teach you anymore (it's not as if he was under obligation to do so) and you turn around and defy his wishes and publish a book? Come on now. It makes it really difficult for us to say that not all Westerners are the same but the fact this guy is building rapport on this forum really confuses and irritates me . -
I'm in the same boat as you except that I'm quite a bit younger and thus can push myself a little harder. I'm mainly focusing on stretching my hip flexors and glutes, it's making quite a difference for me. Every day the full lotus becomes more and more comfortable.

So some of you said you'd go for that Jungian test I mentioned...

Ditto. I am clearly far too retarded to interpret my own -
Has anyone used a Ghost or Spirit Box?

I find all of this very interesting. I've heard of Thai ladies using black magic to attract their lovers. -
Bump. Been reading around stuff like this going down in Thailand. I don't want to watch the video again (for obvious reasons). I just want to open up discussion on this topic.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Li_Ching_Yun This guy drank rice wine everyday, he lived to be a decent age?

What do you mean?

I really, really wish I could have full unwavering faith in reincarnation/life after death. It'd make living much easier.

After performing the stretch Eddie Bravo is doing in his video for a few minutes while browsing the web the full lotus became much easier. My legs didn't slip at all today.

I'm not sure if I did it properly, I just put the first thing that came to my mind whenever I visualized what I had to. -
That video is awe inspiring, especially the upside down no arm full lotus. He doesn't mention any specific stretches you can do to achieve that, though?

I'm the most flexible person I know, much more flexible than all the women in my family (women are notorious for being much more flexible than us men) and yet I still have trouble getting in the full lotus and even more trouble staying in it. I stretch 3x a week with a special emphasis on my hip flexors/groin/hip area, it's incredible really. This is just one of those things that Asian people tend to have over us. My Vietnamese coworker who is 50 and smokes can get into a perfect full lotus with no visible effort and he doesn't stretch or engage in any form of exercise.

I've been slacking, I'll post mine tomorrow. ; ) -
How do you all deal with having your legs slide during the full lotus? Do any of you use a pillow or cushion to elevate your hips? I've found it much easier to sit in the full lotus this way.

I'm going to go ahead and assume some Ayahuasca was consumed during this Peruvian trip? I'm not sure if I understand just because your writing style is so, should I say, "unique"? Interesting nonetheless.
-
I'm curious - does it matter what foot ends up on top in the full lotus position? I've seen pictures of some having the right foot on top and others the left.

I just got my order for some Long Jing green tea today, they were nice enough to add in a little sample of some other tea, good stuff. I'm quite terrible at preparing tea and whatnot as I just started drinking it recently, although I go through quite a bit (3-5 cups a day).
-
Could you expand more on this? I'm very curious, as usual. Thanks.

Very interesting thread, I always love when the topic of full lotus comes up. I'm a very flexible individual and I can sit in full lotus, but it's a pain

Therapeutic dosages of Nitric Oxide precursors
mantis replied to Encephalon's topic in General Discussion
I figured I'd bump this thread since I'm now on Taomeow's dosing protocol. I'm taking 1g of Arginine and 250mg of Glutathione and I'm apparently a O+ (blood type). So far so good, I plan on eventually bumping up to 3-4g of Arginine. -
It's been a few nights on the floor for me and I must say, I'm getting the best sleep I have ever had. I did have some initial minor soreness in my hips (side sleeper, occasionally) but that no longer bothers me. I've went ahead and placed my order for the extra firm topper I linked a few posts back, I look forward to seeing what other benefits sleeping on harder surfaces brings forth.

This is what I'm thinking of doing http://www.amazon.com/Sleep-Better-5-Inch-Mattress-Topper/dp/B002EQAYNG/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top http://www.amazon.com/Fashion-Bed-Group-B51094-Platform/dp/B0015VBU6G/ref=sr_1_43?ie=UTF8&qid=1321587637&sr=8-43 Would that work? I'm not sure if a 5 inch topper would suffice on a platform bed, I'm not worried about it being too "firm" or anything like that, I just don't want the foam to thin out where I sleep and end up putting too much pressure on the wood itself.
-
3 INTPs in one thread, huh?
-
Yeah I know, I was looking around the net and I found the tatami mats and other traditional Japanese futons. I figure a platform bed with a extra firm mattress should be AOK though.
