Could you say more on this? It sounds negative, but could it be positive as well? Whatever thrust was happening of 2020, 2021 will cause it to be focused in impact?

Where did you learn Microcosmic Orbit ? (Books, DVDs, schools, teachers)
JohnC replied to mizpulyn's topic in Daoist Discussion
Could be. My points is that I don't think he is withholding anything that would support the development of students to their full potential or watering anything down. -

Peng developed his electric shock qi emission due to the nature of his qi. He writes on this in his book, and that it manifested through his MCO training with Xiao Yao. I don't think he is about being deceptive to his students and teaching watered down teachings, just like I don't think Chun Yi lin is into that as well. In fact, Master Lin has specifically spoken on that the small universe he teaches, is the core of his practice and that there aren't further secrets, just more nuance that you develop through practice. He does speak on that there are higher level practices that wont work till you develop to the point that you can practice them, and he teaches those as you reach those levels. I think both him and Robert Peng teach the same way. -
Sad to hear that. He was deeply insightful into cultivation and Mopai during the mad rush of those days.
-
As others have said, Mo pai is probably a dead end as they have been forbidden to teach westerners. There are plenty of other high quality lineages around, as noted above. Good luck.

Is there a space for queer people in a traditional or semi-traditional setting?
JohnC replied to dachungzi's topic in General Discussion
Honestly.... you'll probably find a lot of acceptance in any quality group of those three. Hindu has gods that are male and female, buddhism doesn't really care so much about what you want to fuck other than to encourage moderation, and same with taoism. You will also find groups that will discriminate, shame, etc among those three plenty, as humans are part of them. The story of the two travelers and the farmer fits here: Good luck! -
You are wrong. It used to be 15 minutes. With compassion, what it used to be is irrelevant, as that is what it is, now. If that isn't available to you, or you aren't interested, then you should probably look for help elsewhere. You occur entitled for someone looking for help, especially from a person who has dedicated their life to helping others. If you visit his facebook livestream, you can see that he has hundreds of people looking for his attention at any given time. I would encourage you to keep that in mind, when attempting to reach out to him, or other masters for that matter. He is one of the most available I've experienced in my 13 years of practice. Good luck.

Valuable and important contribution to any medical issue. On forums like these, Eastern or traditional medicine can be prioritized, when western medicine is certainly valuable and has it's place, especially with acute issues, and shouldn't be dismissed. All in balance.

Yea, I understand on the SFQG side, how the commercial approach is off putting. I'm reading the initial phone consult is $155, then afterwards it is 145 for Master Lin, and $120 for others. Although you can email them or interact with them on facebook and they can give you detailed answers around that. What gives you the impression that there is a lot of visualization? Michael isn't responding from his contact or here?: https://stillnessmovement.com/services/clinical-qigong-distance-sessions/ If not he is pretty active on facebook on his group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2532565550097194/ If you want further recommendations for senior students in that system, I've got a lot, all of which are very accomplished. Best of luck, John

Takingcharge, I would really recommend you talk to Chun Yi Lin, Michael Lomax, or an emei qigong healer to get more details on how qigong could help and what you need. You can request a healing from the grandmaster of Emei on their website. Michael and Master Lin are very accomplished healers that can do distance sessions to help and both will be available for talking. Diagnostically Master Lin is the best I've ever experienced, and Michael is very powerful in his ability to emit qi. Best of luck with your condition, John

Really recommend getting it checked out sooner rather than later.
-
If anything, I think your cultivation is probably helping you become aware of something that may have been there all along. Really recommend checking out a good acupuncturist, doc, or stomach gut health doc. If you want diagnostic help, Master Lin or any of his students in SFQG can tell you what is going on. Eric Isen is really good as well. Good luck, John

You may find more discussion pertaining to this in a political forum, especially if you want to address those things with political activism. The political forum would also be the place where you look to discuss systemic inequality or the like. This isn't the focus of Daoism. Upon finding realizations they may comment or speak to that, but their focus is less societal and more personal in finding their true nature, and developing and following that. If you are looking for discussion on cultivation and personal development via the spiritual path, you are in the right place.

How China monetizes them now as McMonasteries, is different than their original intent.

Daoist mountain temples aren't around any money. I think that their temples tended to be where people were at, and low income and impoverished neighborhoods just didn't have the money for construction. Getting a temple going is no easy feat, and construction is as well expensive. Neighborhoods that have more money, tend to be able to donate more money. I know that many court Daoists struggled with being in civilization due to moral conflicts or similar, and would often only stay in court at the directive from the emperor.

