I used to play Doom quite a lot in the 90's and so far I haven't felt the urge to shoot anyone - nowadays I play World of Tanks Blitz where you drive little tanks around shooting other little tanks based on WWII - I haven't invaded Russia recently. Do they affect you these games - I guess they must do - because everything does. But I would ask the question the other way round - why are the most popular games like Call of Duty etc. war and violence related. The people who make games - make what sells - so there is something in us which likes vicarious violence. Perhaps you could say that there is something in the way the human mind has developed which requires this kind of gaming - war, hunting and games - which may be distasteful but actually healthier to admit than repress???

I'm quite keen on the idea of harnessing new tech with the purpose of greening the planet - as long as it is a process of return to the natural. Although of course there is hardly any natural terrain left on earth - we have been terraforming since the neolithic (at least).

I think the interviews give out information and I have always wanted a 'Resources' section where useful links, book reviews and other info on systems could be held - maybe Textual Studies could be under 'Resources' ???????? Maybe practitioners of different systems could write short outlines of their stuff and provide signposts for interested folks. Just a thought.

There's only one thing worse than being talked about and that is not being talked about.

The sad fact is that dawei and other admins did ask for volunteers - most people don't want to do it (very wisely) and many others don't last very long. I know it may be hard for people to believe but it is a tough and thankless job - you get shit thrown at you from members, other mods and even the owner (occasionally ). Its easy to say rotation - but you need a good pool of people to draw from and they just aren't there.

I'm beginning to think I am spectacularly dense as I didn't detect any of this spillage. How did it manifest? I confess I used to 'troll' in a light hearted sense the Trump and Brexit threads (which is also closed for some reason) by posting about socialism and the like and took it as just a bit silly. I'm already missing teasing Patrick and Chang. I had no idea so many were people were upset - it's been a real surprise to me.

The problem isn't that there is no differentiation but that once you decide to filter and edit then someone has to do it - and thence you get personal bias ... this system good, that system bad ... and DBs has never been like that - so unless it is going to radically change we can continue to exist without dictatorship.