Yes. The most important feedback I got from some of the senior students of SFQG, and I think energy work in general is, it is about becoming part of something bigger, and developing a relationship with the qi and universe. To that point, it isn't ALL about your efforts. Mostly it is, and we are in the universe and qi has an intelligence. I applaud your enthusiasm, although the strictness and tension related to how you practice can get in the way. A multiplier in the effectiveness of your practice is to scan your body, from head to toe, checking in with each part, then expanding your awareness out and checking in with the qi around you, then sharing the reason or intent for practicing. Master Lin recommends this every time you practice. It could help, and you could get direct and immediate feedback to your questions. Practicing with a group will grant you the energy of the group as well, which all assist. What is important for the small universe, is that it is not the MCO. You don't move the energy down the ren channel but more inside. Also important is that you RELAX. Don't try to force and concentrate super hard. Don't try to do it perfect, just do it. Master Lin, generally recommends that you practice more external forms initially, then move more and more to internal. That includes 5 elements (zhan zhuang), and the qigong.
-
I hear you are trying to understand and do it correctly. Really you have a qi field between your hands that extends from your hands, the ball is a metaphor to help with the idea. More the aim is expansion and contraction with intent, movement, and awareness. So when you expand above your head, you feel the expansion, then compression back down to two fields in around your hand. As you move that qi field down, your impacting the channels in your body with your hands. Don't worry to much about losing or dropping the ball, the qi field is from your hands. What is most important is more about the positioning of your hands and your intent. The chi moves regardless of your visualizations. Once you develop capacity your visualizations develop weight. If you you want more clarity, like Vajra said, shoot them an email, or you can call them and they will help. I have been to level 1-3, and have practiced the active form since 2008. Been around the block lineage wise, but the movement form Master Lin designed to be compatible with any lineage.
-
Expand it to merge with the universe, then bring it back to your palms as you bring them down over your head. My recommendation though is that you focus on FEELING the energy ball, do the movements and let the energy move. Do any visualizations, if at all, very relaxed and non-attached. As you develop so too will those things. Good luck.

Where did you learn Microcosmic Orbit ? (Books, DVDs, schools, teachers)
JohnC replied to mizpulyn's topic in Daoist Discussion
My case as well. Went really deep in meditation with small universe, and later that night had my first panic attack. Spent the rest of the year terrified I was dieing. Talked with Master Lin on it, and he shared that I was working through past life trauma, and said 'Keep going, your doing great'. John -
Where did you learn Microcosmic Orbit ? (Books, DVDs, schools, teachers)
JohnC replied to mizpulyn's topic in Daoist Discussion
As an aside, I am aware of this perspective that seems dogmatic, that says 'move it with your mind and you mess stuff up.' I think that group has a valid point. Without proper and clear instruction you can do incorrect things, and if you have any level of development could mess things up. It seems. I am actually going to ask Master Lin about this. Those that subscribe to this I've seen from systems that are very powerful where energy comes in after a set of movements and you are entrusted to that movement, to systems that focus in deep detail on the fascia with a very mechanical approach. All accomplished, with high quality students. I'm also aware of systems, like SFQG, that are based on visualization, and moving the energy with the mind or intent, and they as well I've seen with very accomplished students and masters. I've heard it said that there is the Northern China Taoist schools that focus on third eye development first, and Southern China Taoist schools that focus on lower dantien development first. Or different emphasis of the two. -

JohnC replied to mizpulyn's topic in Daoist Discussion
Well, Master Lin recommends that you practice the small universe for the entirety of your energy work career, and that it is the engine of SFQG. In the practice you use visualization, and I think once developed, intent to pull in and move the energy along a recommended path and points. He strongly encourages that you use his recording as he provides sound to assist, and recommends that you call on his energy, and check in with your body and the chi around you as you set intent(ask chi for help) for your time of practice. All of this has a very palpable impact on the practice. He states that as you continue to practice it will develop you and in you. I don't think there is some secret other teaching that he delivers that suddenly makes it more powerful later on. In my experience it is clearly effective, although he does recommend for people starting out more active movements and standing/zhan zhuang first, into sitting. His students are obviously accomplished(Jim Nance, Gadu, Jaci, etc). But if you want to know more about how it works, you should ask him. He is pretty available, and if you call their organization or send them an email they will pass the question along. -

JohnC replied to mizpulyn's topic in Daoist Discussion
Definitely a valid point, as I found out I had been practicing incorrectly after having done it for 8 months. The moving energy route seems to be prone to mistakes unless supervised, assisted, and clearly instructed. And there are very accomplished students 'moving energy' in SFQ's system, Robert Peng's, and others. Xiao Yao taught them both, and was an affiliate of Yan Xin. -

JohnC replied to mizpulyn's topic in Daoist Discussion
For clarity, SFQ's Microcosmic orbit they call the small universe, and does not move the energy down the ren channel. It is how they avoid problems that people encounter via the MCO. Master Lin speaks on, that it is his observation that the Ren channel moves up the body, and moving energy against this causes chi deviations. He also speaks on, that those that have success with the generic MCO, is because they use a channel an inch inside the ren channel. I recently discovered this and it blew me away. John -
Practice with Music - spontaneous / ZiFaGong
JohnC replied to Master of no significance's topic in General Discussion
Like Freeform said, no music is better. My teacher in zifagong never played music as it wasn't needed and was a distraction. The internal and external movement was dynamic enough. Similarly to what Freefom says, my master doesn't recommend music as the intent and vibration of the creator can impact you especially if you are in an energetically expanded state. If they were anxious or the like, it is tied to the vibration of the music, and can impact you and your practice negatively. John- 10 replies
